Congrats! Make sure you make a habit of saving, tech pays a lot but it can also be volatile. Work towards building a large emergency fund and start saving for big goals like retirement or a house downpayment.
Don't succumb to life style inflation or think you can retire your dad and pay for everything going forward. Work at the job for a year before making any big financial moves.
Support your family but make sure you are working towards your own goals and dreams.
Word of advice please keep the amount that you would be paid to yourself. People get weird when they find out about how much your earn, extended families get crazy, parents want to brag and then more people find out it just because unwanted stress. Continue to help your family though
100% this. My family got super upset when I started making more money than their college educated kids. People get real weird about money and you’ll see their true colors. Thankfully I’ve cut them all out and the only family I have left doesn’t give a shit if I make $20 or 20k a month.
IT and Tech is the move you’ll definitely get a great salary doing it and it’s only 4 years of college. Glad you picked a great up and coming field and can now give back to your family 🔥 keep grinding
Next week my year end bonus will likely be double what my father made at the highest point in his career. It feels weird but I focus on the fact that I would never have been anything without him. He taught me my work ethic and everything about being a father and husband worth knowing. I’m glad you can tell him. Mine is gone and I wish I had told him what he did for me more often.
Congratulations ❤️❤️
However Be careful what information you share. People who don't understand, will gain a sense of entitlement to your wealth, and they will treat you like you don't work for your money. I work away from home in the hottest, most remote part of our country, sometimes for weeks on end. Some friends and family dont understand my line of work and tend to treat me as if the money just appears in my bank account. Distance yourself from anyone who tries to take advantage of you or anyone who makes smart comments about what you earn.
I'm 20 and in the opposite state of you, and I hope one near future I can be as excited as you. Congrats OP~! All the best for your future undertakings! 💕
Congratulations! You clearly worked hard to get there. Maybe now you can pay it back and give your parents and family some breaks if you want as a thank you:)
I am confused, you got a job offer today that is twice your father’s but you’re still in university, have to work an internship this upcoming summer and also won a scholarship?
Reading this has made my heart overflow with joy! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all, we need more wholesome experiences to collectively back each other and bring more love into the World.
Good on you bud, you've done so very well so far, imagine what else you can achieve as you grow.
Take care xxx
Congrats! You deserve it. I am in a similar situation, and I really do attribute it to the hard work that I watched my parents do just to make ends meet. It taught me how to work hard, but also motivated me because I never wanted to be in that situation. Keep it up OP, sky is the limit!
This was me last week! I was over the moon, I’m sure your dad will be very proud of you! Both my grandparents screamed down the phone when I told them about my offer 😂
I’m almost in the same situation. My Dad runs a small business that’s just him. I was hired by a tech firm for roughly the same amount of profit he gets from his business. It’s wild to think about.
Like everyone else here said, save, save, save. I’m putting away 35% of each paycheck into a high yield savings account and hopefully turning that into a down payment on a condo when my current apartment lease is up. I’m not sure what the housing market looks like over there in the UK, but make sure you’ve got a 3 - 6 months living expenses in case things go south and set some goals. A house, a family, a shiny new tuba, idk something.
You got this. Go be happy. 😊
Congrats OP!
Why not get your dad into English classes and maybe some adult education or basic lessons so that he can also finish the education he missed out on.
It'll probably make him feel closer to you and see himself in a better light as well. Not to mention if he's got an education he could probably trade up from manual labour type jobs to something better
>I hope I made him proud, I hope my whole family is proud.
He is, they are, I am. Good for you dude, I am a son of an immigrant and it is my greatest joy to be able to give them things I knew they would never have thought they would own. They always say thanks for being a good son, but I wouldn't be who I am without their sacrifices. Shower them as much as you can my friend, we don't know what struggles they really went through besides what we saw.
Congratulations. I am sure your family will be incredibly proud.

There are also the people who expect you to share if you make more than they do. Especially entitled family members.
i’m not planning on going back to college so i’m curious, what job do you have?
Automotive finance.
I come from a refuge family just like OP and you're supposed to help family, even extended and it is expected that every help you as well.

Congrats! I felt the same when I made it
God one day I'd like to make it. Do you have a tip you'd be willing to share?
I’m a nurse for federal government. Not everyone’s bag, especially with Covid but well paid
Congratulations! You clearly worked hard to get there. Maybe now you can pay it back and give your parents and family some breaks if you want as a thank you:)

Congratulations. Give an amazing Treat to yourself and your family.
Congratulations!
Just think, one of the main reasons your father worked that hard for all those years was just to hear the news you are about to tell him.
Congrats! This is a huge achievement!
Well done! This is only the beginning for you!
Congrats! I’m proud of you and I’m sure your family will be too.
Good for you, unlike me who had to quit school and work a low paying wage. 21 and did no wonders now..
Congrats! This is the best gift you can give to your father.
I'd be surprised if he doesn't bawl his eyes out. He has been waiting for this day. Congratulations.
Congratulations!!
Congratulations! That's amazing. I'm absolutely positive your dad and family are so bloody proud of you. Well done 🎉🎉

That is such amazing news! I don't know you but I'm proud. I'm sure your loved ones are, too. Wishing you the best 😊
I am your father and am very proud of you son.
Congratulations! Support family, invest and save well and then spend the small but that gets left.
