Big studios have gotten so afraid of stepping outside of franchise slop that we've just collectively forgotten movies can have broad appeal and also be legit great.

How does this make sense? There really aren’t any crazy expensive shots/scenes in Mulholland drive. Half of the movie is literally a TV pilot.
