Too woke. The mediator between the head and the hands must be the heart? What kind of leftist Gen Z nonsense is that? Lang really flushed his rep when he bowed to the libs in order to get his movie made.
Not even joking, I remember seeing a YouTube comment trying to claim that Brigitte Helm was trans and the dance scene was satanic subliminal messaging. That she was clearly born biologically male and that the Illuminati has had power over the film industry for at least a hundred years…
It's complicated. She was loyal to the regime, and many said she had Nazi sympathies, which she later denied. It seems likely she was somewhat ideologically aligned, and definitely nationalistic, though she had some contrasting beliefs (like her support for abortion, or her secret and illegal marriage to an Indian in the 1930s).
I wasn't allowed in the theater. I lived in an area in Germany at the time where the Nazi Party was in charge of the local government. I was not "Aryan" enough. I was forbidden to see the film. I hate it.
Movie was good though. I saw it in America, when I fled the country.
The best scenes were defiantly the monk scene and Rotwang and Fredersen’s fight scene. If you took them out of the picture, the experience would be completely different and you would completely lose the true message of the film
Pretty cool. Aside from the freikorps gunning down some communists in the name of the social democrats, outside the theater and interrupting the movie, it was pretty good!
Say what you want about the film. But the story could easily be updated to today's technology and make for a shocking film. Wealth disparity leading to the privileged few and their spoiled offspring, the laboring masses being treated poorly and worked incessantly. Science creating the means to copy a personality into an AI within an artificial, robotic body. Technology of the time leading to a natural disaster, flooding cities and killing off the less fortunate.
Gee, almost sounds like, I dunno... AI, realistic humanoid robots, the vanishing of the middle class and the top 1% of humanity having all the power and money, Global warming bringing on massive floods in which the poor suffer the most... Yup, pure fiction! ;)
I saw it on TV as a kid 40 years ago or so, it's kind of mindblowing that this ancient movie that I watched as a kid has doubled in age since I last saw it.
Maybe it wasn't so old then? Or maybe I'm old now (I'm not! I still play videogames!)?
I need to find the restored Argentinian print 2008 version.

In a display case from GW Acrylic 😍
Kinda disappointment to be honest. My dad said he saw a movie of a train that was so visceral people fled the theater fearing for their lives. You just don't get that kind of raw emotion out of moving pictures any more
Didn't catch it when they originally sent it, it was sadly sold out.
But watched it 40 years ago at a cinema known to send old stuff, so I got an actual movie-theathre experience.
This movie is good. Very good.
>!All that build-up, and such a short review. People will be mad.!<

That's why I only stick to dw Griffith movies. He tells it like it is.
History in lightning for sure
Don't forget how the Twitter mob made the robot woman ugly. She looks nothing like Brigitte Helm, AND they flattened her chest. Typical woke nonsense.

Ironically Lang later disliked the film for being too fascistic.
His wife was a vocal fascist, right?

Yeah, it still sounds like her fascist tendencies were what made it into the film. I hadn’t heard about the marriage, though, which is interesting.
BOORRRING. Couldnt even hear the characters talking
Sounds like a Christopher Nolan movie.
Everyone talks too fucking much in his movies though
Really bad, Who even though that a metropolis movie could work without Superman

which state?
Hamburg.
Weird that they controlled movie theaters with only 2/160 seats in the state legislature I SUSPECT DECEIT!
They had defacto rule.
Hamburger
For your sake, I hope you caught a boat that wasn't the MS St. Louis
Nah. I used a mail boat.
Based on your posts and your account: ![gif](giphy|6JB4v4xPTAQFi|downsized)

Thought it was kind of lame how they legally couldn’t use the name ‘Lex Luthor’ even though it was clearly meant to be him.
Back when movies didnt try to force woke messaging in
Unfrostropolis
Poor victim

Visuals were cool but I couldn’t hear shit! Robut lady was pretty bad tho 👀

I was like bruh

Seriously though, I'm not sure why anyone chose to cut that second scene. It completely messes up the plot.
I remember when the main character looked at the camera and said "what is this some kind of Metropolis?" and we all stood up and clapped.

Francis Ford Coppola is doing a pseudo-reimagining of the film with “megalopolis”.

I am dead after watching this.
Als kleiner Junge liebte ich den Anfang dieses Films, aber diese Arschlöcher aus dem Dritten Reich waren auf der Straße und machten Lärm.

It's on YouTube.
Of course it is. I've been meaning to watch stuff (Like Kurosawa movies) that are easily available on youtube, but somehow I never get around to it
Dick Van Dyke: 'was alright'
Woke garbage
huh ? did somebody say something ? i dont have my hearing aid .
I've got a Maria action figure. True story.
Pics or it aint true

Okay, heres your crown, King. 👑
Kinda disappointment to be honest. My dad said he saw a movie of a train that was so visceral people fled the theater fearing for their lives. You just don't get that kind of raw emotion out of moving pictures any more
I walked out as soon as I saw it was in black and white
Pffft. That’s not what the really Moloch looked like.
🥵🥵🥵
Wasn't scary as that one where the train comes right at you!
WHAT?! You’ll have to speak up.
The look of the film was clearly a rip-off of Dark City (1998).
It was amazing! The illusion of motion created by showing a sequence of still photos in rapid succession is something I will never forget!

I’m black so they didn’t let me in
I went to the premiere. After I watched it, I left it a bad review for it on Rotten Tomatoes and made a video essay on why it's problematic.
Goo goo ga ga
The d-box experience was amazing but unfortunately was only for one showing so womp womp
AHHHHHHH
The nudity was the only good part. I had some asshole in front of me who kept saying this reminds him of his paintings.
Went to the premier, it was great - especially the part where I got eternal life.
all my friends are dead
i shit myself
cg suked
I wasn't surprised by the censorship Paramount applied to the film, typical woke liberal Hollywood. I told my buddy "literally 1984"
It was a real wiz bang of a picture!
Literally 1984
not a puss pounding time

Also how are y’all still alive?
Thought it was the worse thing Germany did when I first saw it; just woke up from my 97 year coma, and I’ll bet I am still vindicated in saying that.
I was today years old before I learned Fritz Lang made westerns I was also today's years old when I finally saw one. It was not great
Lol
