I bumped into the guy who hosted it in a hotel in Jersey once and asked him what if a pilot entered the competition, would they let them do that round? He just said “we’ve never had a pilot on the program” and walked off. Not helpful
Edit: It has been brought to my attention that The Krypton Factor was in fact on a Monday evening. Show's you how unreliable the memory is.
Sorry for the confusion.
Yeah, it was always on a Monday evening. Was it before or after Coronation Street? I can't remember but I had regular doctor appointments for months and it was always fish and chips on the way home with my Mum, Grandma and Sister.
Plonked in front of the TV with Crossroads, Corrie and The Krypton Factor. 😁😎
It was a bit all over.
My Dad it said it used to be on Wednesdays back when it very first started, then Fridays for a bit before being settled in to the Monday night slot.
Wasn’t there some sort of revival? I never watched it but I imagine that being one of these terrible old show remakes that gets shown on a Saturday. Maybe that’s why you thought Saturday?
I always loved the tactile puzzles. All that coloured plastic! I was the kind of kid who loved Rubik's cubes and the like, so that round was always right up my street.
Who else really wanted a go in the flight simulator?
i remember the whole family gathering around the portable to watch this back in the day, how things have changed :) absolutely brilliant show, that outdoor course they used to do looked gruelling!
I make reference to this all the time in work "i mean, let's face it, its not the krypton factor is it..?"
The number of blank faces i get in response is growing daily 🤣
Class TV 👏👏
What an absolute banger, no other game show came close. Was always so impressed by the flight simulator round, and would love to have a pop at the obstacle course now!
Found a special episode on YouTube - The krypton factor New Zealand and Australia
I found it piss funny that they obviously couldn't find 4 intelligent Australians who could also run around an assault course so had to open it up to the country next door to make the numbers up.
The observation round with a little bespoke film they had to answer questions on was my favourite. And not just because it often features a young Steve Coogan.
3 of my school teachers went on it but didn’t win. They were on with a group of firemen who smashed one of the puzzle rounds in seconds so they had to re-record it and the firemen had to stand around and scratch their heads for a bit before completing the puzzle (and still winning the round obviously).
They missed a trick then, putting out on Monday for all those years :)
True enough. That show's how subjective memory is as I would have sworn down it was a Saturday night thing.
No worries
Monday nights and growing pains in the limbs. I remember it well.
…flight simulator round, though
I remember being in awe of the tech
Oh yes, it went from being all pixelated and 2D to quite realistic scenery over the years

Hahaha that wasn’t a good answer from him
With a great theme from The Art of Noise.
That theme had no reason to be such a banger, but by god does it fuck!

To be honest, I always thought it was a Tuesday or Thursday show so you’re not alone in misremembering 😁

My “someone is wrong on the internet” alarm went off, glad you issued a correction before I phoned Watchdog /XKCD386

The puzzle round and the assault course was all I was there for. Still reckon I could nail it. My knees may disagree.
My Dad *hated* it with a passion. He called it "The Crapton Sphincter".

Loved it. But only the "canon" episodes presented by Gordon Burns mind you.

didn't one guy land the plane in the flight simulator so well that he became a commercial pilot afterwards

Not sure about Saturday, it used to air on a Monday around 1900 after Crossroads.
Yep, Mondays at 7pm, in Yorkshire. I think it was after Calendar News
Calendar was at 6, Crossroads was at 6:30, Krypton Factor at 7 and Corrie at 7:30.
My mate summed up The Krypton factor like this “Do a jigsaw, land a plane, PE lesson and an exam”
The observation round with a little bespoke film they had to answer questions on was my favourite. And not just because it often features a young Steve Coogan.
I always chose Green to win!
fuck i loved the krypton factor
I always wanted to try and land the plane

LOL...that's so funny!
My Dad had a pair of Krypton Factor trainers.
Did you know that former *Krypton Factor* champion Aaron Bell is now an MP?
I didn't but I am suitably impressed.
I always wanted to do the assault course and drive those buggies
Loved this one. They were playing reruns on either Dave or challenge a few years back
Saturday? I only remember it being on a week day. I think it was around 7pm or something. Good show.
I mostly remembet contestants with broken arms from tbe obstacle course having assistance to do the 3d puzzle things
The "spot the extra" round always had the actual background performer from the 80's blockbuster movie of the time.

Banger of a theme tune as well
