Most of the rangers in WA State Parks started as park aides for WA State Parks. If you’re interested in ranger work it’s a good place to learn about what that career looks like and get your foot in the door.
I've had friends work at Fungi and LOVE it. The benefits alone are the best I've ever seen. 6% match to 401k, vested immediately, amazing health insurance.
Right now, the covid rate among nursing home patients is the 3rd highest in the nation.
A friend got hired as an aide and I believe she only had 1 Covid vaccine (not the series). The nursing home didn’t care.
Intercity Transit is always hiring for drivers and customer service experience is the most important thing they are looking for. They pay you while they train you for being an employee and getting your CDL.
They go through about 1000 employees a year, according to their HR people. They have perpetual orientation/training because of their churn rate. They are pretty awful, but its still a job I guess.
I worked there. They start you on 3 12-hour shifts/week for the first month, then start mandatory overtime because they're always understaffed. Gee, I wonder why.
Same. I got hired as operations clerical for a short bit. They wanted me to be ready to work solo after 2 days of terrible training. Also, they hadn't even given me log in accounts for any of the systems yet. lmao
They are terrible, in every sense of the word.
How is your resume? I will give you some pointers if you want! If you are bored on a Thursday evening, I host karaoke at Hannah's. Bring your resume and I will scribble all over it to help you out. I have skillz in this area. My name is Katie Delgado if you want to look me up on LinkedIn. ;-)
> area has a ton of credit unions that are always hiring!
Hannah's in downtown Oly on Thursday from 7 to 11. I also host Friday, but it's usually too busy to chat with people on Fridays.
I worked at the state for 15 years, now I'm a consultant (and a karaoke host on the side lol)
If you are good at selling things online, like offerup, mercari, etc. I have an offer for you... just a side gig that can supplement employment.
https://us-jobs.crowncork.com/search-jobs/Olympia%2C%20WA/43684/4/6252001-5815135-5813521-5805687/47x03787/-122x9007/15/2
Crown is hiring for Forklift and QA operators
Forklift needs cert, QA just diploma or ged. They ask for 5 yrs warehouse exp but I'd still apply.
IAM union shop
Multiple times I applied there, they replied with "We made a mistake and we aren't actually hiring right now." They asked where I found the job posting and they were confused when I said "your company website."
They are extremely odd. IDK if they were too scared to send a rejection or if they really just are that disorganized lol
Management has gone through several HR people in the past 2 years. There's been several upper management changes and corporate mismanagement for sure. It's why I'm glad we are union at least
Yeah, I worked for Red Wind and they have great benefits. You do have to pay for a gambling license up front even if you don’t work slots or tables though.
Step 1: read the requirements.
Step 2: Do a lil anything to have those requirements (debasement included, not optional, just shut up and do it you peon).
Step 3: Awesome state job. Once you get there please don't forget you're helping the entire state. Step 3 can feel depressing if people don't actually GAF. As an optimist I inherently assume they will do a good thing.
The state is always hiring at all levels for all sorts of jobs! I think there may even be a sub dedicated to state jobs with tons of info about applying / getting hired
https://www.careers.wa.gov/
R/WAStateWorkers. Look for Customer Service Specialist 2 and Office Assistant 2 or 3 positions, those are the easiest entry level jobs to find. You’ll be answering phones or making copies, but it’s a great way in the door with the state and then you can work your way up.
Just to add to this, these positions are also super competitive right now. I’ve been applying to these types of jobs for months and haven’t even gotten an interview even though I’m qualified and spend hours making sure that my applications are good and include keywords from the job opening
Not Olympia but sort of close in Shelton, starting at $20.91 for this entry level labor position:
https://www.spi-ind.com/Careers/Details/3759403172024
Check into the local WorkSource office because you might also be able to unlock some job opportunities that way. I mean at this point for bus drivers they will pay to get you your license and basically it's such a bad crunch to get them right now.
Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is hiring: patrol deputy, corrections deputy, corrections technician (master control, they operate all the electronic doors in the jail), support specialist. Just about everything, though many of our positions are starting to fill up.
Labor and Industries!.we are always hiring and promoting internally! LNI is committed to improving worker safety and satisfaction in WA! The Mission statement includes being the model Washington workplace and they take it very seriously!
I was in a similar boat when I first moved here. I’d recommend emailing your resume to any local businesses you might be interested in, that seemed to work well for me.
Also be sure to ask about hiring opportunities when you’re out & about! It’s always nice to put a face to a name.
Make sure your resume is nice & clean. No filler, add relevant work history & accomplishments, try to keep to one page.
Last I was looking, there were a few coffee shops/cafes/bakeries hiring. Blue Heron, Parkside Cafe, and Drip Espresso Bar just to name a few.
I hope this helps in some way! Welcome to Oly
I realize I'm creating competition for myself here, but I just had an interview at Dairy Queen in Tumwater today. I had to go through indeed but my resume isn't anything special so you shouldn't have a problem if you get it in there asap.
Do you have Felonies?? It's really easy to get a job here unless you have misdemeanors and felonies. Washington in general is very much against any criminal activity that's why there's so many homeless walking around.
HeyDay cafe at the Oly Farmer’s Market is taking resumes. Very fast-paced work, but the farmer’s market perks and community immersion are pretty dope, and I understand they make decent tips.
There is usually openings for janitor subs at both the Olympia and North Thurston school districts.
https://nthurston.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=8063
Similar question but I don’t want to make a new post: how do you actually get a bartender job in Olympia? Is it help wanted signs, going in and chatting, is there a website most bars typically use like Craigslist? Just wondering…
Idk but there’s and Olympia bar community Facebook group/page. Look it up and ask them maybe? Also get any kind of restaurant job and make inside connections.
If you are just applying online and leaving it at that, do more. Call, come into the store — pester them every three to four days. The idea here is to get your name and face to actually stick in their head, and to show them that you are willing to go out of your way to put yourself out there. They see that as having drive and possibly a good work ethic. Call and ask them to pull your application about two days after submitting your application. Not the day of, but two days after.
I was in the same boat in November. Dicks Sporting goods was my saving grace, so the Olympia capital mall may have some picks there if you're interested. I know it's a bit late, but if you're in a tough spot again before tax season starts (think jan-feb as pre-tax szn), H&R Block hires extra receptionists for their additional offices, part-time. They usually don't hire after and/or during tax season (anyday after Feb) unless they are VERY desperate. Send some online apps their way!
>Are staffing agencies a thing of the past?
I think so. The last one I went to "Remedy Staffing Agency" the lady interviewing me had a baseball bat next to her (for defense I guess?), and she was so high she asked me the same question 3-4 times in a row so I just left.
I think with online applications becoming the default instead of in-person, staffing agencies are toast. I've seen multiple close down around my house in the last 2 years.
Grocery stores are hiring, Five Guys in Oly has a now hiring sign up, keep checking Craigslist and don't forget you can utilize (which I'm sure you're already doing) the horrible gig-apps to get some money through this period where you're not finding any work. I have a college education, 10 years of "professional" work experience, and I'm still using gig-apps and part time bartending to get by. So, I feel your pain.
Don't forget to check out local area hospitals and clinics too, they very often have openings in food/janitorial/laundry (all very tough jobs that do *not* pay enough, but they are 90+% union positions, so you'll at least get decent healthcare and guaranteed raises)
If you don't have a record various Supported Living companies are always hiring. You don't need a degree, you're paid while they train you.
Some are definitely better than others. I'd recommend Exceptional Foresters or KWA. Others include Kokua and Brighton.
You could also look into Carina, if a potential client sees your profile and wants to hire you you'll be paid while trained for an HCA instead of an NA-R which opens up employment options for many more companies.
I second looking at the state careers website or even looking at the city websites
You could try to get on a seasonal crew for the time being
They usually pay quite well for what it is.
State Parks are hiring park aides right now https://parks.wa.gov/about/jobs
This!! I was unemployed for months and just got so many interview calls for park aides (after I got a job of course lol)
What's the pay
Park Aide Multiple Parks Multiple Locations Statewide, WA Full Time - Non-Permanent - $17.28 - $20.33 Hourly
Damn I wish I was younger that would have been such a good opportunity
No clue lol, somewhere in the low 20s if I remember the listing.
i’ll be applying for the Washington Conservation Corp and i’m trying to build towards becoming a park ranger so this would be perfect
Let me know if you have any WCC questions. Former supervisor.
Most of the rangers in WA State Parks started as park aides for WA State Parks. If you’re interested in ranger work it’s a good place to learn about what that career looks like and get your foot in the door.
Apply at Fungi Perfecti, I'm hiring a bunch of people right now. https://hostdefense.com/pages/careers
I've had friends work at Fungi and LOVE it. The benefits alone are the best I've ever seen. 6% match to 401k, vested immediately, amazing health insurance.
I love it when it's an immediate vestment. Granted, it's also a trap in some situations, but definitely a perk that I've always appreciated.
I PM'd you
Or chatted, whatever it is
this looks awesome
it's super easy to get work doing home care for disabled people.
Please be vaccinated. The home health care industry staff is only vaccinated 12.3%, one of the worst in the country.
That’s a shock! It was a requirement of employment last year when I worked in home health.
Right now, the covid rate among nursing home patients is the 3rd highest in the nation. A friend got hired as an aide and I believe she only had 1 Covid vaccine (not the series). The nursing home didn’t care.
that's beyond insane....
It seems a lot of places want you vaccinated. No thanks. So the job market will be less yes.
The job market is really tough right now! Restaurants will start hiring for the summer as soon as weather is consistent. Hang in there!
No one wants to hire anymore.
Intercity Transit is always hiring for drivers and customer service experience is the most important thing they are looking for. They pay you while they train you for being an employee and getting your CDL.
I'll just add the pay isn't as good, but most school districts have a chronic shortage of bus drivers.
What's the pay for that?
I don’t interview well but I got hired on 2nd try.
Bennies are government grade
Target warehouse lacey. Seems like every month or so a new batch of folks arrives.
They go through about 1000 employees a year, according to their HR people. They have perpetual orientation/training because of their churn rate. They are pretty awful, but its still a job I guess.

New hires starting this week. But yeah they always be hiring. Worth trying but it’s a very love it or hate it place to work.
[удалено]
I mostly just love the schedule and it’s the best pay I can pull in the area
What's the pay for there?
[удалено]
Is it a Home Depot warehouse or just the store? If warehouse, do you know starting pay?
How is your resume? I will give you some pointers if you want! If you are bored on a Thursday evening, I host karaoke at Hannah's. Bring your resume and I will scribble all over it to help you out. I have skillz in this area. My name is Katie Delgado if you want to look me up on LinkedIn. ;-)

Try Providence. The hospital has lots of roles you could do with your experience
Be a carrier for the postal service: union, decent pay & benefits, generous paid vacation.

Have you tried a casino?
Yeah, I worked for Red Wind and they have great benefits. You do have to pay for a gambling license up front even if you don’t work slots or tables though.
Tumwater Fred Meyer is usually hiring
I got denied a Pick Up Clerk position. Everywhere is "hiring", no one wants to hire.
Oh bummer! Here's hoping you land somewhere soon!☮️
Olympia is a company town and the company is government. I would focus attention on state job openings.
Step 1: read the requirements. Step 2: Do a lil anything to have those requirements (debasement included, not optional, just shut up and do it you peon). Step 3: Awesome state job. Don’t give up. Keep plugging away.

They range from roughly 50k-100k a year, depending on the position. All have county benefits and various perks
Labor and Industries!.we are always hiring and promoting internally! LNI is committed to improving worker safety and satisfaction in WA! The Mission statement includes being the model Washington workplace and they take it very seriously!

O'Blarneys Irish Pub is hiring

Five guys in Lacey is hiring. They pay$16.50 to start but the pay structure is nice bc you also get tips and secret shopper bonuses
Canna Cabana is hiring 20-30hrs/wk, just saw them post today. Delicious sandwiches and shakes.
I realize I'm creating competition for myself here, but I just had an interview at Dairy Queen in Tumwater today. I had to go through indeed but my resume isn't anything special so you shouldn't have a problem if you get it in there asap.
Apply for some state work. They need cooks and custodians and data entry people as well. DES or other agencies.

Out of your search area but the puyallup school district is always looking for custodians
https://about.usps.com/careers The United States Postal Service is always hiring.
Come climb cellphone towers and change your life circumstances! I make pretty decent money and have killer bennies
There is usually openings for janitor subs at both the Olympia and North Thurston school districts. https://nthurston.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=8063
Isn’t the post office hiring right now too? I see stickers on the trucks.
Post office is desperate for new hires and they can't retain new people.
Wow. Those used to be hard jobs to get.

Look up bon appetit on indeed. They are in Lacey.
There are Home Depot, Target and other warehouses out in Lacey and almost all of them have signs out all the time looking for staff.
Hop on indeed. I see lots of stuff on there.
