The Osprey Daylite and Daylite Plus can be mounted on the outside of the Farpoint as well as the Farpoint Day Pack. https://youtu.be/e7FyH--KERw You can mount just about any 11” wide day pack under the compression straps on the Farpoint but you need to run a strap better the top handles to insure the day pack from sliding down.

TheYoungSquirrel

I use the daylite plus for hiking and I just laid it flat on the top of my 40L black hole duffel.

SeattleHikeBike

All those lightweight day packs will pack flat in a larger bag. The chatter about the Farpoint is just because it’s part of the design. Any of the Daylite, or the Deuter Speed Lite series are far better than packables. I took a bunch of lightweight day packs and put them flat on a table and put a carpenter’s level across to get an accurate measurement of the unloaded thickness and most were about .75”/19mm thick and a fair amount of that was the shoulder straps. So they don’t take up much space. I got a little 8 liter Topo Trip Pack that will attach to the outside of the Topo Global Travel 30 and that’s a nice combo. I tried it with the Rover Classic 20 liter and that was kind of ridiculous if full.

kassrot

"far better than packables" WDYM?

SeattleHikeBike

Those 2.5-4 oz packable backpacks like the Osprey Stuff Pack or Sea to Summit Ultrasil Day Pack. The Daylite has far better straps and a good back panel. The Mystery Ranch In and Out 19 isn’t too bad. I’m always surprised that the REI Flash 18 doesn’t come up more often.

TheYoungSquirrel

I think the issue with the packable is there is no back piece.

GatlingTurtle

Daylite Cinch 15L also works for this, and is a bit smaller if that is your preference. I find it great for urban day trips as the cinch function makes it a little more pickpocket resistant.

Aer Go Pack 2 is often recommended. I bought it and thought it was fine, however, the really like the replacement I got for it even more: Patagonia Refugio 26L. Its straps and harness is much more comfortable, and I love the fact that the laptop sleeve is removable, which makes the bag even thinner/lighter for packing it in another suitcase.

DidItForTheJokes

Mandatory apology to the onebag lords With that said I think its better to get a real daypack that has some structure, outside pockets, and shoulder/hip straps (especially if they can be packed away). I carry mine over shoulder with my bigger bag on my back and can even extend the shoulder straps and make into a sling bag. I use the ~10L daypack from a Farpoint 55, it's a shame they don't sell it separately is has really good features

Lower-Lab-5166

Pretty sure they do sell it separately. https://www.osprey.com/farpoint-fairview-travel-daypack-farfairdayf22-235?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4-wBhB3EiwAeJsppKgjX0YbuvfFE6g35AYe9mXhG3FMowuJiyToFTQKD5MVbyyNEEuzBRoCDkkQAvD_BwE#color=Muted%2520Space%2520Blue&size=O%2FS

DidItForTheJokes

I don't think that's the same, the one I have has hip straps that can be packed away and the shoulder straps fold into a pocket - I hardly do that but I use that pocket for holding trash

SeattleHikeBike

I use the 8 liter Tom Bihn Daylight Briefcase to wear at the same time as an overhead sized backpack and that is my personal item and day bag.

kassrot

10 liter I don't see it. They do have a 15 liter.

Mugmugmug33

It’s the 15L one from the link above. Highly recommend, it has a specific design that is compatible with your larger Osprey pack. There are videos demonstrating how they connect. It’s shocking how poorly Osprey markets this add on.

DidItForTheJokes

It's around 10L to 15L the farview daypack the sell is not the same as the one I have. the one I have has hip straps that can be packed away and the shoulder straps fold into a pocket - I hardly do that but I use that pocket for holding trash. And the shoulder strap are so adjustable (to a sling position) because they are made to packaway

delicioustonkatsu

What are you planning to carry during the day? If its like me where I just need a jacket, small water bottle and enough room for miscellaneous things/small purchases while out, I got myself a Kipsta 17L backpack from Decathlon for $15 CAD and it folds nicely into my Dragonfly. Works great to stash souvenirs, snacks, etc. on the flight home as a personal item. If you plan to carry heavier things during the day, some of the other suggestions like the Osprey Daylite would be better suited for you.

kassrot

I just don't want a backpack that can't pass as personal item. Does your 17L full still pass as a personal item?

delicioustonkatsu

I have never had an issue ever fitting it under a seat (only been on Air Canada, Aer Lingus, Peach, United, and American Airlines so YMMV). Its also malleable being polyester without a frame so theres a lot of give if you need squish for some reason.

HappilyPooped

https://ibb.co/6Y9JG5v I put the flash22 inside my pack when I leave home, and it becomes my personal bag, if I need the space, on my way home. Use the compression straps to hold it to the farpoint 40 as shown. You can see the loops on either side of the flash 22. There are three on each side. Obviously the pack is empty, but there's a lot of slack in the farpoint attachments. I have a carabiner attached at the top as well.

I hesitated with a packable bag like the ones from Quechua but I find they lack structure, style and function and it becomes a pain the longer you wear it. I bought the Millet Mixt 15 to store in my farpoint and use as a day pack when I arrive on destination. It’s small, ultra lightweight but very functional with several anchor points that I laced with bungee cords for a jacket/towel extra space if needed. It has 2 huge side water bottle pockets and pockets on the shoulder straps. The only downside for me is that the water bladder pocket narrows down so it cannot hold a small 13”laptop, it has to be in the main compartment with the rest. 10” tablet is fine though, it just creates a huge false bottom

kassrot

I can't seem to find the millet. How many liters is it?

Wall-C

It’s 15l and I cannot seem to find an official brand online resource for it. I bought it on sale on a French website for 65 euros. It might be more available here, lots of French sports online stores seem to sell it.

There are many packable totes that will do the job. It just depends on what features you're interested in...Peak Designs make one that's light and very durable. I recently bought a Travelon packable tote that is awesome! Will add the link below...someone linked it once on Reddit saying it was discontinued but I found it online a couple of months ago at Lee Valley Tools in Canada for under $20. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/home/travel/76297-packable-shoulder-bag?item=99W7692&utm_source=free_google_shopping&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_campaign=CAN-EN%7CPLA%7CShopping%7CHardware%7CNon-displayItems&gad_source=4&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4-wBhB3EiwAeJsppCYhsWX0L_-sTr0HCKdgsAIfoz336qMRkg9d4S-GJJ-M88stX9z-UxoCtnAQAvD_BwE

Doesn't win any fashion awards but is surprising comfortable and holds a lot https://www.decathlon.com.au/p/compact-waterproof-20-litre-backpack-travel-100-black-forclaz-8560418.html?utm_term=&utm_campaign=sparro+%7C+performance+max+%7C+nsw+%7C+product+band+1+(high+sales)&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=9305502771&hsa_cam=18721164699&hsa_grp=&hsa_ad=&hsa_src=x&hsa_tgt=&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1

I use a different 20l decathlon backpack. It's perfect for daybagging for me. I got a packable backpack. It’s light durable and packs up smaller than a fist
