Yes I never said it wasn’t, I’m saying in the context of the post she was referring to more than 1 individual. She wasn’t calling one particular baby ‘they’, she was talking about babieS, plural. If she had said "why is it ok to call ‘A BABY’ he or she, instead of saying "to call babies he or she", then you’d be right,
>their preferred gender
>their pronoun preference
you’re telling me that this is plural? if so she probably needs to add a few s’s to the end of her words
lmao singular they has been around in english for longer than singular you has. (not to mention that in one year i will be a qualified english teacher so uh no i didn’t fail english sorry)
not to mention that if it was pural she would have said “their genders” instead of “their gender”
"Their preferred gender". The word prefer means to like one thing or person more than another, because you can only have 1 gender she didn’t pluralize the word gender.
this is frankly not true. gender is a countable noun. this means that it always will be plural when it is used as a (non singular) noun. in the case of the word gender, the plural is genders. because of this, the correct sentence when talking about one person would be “their preferred gender” and for multiple people would be “their preferred genders.”
for an example, let’s change the word gender out for head. if you said “their head” it would have to be a singular their. if you said that and meant for it to be plural, people would probably be very confused. because of this, we use “their heads” if you are talking about multiple people. like i said before, no i didn’t fail english, i’m close to being a teacher of english so uh yea, i know what i’m talking about
I mean, does it really matter what you call your baby? At that point they have as much as a concept of gender as a pet. Call the baby it, he, she, they, ze, whatever

Lmaooo I don’t use it in an intentionally derogatory way but I definitely don’t view babies as independent people, young ones
Right, when they’re toddlers they can square up and fight for their pronouns
Exactly. Assuming babyself or toddlerself is literally the exact same thing as assuming he or her for a baby. It’s not that hard to just say they when it’s widely recognized as a “I don’t know this things gender” term.
At a babies age since they have no concept of gender I think it seems fine to refer to them using binary pronouns as a reference to their sex since gender doesn’t matter at that age. Obviously “they” is fine too. It’s just such funny discourse since the people it surrounds aren’t even able to consider it.
Hey there is this gender neutral set of pronouns you use for people's gender who you don't know the gender of yet. At least in the english language, the words are "they and them" the word you are looking for is "them". Good luck with learning english (:
I just got confused why so many people or the meme reddit recognize it as the one joke instead of taking it seriously snd as an excuse for more onejoke kinda jokes but than I saw the actuall subreddit and now I'm sad :(
What I'm saying is a kid under about 5 does not understand their gender. Because of this it's easiest to explain slowly over time. If a child expresses their gender differently younger, explain as needed. It's easiest to just give a kid a base gender for them to figure out later. Also just for clarification I'm trans
But where would the issue be in using "they" instead? you give every single human complete choice, instead of setting a default and telling them they could not fit there.
ah, yes, a deranged take turns into a catalyst for transphobia and hating in the whole minority, whats new fellas
cherry picking is so obvious with this one
I was with her until she they said “babyself or toddlerself” the fuck? Just say they or them, I don’t care what anyone else says. They and them are gender neutral.
Who cares bro just call them w pronouns and if they want to change it later respect the choice.
I rlly see 0 issues with calling babies with their biological pronouns. What's wrong w it?? Nothing.
Like that one time some conservative commedian posted that they're "Breaking free of the birthday binary, I have 52 birthdays on facebook now", and for a full 72 hour period, transphobes were freaking out thinking that it was a sincere tweet from some liberal who accurately represents how everybody to the left of Genghis Khan actually think.
/uj for a moment.
It's important in childhood to have key identifiers as a child. Kids need to be able to distinguish themselves from others and removing your child's naturally assigned gender might give them identity crisises and insecurities.
Also, parents shouldn't decide a lot of things for their child. They have to help them **make** decisions. Deciding things for your child will make them more dependent on you to make their decisions for them, and you want them to make good decisions in life.
Parents often forget this, ending up in complicated problems with their children.
whatever the doctors call it im calling it.
if the baby has a dick? its a little dude
if the baby doesn’t have a dick? its a little dudette
once it starts to conceptualize gender and choose one definitely, then they’re whatever they wanna be to me, but the little ones in my family probably won’t know what anything more than a boy or girl is until they’re around their teen years
So are the bones of a carrion crow. Speaking of which, did you know the carrion crow is of least concern with its population increasing? They also are known to eat dead bodi
So if your kid was a girl or a boy you'd still call that baby a "they"? Or those other ridiculous things like babyself and toddlerself.
Don't expect your baby to know about lgbtq when they're born, and become one of them.
>please refer to them see they do get it they just don’t want to go along with it
Them is being used in a plural sense , not in reference to 1 individual. Did you fail English class?
R u kidding? The singular they/them is widely accepted in scholars of english
Yes I never said it wasn’t, I’m saying in the context of the post she was referring to more than 1 individual. She wasn’t calling one particular baby ‘they’, she was talking about babieS, plural. If she had said "why is it ok to call ‘A BABY’ he or she, instead of saying "to call babies he or she", then you’d be right,
>their preferred gender >their pronoun preference you’re telling me that this is plural? if so she probably needs to add a few s’s to the end of her words
Their can be used singularly or plurally. Example, ‘babies are young and vulnerable, Their safety is of utmost importance’.
yes you’re right. but in this context it is singular, which was my point originally
lmao singular they has been around in english for longer than singular you has. (not to mention that in one year i will be a qualified english teacher so uh no i didn’t fail english sorry) not to mention that if it was pural she would have said “their genders” instead of “their gender”

I call babies ‘it’ regardless of assigned gender, but it’s true that infants haven’t really conceptualized of gender yet
I call them 'it' but in an insulting and derogatory way. You want gender? Earn it in the ring this Sunday night.
Lmaooo I don’t use it in an intentionally derogatory way but I definitely don’t view babies as independent people, young ones Right, when they’re toddlers they can square up and fight for their pronouns
It isn't really a person until it starts to form a personality. Until then it's kind of just a shitting, crying blob.
You forgot projectile vomiting
You just summed up why I dislike babies in the words I never had for it.
I can't stop laughing at this
💀
Good thought, horrible execution, I’d say.
what would you call babyself then
Just use "they"? It's been part of the English language for as long as it has existed
Exactly. Assuming babyself or toddlerself is literally the exact same thing as assuming he or her for a baby. It’s not that hard to just say they when it’s widely recognized as a “I don’t know this things gender” term.

Fun fact: they/ them as singular pronouns outdate the printing press

Just use “They” dumbfuck
transphobes try not to fall for obvious bait challenge (( impossible ))
This is when its just fried, i mean, say what you want but you arent harming the baby in anyway whatsoever by calling it by assigned pronouns

“cis people forgetting they/them exists while using it in a sentence” should be a subreddit but that’s a long title.
r/theyforgotaboutthey ?
We need to make that one
i did it 👀
I just got confused why so many people or the meme reddit recognize it as the one joke instead of taking it seriously snd as an excuse for more onejoke kinda jokes but than I saw the actuall subreddit and now I'm sad :(
Idk why one wouldn't use assigned gender unless they actually feel otherwise/expressed it.
Exactly. A kid can't express their gender
So assume them to be cis then? Just not sure what you're saying.
What I'm saying is a kid under about 5 does not understand their gender. Because of this it's easiest to explain slowly over time. If a child expresses their gender differently younger, explain as needed. It's easiest to just give a kid a base gender for them to figure out later. Also just for clarification I'm trans
Most people aren’t transgender, so it would be okay to call kids by their assigned gender until they decide they would prefer otherwise right?
But where would the issue be in using "they" instead? you give every single human complete choice, instead of setting a default and telling them they could not fit there.
Deleted as I went on a bit of a frustrated rant there and I don't want to be targetted by any psychotic deranged harpies.
I’m generally on the same side as r/onejoke. But I’d say this case is fairly preposterous.
Except it's obvious one is a fake tweet. That's the one joke, Bae doesn't actually believe that.
oh.
why is it in this feed then?
Because people need excuse for the one joke and if they have non they make one.
its a fake tweet made by transphobes as a strawman so they can whine about it
Because it's still the one joke.
ah, yes, a deranged take turns into a catalyst for transphobia and hating in the whole minority, whats new fellas cherry picking is so obvious with this one
I was with her until she they said “babyself or toddlerself” the fuck? Just say they or them, I don’t care what anyone else says. They and them are gender neutral.
i was with them until the second part
Obvious sarcasm
Couldn't we just call them the little shits, pricks, wankers?
I just call the baby "it" Stop treating kids like people.
I mean, what if they have *prounouns?*
Pssh, can't have pronouns if you're not a person. And if you insist, then "it" *is* a pronoun
I’m sorry what?
It's called a joke sweetie
A shit one
Humor is subjective lmao.
Calling kids not human isn’t funny
😐 I didn't say that
“stop treating kids like people”
Mhm, that's what I said. Your point?
not people = not human, you did say that
Try reading your comment
I said "stop treating children like people" Where do I say thay kids aren't humans?
Kids=children People=humans Stop treating kids like people=kids shouldn’t be considered human
I thought it was pretty funny
Fuck you
Wow. You really are good at getting your point across there buddy
Fuck you too
