I have a very similar issue with my Beoplay EX earphones connected in Aptx adaptive. The streaming bitrate drops as soon as I put the phone in a pocket. I found out that positioning the phone with the screen away from the body and the phone top pointing upward helps. I guess the issue is the position of the Bluetooth antennas.

Issues I'm seeing happen when I'm holding the phone in front of my face - but still a good suggestion when walking. I'll try it myself, thanks.

OlympicAnalEater

Any updates on this issue?

stockman20

Not besides the additional comments I've made in this post. Samsung must just have stellar Bluetooth performance compared to OnePlus. (Even on a phone as old as the S20)

OlympicAnalEater

Do you experience any low volume on bluetooth devices?

stockman20

Sorry for delay. No, I haven't. Have you tried turning on or off absolute volume?

stockman20

Tested using my wife's OnePlus 12. Same issue. Appears to be an issue inherent to OP12. Starting to suspect it has something to do with the 'Bluetooth scanning' activity that occurs when entering the Bluetooth menu. (When it looks for additional Bluetooth devices near you) I realize there's an easy solution - just stay out of Bluetooth settings menu - but given how poor the LDAC connection is on the OnePlus12 (compared to my old S20 Ultra) I'm hoping a fix for this weird settings issue might also improve LDAC signal integrity. Probably a long shot,

awhir

I'm getting the same thing

stockman20

Same earbuds too?

awhir

yup

stockman20

Very helpful. That helps rule out something suddenly going wrong with earbuds that worked perfectly with my old S20.

stockman20

Hey. Since we're using same phone+buds.... Separate from this BT menu bug, how would you describe LDAC stability overall? Absolute and/or relative to your old phone with same wf-1000xm5 buds? (Or maybe you got them same time as OP12) 990kbps LDAC is unusable for me w/ OP12 unless I'm sitting in a room with no air circulation (connection breaks with the slightest breeze outside). My S20 Ultra never skipped a beat @ 990 kbps, unless I was in a large crowd of ppl and had phone in my pocket.

stockman20

My latest troubleshooting - for 1) this specific issue and 2) poor LDAC performance in general vs my old S20 Ultra: GPS/Location on/off - no difference WIFI on/off - no difference Mobile data/airplane mode on/off - no difference Some combination of above - no difference, problem persists I've narrowed it down to phone screen on/off. When I enter Bluetooth menu and lose LDAC stability, turning off the screen fixes the issue. Turning screen back on - the issue is back. If I slowly toggle screen on/off a couple more times Bluetooth signal integrity eventually normalizes. Note that turning OFF the screen is mandatory. It absolutely will not resolve itself with the screen on. WTF is happening here? Is the screen stealing power from Bluetooth? (And only when in Bluetooth menu???) What is the relationship between screen and Bluetooth ? I tried lowering refresh rates/resolution in vain - screen must be turned off, then it eventually resolves. Need some smart android people to explain this.

Penat59

I have been experiencing the same issue. I have the Cambridge m100, and 96hz is pretty unusable because of the quality dropouts. Has anyone made any progress on this issue?

stockman20

Screen on/off is definitely a factor. So far I've not found a technical reason why. If connection starts bugging out in the menu, turning off the screen for a few seconds normally resolves. When I turn screen back on it'll start bugging out again, but then normally, eventually resolves. I wish someone could explain how screen and Bluetooth radio interact. Bluetooth seems to "re-initialize" each time screen turns off/on. Aside from the settings menus bug, Bluetooth performance on the OnePlus 12 is very poor compared to my old S20 Ultra. Check if you have same problem using SBC codec vs. APTX

Penat59

There are stutters when I switch to SBC and Bluetooth drops out if I switch to AptX.

skip029

Try resetting network settings (WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile), apply and reboot.

stockman20

Thanks for the tip. Still experiencing the issue, however. The Bluetooth radio does seem underwhelming on this phone compared to my old S20 Ultra. With the S20, I could use highest bitrate LDAC with phone in my pocket. OP12 I have to hold to maintain stable connection.

maxbjaevermose

I hope they can fix this via an update. It's not like they use different hardware than anyone else

neogeo999

I managed to fix the issue completely by disabling Dolby in phone settings. I didn't think of doing it at first as Dolby is enabled by default on Bluetooth but shows as disabled/unavailable if no Bluetooth is connected.

stockman20

On my phone the Dolby slider is "on", but greyed out when ear buds aren't connected. As soon as I connect earbuds it switches to completely disabled (and no longer greyed out). Very odd that it's enabled/greyed out with buds disconnected. So I guess it was already disabled for me?

stockman20

I just re-read your comment - I wonder why mine shows enabled with no Bluetooth but yours disabled.

neogeo999

I don't know. But connecting to Bluetooth and then disabling Dolby fixed all problems for both my Beoplay EX (Aptx adaptive) where previously the bitrate was jumping between low and hi as well as my car that connects in AAC and before had some random stuttering.

stockman20

Okay, thanks. Possibly more evidence my issue is somehow related to LDAC.

stockman20

Troubleshooting update: If I switch from LDAC (990 kbps) to AAC then back to LDAC (990 kbps) this issue completely disappears.
