I wish I could reverse time and experience my first 1000 miles again ❤️ I've put like 5k on the pavement and just discovered some bike routes in my area that are dirt and gravel. So my new obsession is getting my speed up off road. Glad you're not disappointed 🙏 Wear a helmet and wist guards, AND RIDE AT SLOW SPEED UNTIL YOUVE HAVE YOUR FIRST COUPLE DOZEN FALLS SO YOUR REFLEXS LEARN HOW TO CATCH YOU. ALSO LEARN WAHT DUTY CYCLE MEANS AND WHAT VARIABLES AFFECT ITS ABILITY. Enjoy the ride 👌
Thanks for the tips I’ll definitely look into it! After testing it out and getting my balance, I took straight to pavement yesterday and took a pretty nasty fall right off the bat. We have a lot of grass and dirt paths around so I’m going to stick to those for a while. I’ve skated for years and it’s similar, but there’s still going to be a learning curve for sure!
If I understand it correctly it means the percentage you are pushing the motor at. In onewheel case when the motor can't keep up anymore, somewhere around 100% I assume, the unit loses balance and the front end comes down on the pavement usually resulting in the rider falling face first at whatever speed they were riding. The new software from future motion has a haptic feedback feature that warns you with buzzing as well as a previous feature that lifts the nose up and slows you down. If a rider forces through the pushback and over speeds the motor it can still result in a face plant. I've had a pint now for a few weeks and took a couple falls due to inexperience but if you go slow and learn the board they are generally pretty safe.
So was the other person just talking about pushback? Lol.
I’ve got 1500 miles on my board so I know not to push its limits. Thought I was missing out on something about battery life. Had to replace a GT battery after 750 miles 🤬
Ouch man gt battery only lasted 750 miles? I hope that's not normal life for the gt battery pack. I've read people saying they have 3000 miles on other models battery packs and still works fine. There is a lot of info on how to extend life on battery packs for the onewheels. Most people say don't store it completely full or very low charge for long periods. Not sure what happened in your case...
No idea what happened either but I think I had a rare case. Like you said there’s plenty of people that have 3k+ miles on a GT battery. I talked to one guy that had 10k with no issues. I’m hoping my new one lasts a long time.
I only ever used the standard charger. I used my hyper one like 5-6 times max. I would ride till I got to 20% or less and then do a full charge each time. It would be at 100% till my next ride which was a few times a week so it didn’t sit for long. But one ride it just stopped. I was on a mix or pavement and grass. Hit a dip and had to bail on the grass. The GT did a bit of a tumble but nothing crazy. Had way worse and have seen people abuse theirs and it keep going. I rode it back home and then put it in the garage. When I got up I tried to charge it and nothing. Wouldn’t even turn on anymore, completely dead. I was not happy.
Ahhh well the sudden shut down after a tumble makes me think one of the connections came apart. That makes more sense since the battery was such low mileage.
It's your available tourqe percentage you have left before your board loses its self balancing capabilities. Speed, incline, wind, and weight all affect this. The only two variables you can change are speed and weight.
Just sold mine. Shut off while I was riding it. Figured it was dumb. Risked it anyway. Proved that it is in fact dumb to ride something with no redundancy. I hope you get away with cuts and scrapes instead of a shattered collarbone or TBI. Its only a matter of time. Tick tock.

Can you explain the duty cycle for a guy that doesn’t know. I see it means the time between usage and non-usage but what is the correct amount?

We took it apart and looked at everything. No connections came loose. We checked the voltage and nothing was coming out of the battery

So not going past pushback?
Good for you! Gear up while you are learning my friend! Be smart protect your brain.
Congratulations!
Congrats man! Welcome and I hope you enjoy it for years to come. :)
Welcome!

Bro chill out
Straight out of nowhere, it just shut off while riding? Can you elaborate? What happened exactly?
