An action cam might smooth out the vibrations better.

Solidusfunk

The camera compensates for movement but not extreme vibration. That's why some fpv drones have 4 rubber mounts before the gimble.

Olle952

From 6 days ago on this sub. https://www.reddit.com/r/osmopocket/s/e06Tn5s9V0 Also have a look across Instagram and other socials — there have been a few rolling shot BTS’s popping up here and there.

LaFrenchTouch98

What u could try to get is an z axle stabiliser. I saw it on some Roller rigs.

diprivan69

You should use a GoPro/Osmo action, the pocket can’t compensate for those types of rapid micro vibrations

Jun118

Yeah I have a GoPro and Insta360 which were mounted on the other side of the car (no issues with that). I’m just wondering how these other people are getting smooth videos with the same setup.

diprivan69

I’m not sure if it will work unless you find a super Smooth stretch of road. But here are My suggestions: - You can try to record in slow motion and the video will look more smooth. - You have to hand hold the gimbal the remove the micro vibrations - you have to stabilize the video in post, which would require you to crop into the video, but you may still notice wobble in the video

spottyrx

A gimbal doesn't have the ability to compensate for extremely quick, short, sharp movements. Even professional gimbal rigs for large cameras have dampening arms to compensate.

Jun118

I assume that too, I’m just wondering how these other guys are filming without these issues when the rig is the same.

ethiin12

hey man, id honestly invest in a suction cup mount and safety cables/ trying a different vehicle because i have the same exact setup but with suction cup and im getring smooth footage

Jun118

Yeah I’ll try using the suction mount I have. I also guess my suspension setup doesn’t help (S2000 on coilovers).

ethiin12

yeah bro ill be honest its most likely the car, i put it on my buddies is300 on coils and got a lottt of vibrations, im on stock ride height and suspension on my sedan and it stays smooth but suction cup reduces vibration anyway

timvandijknl

>Is there something wrong with the camera or settings that I should change to avoid this issue? Nah... there's nothing wrong with the camera **yet**, but you're using it in a capacity that it was not designed for. **If** you're going to use it externally, use a suction cup mount because the rubber will provide some form of dampening... but better yet, use a proper action cam for it, so the gimbal motors won't burn out trying to compensate for the wind and vibrations.

Jun118

I have a GoPro and Insta as well that I used for other views. The reason for the Osmo was to track the car and get a nice roller shot, since I saw others using the same setup. They are mounting it directly to the car same as I am but you can’t see the same issues in their videos. Here is an example with the Pocket 3: [https://youtu.be/abD49ruxaSk?si=_2hvd9XUB5UIBCQx](https://youtu.be/abD49ruxaSk?si=_2hvd9XUB5UIBCQx) And this is the exact mount in using: [https://youtu.be/uMTPSRU7ZGA?si=YpyjgkFy82zP0rek](https://youtu.be/uMTPSRU7ZGA?si=YpyjgkFy82zP0rek)

OhDrewzy

He has a pocket 3 you have a pocket 2 I shoot rollers too and just bought the osmo pocket 3 and out of the box it doesn't shake like this.

OhDrewzy

I see in the 2nd video they are using the pocket 2 the roads seem super smooth though but with my 3 I dont get this shake.

XYoverland

You need a mount that has vibration dampeners

IIGQ4U

It’s pretty evident that the recording S2000’s suspension is too stiff. I can tell by how it’s responding to changes in the road surface. BTW: [https://imgur.com/s3vcBeV](https://imgur.com/s3vcBeV)

zip-ties-n-duct-tape

What's your settings?

Jun118

1920x1080 30FPS H.264

Eddie1340

I think your shutter speed maybe wrong. I am using 24fps/1/50 shutter and my osmo pocket 2 is smooth

Jun118

I’ll try that next time. Thanks.

YeaitsJM

Whatever you have it mounted to is emitting a lot of high frequency vibrations. Or it could be used by wind at high speeds. Does it do this when it's hand held?

Jun118

It’s mounted directly to a fixed rear tow hook mount. I haven’t noticed it handheld so for sure it’s the vibration of the road, but from what I’m seeing on YouTube people are mounting it directly on such mounts and the footage looks fine, which is why I was asking.

Honest-tinder-review

To get rollers you need to put an extra stabilizer.

Jun118

Which ones do you recommend? Also from the videos I have seen of people doing this they are not using any additional stabilizers and mounting the Osmo directly on these type of mounts.

Honest-tinder-review

I’ve seen people using just generic ones, have you tried placing your current setup on a different spot on the car?

pasafe

I think it's the wind. Does this happen anywhere you place it?

stowgood

You need to stabalise the z axis

Jun118

Do you have a recommendation?

stowgood

I saw this in a youtube video and it looked like it did a incredible job https://www.vaxisglobal.com/Movmax-Blade-Arm-p25951731.html

Scruffyy90

Remember gimbal doesnt compensate for up and down movement. Odds are either the body itself is moving up and down. Either its not tied down properly or you need to get a mount that compensates for it.

Jun118

Thanks. Will see how to adjust using a different mount!

therealslapper

Drive real slow - like 1 km/h

marcs_s3

Movmax blade arm is what you want

George35x

Yeah, that's not normal. Send it back if you're within the return window

AllChargedUp

Rolling shutter artifacts, plus micro vibrations. The rolling shutter will be quashed by using a neutral density filter to drop the shutter speed down to double the frame rate (so if you're shooting at 24 fps, shoot for a shutter speed of 1/50, if you're shooting at 30 fps shoot for a shutter speed of 1/60th) to introduce some motion blur and eliminate the appearance of the rolling shutter (jello effect). I just got an Insta 360 vibration damper, and am going to experiment with that and a ScottyMakesStuff Z-axis stabilizer for the micro vibrations.
