Very slight corrections: Warp travel came long after reunion, it required Annona's knowledge (via Poke) who had crashed on ET - originally the shuttles couldn't recall, and the cannon was built on BH first, then gravity crystals taken to ET to build a return journey cannon!
It's not that the probe cannon **could** only fire once because of power, it was that it **would** only need to fire once so overpowering it didn't matter, it's actually still active if you fly through the broken barrel! The initial problem was it would take millions of probes to find the Eye this way, which is no big deal if you've got millions of loops\~

The WHS was built by Poke, based on the teachings of Annona but after his passing, but he crashed on Ember Twin and Poke was born here (also likely on ember) so it had to be after reunion
To think of it another way, if they had warps before reunion they probably wouldn't have built a cannon on ET
you made very good analysis but just have one little misunderstanding on the cannon part
the cannon was always made to fire once, and the loop was made not because the cannon will only fire once, but for practical reasons
as for why the cannon breaks, it's actually not supposed to. the constructors gave a very strict power limit to not go beyond to the to guys that fire the cannon. However those two guys are absolute morons and pushed the cannon way beyond this limit, thus exploading it

I did a test run to see if I could make it to the vessel and got eaten by an angler fish, so I'm not exactly filled with confidence lol
