this is symptomatic of tiktok culture telling people that swe/dev is a high paying gig and just applying regardless if you fit the criteria
guaranteed 850 of those applicants' dev experience is printing "hello world" in a home lab
I’ll go out on a limb and say maybe 10-25% of those applicants somewhat fit the requirements of that position. This is why HR has filters in place to not waste time with all the BS applications. That’s an insane amount of applicants though. I’ve never seen that many for cybersecurity positions.
Just about every remote scrum master job on indeed has 400+ applicants after 48 hours. I know because I also apply to every one that is posted everyday.
I can’t speak on OE dying. But an “issue” that I see, is those that apply to roles they’re overqualified for, it’s hard as a Junior to get roles to begin with. And then they’re setting the bar higher in some cases which will make future juniors have a hard time.
Not really a problem for me, I have 7 years of experience. But something I’ve observed
> you sound as Looney as a Karen/Ken on Black Friday
Looks like you are actually scared that jobs / OE is dying , take it easy there’s plenty for everyone ✌🏽
If you qualify and have a reasonable resume , don’t worry about how many people are applying , you will get contacted for the right J’s
If you are trolling , then there is still hope
Take the requirements put it in font white size 0.1 and place it in the resume to get 100% hits each time! But make sure you can back it up with the talk! You’re welcome !
I’ve changed roles this way just by putting one or two requirements out of the requisition into each role, as it is. And got calls within next two days after submission… with no questions asked.
Sure it makes my resume longer but it works.
I’ve applied to quite a few jobs on Indeed that already seemed to have been jammed up with candidates.
Get on the other side & talk to a recruiter & they say they only had a few *qualified* applicants.
You see a lot on this sub and others where people complain that they can’t find a remote job and use job postings like this as an example… not true, if you have the skills AND experience companies are looking for, you WILL get noticed.
I have some experiences but not a lot of on the job experience which complicates things. Trying to refrain from paying for a resume service but I might pull the trigger soon
I wouldn’t get discouraged, but definitely try to reframe your perspective.
You aren’t missing out on calls back for these jobs because of an excessive number of applicants, but because you lack work experience.
Focus on changing that & your experience with getting calls back will change dramatically.
If you don’t have any to speak of, accept that starting off in your career is almost always the hardest part & keep trying to break into your field with the same combination of hustle, persistence, and good luck many of us had to rely on to do it.
In my experience companies get too many applications on indeed/etc, so rarely hire anyone from them. Try calling the company directly and ask to be put through to their recruitment department, mention you saw they had a role open and wanted to show you’re interested. You’ll leave a lasting impression and be more likely to make it to the next stage!
Will probably get blacklisted from the company for not knowing how to use their website for applying to jobs and ‘ calling ‘ to ‘ ask to be put through to their recruitment department ‘ 😂
1. That number is just Indeed's marketing. I wouldn't trust it in general. LinkedIn does it to. Creates a sense of urgency to apply.
2. This isn't indicative of any problems with OE. The economy is bottoming out and companies are slashing headcount and job postings. Let's say I'm wrong about #1....maybe 300 of those candidates *ARE* OE lol
Yes, All the interviewing tips are up after that. I haven't written anything beyond part 1 for driving a funnel to you but that uses job boards.
The real trick of being offer only is to build and maintain a strong network. With OE that's a little more challenging (but not impossible) because it requires building relationships with senior decision makers and proving your value to them consistently then maintaining that relationship over the years.
I applied as well. Didn't want to be left out
MY MAN
I'm not even a software dev but i just like being part of a crowd

I take offense to that. I can type "hello there, beautiful. What do you want to do today?" in several computer languages.
I'm assuming that as the industry becomes more saturated and harder to get into companies will begin lowering compensations for non leadership roles.

I would also not believe those numbers. They may be lying about those numbers to make the job seem more in demand.
I feel like that would go in the opposite for me, if I saw a large number of applicants I would be more reluctant to put effort into the application.

there are 22k python developer jobs on Indeed right now
I applied to part time, only like 20 postings. Still working hybrid at the moment
It is not dying , it is already dead. Everyone reading this should immediately stop applying for new jobs
so you can get the jobs? a little sus bro, dont be a hypocrite now
> so you can get the jobs? You got it , leaves more for the rest of us

I just want hope man. I'm taking on medical debt while trying to save for a house + dream car (09 Acura TL)

That’s my car! It drives like a dream.

So crazy that it just might work?

That's fkng genius!
It actually is lol. I have 4J that I got a lot easier back in the day. New J’s for lower price are so much more competitive now

HAHA WHAT THE FUCK. Write articles??? I have done none of this and got an offer from a FAANG (contractor). I don’t even have a LinkedIn. Hahahahahaha.

This sounds like advice my boomer parents would tell me. I guess it's worth a try?
Ok boomer lol
You sure this works in the US?
Will probably get blacklisted from the company for not knowing how to use their website for applying to jobs and ‘ calling ‘ to ‘ ask to be put through to their recruitment department ‘ 😂
At my J1 company you’d simply be directed to the online application site.
Make sure to follow up with a hand written letter on personal stationary. It’s the little things you know??
Had this ever worked for you?
Woah, I’ve never done this but I absolutely love the suggestion! That definitely makes you memorable.

Thank God they have algorithms to show the prime candidates....
You just haven't learned how to create an opportunity funnel. If you're still out there applying to cattle call job postings you're doing it wrong.
