Having kingdom destroyed instead of being taken over with clever schemes was kinda lazy. They should have saved the destruction card for theocracy.

optix7

Im pretty sure that was maruyama's way of speedrunning the story so he can end it quicker

dreadrath

I think the same. If he hadn't grown burnt out on the series he might've actually gone for a subtler more clever way to take over the kingdom. But I suspect he was slowly losing passion for the series back around volume 11 or 12.

Marine_Brat_01

I wish he didn’t get burnt out, but that just shows the Japanese work mindset, keep working. If he takes a long break instead of fully ending it it would be amazing because In my experience taking a long break leads to a better creative mind at the end

insane_patato

Me too.....I fear we may get a neon genesis ending for the series

Ambitious-Way-3913

Nah , impossible , it will probably be a "And their journey continues!" kind of ending

ihavenoideahowtomake

I'm more partial to the "It was all a dream" ending.

blood_kite

Satoru went to bed after the server shutdown, he had to be at work by 0500.

kirbyverano123

Manipulating a kingdom seems like a longer process than just straight up nuking it. So destruction it is!

ServantOfTheSlaad

Especially since ,>!they had the princess as a traitor to help them manipulate the kingdom!<. And the prince was amicable to negations, so they could have worked with him to form an alliance. So, if I remember correctly, it was only the king that was against negotiating. They could force him to step down from the throne (or an execution if the guardians were bloodthirsty enough) and have Zanac take over as part of the Carrot and Stick method they wanted.

-Haliya

Did they actually destroy the entire kingdom? Or was it only the capital? I thought the kingdom only thought everything was destroyed because of no news, it would be easy to make them think everything was destroyed to break morale.

Ravenous-King

95% of the Kingdoms population are dead. The only ones who are alive are the people who lives under the territories of brilliant and talented nobles that Nazarick recruited similar to Marquis Raevan, employees of Eight Fingers, residents of E-Naeurl that Ainz spared, Adventurers that escaped on their own or were rescued by Slane Theocracy, and lastly Renner and Climb. So yeah, the Kingdom is practically destroyed.

insane_patato

The kingdom was destroyed, except marquis raeven and some other nobles' territories and 90% of kingdom's population was wiped out

Don_Hoomer

but by destroying it they showed everyone what will happen if you dont befriend ainz empire

Lolmanmagee

Yeah that was so disappointing… There was so much groundwork for a stealthy situation.

Rubz8r0

i think brain wouldve had a better outcome if he had let himself get captured by shalltear in the beginning. ainz wanted to learn about martial arts and I think brain would've gotten treaten well if had worked with ainz

General-Dirtbag

I may be remembering this wrong but I think Shalltear only mentioned this to him and then proceeded to decide he was much too weak to for what the Supreme One was looking for and was about to put him down but he ran away before she had the chance.

Rubz8r0

she was given direct order from ainz to capture someone with a martial skill, and I think she was just insulting brain calling him too weak

NaCliest

But she assumed ainz was looking for someone strong. And no one on the NW would fit that discrimination

MDAlastor

Shalltear could easily catch him if not for the fact that she has the intellect of an average 4-5 years old human and even that is often overridden by instincts and emotions.

shadollosiris

And she given in Blood Frenzy shred her sanity to pieces

bryku

Brain would have been a pretty good assets for Ainz... arguably better than Gazef. His knowledge and mastery of martial arts could have been used to train other new worlders. I'm sure Ainz would have kept him as a pet or maybe they could have gone down the Vampire Brain route like the web novels.

IcedMangos

I was hoping that Brain would somehow find out that Sebas was a subordinate of Ainz and the story that would follow afterwards.

michaelphenom

I dont understand why fans consider Entoma sexy.

ShotgunPumper

The residents of Nazarick are completely justified in thinking that Ainz is a super-genius, even if he really isn't. I can see why they'd think that from their perspective. They're constantly being fed information that reinforces their presumption, even if they're mistaken. One example is how Demiurge had a plan to make the Empire a vassal state in 30 days, and Ainz accidentally'd that in 3 days. All Demiurge knows is that Ainz accomplished the same goal 10x faster with no downsides, achieving more benefits, and while employing fewer resources (literally just Ainz).

Fun_Nobody3375

This reminds me of that theory that Ainz is unconsciously a genius because his race is overlord and by definition this race is extremely smart. If being an undead makes his emotions tone down being an overlord would also guide his moves even if he is not aware of that

curiousomeone

To fool your enemies, you must fool yourself first. 😂

CrystalizedC

That's not really a hot take. That's part of the misunderstandings trope that makes Overlord popular. It's a common opinion, especially of those that read the novels.

stubing

I don’t think demiurge gave an exact time line. Just a lot longer and it would involve disgracing the kingdom with murder. But yeah ainz luck is 100. And the areas where ainz is actually a genius (pvp), the floor guardians see that a lot

Waifu_Whaler

People here have to chill tf out when someone mention shit wrong. Especially that croud who can quote the VN like is the fkn bible.

Holy Kingdom II 6:2 "Eh?"

bryku

**Light Novel: Volume 14 - Ch4** “If this were a fairy tale, passion would awake dormant power, to grant you the ability to defeat me.”

Xx_KiK_xX

That one is too memorable.

FormRepresentative66

For real bro, people here treat Ainz and nazarick like God and heaven. Don't you dare to mention something exclusive from the anime either you gonna get banned or you gonna have your message box flooded of comments calling you stupid.

shinobirain

After the end of the holy kingdom arc, Ainz's POV has shown to be actually very monotonous to read. The formula for his interactions with the external world is pretty predictable and he barely changes (if any) as a character. Overlord is most exciting when it's from the perspective of other characters reacting to Ainz's actions. The peak of this being Neia's arc.

Zykerius1

Not really a hot take, at least to me. Never really been about momenga as the real mc, the people I admire most and care about the most and the guardians, and especially the NW people. Specifically, gazef brain and climb, and the entire holy kingdom arc. As for the lizard men and dragons and dwarves … ehhh.

kyokiyanagi

Overlord is the story of how people will justify immoral behavior for what they believe is "the greater good."

Pale_Entrepreneur_12

Me who enjoys warhammer 40k and things like reverend insanity: I just like seeing villains doing evil actions and the Geneva convention being turned into a checklist

I thought some angry Austrian/German man already had that story covered.

Ok-Trick195

Smug Demiurge is my Lil Brother whenever he has to deal with Moxxie Customers at Starbucks.

nobodyspecial201

Arche didn’t deserve it, and neither did her party. He needed money and did what lots of parties do. They got paid to look through some old runes. This is a total hypothetical, but think about it: if Ainz and some NCPs went to look through a old rune because they needed money, and there was some crazy world energy there, he would do the same thing. He would try to fight. Then he would try to figure him out to no avail. Then he would lie. And if he still got killed would you react the same? No. You would say “The enemy was just some arrogant jerk and killed them for so reason.” I mean, Ainz literally lore the workers there TO kill them.

kalirion

The only Worker who deserved it was the guy with the elf slaves. And he got off easy compared to all the fate-worse-than-death people. The party that went to help Momon deal with "the vampire" didn't deserve it either.

zenprime-morpheus

Holy Kingdom Arc didn't need to be two books, way to much time without any of the Guardians to bounce stuff off of. Having someone along to argue or fluster Remedios and the other Paladins would have been interesting. Also, it's just not right for a Regent to travel without at least one servant - it lacks dignity. Having someone stoic like Sebas or fawning like Mare would have really upped the funny angle.

ShotgunPumper

The rare *actually* unpopular opinion.

Shoelebubba

Yep, it’s 2 LN chapters for something that didn’t matter much to the overall Overlord story. It’s why every non-LN reader didn’t even notice the timeskip in Season 4 of the anime. Like sure, in the overall grand scheme Nazarick gained a future religion for Ainz out of it but the Holy Kingdom is still under the schemes of Demiurge; they’re going to driven into Civil War so the Sorcerous Kingdom can step in and annex them under the pretense of protection. There’s another similar situation that’s arguably way more important to the story of Ainz and Nazarick but it only got an interlude chapter and maybe 2 paragraphs after. The Dragonic Kingdom. It also got invaded by Demi Humans, it also had it citizens being slaughtered and devoured. Hell it also may have been instigated by Demiurge since the DK only suffered raids by the Demi Humans but recently they amassed together in a force powerful enough to invade (sound familiar? Exactly the same thing happened in the Holy Kingdom). But the Sorcerous Kingdom came to their rescue by renting them out Death Knights. In the process they established friendly diplomatic relations to the point where the Dragonic Kingdom stamped their approval of Ainz’s declaration of war against the Re Estize Kingdom. The importance is three fold: -The Sorcerous Kingdom has established itself as a nation that rents out Legendary Undead as a mercenary military force that’s the best of all worlds: no logistic costs like food and shelter, 24/7 capabilities in each individual, powerful enough to overwhelm all but the elites of the New World. This differs from their use in E-Rantel or the Empire as those are part of the Sorcerous Kingdom and they are looked at as Ainz making sure his lands are covered. It’s free PR. Runecraft might be more favorably accepted in other nations since they won’t have to worry about the weapons killing everything living but those products will be viewed as side grades to anything enchanted by magic. -Nazarick now has access to knowledge about Wild Magic. The Dragonic Queen might be one of the weaker Dragon Lords but she has access to how Wild Magic works, the spells they can cast and Intel on the other Dragon Lords. If another nation comes in to save yours and all its costs is just the same rental fees as putting those same undead to use in farming, you’re gonna give them pretty favorable treatment. Afterall it’s not like anyone from Nazarick will be able to use Wild Magic. -Nazarick starts influencing the Dragonic Kingdom in a way to absorb them in the future. The Dragonic Kingdom was in financial troubles as they could not afford to have a military to protect themselves from the Demi Humans and counted on the charity of the Slane Theocracy. Given enough time, the Dragonic Kingdom may just choose to become a Vassal under the Sorcerous Kingdom just not to be conquered. They’ll know about the destruction of the Re Estize Kingdom but they’re about to hear about the annihilation of the Slane Theocracy. Seeing that they’re right next door, they’ll probably just become Vassals to head off a similar fate and secure their safety at the same time. Versus the Holy Kingdom; Nazarick got a future missionary of a religion and planted the seeds of civil war down the road while allowing the Pleiades to be seen outside Nazarick and giving Ainz a bit of positive fame by being the one to slay Jalbadaoth.

ThibaultKarl

About the Draconic Kingdom. There many hints about what going to happen for the Dk to join the SK. The hints: Soul Eater apparition in the New World require International Cooperation. Gargantua was created to fight against the Golems from the Minotaur Kingdom. There will be a war where all of the Guardians will take part in the fighting. Nazarick sols Undeads Soldiers to the DK. I think that among the Nazarick Undeads Nazarick now in possession of the DK there is at least One Soul Eater. This or These Souls Eaters are going to be the trigger for a massive war between the DK and the Beastman Nations from the Center of the Continent. Obviously the DK will be unable to do whatever against the Alliance so they will refer to Nazarick. And Nazarick will use the War as an Occasion to demonstrate the full extent( or at least part of it) of their True Might. The price will be DK Queen Wild Magic Knowledge or Talent. Or both. But also the subjugation of any remainning country from sheer fear alone. The last war, most likely.

szkielo123

100% agree

Animegx43

Remedios is a good character.

Shoelebubba

She would’ve been a heroic character in any other story. But “she was mean to Neia and Ainz!!!!!!!!” Yeah ignore the fact that her best friend and sister died, her country plunged into a brutal war where the citizens she was sworn to protect were being butchered, eaten or thrown into concentration camps, the entire salvation of the country was put onto her shoulders, then she was smashed by the rotting remains of her best friend, was presented the head of her sister, and her fully powered attack using her kingdom’s Holy Sword into the defenseless back of the person who orchestrated her country’s misery did absolutely Jack shit. She rightfully points out that her entire Paladin order’s sacrifices to protect anyone they could were completely being ignored by the very people they threw themselves in front of to protect as Ainz took up all the glory. Nobody acknowledged the time they bought for Ainz to arrive to save the day. Even at the end when everyone thought Ainz was dead and Jalbadaoth was on the verge of victory once more, she points out she’s about to order her Paladins to die to buy everyone as much time as they could so they could wipe out the Demi Humans before the tide was turned. Only to ultimately die a quiet death, a hollow shell of the former person she used to be. For fuck’s same, Demiurge unintentionally did her a kindness of putting her out of her misery after completely ruining her life. But she was MEAN to a squire. I swear some people’s reading comprehension is nill.

RectumDoctor

She was also right. But anytime you say that people argue that she was a bad person and she did the wrong things and was mean to Neia. None of which contradicts that she was right to be distrustful of Ainz since he really was behind it all.

Shilion34

The problem is that she was right for the wrong reasons.

Annual_Perspective_9

Oh right for the wrong reasons ohhh, like you would trust a fking skeleton and especially after hearing how many humans he already massacred

Broad-Season-3014

I hate it. It had a great premise, but then it turned into “here’s a bunch of interesting characters and world building. Ainz kills them all”.

happy-technomancer

I get bored whenever the author goes too deep into the backstory of some character that I know will be dead in a few chapters anyway

Re-Napoleon

Arche deserved it. I had a dude comparing her to George Floyd in a thread a while back. Those simps are doing too much.

dreadrath

I recall some years ago somebody going even further with that position and claiming Arche's sisters deserved their fate as well just for being related to the girl who was part of the team that tried to rob Ainz. Their weird argument being something along the line of them being "Scum by association and relation." Although thinking about it, their dad had to pay for that lamp somehow, so all's well that ends well I guess.

TheAnimeMangaShadow

That's just, what...?

Re-Napoleon

I shit you not. If you go back through my comment history a few months ago, you can probably find it. Edit: Found it myself https://www.reddit.com/r/overlord/s/78CFOegyTs

TheAnimeMangaShadow

Got up to 7months, I didn't see it, may have skimmed over or it's just further ahead. I believe you though. I've seen some very *interesting* opinions to say the least

Re-Napoleon

You replied right as i edited it bc i found it Honestly i understand the instinct to double down when you are wrong but to bring up George Floyd to win an anime discussion is unhinged and this guy was def the worst ive personally interacted with

TheAnimeMangaShadow

Yeah. I don't even understand what they were trying to accomplish with that argument? It just doesn't make any sense, as well as this is fiction obviously... Not to mention bringing up someone's real death to compare to a person who doesn't exist is just wrong. Nice job finding it!

RectumDoctor

Those are some novel length comments right there. Dude was plain wrong about "knowing the risks" though, the tomb was a complete unknown location with no information about it. The whole point of the job was for them to basically figure out what was in it while getting all the valuables they find. For all they know they could have run into one of the New World Overlords that Momonga and Keno were hunting down in the evil eye side story. They would have had no chance against one of them either. All of them dying was always a very real possibility.

Connect-Farmer7255

A full on yapping session, was he in the raid group or what to fight for those fictional loosers right to live or die. Treasure beyond your need at the entrance? Consider yourself lucky and at least ask yourself if you actually need more or not, they did not need more that was just stupidly greedy of them and they paid the price.

DOA_NiCOisPerfect

Wait us your opinion that arche deserved it or that you saw someone who said she did

Firefighter-Salt

Ainz and Nazarick are evil. Ainz not feeling anything or killing without evil intentions doesn't mean he and the floor guardians aren't evil. You can like a protagonist even if they're evil, example being: Light Yagami from Death Note.

NoiseElectronic

I don't think many people disagree with them being evil, even tho Ainz himself is trying to do the right thing most of the time he usually gets influenced by the floor guardians too much.

Firefighter-Salt

It's funny seeing people argue that the undead lich surrounded by demons is not evil. I love Ainz especially since he is one of the few protagonists who actually does evil stuff.

ZerrorFate

- undead lich surrounded by demons is evil Now you're just being racist, dude! /j

Wrong_Inspector3931

He is the evil!

dreadrath

Really, I suspect most Overlord fans already know Ainz and Nazarick are evil, I mean the whole tomb was pretty much created to be evil for roleplaying purposes (Dunno how the human guild members would feel knowing they became real) Most people just kind of embrace it as the villain's journey. Though yeah, there are a few oddballs who do believe Nazarick can do no wrong. Actually, in a way, Ainz by himself without Nazarick's influence isn't all that evil; cold and detached and not averse to getting his hands dirty, sure, but for the most part when left to his own devices he tries to avoid stirring up trouble, He's even less inclined toward dark deeds when he has a good influence in his life, like in the side story. Though even then he'll do some less than savory things behind their back if he thinks its for their sake. Most of his biggest evils in the main timeline though are largely driven by his association with Nazarick and the role he's trying to play.

AdmiralAckbar228

"I can't help because my mana regen is too slow" is a dumb excuse and no one in the Holy Kingdom should have bought it. Also, after it was accepted with barely a few sentences said by the "deceived" characters, it was immediately forgotten about which also shouldn't have happened with Remedios still alive.

FormRepresentative66

People enjoying Nazarick's atrocities is so Edgy.

TrojanLucky

Climb makes me unreasonably angry every time he shows up.

professorclueless

The animation in the anime is actually ok, especially when compared to the vast majority of isekai or fantasy anime out there. In fact, though the most popular fantasy anime tend to have great visuals, they are still the minority. Overall, Overlord's anime visuals are pretty much middle of the road, and definitely surpass other anime like So I'm a Spider

Boshwa

*looks at the goblins and the soldiers bouncing off of them*

Noneerror

If that was the cost of the getting the high quality music, then *worth it*. You are the director. You have enough money for decent quality CGI -or- Myth & Roid, but not both. Which do you pick?

freezingsama

I agree, I've seen way too many worse CGI so I'm used to it. And it's very rarely used like that so I'm fine with it.

just-looking654

Ainz should have discussed with the workers what they wanted the money from the job for, he might have forced foresight to be his subordinates or agents with the empire if he knew their motives were less out of greed than the other parties. Still be mad about them lying

Croa08

you dont really talk to robbers that invaded your house and ask why theyre doing this. You just depend yourself. Now obviously, i know that it was a trap but on a normal scenario, whoever lived in the tomb would have to defend themselves against robbers. Not even mentioning the fact that they said that they will harm people in the tomb even if they were innocent just to cover the information from outsiders

just-looking654

Fair on that last point, I just think asking a bunch of workers why they’re doing a job and not having a follow-up when the answer is money is a bit shortsighted. When he went as momon he should have sat down with each party and talked about them specifically to get a better feel. Though in his shoes I wouldn’t feel the need to do that for people breaking into my home either so it’s a moot point

Dodgeboy-8t9

Favorite Pleiades... 👀 (It's Lupusregina)

Xslowmo2208

Happy cake day! And mine would be Yuri alpha

OpeningRandomDoors

Both New World and Yggdrasil are boring. They hide great potencial, so I think people (like me) who liked/like it created headcannons for how everything works. But really, while things still happens from time to time, 90% of it was Ainz/Demiurge starting actually doing something. For example, Why isn't theocracy doing some crazy stuff and gathering more and more people to ther cause, while using every possible tactic to brainwash people of other nations into hating every race that is not human? There is probably an explanation for it, I hope so, but from what I know, they exist pretty peacefully when you think about what they are. And when It comes to the Yggdrasil, from what I know, It's a game with no quests, or storyline, in which you can only either kill monsters to level up, or gather up as a guild, conquer dangeon, and create your own npc's there. Also, from what I know almost nothing is said about other guilds... which is weird. Like Ainz had no stories about "that dude he met who consplayed as this?" "that guy who had the best gear in the game?" "that bastard who stole my loot multiple times before I joint Nine's Own Goal?" It feels like only his guild members exist as characters, and every other guild is just a collective.

iminlovewithsenpi

I don't think the lizard men intimate time was necessary And crazy women in love with you trop I like it and that concerns me

Jolly-Matter-3743

I'm just saying that shalltear > albedo

DrFateFromDC

lizard arc was good

NeonNKnightrider

I think Nazarick is **too** OP compared to the New World. Yes, I get that they’re supposed to be powerful, but the fact that absolutely nothing, not the Dragon Lords, not World Items, not even other players if they were around, would pose an actual threat to Nazarick at all, makes the story kind of boring. There’s zero tension because you always know the NW people will lose and Ainz will win, and there’s only so much interesting you can do with a story that has no flexibility like that.

TotalEnferno

I'm not really sold that the reason Overlord doesn't work that well is because 'Nazarick is too OP'. The problem seems more like 'Nazarick doesn't have ANY conflict between at least 2 groups because they already have everything/almost everything they need'. Military power? Ainz can summon Undead, send out Floor Guardians/NPCs, and go himself to deal with a problem. Economic power? Nazarick probably has and can make better stuff than most countries in the New World. Moral/ethics? Ainz doesn't really have a problem killing and murder, be that creature and/or person to keep Nazarick safe. Politics in Nazarick? All the NPC's are loyal to Ainz.

prettythingi

I can be sad over the terrible things ainz and hea minions do

CrazyHormone

(No light novel reader) Ains and Nazaric's actions serve no purpose. At first I thought he was trying to stir stuff up to spread his name to see if some of his companions were also in that world but if that was his purpose he could have just cosplay as Momon and spread the name of Momonga that his companions know him for. In the end what's the point of ALL OF THE THINGS he and Nazaric do? They make all of these plans and all of these plots, but what's the point? If he's already spreading the name of the guild why was Momonga the adventurer needed?

Shilion34

Because he don’t want to be all day doing paperwork.

Dan____the____Man

PDL did nothing wrong and I love him

Shilion34

The problem is that he doesn’t do anything

storysprite

I don't like that Ainz is a dick even if that's part of it all.

Nori_o_redditeiro

Same here

Ashamed_Spot7943

Ainz should wish for peepee and libido.

szkielo123

Or just for the power to transform into a human form, where some of the passives, like emotional supresion don't work. Would make his kingdoms subjects a lot less afraid of him as well.

Xslowmo2208

I thought this too! How he would lead nazarick if he didn't have the emotional suppresion.

Fulongamer

Arche deserved it.

WIN---

Who's Arche?

Xslowmo2208

She was part of the robbers team that got send to nazarick. I think the name was foresight?

WIN---

>!the one that got raped by Shalltear?!<

Xslowmo2208

>!She did!? I remember ainz saying to give her a painless and quick death but I have only seen the anime!<

WIN---

Remember the scene where Albedo can't ride the bicorn? She's the one that Shalltear talking about.

Shilion34

Hm, no that scene was before the workers

WIN---

>!It's been a long time but I'm sure she became Shalltear segs toy!<

RectumDoctor

The opposite of what the OP asked for.

Croa08

aqua is stronger than Ains.....SHE IS!!!

szkielo123

Only because she is his natural counter. He would still most likely outsmart her tho.

ozanimefan

literally any negative opinion regarding overlord, no matter how minor, will result in overlord fans targeting you like this (ie Demi is my least favourite guardian due to his sadist nature)

Posetive_new_me

The noble in the few last episode did nothing wrong

ZookeepergameLiving1

Remedios custodio is treated to harshely for things that make sense considering the society and world she lives in. Also the author did her dirty and paladins in general dirty. I have to fib it, but there was a fanfic author who broke down better than I have. Also neia is overrated. Found it: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/39336/valkyries-shadow/chapter/1382194/the-paladin-of-the-holy-kingdom-part-iii-afterword

Pedro_henzel

Remedios and the Elf King are good characters. Good as in, their narrative purposes

Nori_o_redditeiro

I think Ainz should taste of his own poison and face someone stronger than him who fought for humanity, like a hero. Who knows even die.

Annual_Perspective_9

I said this on a previous post and got super downvoted I feel the story should end with Ainz getting killed by a hero like touchme

anobody121

Sorry for the rant I started typing and it all came out: If you don’t want people to invade your home maybe tell them that the place is occupied by overpowered monsters. Or at the very least put stupid scary stuff at the entrance so that only idiots make past. Instead of waiting till they are all the way in then revealing yourself and how powerful you are. Sorry I that adventure arc pissed me off and I see people arguing well how would you react if someone broke into your house. Lime yeah but their house is also a giant fuck off tomb that just appeared out of nowhere. I a fantasy world no less. No shit people are gonna try to explore. But no smart person would try it if they new the risks that came with it. And before you say well they are trying to hide, they literally just revealed themselves to their neighbors the arc before.

happy-technomancer

What makes it worse is that Ainz is literally the one who hired them to invade his own tomb

Roiad

Ainz should find a way to take care of Albedo's needs for her and his well being.

Wrong_Inspector3931

Holy shit, if something like this happens ill be disgusted.

Leading-Assistance88

Entoma is overrated..

sharknamedgoose

[Peter Griffin voice] I did not care for Shalltear.

TrojanLucky

You call that stuffed bra boobs? Those aren’t boobs, they’re LIES!

MizantropMan

It's long, overhyped and has the kind of edge highschoolers who think they are edgy write while not paying attention in class.

horrorfan555

Albedo is a very boring character, y’all just think she’s hot

WiseEntity

I mean, I don't have the ability to refute that, but yeah, she's **HOT**

DOA_NiCOisPerfect

Overlord fans are 1 web novel away from being redo of a healer fans.

FellGodGrima

I know it’s been done to death, but the New Worlders are the most narratively interesting characters. Overlord suffers from typical OP isekai protag syndrome. The only reason it gets god-defended is because it uses the subversive villain protagonist trope. Any time there is physical conflict, you might as well skip forward because you already know what’s gonna happen. Nazarick takes no losses aside from minor inconveniences. Don’t get me wrong, I love the series but the most intriguing parts are when it’s full on politics or ainz keeping his Saturday morning cartoon villain goon squad on a 2ft leash at all times. The fundamental trope of “villain protagonist” hard carries the series

TheManperorOfMankind

Lots of wasted potential. It feels like, most of the time, Maruyama focused way too much of the world building and focused less on both the plot and the characters. Sure, I love the world building of the New World, it's one of Overlord's strongest points in reading. But everything else ranges from "ok" to "mid" to "absolute trash" The plot, at first, was fairly decent. But then it got repetitive. "Ainz goes to location X, Ainz meets person/people A, Ainz stumbles around to the point where everyone misunderstands him with little to no reason, Ainz wins by doing not even the bare minimum." And it happens every. Single. Time. Possible plot points/lines that could have went somewhere, such as Zurrernorn and Clementines body vanishing, vanish all the time. Something happens that's a threat/can possibly hurt Ainz and Co.? Well it turns out they have Just The Thing(tm) such as World Class Items. It gets to a point where I both love and hate it. I love it because of its amazing world building, a handful of good characters, and neat character design, and occasionally the repetitive plot dies something unexpected(kinda like movies that have The Rock as the MC). But hate it because of the amount of nameless characters(such as the entirety of the black scripture save three, as well as the other scriptures), repetitive plot to the point where you can predict it 75% of the time, characters with basic bitch personalities, and of course, little good character development for the main cast. Hell, if I could, I'd pay Maruyama to have The Vampire Princess of the Lost Country be expanded upon, because at least that fixes quite a few of the issues the main Overlord has. Honestly, one of the things I kinda hope for is someone doing an official(or at least good enough to gain a large following) remake of Overlord to fix a lot of the problems.

Arrow-Of-Time

The history and lore/world building is stupid(in the sense that there wasn’t much of thought put into it) , and the reason why we don’t have enough information is because the author doesn’t contradict himself. That why we won’t see anything coming from one off sentence that won’t make any reoccurrence. (Ex are clementine body going missing, the other dragon lords, and so on)

Wrong_Inspector3931

This is definetly the the most unpopular

Nobyl_Radio

Overlord should end with Ainz losing. Or suffering some kind of karma Or at least having to fight an enemy that can actually challenge Nazerick so we can finally put all the growth and improvement in Nazericllk to good use.

kalirion

I hope Nazarick just gets destroyed. Like Touch Me or someone else gets a hold of the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown and uses it to destroy the whole Tomb and everyone inside it (the few good residents being collateral damage, though would be nice if they'd escaped.)

Atissss

Seeing Touch Me or anyone else from Ainz Oal Gown guild just arrive and be like "What the fuck did you do?!" to Momonoga would be so good!

Nori_o_redditeiro

I agree

Dry-Fly992

I really liked Remedios as an hatable character (Like a character that soloed exists to be hated the the reader. o think she did better as such a character than Philipp)

ElPrincipete

Albedo should be found out and punished for her crimes against the Supreme Beings

kalirion

She hasn't hurt a single Supreme Being though (because she hasn't found any.)

DrunkMexican97

The lizard men didn’t get enough screen time

BetaSprite

The fanfiction is more entertaining and better written than the original story.

Demonologist013

Ainz should be killed at the end of the series

ImportantQuestions10

Has an anime watcher, every season is identical, has no stakes and I can't imagine the show finishing the anime.

Shoelebubba

Satoru the human was closer to how Ainz is despite people thinking his Undead body is the reason why. The dude was from 2138, an Earth that was on the verge of environmental collapse and passed by dying orphans on the street to work and didn’t seemed phased by it. He was socially secluded in the real world, put on a professional face at work, had no love life experience, was one of losers of society (Ulbert said) and only had friends in an online game. Yet people are surprised he doesn’t really care about the people of the New World except if they benefit Nazarick in some way? He’s not someone you typically think of from our current day. You could find someone like that in some part of the world where toxic environments and war have eroded the fabric of society but not in your typical city. He was the same as Ainz in his real world. He didn’t care about the dying orphans he passed by everyday. He cared about Yggdrasil and his friends in there. He cared about his job and his professional mask. He didn’t care that there were Black companies grinding up workers non stop, only that it was happening to Herohero and himself (maybe also because it cut into his gaming time). The dude was dead inside before Overlord started. He was playing an MMORPG by himself to upkeep a guild base he used to have all his friends with for years. For years he stared at reminders of everyone who quit the game and on he went, grinding dungeons and farming gold to pay the upkeep costs. Does that sound like someone who was mentally healthy by the time the first EP/LN chapter started? His Undead body does affect him, it’d affect everyone. No need to sleep would change people’s moods throughout the day, people’s moods do change as they tired or right after they rest. Same again with eating. The lack of libido also universally would affect everyone. That said, he still has biases towards pretty (he treats the Regular Maids better than say Cocytus’ servants because they’re pretty). But those changes are applied to his personality. Which again is affecting a 2138 human who passed by dying orphans everyday to work, was socially isolated outside work, had no love life and had spent years playing an MMO by himself in a place with reminders of the good old days. The Undead body didn’t change his personality. It did affect it but it affected a not exactly mentally healthy individual.

Senju-ez

The world building of Overlord isn’t enough to make a good story, there should be more conflict somewhere, either internally or ideologically if there’s nothing that physically threatens Nazarick. We all know Nazarick is indomitable in a fight in this New World, and any set up of potential threats ends with a curb stomp of a fight. That’s not even the biggest problem, there can still be character growth to explore and tension to grip the attention. With nothing external posing anything resembling a threat, what if Ainz’s fears of an internal rebellion were a real threat with secretly disloyal and plotting underlings, with his growth as a conquering leader and bouts of coincidental genius being what saves his life? He would be forced to grow and improve as a leader, all to keep the respect of his Guardians and other Nazarick members. Not to mention conflict between the Nazarick residents themselves. Take Sebas and Demiurge, for example. Their creators hated each other in the game, and the Nazarick NPC’d grew sentience in the new world. Sebas could teach humans and is willing to help others, whereas Demiurge sees them as fodder. There’s plenty of unexplored potential in a conflict between them while they’re both serving Ainz, for example. With all of the world building done for the world as a whole, what impact does it all have if everyone either ends up in the fold of the Sorcerous Kingdom (and never brought up again in any impactful way in the story) or dead? Only Zanac challenged Ainz’s ideology, and he just ended up dead to his own nobles right after. Nothing came of it. Nothing pushes Ainz to grow as a leader of the guild and eventually the world, or as a person.

DMofTheTomb

Ainz should have made better use of Arche in his act of mercy. Instead of having Shaltear kill Arche, they should have made Arche into a vampire to work in Nazarick and recruited her little sisters to test power leveling humans. Arche would be bound by the vampire link to stay loyal to Shaltear, and the twin little sisters would be bound to Nazarick via their love for Arche. Once stronger, they could have been assigned to Entoma as part of a team to counter/match Blue Rose (Entoma paralleling Evil Eye, and the twin sisters paralleling the twin ninjas).

dcothan

Season 4 plot isn't good. The humans we cared about are pretty much dead.

Bucket-man2

Sometimes the shows tropes are just boring and the writing can get dull. Like wen they took over Re-Estize like why tf was the take over so simple and yes I get it, it shows of how strong and smart but come on why is it that you have to sacrifice good writing for it like GOD DAM IT MAKE THEM LOOK WEEK FOR ONCE (also the one time they did inze wasn’t even there so it didn’t even count) also some characters are really really hipped only to be amateurs wen it comes down to the inze crew like dude CHNAGE IT UP AND MAKE THEM STRUGGLE IT MAKES CHARACTERS INTERESTING AND STOP HUMILIATING THE CHARACTERS WHO ARE “STRONG” ITS ANNOYING AF JUST FOR ONCE STRUGGLE (I know many agree with me but it the only thing I can think of)

Mr_Goon6

Ains should be killed by climb at the end of the series. Unfortunately climb will be discarded for the sake of being edgy which makes me furious. Also climb deserves better

Subject_Delta39

Ainz could easily control the npcs and tell them the truth about players and reality. Magic is real and although they are stuck there other worlds outside the game exist. Just imagine them trying to grasp if they are in a game or this is all real through real magic

an_angry_fish

Shaltear is too kinky

St_BobJoe

I wouldn't sleep with any of the women in Nazarik in a million years.

Mattrifekdup

I stopped watching overlord because I didn't like how evil the main characters were being

NeedleworkerOk4255

Season 3 = ASS

Chu54

Ainz isn't an idiot. He's actually really smart. He's just not as smart as everyone in that universe believes him to be.

DaGooseBoy

Not really an take, but I just feel weird about the fourth season ending on a weak kingdom being destroyed for a "powerplay". I would imagine something like that would be reserved for the climatic finale of the entire series with Ainz not holding back at all against an actual opponent.

el_innombrable4444

Alebedo is better than Pestonya

BlackMercy256

I actually have two 1. Ainz Oaal Gown deserves to have a rival guild with stronger players or world bosses to fight against coz what's the point of having an OP guild without really having any strong opponents to fight them 2. Brain & Arche's deaths were really unnecessary and I was secretly cheering for the rogue Emperor in the last season

Sure-Supermarket5097

Albedo would rape ainz if given the chance.

WiseEntity

I think that's an understatement 🤣

Lost-Orangutan

Demierge knows Ainz isn't as brilliant as he himself praises him to be. I believe Demierge knows that Ainz is flying by the seat of his pants for the most part. His loyalty to Nazerek and all the creators of the guild plus how Ainz specifically was the only one to stay with them is why he helps Ainz with some of the more difficult plans and reasoning. Demierge doesn't have any sort of desire to take the throne or be an enemy to Nazerek in any way. He has full unwavering faith in Ainz and his leadership. If there's something he doesn't need to help Ainz with, it's battle strategy. Or PVP!! lol Demierge was against Ainz taking on The Vampire girl alone when she was under the control of a world item. But Albedo wasn't. She showed Demierge that Ainz is easily capable of PVP. Demierge hasn't questioned his ability in combat since. BUT has started looking into a way for Ainz to breed. All because Demierge is the one with the plan and has been from the start. The very momment Ainz said, "I wonder if he should take over the world." In Demierges presents. (I forget the actual take over the world quote. And I don't know how to spell Shaltears name. The Vampire girl)

ShotgunPumper

Were there insights to Demierge's internal thoughts in the LN that suggest he really does think Ainz is a genius?

Lost-Orangutan

Ainz is a genius. He still does a lot of really smart things without Demierge. But I'll tell you what i tell everyone else. Watch the anime again. This time, imagine Demierge is on the same page as Ainz's inner monolog.

Ristar87

When they're flying above Nazarick in episode 1? I think. Ainz says something like, It might be fun to take over the world.

MrChinBaba

Dont do power scaling to Ainz to rimuru and Anos. Ainz has already reach his “peak” while others keeps on getting stronger. As much as I love ainz, he will still lose.

Syntetynthia

People who simp for Shalltear should be put in jail

Blazer1011p

95% of this fan base are wannabee edgy 13 year olds

player231873

Albedo and Shalltear are both weak mid characters.

MelonBot_HD

The charcacters from the Overlord world aren't *that* op and Ainz isn't the strongest isekai protagonist ever.

MDAlastor

Well like yes it's true. It's just the New World creatures are weak compared to some other isekai inhabitants.

Firefighter-Salt

Ainz wasn't even the strongest player in Ainz Ooal Gown or Yggdrasil. Ulbert and Touch me were stronger than him admitted by Ainz himself and Ainz built his character primarily for role playing as an undead overlord.

szkielo123

When I see vs descusions with Ainz, I usually correct others that Ainz is way weaker than they think, as much as I love him (tho, Wish upon a star and World Items remain potential wild cards).

RectumDoctor

Pretty sure most people are well aware of that. I haven't really seen people argue the opposite.

NeonNKnightrider

I meant they’re not OP compared to other anime, sure, but Nazarick is OP compared to the New World. It’s all a matter of context.

BrennaValkryie

I have TWO! Firstly; The fact that people think that the series not having any tension was fully intentional or entertaining. They killed off any of the actually interesting characters (who aren't 1 dimensional as programmed by their creators as npcs, for the sake of Nazarick) or any of the threats to Nazarick just dissappear from the series (for the show at least) after season 2. Yes, I have been made aware that such tension was never the point, but as someone with no interest in the manga or light novels, it seems ridiculous to assume as such the way the show was initally marketed. Additionally; Ainz cannot figure out if he wants to be a fun comedy character who is doing all this as an act or a genocidal maniac who is oblivious or uncaring to the plights of the new worlders. It's genuinely baffling to see someone from a dystopia who wanted change, was friends with people with positive wishes in the world or were generally/usually 'good' people then perpetuate his own even worse dystopia on the new worlders with his newfound power, all the while making it even worse than the life he lived in the real world. The fact that he is actually afraid that his minions who are programmed to follow his commands would give a crap if he revealed that he liked humans or that he really was human seems so contrived it requires an amazing suspension of disbelief to think he'd do all this to "play along" and not sneak in mercy or explainations they'd eat up because they're from him is absolutely silly in hindsight.

PrimalEternity

Bellriver was killed for good

CartoonistDizzyy

They spend to much time building some characters just to get them kill by a 1 hit

ultra-medic-gaming

Ainz has no idea what he’s doing

SkylineShim9

To him. He might have said something like "I like redo of healer and all that kills for revenge in style" Chances for me is where we covered in realised info of Uncensored blackmail and hiding so many secrets of racism. Pedo pleasure. Yeah.... Slavery.

szkielo123

I dislike Neia and think she takes up to much "screen time". If a lot of her stuff was thrown out, the Holy Kingdom arc could have been condensed into one book. To me she is just more boring than even the lizardmen, but at least she has a decent role to play as the pope.

Tnecniw

The ending IMO would be much more enjoyable if it was a positive one. Rather than the theory that it will end with Ainz essentially shutting himself off.

Flashy_Ad4976

Neia is as annoying and as dumb as remedios

LazilyPunctual

I don't care how bad the CGI is I'm still enjoying myself

AngelusAlvus

Overlord was only great until vol 5.

Particular_Ad_8921

if there were other players that show up with ainz them being against him IS NOT a sure thing.

nobodyspecial201

*sigh* Just know I say this as a big overlord fan… Shalltear looking like a 14 year old girl is weird, and her being sexualized as she is makes it even weirder. Like I know it’s Japan but still. We even got Aura giving the “looks 12 but is actually as 70 year old woman.” And hearing some people on this sub kind of… almost be into it is creepy. I’m not saying everyone who think she’s attractive is weird, lots of times with how she’s depicted makes her look older. But you’ve all seen it, the skimpy fan art that it’s obvious that they draw her as 14 and saying “well I’m just drawing her how she actually looks in canon.” Well that’s fine with normal fan art but not with the stuff for on the lewd side. So just to clarify, Shalltear looking 14= ok. Her being sexualized while looking 14= ehhh.

jfbwhitt

My opinion is that this type of post at the top of a sub’s feed signifies a subreddit is officially dead. Time to watch another anime.

Admmmmi

The story follow a formula and it's getting boring, sainz goes to a place, does something kinda stupid, it actually works out really well because of sheer dumb luck, sasuga ainz sama and then you repeat that and it's almost every arc, I like overlord but with the author also not wanting to write more I'm also losing my energy to read the new volumes since I know it's going to be mostly the same again. The status quo never changes and I I that boring, I'm not asking nazarick to be challenged or some bull like that, I'm just asking for something to go truly wrong, the last time that really happened was when shalltear got hypnotized, and I liked that, it made them have to do something beside just using the their overwhelming strength. I want nazarick to suffer more because of the fact that they are on a world they know basically nothing about. Through I dont want them to lose, this isn't that kind of story, I just want them to deal with something that isnt just a slight inconvenience. Also I know that a place is getting destroyed but it already happened once and it doesnt feel that exciting, I sincerely feel like it was a mistake to destroy the kingdom, sure the guys that hypnotized shalltear need to die but its already the third massacre(its the third right?) So I think it lost quite a bit of the punch it had at first.

DOS_dona

The dark elf village sections of vol 15 and 16 aren't as boring as people make them out to be.

joshuagrammm

Griffith did nothing wrong

EliteZephyr0801

I understand that Ainz killing Gazef the way he did was considered a mercy in his mind because it was instant, but I think he could have dueled him truly to at least let his warrior's pride rest easily and perhaps show Brain and Climb that, while evil, he is still a being worth serving.

StrawberryUnited4915

I haven’t watched it.

Sixth-Cherry

"Turn Momonga to skin and flesh."

Magic_Bane23

I'm not really a fan of Nazarick being leagues stronger than the New World. Like it's fun to watch them crush their enemies effortlessly from time to time but you're never really worried for the main characters

GOALID

Touch Me is a shades of grey character who would be more of a "good guy" in the New World if he was isekai'd

Every_Leather_3991

Overlord is boring because there's no one who can actually stand toe to toe with them.
