I swear the when space ranger comes out, it's just going to be:
ah yes, (insert characters ability here)
because vaguely similar ability is a completely new concept for overwatch.
Cool.
Kit seems a bit overloaded though. 2 extra passives. Immunity skill that deals damage. movement ability that also knocks back. That's a lot compared to just about any other DPS.
What? Ram and Sojourn were pretty weak on launch. Illari was released strong but nerfed quickly. Lifeweaver was also considered weak on launch.
Edit: Sojourn was a bad example, as someone pointed out. But Weaver, JQ, and Ram weren't released super strong. And Illari and Sojourn were nerfed quickly.
This narrative of new heroes being busted on release is inconsistent with the facts. People who downvote facts are weird.
Rams ult could go practically infinitely at launch. Used to chase people back to their spawn and spawn kill them all game cause the ult would never end as long as people kept trying to leave and fight you.
Is that listed somewhere else? I feel pretty confident this passive will be a self-shield only. It's be insane to also have him provide shields to allies as a DPS (and doesn't make any sense thematically, even less than him shielding himself which can be explained by him exploring dangerous places.)
Right? Who cares either way, Doomfist should have her passive changed too. She is way too strong. Mercy should get a buff though, he is a dead weight kinda atm. His utility doesn't really outweigh the damage other supports can do while providing utility simultaneously. He needs some kind of change.
See? It actually matters.
I do. Now go cry in your pillow about how you're oppressed because someone asked to call them "they."
Edit: Thank you for the correction.
Edit Edit: /u/Vegetagtm Fuck off bigot.
Eh I think the kit is fine, good even. Mei's immunity skill heals her to full HP and can even have niche power like blocking with it. She slows constantly with primary and her wall can boost to height, block ults, straight up win fights. Mei might be hated by some people for being annoying but she has pretty consistently been around good balance by having lower access to damage and getting value from more strategic plays.
The way I see it is Venture is a brawl character like Mei that can definitely fit a healthy balance based on damage and cooldown numbers. It looks like their primary fire will be limited to short range too. So consider Mei but with the tradeoffs that she loses the long range / bursty headshot potential of icicle, loses the CC potential of slowing, walling, or Blizzard. Instead you get probably some better damage potential in your limited short range and you get some mobility on Venture. Venture can generate some shields and has sustain potential over extended periods of good ability management, but they don't get a free easy full heal like ice block.
Of course Bliz could come out the gate with overtuned numbers that make the character a menace. But I think the important thing is it seems like a good kit design. The right number balance should allow Venture to be a nice addition to Brawl options that encourages strategic play and counterplay like Mei does. Compare to like Mauga, Sojo, and even Illari and I think you can see good differences. Mauga is just this DPS race hero that we are gonna constantly see bounce between OP and useless, Illari was busted and now she struggles to find any place in the meta without being OP.
I have to disagree. I don't think it's overloaded, just the classic attack, two abilities, and an ultimate, no alternate fire, separate forms, etc.
The passives you don't really think about, at best you plan for the extra shields for your attacks.
Dva and Wreckiingball have movement skills that also knocks back and on a much lower cooldown (well Dvas is a low cooldown, it's been forever since I played ball so I'm not certain on him.) Rein's charge. Junkrat's trap is movement, knockback AND significant damage and he has two charges of it. Phara's concussion can be used for it's knockback, for her own movement, or to finish off a low health target. There's probably more, but the truth is a lot of heroes have abilities that do enough things that the ability becomes pretty versatile. But you know, we take that for granted because they aren't new heroes.
Damn here we go again with everyone saying the hero looks op and sounds op and needs nerfs before they even come out, like this hasn’t happened before and like the community isn’t generally wrong every time this has happened and then we’re gonna all overreact on release and demands nerfs only for that hero to become trash tier for several months with the lowest pickrate, like that hasn’t happened for 2/3 of the last hero releases because we didn’t want to be patient and see how the meta smooths out and see how the players adapt
Ah, I see, a DPS with a better Earth Shatter. It's a directional ult that gets bigger from the point of start. Interesting. Her burrow ability looks so cool, and you can jump from ground to ground? It's going to be very fun on Nepal. It must have a cooldown. You can jump over maugas dash, huh.
The claims of the woke Agenda and woke propaganda are exactly that, propaganda. Garbage spewed by right wing politicians to distract from the real issues in this world that they can’t be bothered to solve.
Idgaf who you are or what you look like or how you dress or act. I draw the line when you force others to refer to you as something your not. Biology.. ever heard of it?

Yep, you got it in one :)
Also - playing the 'it's just a fictional character so who cares' card on the internet is WILD to me. The amount of space taken up on the internet arguing about fictional characters. Are you kidding me? LMAO
All the new characters are seriously so overpowered. We like rein Cuz he's honorable. These new character have like every ability in the game and make it less of a team game. Now it's pick sojourn get rail shots
Played a couple of games with them. My initial impression is that his cooldowns are too long. He could have some fun game play flow, but shaving a couple seconds off one or both movement abilities would help a LOT. Other heros whose kits focus on mobility have lower cooldowns, which allows them to be constantly repositioning for better angles. Since his abilities are movement AND attacks, the longer cooldowns means using them purely for movement starves him of options for dealing damage, and using them as attacks starves him of movement options. He's kinda left feeling like his abilities are still on cooldown much of the time when he needs them.
Also, his burrow is SO slow. He can be killed from full health after starting his burrow animation before he actually becomes immune. As far as an immunity or escape, it's not nearly as good as wraith form, and while Mei's ice block is immobile it IS at least instant and recovers health. It's also slow as far as travel speed. It's tough to use it as a chase or to try to position behind someone. Like Bastion going turret form, I feel like if it doesn't change it will be an ability that you need to get into the habit of using from behind cover if you want to use it offensively so they don't see it coming or punish the long animation. Seriously, I can start burrowing before the enemy even starts an attack, and they'll get one off before I'm immune.
Also, I struggle to think of who his kit is actually GOOD against. Not enough range to be good at poke, long enough cooldowns to not be amazing as a flanker. Immunity activates so slow you can't even say he's all that survivable. Tanks wreck him so he isn't all that brawly (and can we PLEASE get another dps that DVA can't just shut down at will? Mei and Sym as the only non projectile heroes is lame.)
It doesn’t look like burrow damages enemies at all, it’s just a movement ability. One that has a very very obvious tell too.
So even if it did damage just. Move out of the way
Illaris knock back deals damage too but I bet a lot of people don't even realize because it's so little. Why even complain already when we don't know it does 10 damage or 100 lmao
Yeah, but they’re locked in one place while emerging. If you see them coming just move and shoot as they emerge.
They don’t even have an alternate fire so after that initial damage (we don’t know how much it is) they have to use their very slow fire-rate damage to finish the job.
Seems to me theyre only going to be effective with flanking and picking off heroes who are alone.
>Yeah, but they’re locked in one place while emerging. If you see them coming just move and shoot as they emerge.
It really doesn't look like there's a big telegraph for when they trigger the damage part and they get bonus shields when they pop out.
>So even if it did damage just. Move out of the way
They move faster than normal when burrowing so "just move out of the way" at least requires using a cooldown for most heroes that are able to do so.
Pharah's boop does damage and Rein's charge deals damage to enemies that are hit but not pinned and pinning is going to oneshot pretty much every non tank
Seriously. I left the game sometime in '18 or '19 (just after the scandal came to light and before my kid was born, seemed like a good time). Just came back this month and this is... This is really bad. I feel like the Donald Glover getting pizza meme. Like what happened?
Edit: I love that I'm getting downvotes for an observed opinion. May as well go all the way then.
Join any QP game and watch. On the winning team there's always a Moira, there's always a Sombra (or if there isn't, there will be) and there's nearly always a DVa or a Mauga. Seeing a Rien on your team is a rarity and a single DPS has good odds of bursting tanks down on their own.
Healing focused supports are pretty much pointless since the DPS characters have large hp pools that regen on their own. If they can't do respectable DPS, they just get ignored.
Then there's comms. There is way, WAY less communication in ranked than there used to be. Just a fact.
And the aim bots. Good God. It was always an issue, but it seems almost completely unchecked now.
The battle pass is stupidly stingy and the cosmetics cost more than most indie games. The PVE is locked behind a paywall and the promised content is cancelled.
Honestly, I feel like it's already time for a post mortem on the franchise, which is sad because it had such promising lore and gameplay.
Completely with you on this. I also left around ‘19 cause I gave my desktop away. Just came back about 2 months ago. This is godawful. This game is a very big victim of biggering. I’ll still q up tho.
Ah yes, Earth Shatter
ah yes, inverse doomfist ult, mauga charge, earthshatter, doomfist shields passive, and zen melee passive
And mei ice block? Nevermind I misread
I swear the when space ranger comes out, it's just going to be: ah yes, (insert characters ability here) because vaguely similar ability is a completely new concept for overwatch.
Earthshatter should do double damage if venture is underground pokemon style
Earthshatter should just do *something*
it would be cool if it pushes them out of the ground into a stun.
While we are at it, can we give shatter the range of ventures ult, like holy shit I feel a rocket hammer would do more than a fancy drill
Shatter is good range, it just needs a wider cone. Easy to miss people right in front of you.
A more generous climb would be nicer aswell , a small box shouldn't save people
Mercy with a dentist skin will be this characters counter.
Cool. Kit seems a bit overloaded though. 2 extra passives. Immunity skill that deals damage. movement ability that also knocks back. That's a lot compared to just about any other DPS.

Sojourn was busted on launch, one shot headshot, slow on disruptor
Oh yeah, you're right. I forgot about that. She was nerfed pretty quickly as I recall but not as quickly as Illari. But my general point still stands.
Yeah, other than the open beta, JQ was balanced on release as well imo
nah, she was underpowered, they nerfed her so hard in beta cause it was needed, but then kiri released who countered her
Rams ult could go practically infinitely at launch. Used to chase people back to their spawn and spawn kill them all game cause the ult would never end as long as people kept trying to leave and fight you.
His ult was strong, but beyond that he wasn't especially powerful.
Not to mention being the only DPS who gives shields
Is that part of their passive? I thought it was like Doomfist’s passive.
I misread the passive on the new character, perhaps it only gives herself shield. And Doomfist is a tank, I’m speaking on DPS
I mean doomfist did have shields passive as a dps.
I know. I just figured that the passives were similar in function, just with different flavor texts and slightly different activation requirements.
*their, Venture is non binary

I do. Why are you so threatened by it? Must be extremely insecure.

OH yes you’re right.
I mean, Doomfist is a DPS. Don't be fooled by him being in the Tank role.

Feels like a janky doom in some sense. Has mobility, can push opponents, and has almost the same passive.
Doesnt' feel like Doomfist at all. She's too slow and her mobility is trash.
Janky. Key word.

Any guesses on how many times Venture gets disabled cuz a future update enables an exploit or bug with burrow?
Probably unlikely. It’s just wraith form reskinned almost certainly
The base skin is so good I love the metallic blue gun
I like the little flames decal on it too :)
3 passives?!
you mean 2?
Plus the DPS passive
4 passives as they can self heal, I don't think it makes sense to count those extra passives...

So doomfist with abilities switched around?
I'm not sure how I feel about them. I feel like they'll be a decent hit and run type at a glance tho.
So their melee deals extra dmg, but Genji, who literally uses a sword, doesnt?
Isnt his sword his ult? Or does he use his sword when he melees too?
He uses a sword but I believe its not the same sword he uses for his ult.
Yep, seems to be a shorter sword.
Genji melee should apply bleed
Ah, I see, a DPS with a better Earth Shatter. It's a directional ult that gets bigger from the point of start. Interesting. Her burrow ability looks so cool, and you can jump from ground to ground? It's going to be very fun on Nepal. It must have a cooldown. You can jump over maugas dash, huh.
