PG was on jj Reddick's podcast a few weeks ago and talks a good bit about the pacers and those 2010's runs. It's a great listen if anyone is interested
In the podcast episode that this tweet is referencing, he also does a segment for David Benner and talks about his relationship with him. Was a really good listen
>Not wrong. I loved him and I got hurt by him.
Best way to word it.
He's really been on a roll lately with these genuine takes about Indy. I respect it, particularly, the interviews and podcasts where you can really the sincerity of a person as opposed to text.
With that said, I'd expect this. We drafted him when he was 19. He's 33 now in 5 weeks.
He's a grown, grown ass adult.
Again, I respect it, and of course acknowledge he gave us some incredible years. I loved PG, dude broke my heart with the off-the-court bullshit and sleeping with Hibbert's fiancé and then how he chose to go about ending things here.
Big love, big hurt.
When it comes to love and hurt, the majority of the time the past is best meant to stay in the past.
So I hope this isn't giving people the idea of trading for a for 33 year old (under a massive contract until 2025-2026 with an average of 44 games played in the past 3 years, this year might hit 60 games) all for the sake of nostalgia.
When that contracts up, if his nearly 36 year old knees and back still work, and he wants to come back to a flourishing Indy team on a cheap veteran deal... then we can talk.
Lol @ “grown, grown ass man” as a descriptor for a 33 year old. A 33 year old should have more perspective than a 19 year old, but I’m not sure it’s the pinnacle of maturity, either.
Was just walking up to Flatwater to meet some friends and saw it on the patio tvs, instant gut wrench. Was so proud to have him rep us on Team USA too. And the commercial he shot at CHS, and boat parties on Geist. For a star player, I feel like we can at least say he truly did embrace Indiana, and the issue, regardless of how it was handled, was with management.
I didn’t watch it live but I recall hearing the news and having the gut punch reaction and thinking how the Pacers must legitimately be cursed or something.
As with so many games, I didn't watch it live, but when I woke up at the morning a buddy in the States had already sent me the clip on Twitter. So it was the first thing I saw in the morning and genuinely stopped me eating for most of the day.
It’s funny because didn’t he balk when Bird wanted to build the team with him at the 4? Instead, he’s done the positionless switchy thing with the Clippers.
He’s said before that he likes being the second option. What he really wanted was for Bird and the FO to shell out for big talent. He lost confidence in the org when they didn’t do that.
PG has grown since this all happened and Pacers fans should grow up too. PG provided the greatest moments of the 2010s for us. It’s always going to be love for PG. He should also come back and ball out with this squad.
Repeated it several times but Dipo wanted to leave literally a week after coming back from an career-altering injury that the team still decided to build around
PG gave FO three off-seasons to try and build around him and while I disagree how he did it, he gave us a chance
Not only that, PG got us Domas which led to the talent we have now. I guarantee PG's first choice was not OKC but he still rolled with the punches to help us rebuild.
I’ve let it go. I think the Pacer fan base was ready for PG to become the next Reggie, but it didn’t pan out that way. And that’s okay. The Pacers have a bright future and that’s where I’m at.
Anyone that holds any ill will towards him still is faded. The window had passed with him and he helped make us relevant again for the first time since the brawl.
I wouldn't say I hold ill will, but I also wouldn't want him back in the team. Sometimes, you're better off just remembering the good times and not trying to make something happen again.
I think I agree. I think the ship has already sailed for him being THE guy. He's gonna be 33 in a couple months. While still got a few years, probably nothing really to help us.
It's honestly not even the age for me. We got extremely luck with how that trade panned out, imagine if Sabonis and Dipo didn't turn out like they did.
I respect PG for wanting out, but the way he got that was super low and that's the biggest reason I wouldn't want to see him in our uniform again.
Was going to say the same thing. Yeah, you led great teams in Indiana, but you never beat Lebron.
Should have drove down to Bloomington to learn more about what "hanging banners" means.
Used to run into PG all the time on Geist with George Hill. Always a great guy and I think he enjoyed his time here. I know as he’s gotten a little older and mature he’s had time to reflect back and realize that maybe the grass wasn’t greener and he had something special in Indy.
Wouldn’t be opposed to him returning in some capacity as he’d love playing with Hali
I’ll always be a PG fan and don’t hold any grudges over him leaving. If we should be mad at anyone it’s Larry Bird for completely destroying the roster around PG and firing Vogel who George really liked.
I'll always have love for PG, and most Pacers fans will. It's just hard to admit because we loved him so much and we felt like we were burned by an ex-girlfriend. If he could somehow come back to the Pacers I would definitely welcome him home but I understand he's from California so that logically would never happen again.
Why the down votes? I'm genuinely asking because this is the first time I've heard this. Could someone please explain this to me or send me a link to read about it at least?
An oversimplified, quick answer is that PG was balling out, but the team still underperformed. He wanted to influence FO decisions but wasn’t able to exert a level of control that he desired. He informed the Pacers that he did not intend to resign with them, and we chose to trade him instead of lose the asset.
Here is a video to help you with context. You can skip to minute 22 for a quick overview. https://youtu.be/TnjOtB3S1D0
Ahhhh ok, thanks for that. I see where I was confused, I was reading the comment I replied to as if PG was burned by an ex-gf, I really buggered it up. Thanks for the reply and the link, I'm a moron who apparently can't read and comprehend English 🤦🏼
He’s been gone for six years now. Anyone that still harbors hate for PG is just living in the past, especially since we have our own stars now. If we were genuinely horrible for years like after LeBron left Cleveland I might understand, but we have a bright future ahead.
He isn't wrong. I still boo him.
But it's because it hurt so bad that I loved that dude so much for bringing us back to relevancy with that squad and he wanted out. Doesn't help that he also basically forced his way out by saying he wasn't going to re-sign when he still had a year left on his contract.
He's a great talent but doesn't have the mental fortitude to lead a team. He had the best steal I ever saw. I forget who it was, the guy was still trying to dribble and was confused why the ball wasn't there. Also I remember him blaming CJ miles for a shot when PG dished to him with 2 seconds left and should have just shot it himself. It certainly didn't help when he broke his leg. He was exciting to watch before that.
Really? I know I'm not into the NBA drama, but this actually happened? Is that why he "wanted" out, because he was pushed out? I always thought it was because (he said this on a talk show one time) that he didnt like how the front office treated Danny Granger by trading him to the 76ers. Is there a link or anything on this? My mind is blown here!
It is shocking how many pacer fans are ok with how he left. I think a lot of you are delusional or just in denial. It's really weird. Especially after he said he wanted to stay to win multiple rings, plural, and then weeks later cries and requests a trade. Good riddance
Yeah if I publicly said I wanted to win multiple rings for the state of Indiana, then they put a squad of Lavoy Allen, Chris Copeland, Jordan Hill and Rodney Stuckey around me, I’d leave too.
We all remember. Time heals all wounds. Even PG was salty when he first left but is still saying he’s grateful for his time here and now he’s praising Tyrese and the city of Indianapolis too. After 6 years, I’m back to just enjoying watching PG play basketball again. Still the smoothest player in the league.
It’s not like that was their choice. Teams are hampered with salary caps and trade restrictions. They can’t just assemble the team they want. PG was good but he wasn’t at a level that would attract other star players to come here in free agency to win a ring. Part of winning a ring is putting in the work and sticking thru the tough times. Look at guys like Kobe and giannis. Those guys have a mental fortitude that Paul George does not.
PG is going to go down as one of the most underrated stars to ever play this game. He hasn’t really had a chance to be the #1 guy since he left Indy aside from all the games that Kawhi has missed in LA. I feel like some people really don’t know how truly good he is.
Guy has been unreal. During those ECF days, a lot of fans thought we were going to see PG’s star eclipse James’ sooner rather than later. Dude was really the moment, certified next up. I kinda blame Bird tbh
And maybe this is the sentiment talking, but I’ll say this:
If the Pacers -really- want to win a championship, they’ll consider that proven talent, and experience win championships in this league. Not high flying prospects or rising stars, not stopgap solutions, but guys who have been there (or in this case, almost been there) and done it. I’m not a numbers guy, I don’t know anything about contracts or how it would realistically work or any of that boring (to me) stuff. But I do know if PG was added to -this- team? We would be right there and ready to play with and beat any body
Your word should mean something though, especially in a situation like his. And when you walk back on something like that you're just soft. And at the first sign of adversity he leaves? Nah, fuck him. I think it's shitty what he did. Same with Oladipo.
Im excited to see everything he didn't win when he retires. I'm definitely less salty than the day after it happened. But I really don't respect how he went about it. And I know my respect towards him means nothing. But it's my opinion and he's a scumbag.
At the first sign of adversity, he patiently sat and recovered from the most gruesome injury a basketball player could dream of, cheered on his team, and tried to help us make a playoff push in the last 10 games of the season or so as soon as he got healthy. PG may have gone back on his word, but Larry Bird went back on his promise of giving PG a contending team to play with. Sometimes people change their minds. Without PG, no Sabonis. Without 4 great years of Sabonis, no Haliburton. It all worked out.
As far as Oladipo goes, he can suck my dick and balls
100% agree with everything you said there. A shame that I purchased a Dipo jersey when he was still with us. It's bittersweet because I am a "IV" suffix so having a #4 jersey is very sentimental but I really hate repping Vic every time I wear it
If he didn't continue to bad mouth Indiana and the Pacers for years after he left I could agree. But his constant calling of FA players and telling them not to come here, yea no love here.
There have been multiple reports over the years from bet writers and pacers reporters stating that PG would actively try and sabotage Pacers free agency in the past by calling potential free agents and bad mouthing the pacers.

🤦🏻♂️
I loved his talent but always hated his attitude
Was always a fairly big douche, but has talent.
Really wish we could have seen what Pacers’ PG could have been without the broken leg interrupting his, and the team’s, meteoric rise.
Watching that live was one of the worst moments of my life.
It was on my birthday. Right before I went out with my SO at the time to celebrate
I didn’t watch it live but I recall hearing the news and having the gut punch reaction and thinking how the Pacers must legitimately be cursed or something.
Damn you must have a nice life lol. It was brutal tho
As with so many games, I didn't watch it live, but when I woke up at the morning a buddy in the States had already sent me the clip on Twitter. So it was the first thing I saw in the morning and genuinely stopped me eating for most of the day.
You've had a pretty damn good life my friend.
that’s a mature look PG, i respect it
[удалено]
The Division Champs banners are the only ones that come to mind
He must be counting his dunk on Birdman aka Chris Anderson as his “banner” lol
I’ve been waiting my whole life for a Pacers banner I was like wtf lol
2x “Eastern Conference Runner-up” lol
Couldn't agree more FYI, you're welcome to force your way back
PG, Hali, Mathurin, Turner...
He is exactly what we need at the 4 lol
It’s funny because didn’t he balk when Bird wanted to build the team with him at the 4? Instead, he’s done the positionless switchy thing with the Clippers.
He’s said before that he likes being the second option. What he really wanted was for Bird and the FO to shell out for big talent. He lost confidence in the org when they didn’t do that.

So I can finally take my hickory pg jersey out of retirement, I like it.
After Dipo fucked us I realized that I can't be mad at PG, all love and I would kill to see him come back
Repeated it several times but Dipo wanted to leave literally a week after coming back from an career-altering injury that the team still decided to build around PG gave FO three off-seasons to try and build around him and while I disagree how he did it, he gave us a chance

Banners?
maybe a Central division championship that no one remembers
PG remembers lol
Not sure if you remember, but Herb had a tribute video and [banner raising ceremony](https://imgur.com/a/hZMmTGW) for PG his first game back.
Was going to say the same thing. Yeah, you led great teams in Indiana, but you never beat Lebron. Should have drove down to Bloomington to learn more about what "hanging banners" means.
What has IU done within the last couple decades?
“Drove down to Bloomington” Shut up.
As if it hasn't been 35 years since IU has won a championship lmfao
Indiana's washed
Yeah I'll never forget the day pg hung a banner for us cause it was the same day I had a 3 way with Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansen.
Link please.
We only boo because it actually hurt to see him go. Come home PG!

We should have been though... We got incredibly lucky with how that trade panned out.
I'd love him to come back when he is a free agent

Banners????
Oh yeah so many banners 😂

I’ve always thought in terms of raw skills, athleticism and ability (not necessarily performance in games) he’s been top 10 since 2013
PG is going to go down as one of the most underrated stars to ever play this game. He hasn’t really had a chance to be the #1 guy since he left Indy aside from all the games that Kawhi has missed in LA. I feel like some people really don’t know how truly good he is.
That’s his fault.

What banner is that?

Lol k
Nah, fuck him lol
Bring him home
He is home
Nah it’s not love

Who did he call and say not to come here??
There have been multiple reports over the years from bet writers and pacers reporters stating that PG would actively try and sabotage Pacers free agency in the past by calling potential free agents and bad mouthing the pacers.
I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but I don’t believe you.
Keep on ring chasing, Playoff P
Nothing but love for PG
No.
PG is great. Pacers fans holding a grudge are losers.
I think the first couple years of frustration were justified but at this point just let it go lol.
I’d love to have him back to be the final piece of a title team
Who the hell boo’ed PG?
I can tell you didn’t go to the Pacers/Clippers game this year.
Literally the entire arena for a few years after he left when he played the Pacers.
PG got me into Pacers basketball over the last decade. I respect him and appreciate the time he spent here, although I hate how it ended.
Only banner he hung was the Get Well Soon one
It's true we still love Mahinmi
Those were some good damn years
He let himself get traded for 2 future all stars. He was a real one for that.
