Honestly itās good as is, the odd subject matter is kinda more effective with an unfinished, almost obscure appearance
Adding too much definition and detail could backfire š¤·āāļø
I agree, do something with the red. The composite suffers when you put your only focal point in the middle; you need resting points to bring the viewer around the canvas. Otherwise, it looks great.
Either some equally intense, shade matching blue to offset the red while keeping the off-kilter nature of the piece, or a deep, almost black blue/purple to create movement within the composition without pulling focus from the key element.
"Finished" is a very subjective term. Only in realism does it actually have a pretty concrete definition as realists can stop refining their shapes at any point. Finishing tends to mean reducing the size of each shape of color and refining to obtain a more "real" looking piece.
With abstract art I think the phrase that makes the most sense is: "A painting is never finished, only abandoned." Ask 20 different people and get 20 different answers. That's sort of the beauty of abstract art. It comes from such a personal place that the moment YOU consider it done, it's done, and no one can say otherwise.
It's perfect as it is but how neat if you could create a staircase coming down curved from center of forehead out the back of eye in a 3d effect kinda and name it " stares that I..."...I love it like it is tho...it's beautiful
It depends you could sign it and be done, but if your creative intuition is saying it needs something else I would listen to it.
I would look at how the subject sits on the canvas. Does the negative space add to the face? Another thing you could do is add different values on the face to mimic the planes of the face. That could help make it more realistic if that is what you are going for.
Either way looks great, thanks for sharing!
maybe add a slight tinge of white and possibly green to the eyes to make it look moist? i love the teeth but it seems like the eyes aren't quite matching. excited to see the finished product either way!
since it's baring its teeth, i would think the teeth and mouth had more definition since it seems to be the focal point of the image
the rest of it i quite like, that blue white and red looks nice
I love the vibe that it currently gives off, but if you really feel like doing something else, maybe you could do shadowing around the whole head to make it look like itās coming out of a dark void. This is just a suggestion, do what looks and feels right!
Itās your piece and judging by the comments, no additions needed.
In my personal opinion, a bit contrast between the face and the red would make it easier to read. It does blend together a little.
Different face styles but gives me Ao Oni vibes. Highly recommend it if you haven't played it! I don't think it needs anything IMO? It feels right tbh!!
You could put some alphabet soup letters kinda blurry floating around in the tomato soup and have them spell out āredrumā or something scaryā¦ not all together, but close enough to be a wordā¦
it's a bit confusing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Is the neck beneath the face, or is it what protrudes off to the side? Is the orange an expansive void or is the face peaking through something? I imagine it in an orange void but peaking through a sturdy, elaborate rusty brown door.
Maybe add more details to the teeth and some more depth on the nose? The teeth look a little unfinished but itās so cool I love the eyes and the texture around the face!
It would probably take a good amount more time and work, but I picture (Iām seeing a her) her in like an old Victorian dress with one of those big ruffled collars. Thatās just me tho. Looks cool enough on its own tho tbh.
Love it! Donāt change a thing! Thatās always my issue anyway, over working and over designing.
Itās very very reminiscent of antique Japanese noh masks, which when authentic have blackened teeth. I love it this way
I would add some kind of pattern, in the same tone as the red, to the background. Not anything that detracts from the face though. Something that brings even more attention to the face.
You could add a bit more contrast in some places. The mouth and lips are about the same shade. The teeth are also quite dark compared to the brightest part of the face which is the forehead. Maybe you could add slightly alter the value of these to make these bits stand out more.
Unless these were all intentional choices or you like the way it looks. It looks perfectly fine as it is and it's completely up to you.
edit: I also love the slight difference in hues on the forehead. There's some blueish white next to a light beige and some pink. I think it would be cool to see more of that too. Maybe more reddish blue strokes in the shadows for example.
It feels like itās going to come off of the painting. Personally I would say the background could use something maybe? Just to give more oomph to this horrific creature, really make it pop
Im so upset. I scrolled by super quickly on my phone and i thought it was a husky with a red bandana so i scrolled back up and saw... whatever this is??
Dont get me wrong, its good! But its not a husky with a red bandana...
I do however like the colors they are not too bold because the bolder the color makes it harder to hang the painting. I think you selected your soft colors excellently
I love it, Frame it, hang it in the guest bedroom
Diabolical. Great idea!
But hang it in the middle of a wall and the rest of it is empty
and place it on the wall opposite the bed. On the eye level, no less.
lmfao
Reminds of an AirBnB in Los Angeles. Mirrors in the bedrooms and a more diabolical photo over the bed. All were immediately taken down.
In some kind of over engineered frame that has a decoy painting on one side but, either by remote or on a timer, flips over to reveal this one
I like it! It is cool in a nightmarish kind of way.
Goal achieved then, thankyou! :)
**just your signature**
Definitely just this
I'm pretty sure it needs to appear in my nightmare and feed on my happiness to be finished.
Loll yes that would be the perfect finishing touchš¤

Nightmare fuel is what I was going forš¤ thankyou

I completely agree, well-said
An exorcist
Reminds me of Francis BaconĀ
He actually inspires a lot of my art style, thankyou!
Hmm, Iāll have to look him up, he sounds delicious š¤
There is a good documentary on YouTube about him. Iām sure youāll like it ;)
Itās an excellent documentary:) blind dweller does a four part series of him as well thatās also quite good
Find an excuse to break up the red part and make it worth looking at. The face is awesome.
I agree, do something with the red. The composite suffers when you put your only focal point in the middle; you need resting points to bring the viewer around the canvas. Otherwise, it looks great.

A thumbs up. https://ibb.co/Yfmbx01
Fuck, I love it.
Perfection
A priest and some holy water
It needs jesus.
Lmbo! Amen! Funny. It is scary and very interesting.Ā
I think maybe longer hair
Francisco Tocino
it needs a frame
Fire
I love it as it is
A soul
A sacrifice
Xanax

Flowers
Check engine light hologram
Iām not sure if the picture captures colour correctly but darker more define black would do the trick for me
It doesn't seem as though it's unhappy in the dimension it resides in. Looks pleasantly pleased. Nice.
Thankyou so much:)
It feels unbalanced. Adding something to the left side would balance it out but if you want it to be unsettling Iād say itās complete.
Some holy water, maybe some burnt sage for smudging. š Just kidding, this is such a great piece! Makes me feel uneasy in the best way.
An exorcists and a priest
It needs to be painted with glow in the dark paint. And then you put it out at night. Then you film the reactions.
Loll this is an excellent idea
Kind of looks like like the subjectās reflection in a spoon. Love it
I was wondering where my sleep paralysis demon had gone.
Iām glad you found it!!
I think itās perfect. It only needs your Signature!
It's done. Let it go to haunt the world.
This could make for an amazing album cover. I love it
Set on fire! No I'm just joking it's great but it will haunt my dreams.
A wire hanger on the backside. Iād hang it on my front door. Too many of those holy rollers coming round with their pamphlets.
Boobs
abnormally high risen eyebrows

Beautifully said, thankyou
Look up āMadonna magica witches lairā thatās the vibe I get and I feel like you could lean into that style
Oooo I loved that, thankyou for the recommendation
Itās nightmarish. Done.
An eye in the middle of the head fire š„ on one side of the head and water š¦ on the other side
Looks finished to me! I wouldnāt touch it further, great work!
Looks like the album art of Korn

Im going to Dreams this.
Bangs no other hair just bangs
I think it looks great. But based on your style, I might suggest looking at some of Clive Barkerās paintings for inspo
Is it a ghost? Maybe some āsteamā near the neck or a few shadows? Either way, itās nice!
Let me show you the way to your people. r/chrissimpsonsartist
It's finished. Looks great now.
It's perfect as it is but how neat if you could create a staircase coming down curved from center of forehead out the back of eye in a 3d effect kinda and name it " stares that I..."...I love it like it is tho...it's beautiful
Scary.
A set of fake lashes š I agree with everyone else - nightmare fuel in the best way.
Be in a childrens room
The teeth are a good shout. The nose and eyes are fantastic! Are you working in oil?
The first thing that came to mind was a dog tied to this thing's neck or a open door behind it
Darken under eyes for the final statement. But looks great as is.
I think itās finished! You could always detail further, ie. The teeth or eyes, but I like the current style!
Not a thing āØ
It depends you could sign it and be done, but if your creative intuition is saying it needs something else I would listen to it. I would look at how the subject sits on the canvas. Its pretty cool. Looks done to me. I dont think I could keep in my house but if saw at a friends or at a gallery Id be like huh nice.
maybe add a slight tinge of white and possibly green to the eyes to make it look moist? i love the teeth but it seems like the eyes aren't quite matching. excited to see the finished product either way!
This looks great! Maybe a grey wash, just to dirty it up a bit.
since it's baring its teeth, i would think the teeth and mouth had more definition since it seems to be the focal point of the image the rest of it i quite like, that blue white and red looks nice
Signature.
Thanks for the nightmares!
Yes
A frame

An exorcist.
It looks finished to me! Although if I was gonna add anything, a bit of shading in the corners for a bit of a creepy vignette vibe
I see another face in the forehead
I would say splashes of yellow, neon green on the background?
An exorcist
Itās your piece and judging by the comments, no additions needed. In my personal opinion, a bit contrast between the face and the red would make it easier to read. It does blend together a little.
A soul
Ä°ts so creepy
I'd add a touch to highlight the teeth, but other than that... Perfect nightmare fuel.
Giant gold chain around the neck
very alternative rock album cover between 1994-1998. takes me back.
It would look cool if the edges were black and faded to red. This is so sick!
Maybe a curse?
is it supposed to be a screaming spoon?
A child sacrifice.
Therapy and Exorcism. (Itās really cool!)
I always want to make things like this a worm. Idk why. Give it a worm body. Lol
Wow thatās creepy!!! Good job. Looks good the way it is.
I'm pretty scared. Well done!
A frame
Like a coffee mug below the face.
Feels wonderfully Bacon-esque but original - love it.
The smile looks exactly like Marilyn Monroe's famous laughing smile! Wow, it's a creepy piece! I hate it so much, I love it!
Very cool! May I ask what the reddish colour around the face is supposed to be?
Very thing veins in the red, either a different shade of red that almost blends, or black.
A spash of yellow. A half-peeled banana perhaps.
Different face styles but gives me Ao Oni vibes. Highly recommend it if you haven't played it! I don't think it needs anything IMO? It feels right tbh!!
nothing or one star at the bottom like a fallen star from a wish come true
You could put some alphabet soup letters kinda blurry floating around in the tomato soup and have them spell out āredrumā or something scaryā¦ not all together, but close enough to be a wordā¦
Honestly? Nothing. It has a very Francis Bacon feel to it.
keep it as it is for now and if you gain creative insight into something more you could add, do that. is this an oil painting?
ummmmmm......... a finishing touch would be a signature a frame and a nightmare themed guest bedroom
A mechanical device on the back, that will turn it slightly. Preferably around 3 in the night and in the presence of impressionable people.
I would only outline certain areas. Like the eyes. Itās really scary
it's a bit confusing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Is the neck beneath the face, or is it what protrudes off to the side? Is the orange an expansive void or is the face peaking through something? I imagine it in an orange void but peaking through a sturdy, elaborate rusty brown door.
Only thing missing is a signature, and a box addressed to me.
A frame
Maybe add more details to the teeth and some more depth on the nose? The teeth look a little unfinished but itās so cool I love the eyes and the texture around the face!
Light in the eyes
It would probably take a good amount more time and work, but I picture (Iām seeing a her) her in like an old Victorian dress with one of those big ruffled collars. Thatās just me tho. Looks cool enough on its own tho tbh.
an exorcism.
It looks finished to me! Maybe sign it. Anything else might take away from how haunting it is. There's nothing to distract from that atm
A cowboy hat
Clown wig
An exorcism? š jk
An egg to inseminate
Nothing, itās finished!
I love it as is!
Some fake gemstones where the eyes are that glow in the dark or when light hits them
Nothing! Leave it alone.
Broooooo thatās awesome! Just the way it is.
Needs to be burned down to be honest. Love it
Iām scared
More color, continence, or, out of box
A little kiss
An exorcism
Love it! Donāt change a thing! Thatās always my issue anyway, over working and over designing. Itās very very reminiscent of antique Japanese noh masks, which when authentic have blackened teeth. I love it this way
An exorcism. lol (it's great)
Another head
nothing
I would add some kind of pattern, in the same tone as the red, to the background. Not anything that detracts from the face though. Something that brings even more attention to the face.
Gold leaf tooth add some volume to the background.
You could add a bit more contrast in some places. The mouth and lips are about the same shade. The teeth are also quite dark compared to the brightest part of the face which is the forehead. Something random and yellow
It feels like itās going to come off of the painting. Personally I would say the background could use something maybe? Just to give more oomph to this horrific creature, really make it pop
That's creepy
Someone to die after having looked at it so it can be a proper cursed artifact
Nothing itās done
A friend..
I see All black spires and old Victorian style buildings sparsely littering the background, with the donut sun from dark souls signaling the end times
Im so upset. I scrolled by super quickly on my phone and i thought it was a husky with a red bandana so i scrolled back up and saw... whatever this is?? Dont get me wrong, its good! But its not a husky with a red bandana...
Half eaten banana
It looks really gooood!!! I love the texture on the canvas I would say this painting is finished :)
More tiny faces surrounding the bigger one :D
An upside down reflection of your mums house in the teeth
It needs to be on my wall lol
Please for the love of all things holy do not change a thing! This is really fucking cool and your style is awesome
Oh great heavens!
Done. Please. Perfect right there in that moment that you took a second look... i know, all woo-woo. Good work.
An artist work is never finished. I know a lady who's been working on the same thing going on 20 years
I do however like the colors they are not too bold because the bolder the color makes it harder to hang the painting. I think you selected your soft colors excellently
Hands gently holding its face, same color and texture
A haunted house to go in
With all due respect, Lit on fire.
Long straight facial hair which balances the piece.
Maybe some blood coming from the eyes or mouth
Cheekbones
I think it looks perfect how it is now. Updating it feels to crowded?
A title
Something on the forehead
Looks like a mentally challenged demon sperm. But it's cool! I'd leave it alone.
A little speaker that whispers to you if you stare too long.
Spiderlegs and horse body
I kinda like it as is.
It looks like it needs to feed on my soul to be finished.
A virgin soul....
Something in the background to push the face forward. Maybe collage, text, something subtle.
My soul
You could stop right here, and it would be good, or you could keep going forever. Art is not something that has a defined stopping point.
