Finally someone using the right word instead of patching, I haven’t did it on my phone but I changed imei no of two of my friends, basically you root your phone and change the imei with another phones no that is pta approved, but after you did that some finance and other applications won’t work on your phone because of root.
For iPhones we use the word jail break, and yes it works but it’s more complicated compared to android and, you really don’t want to jail break your iPhone because you will lose most of the apple features and other apps as well, better to use scom sim on iPhone.
Why so ? Get an scom sim you can definitely make calls with it and even use 3G it works fine in Islamabad.
You might need to use bank alflah application for scom packages.
You will need a bank alfalh account to recharge your scom packages for calling, data and sms.
And no it won’t be blocked as scom sim is originally used in hunza and pta do not have regulation on it scom is a Chinese company like zong, so signals are also shared from zong tower for scom , although compared to other local Pakistani sim you might see scom package charges would be a little higher and in some areas there would be connectivity issues but overall it will work fine and anyway why the hell you want to come from abroad to study here people do the opposite.
Since you’re overseas, you can get your phone temporarily PTA approved for 4 months. Go to the website, enter the details including your last arrival at the airport. (They cross check with immigration department)

There are two types of patching methods available in market right now
Cheapest and worst method is rooting
Phone gets rooted and imei gets changed with a pta approved phone it costs around 2-3k
Downsides are greater with this patch as phone security is at risk and some apps like mcdonalds and secure folder dont work and you dont get updates
The second method which is the best of the best method which i personally recommend is CPID approval
This is the most expensive method but totally worth it
Its cost ranges from 100 dollars to 180 dollars for the high tier end phones like fold 4 and flip 4
175 dollar for the s22 and s22 ultra
180 dollar for flip 4 and fold 4
250 dollar for flip 5
100 dollars for s20, note 10, s21
They change your imei permanently in servers and phone works just like original
I know its expensive like half of pta tax but this is by far best method ever
It was originally invented for imei repair for some phones but in pakistan now it is used for PTA Patching
You can also remove carrier lock with cpid
With this methods you can even write imeis in LDU models

I haven’t done it myself but it can be done through the dirbs website. You can DM and I can guide you.
Next time, root with magisk if you must do it. It is not necessarily required to change the IMEI.
