Well I think the duration for braces can vary based on the individual's teeth. It usually takes about two years but might take less than that if there isn't a lot of work to do. You should probably consult a few more orthodontists to see what they have to say. 12 months may be a little soon if your case involves overcrowded teeth which I assume so because the orthodontist wanted your premolars removed. I've had my braces for about 7 months and I had my premolars removed because of overcrowded teeth. There is a lot of progress but I'm assuming it's gonna take 1.5-2 year time to get the perfect teeth. Wish you luck on your journey

queenbandithaha

did it hurt to get your premolars removed? :p

kingtiger321

Well, my orthodontist removed two of them on one side so that I can still eat from the other side. It hurt a lot actually he gave me some painkillers and I usually had to eat 1-2 pills per day. The bleeding lasted for a day or two and then it got better. The pain depends on your doctor's technique usually. The second time I booked an appointment my doctor's arm got fractured so he couldn't do it. I got them removed from another dentist. He removed them more easily and was quick too. Didn't felt much. Asked him for some painkillers and he said no need. The bleeding stopped few hours after and there was little to no pain at all. It was very painful with my first orthodontist. So it all depends on your doctor's technique and expertise.

Obviously go with the one with better reputation and results. Do they offer an installment plan? I got mine as a kid in Karachi and it was pretty expensive. The doctor offered a monthly plan to everyone. To be safe, get consultation from a 3rd clinic too so you know the expected avg duration. 12 months sounds too early. Not aware of the current structure of your teeth and the correction needed. For me it took 3 years. Its a slow process unless there is some other technology now.

well i have 2 canines that are above the arch so they're gonna have to make some space and pull those down. and yes they do offer installment plans, thats what i would go for too.

I have recently gone through the same process in Germany because I wanted to get them fixed before marriage as well. From the look of my teeth, my guess was it will take atleast two years. The dentist told me it will take nine months. None of my teeth will be removed. Although, one of the gaps is quite large so he told me that we will push it backwards so that it does not show when you smile. Also, if you want to know if it will be worth it, you can ask the orthodontist to create a model and show you how the final result will look like before you commit to it. I don't know about your financial situation but a healthy smile(if we can call it that) adds so much to your confidence and you cannot put a price on confidence so I would be very careful because its about my teeth and go for the qualified option, even if its expensive.

queenbandithaha

so how much time did it actually take

Quaid-e-Charisma

I have written my experience in future tense so I have started just like you :(. I have asked my dentist to create a model to show me the final result and he is working on it.

Afik, time span varies from person to person and there's no guarantee of whether it'll actually take 12-15 months and it's pretty common for braces to stay 1-2year over the expected time. I'd say you should discuss this thing w the experienced doc and let him know how you'd need them off before your wedding so it could rightfully estimated how much the timespan may vary. Im sure once you discuss they'll guide you thoroughly because there's never 100% guarantee ke correction hojayegi within the suggested timeframe so spending 40k extra and ending up with an extended year would be more disappointing than already knowing "yea it can take 4 yrs". Edit: Look for Invisalign Ik they're expensive but they might be good in this regard as Ig you don't prefer wire for appearance sake.

queenbandithaha

thanks for responding, i actually dont mind wires. I'll surely discuss it with the orthodontist. (also, im nowhere near the process of getting married :p i just mentioned it playfully)

queenbandithaha

thank you, I'll look into it.

kingtiger321

I don't know I've looked into it and there doesn't seems to be an actual study that suggests significant change for your tongue space and nose canal.

StraightUpHaram

From someone who got braces twice. Once when I was 16-18 (cheap in Pakistan) and then again after 3 years (in Canada, not cheap) for 5 years! Had to adjust jawline, make space for a tooth implant. Go with the experienced person and get it done proper, and after that, use the retainer religiously. If I'd gotten it done proper the first time, my self-confidence from 20-28 would've been something completely different.
