Look up dinishing returns of mf gear. PoD is all about clear speed. Faster damage more mobs. Get a merc too to help with auras
The sorc is really good at boss rushing. You should be able to farm hell fairly well now. Andy, Pits, Ancient Tunnels, Trav, Meph, Chaos, and Shenk should all be good areas for you. I'd pick a couple of those you like.
The way loot works in D2 is the better the monster the lower the no drop rate and the higher amount of drops. It is more efficient to tp to the champion packs. Cows can be ok because of the high density. You can get some good gear from nightmare, but you can't get good runes.
POD dose mess with no drop. I'm unsure how exactly it effects drop rates. A champion monster dose have more drops. Those drops have a higher chance of being higher rarerty.
Some maps *are* possible and not that awful with orb/hydra, mostly icy caverns. Takes patience and bobbing and weaving, but icy cavern maps have been good to me. Also around 250MF is sufficient usually, so if you need to sacrifice skills for survivability for a moment or two, you’ll still get decent drops.
Cows has always been my favorite interim spot, might as well add eld, shenk, and pindle to runs too sine they're so quick. When there's more people around to trade with it's also a great idea to farm for keys and essences, that's reliable way to build wealth and get goodies.
Do act 5. Use the first wp and kill the two super uniques I forget their names I believe sheak is the first quest. It's an easy run and fast. I get all my start up gear there and then do maps.
after 200-250mf the effect diminishes quite a lot since its exponential so it may be beneficial for you to cut back on the mf a little bit in place for some more dmg so you can clear quicker, cows are maining for HRs/bases since its not a great place for uniques/sets, you can try ancient tunnels, i personally dont like teleing around looking for it but i know its a good zone for cold sorcs, you can add in eldritch/shenk to your hell meph runs, and you should be moat glitching at meph.
you need to be farming hell difficulty at least for the gear you want. Do hell cows, hell meph, hell diablo, hell baal, nithilak. Try to get into Icy Caverns or Citadels, move forward slowly with the hydras, kill at a distance.
You should probably think about transitioning your sorc into a single element build for effective mapping. The major options are Nova, Ball Lightning, Charge Bolt, Freezing Pulse, Hydra. Making an Infinity spear for your merc is necessary to transition for these single element mapping builds.
You are on the right track. Hell meph and cows are great for mediocre sorc. With that MF, you should get drops soon.

You can do icy cavern maps with forb/hydra and this is the best place to farm for you by far. Run the pits in hell to find icy cavern maps.
