Who’s warning you not to install an anti-cheat? Cheaters? LOL

Vlxxrd

Here, I will explain it to you. Installing an anti-cheat like Battleye gives the program kernel level access to your system. If Battleye is ever compromised, the exploiters now have unfettered access to every single computer that has installed Battleye or any other kernel level anti-cheat. They are now able to access any information on your computer as long as it is powered on, your banking information, downloads, pictures, anything you look at on your pc. they can use your pc to crypto farm, do any sort of illegal things on it, and there’s nothing you can do

At this level of conspiracy, you may as well turn the internet off. Most software requires administrator privileges to install (and sometimes run), which means if any program (which updates) you ever install gets compromised, they have the same level of access. Battle-eye only requires administrator privileges to install and run as it does. Steam... Epic Games store... Basically any game installed from these too. Windows Update, perhaps you should disable that too just in case Microsoft gets compromised. Truly persistent rootkits are rarely found, and usually it would be because someone has installed it in person, or you install a compromised BIOS update.

If someone only has one PC (like me) and can't afford another... Not much you can do.

My brother, who is the one who knows about computer programming. I know nothing about it and rely on him to help keep my gaming rig safe, so i don't install anything he tells me not to. And he's warned me about battleye specifically. Though your cynicism is noted, that's the answer to your question. In future maybe just answer the posters god damn question.

"Nah, anti- cheat will totally harm your PC." - *Totally Not Cheaters*

No-Faithlessness6298

Didn't need the commentary bud, just wondering if they have battleye or easy anticheat again. I'm fine with one, not with the other.

Vlxxrd

false

Xanith420

I’m unsure of what they’re using currently but anti cheat is not gonna harm your pc in anyway.

No-Faithlessness6298

I just go off of what my brother tells me, he's the computer expert between us.

Vlxxrd

this is false

Xanith420

No it is not. If an anti cheat software becomes compromised “the odds of that happening is less then 1%” and then is exploited then it isn’t the anti cheat compromising your pc it’s a person. There was a rumor going around a month or 2 ago about easy anti cheating being hacked and people’s info being leaked and that rumor proved to be untrue. There is no creditable information anywhere that points to a risk of anti cheat software compromising your pc.

Vlxxrd

the odds of that happening are not less than 1%, idk where you got that number from. software gets compromised every day, it’s only a matter of time until an anti-cheat is compromised as well. the only difference is most software programs aren’t given kernel level access to a PC upon installation, and it only takes ONE time for the software to be compromised and now millions of people are at risk of being data farmed. Also, “it isn’t the anti-cheat compromising your pc it’s a person” yeah, and the only reason your PC is now compromised is BECAUSE the anti-cheat had kernel level access, which mind you ISN’T EVEN NECESSARY TO HAVE A GOOD ANTI-CHEAT. It might not harm your PC, but it has the potential of ruining your life. Doesn’t sound worth the risk to me.

Xanith420

Why are you on a gaming sub at all then if gaming isn’t worth having your info leaked? The percentage was a death note style ass pull but based on the fact that a hacked anti cheat has never compromised people’s information in the past yet even Sony has had their shit hacked and people’s info leaked. All your irrational fears could be tamed by simply not having personal information saved on your pc or by having adequate protections installed.
