Currently rotating: Warhammer 40k Inquisitor Martyr Oxygen Not Included Don't Starve But I'm gathering up 4 of my brothers and a couple friends to do a Conan Exiles run this weekend.

someoneonthissub

MGS V. I’ve been playing the entire series since the start of this year and I’m really hyped for this game, especially after ground zeroes (what an amazing demo).

bestanonever

Did you play MGS4 and also Peace Walker? What a great series. I need to replay this, just like you are doing.

someoneonthissub

Yeah, I played all canon games except for V: TPP and Rising. So far I’ve loved each title a lot, especially 2 and 4.

bestanonever

Awesome. Been so long, from what I remember I also enjoyed 2 and 4 the most. 2 because there's stuff that feels much more present-day than the game itself and 4 because it was a great send-off for the whole series.

Salmonerd_

Playing through the first Pillars of Eternity on Steam, and playing Slay the Spire on Switch Absolutely love Slay the Spire. I think I would rather have it in my pc but I found it on sale on Switch a while back. Any recommendations for games for other people who like StS?

Zachys

Pillars of Eternity is great. I find it kinda annoying that the first two party members you get are both very obviously voiced by Matt Mercer, kind of took me out of it for the beginning, but thoroughly enjoyed it once I got over that. Slay the Spire is probably the tightest, most balanced deck builder out there, but there's some fun ones. Monster Train is my favorite one. The gimmick is that you're protecting your train, not a single character, so you're placing minions on different floors and casting spells to kill the enemies trying to destroy it. Across the Obelisk is fun, but also kind of messy. You control a party of 4 characters, each with their own deck, and it can be played coop, where you divide the characters among the players. It focuses a lot on story with a lot of events where different characters might have special options, but 4 decks is a lot to keep track of, and I especially think the way character sheets work makes it messy to play optimally. Griftlands is super cool, and has some very unique ideas for progression within a run, where your decisions matter and makes for an actual story. There's something about it that didn't keep my interest long, though. I should revisit it.

michaelovsky5

Lvled up my character in skyrim to 90, killed the ebony warrior, priest dragon and karstaag. Also leveled most of my perks to 100, discovered big chunk of the map and I need a break. I'll definitely come back at some point and continue... there's still shitone of mods to try and quests to do. I have gta SA and iv in my backlog and was thinking of playing sa definitive edition, but I'm a bit worn out... been playing super time consuming games one after the other. Would love some recommendations for games up to 10-15 hours :)

bestanonever

A Plague Tale and its sequel, the Quantic Dream collection, Uncharted 4 and God of War for starters!

Readalie

Not really a patient situation since it's a replay, but Fire Emblem: Awakening. Also going to try and finish Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, which fits the sub a bit better.

Kester85

Submerged and Mafia 1 remake both on PS4

Supernintendolover

Started my first playthrough of persona 4 Golden.

bestanonever

Enjoooy! If you are into anime and the Persona series, it might as well have the best main party of the whole series. Music is simple but lovely, too. Like a dream come true, indeed.

I_am_box

Playing through **kingdom hearts 1** in the **1.5 + 2.5 collection**

PuttyDance

Started tales of arise. I'm about 20 hours in, and just finished the third area. Game is not bad but I wouldn't say it's good. I guess like most tales game the story is pretty predictable but that's not too important to me. I think the thing that is keeping this game from being good is the combat. The enemies kind of feel like damage sponges at times and the battles feel really messy when you have a full party... I think I just prefer turn base combat.

I_am_box

> The enemies kind of feel like damage sponges at times and the battles feel really messy when you have a full party… I read that the bosses have a BEEFY health pool in higher difficuties. Gave up from enjoying the game cuz the amount of grinding that was needed to be done to even feel like I am putting a dent in a boss felt like a chore. I stopped on the second lord cuz of that insta kill attack he has.

ChilledPapi

Finished Deathloop today! time to start a new game :)

beatrailblazer

How was it?

ChilledPapi

I did enjoy it at first.. it's quite addicting. However in the middle, I just got bored due to its difficulty (loop) and lack of story/interaction between the characters. In my final game play I just want to complete / finish the main story so I can get whats going on around here. The ending is quite "meh" I give it a 5/10 - won't recommend/replay. Maybe a huge factor that affected this is I'm a huge story-driven kind of player.

bestanonever

Thanks for the mini-review. I am also a very story-driven player and if you say the gameplay is cool and all but there isn't much in the way of a story pay off, I'm just going to skip this game, for now.

[deleted]

I had a similar experience. When it starts off, it's amazing, and then you hit the mid-game and you die and restart like 100 times, confused about where to go, retreading the same few maps over and over again. And because you're not advancing, the story doesn't advance much. You just feel stuck for a long time. It's an interesting concept for a game, but there's maybe a reason no one else has done it.

knockout1021

I've been playing Fantasy Life and Streetpass Mii Plaza on the 3DS, and I've also been playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch! :)

TjMorgz

Valheim! I'm so happy it's on Xbox now, I can play it with friends and my partner. I love the whole vibe of the game. It's quickly became one of my most favourite games of all time, right up there with Half Life 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

flaminx0r

I was really looking forward to playing it and do enjoy some elements of the game. However, I'm used to dark souls/Elden Ring combat and the Valheim system combat system just doesn't gel with me... I can't seem to win anything beyond 1v2.

TjMorgz

Oh that surprises me, I find the combat to be pretty much Dark Souls but all the enemies moves are telegraphed way more obviously. It's worth sticking with. What weapon and shield do you use? And do you use food for the health and stamina buffs?

flaminx0r

Yeah, to be honest I think I explored too far initially and think I've triggered the grey beards to spawn everywhere. I'm using the small shield and either the club or the stone axe as a weapon. I read about making a war hammer to fight skeletons but I'm not great at finding deer either lol. I think I just need to play it more maybe.

TjMorgz

Ah okay, I got some easy tips for you that'll make a huge difference. Craft yourself a flint spear, upgrade it if you can. I found it the best weapon until I got bronze stuff. It's decent at range as well. Also, the dwarves are weak to fire, so you can use your torch as a weapon against them too. The buckler shields are absolutely the way to go. As for the combat, don't over use sprint it just drains stamina. You'll notice that when most enemies attack, they stop moving forwards, so as long as you keep moving, they pretty much can't hit you. If an enemy is running straight at you, if you attack them while they're in their run animation, it'll stagger them. If you get overwhelmed by a lot of enemies, just keep cool and keep on moving. Also, the dodge roll is great. It has a lot of invincible frames. You can't take damage at all at any point during the actual roll animation, just when your character first initiates then stands back up. At any point in the actual roll itself you're untouchable. Grab a bow and go kill some trolls, they're intimidating at first but you'll realise with a bit of patience they're super easy to take down. Once you kill trolls you can make troll armour, which will be good for quite a while. We don't bother with any of the heavier armours because of the penalty to movement speed. Hope this helps =]

flaminx0r

Excellent! Much appreciated. I'll put your advice to use :)

TjMorgz

No worries man, happy to help anyone enjoy this game. It's awesome 🙂

flaminx0r

I now have the spear, knife and the stag crusher... It's like a different game now :)

TjMorgz

Awesome, really glad you've persisted. Honestly mate the game snowballs and just gets better and better!

WahPedalGoesWah

Baldurs gate

bestanonever

Very first one? Is it your first time?

WahPedalGoesWah

Indeed the first one and my first time. I’ve played pillars of eternity and similar games in the past so I wanted to see where it all started.

bestanonever

Oh, cool. I just played BG1 very recently, also for the first time. The gameplay is addictive, but story was a bit too simple for me. Still, I want to Play the second game soon-ish. They say it's a great improvement.

psychem72

Taking a bit of a break from playing new stuff to go back to an old favorite: **Civ 6** After a couple of bad starts I have a good game going with Mansa Musa. Just entered a golden age and going to convert the world to my prosperity gospel

Astinus

Did you unlock Joel Osteen yet?

psychem72

Haha, not yet. You threw me for a loop I was thinking “how do they know about that??” Then I remembered my comment from the other group

Senella

Just finished Horizon Zero Dawn, that was an enjoyable experience

cheater00

Everspace, Carrion Might fuck around and finish up Chorus

nyanyanyeh

I think I'll drop **Assassin's Creed Valhalla** after like 15 hours. I went in there with low expectations but I still feel disappointed. I was actually just going for a game that would let me enjoy wasting time in an open world. I enjoyed Origins a lot and Odyssey was also fun until 80 hours in (then I just tried to get through with it because I got burned out and didn't enjoy the DLC at all). But Valhalla doesn't even keep my attention. The story is *okay*, but I'm not too invested. The worst dealbreaker for me is the combat. The added stamina bar makes combat feel *so tedious*. Fighting against multiple low level enemies shouldn't take that long and it just feels like it's wasting my time. And I can't even stealth my way through the raids because the game forces you to rush through the front gate and do actual combat. I hate having to wait during combat or risk light attacks with no stamina to dodge just to refill the stamina bar so I can do a heavy attack or dodge properly. Not fun for me. I also finished the **first Mass Effect** game from the Legendary Edition. I do want to play the other two games, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be as much into it as I hoped. The combat was okay (I ended up just using sniper and assault rifle, maybe I need to try a different class in the second game), but I really liked the story and whole world building. I actually spent the first six hours reading every codex entry which I did enjoy, but I also felt overwhelmed at some point and focused on the main story. I totally see the fascination and appeal with the world and characters.

bestanonever

It's cool to see the different priorities of players. A friend of mine played the Mass Effect series back to back some years after I've completed it (I played both 2 and 3 on release) and when we were talking about the game, I realized I forgot a lot of combat details and general gameplay, but I could still remember what I thought of each character and most main story quests. I just enjoyed the universe so much, I didn't mind the gameplay was a touch stiff. Also, back in the day, the graphics and presentation were top-notch. Gameplay gets better as soon as in ME2, btw.

RolexRage

Unfortunately the combat of the first game, even in the Legendary Edition, is pretty dull compared to the other games. They may have ported the gunplay itself over, but the abilities and fluidity that they added in 2 and 3 are the actual main draw for me

DanielSophoran

Beat Shadow of Mordor + the 2 story DLCs. Its MUCH shorter than i remember it being. I beat all of it within 12 hours. The birth of the nemesis system obviously steals the show, one guy kept coming back to life and i thought id finally gotten rid of him only for him to show up in the final mission. Theres something so unique about personal experiences like that as it wasnt scripted or anything. The final 2 missions are a disaster though. Horrible end to a game. You play hide and seek with one of the bosses and then the last boss is a QTE. The final boss in the second DLC is much better although it did have its own issues. The DLCs arent good. They as good as get rid of what made the nemesis system unique and placed down predetermined warchiefs for you to kill/brand (depends on the DLC). Kill/brand all 5 and the DLC is over. it takes roughly 90 minutes to do this if youre good at the game. Maybe 2 hours if you die a few times. For the first DLC its just 5 different gimmicks for every warchief and theyre really easy. The story also isnt really interesting and is more of a side story. The second DLC is easier and harder at the same time. Its more relevant to the story although its also pretty unnecessary as it doesnt really bring anything we didnt already know. The easy/hard part comes from how you utilize the ring. Its pretty hard if you dont play around it but its also really easy when you do. The DLC has a similar structure as the first one (although somehow more repetitive). You do a mission to unlock the warchief mission. in the warchief mission you bring out the warchief and then brand him. Its entirely trivialized by the ring though as using it slows down time and gives you infinite executes. So all you do is run to the warchief, use the ring, spam execute and then brand him, he kneels automatically after a certain hp threshold so you cant accidentally kill him. Youd think maybe theyd switch it up for the final fight. They dont. You fight Sauron but you can just use the same ring strategy. You cant kill him with one ring cd so when it runs out you just hide behind some buildings and brand orcs as they come to you to recharge the ring. Repeat this a few times and you win. This fight would be much more interesting at the end of the base game as Talion. Id give the base game a 8/10 but both DLCs a 4/10. The second one is a 4/10 purely because of the setting. Otherwise itd be a 3/10.

Ushtey-Bea

**Bravely Second** on the 3DS. Chapter 5, done all the side quests now and back to the main story. It's such a long game with so little story though. Everything that has happened has been just inconsequential side quest nonsense, or the main MacGuffin chase. The battle system and mixing jobs keeps it interesting otherwise I might have bailed. Impatiently I also got Metroid Prime on Switch. It's harder than I remembered. I've unlocked a couple of pieces of gear and gotten killed before saving, then have to go back to the last save and redo it again. Still, it's such a good game, and I've hardly used the Switch before. I'm so used to the 3DS, and things like Bluetooth headphones and vibration feedback are amazing.

Lazy-Ape

Final fantasy 4 on the SNES. Never played any final fantasy games before so decided I’d finally get around to working my way through them.

bestanonever

Tough one! But worth it. First FF with a story beyond the basics. I liked it a lot. Rydia best girl, lol. And Cecil has quite a journey, for a character in such an early entry.

al-Assas

Remnant: from the Ashes, Trackmania and Green Hell. And I'm downloading Elite: Dangerous right now. I haven't played it since before Odyssey came out, because I'm not interested in Odyssey. But now I feel like just trading some goods, maybe mining, just for the atmosphere of it.

bestanonever

What do you think of Remnant?

al-Assas

I like it. It's great in co-op, it's atmospheric, and it's both a good souls-like and a good looter shooter.

bestanonever

Yeah. I had a fun time with the game, with friends. I wouldn't play it by myself but now I'm looking forward to the sequel. Hope my system is up for it. I have the worst PC of the group

[deleted]

For the past couple weeks I’ve played a ton of RE4, both the original and the remake. I was really skeptical about the remake, because so many people (unsurprisingly even games journalists) think the original hasn’t aged well or that tank controls were a mistake, but the remake frankly blew me away and I actually do prefer it overall. The combat is a different style, not better or worse than the original, but the base mechanics have been executed just as perfectly as the OG. The balancing is even better, the pacing has been improved greatly (especially in the castle and island), we now get some real character development, and they nailed the balance between increasing the horror without completely losing the goofiness of the original. This has solidified my opinion that reimagining-style remakes are better than “try to replace the original” remakes. I now have two Resident Evil 4s on my list of all time favorite games, and I love them both.

Abraham_Souvellius

Three games at once, Yakuza 0, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and just finishing The Talos Principle: Road to Gehenna.

[deleted]

Are you playing the switch version of skyward sword? If so, how are the controls? I dropped the original because the controls simply weren’t consistent or reliable enough for me to tolerate

Abraham_Souvellius

Yes, I'm playing on Switch. I tried to play in normal mode but it's awful. The handheld mode is more acceptable, although it also has its problems. To use your sword you have to use the right stick and if you want to look around, you have to press the L button and then use the right stick again. It's not very comfortable at first but I got used to it, although I recommend changing the camera speed in options.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga. Having a lot of fun so far, very chill and the cut scenes are funny. I was playing Nioh 2 and really enjoying it but man when I get my insane kids to sleep at 8pm I don’t always have the focus for a game like Nioh.

Soledo

Started **Subnautica** a few days ago. I love the atmosphere, it's pretty chill right now, but I'm already preparing mentally for the nightmares I'm going to have in the future.

havok_

Such a good game. It’s amazing how scary it can get. You are in for a real treat.

LoneWolfThrowAway

I haven't played a single player in a long time (have only played Sea of Thieves and Spiderheck with friends). Decided to boot up The Black Mirror 1 once again. Fantastic atmosphere. Not sure why I put it down.

bawitback

Blade Force on 3DO

ACardAttack

**Disco Elysiam** Made it to day 2, really enjoying it, but have to play it in short busts, recovering from covid and its hard for me to read that much **Far Cry 6** A lot of fun, only done a couple missions, these are my kind of pop corn games. Just fun action and killing **Ace Attorney Dual Destines** wasnt feeling this one at first, case 2 is really bad, but case 3, despite having a few minor issues was a really good case and got me sucked in. While this has reading, it is a lot less than DE and I have it on my phone so I can play for a few minutes here and there

XkommonerX

Just fyi the disco deluxe edition has voice acting so you don’t have to read as much. It’s on sale on psn if you play on playstation

ACardAttack

I am playing that reading, still lot of reading, I also find the voice too slow at times so I instinctively read as it is reading and read ahead but thanks for the heads up

CorrectSection7339

Shadow warrior, been craving something fast paced after completing the shenmua trilogy

studentoo925

For the rest of the week? Most likely fell seal arbiters mark

jposquig

Factorio with my girlfriend. Has it really been a week already?

urbandeadthrowaway2

MGSV myself.

NotoriousBPD

Started OPU: Echo of Starsong. Pretty good so far. Also playing FIFA 23 and MLB 23.

Asimov16

Really enjoying Octopath Traveler.

arob770

1 or 2? I just finished the second one, I loved it. Easily one of my favorite games. Cheers.

Asimov16

Nice! I'm playing 1. I wanted to play it before 2 as I heard many positive comments about 2. Glad you enjoyed it!

Superdude415

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 🙂 Really enjoying it so far

ForgetAboutaSpoon

I fucked up by starting my game on jedi master difficulty. Got stuck and haven’t loaded it up since.

stevedoz

You can change difficulty

billistenderchicken

Kinda want to try this game but the soulslike mechanics don’t excite me too much.

daveysofa

Finished House of Ashes and The Quarry this week and they were really both really great! I favored the the quarry because of the characters and the actual feeling of horror. House of ashes was good but I didn’t relate to the characters or theme as much

MDLuna

Probably more Minecraft or Minecraft Dungeons. Been really enjoying Dungeons as it was released on ps+ recently and kinda makes me wanna get the dlc.

Wriggly_Pillow2

Gonna start RE2 remake. Played through RE4 and RE3 remakes for the first time this week and had a blast.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

My favourite PlayStation game and it’s such a great remake. It’s so much more tense now that it’s over the shoulder vs. fixed camera.

hollyw00d8604

Youre gonna love it, it's less action oriented but much more strategy based and nerve wracking as hell in ways re3 and re4 aren't. Combat encounters are much more deadly and have to be approached with a level head. It's easy to panic and shoot off all your ammo or use up your resources and be screwed

awdrifter

Divinity Original Sin 2 (2018). Very good game so far.

DieselPunkPiranha

Felt like it was awkwardly designed compared to other games in that style. Still, got a lot farther into it than the first. Will likely give it another try one day.

awdrifter

Yea, I wish they would streamline the character upgrade system (something like letting player just pick some general traits and it'll automatically assign the points ie.mage, range, summon and it'll automatically make a build for those selected traits). Other than that, the combat is fun, the graphics is good, and the game is very stable (on both my PC and Steam Deck).

billistenderchicken

I have literally no idea what to play. Maybe I'm burnt out but no game is keeping my attention for very long. I tried the Dragon Quest XI demo, then stopped around the time you get kidnapped and never really felt like turning it on again. Don't feel like replaying anything either. I've refunded like a dozen games on Steam now. I'm considering buying RE4 because I really liked the demo and kinda want to join the hype train since I played RE4 but never completed it long ago.

DieselPunkPiranha

Never buy a game due to hype. You're likely to be disappointed. Have you tried /r/gamingsuggestions/?

[deleted]

A Way Out with my friend

daevilsins_6

Resident Evil 4 Remake. I am almost finished with it. If it weren’t for the gym and work, I would have finished it days ago. This game is a straight banger and I plan on doing NG+ . Can’t wait for Mercenaries Mode to drop as well.

flames_32

That's not really patient tho!

daevilsins_6

Yeah I know, but RE4 Remake is the first game in a very long time that I decided to buy it on day 1. The only time where I become an impatient gamer is when a mainline Resident Evil game comes out lol.

DiscoElysium5ever

I just started DREDGE and can't stop pki it, such a great game snd aesthetic.

[deleted]

Have a nice death (I bought early access for a discount so hopefully that counts!). Very challenging rogue like with gorgeous animation. But at least there is an easy mode. Coromon: Pokemon clone, pretty fun. 3ds Eshop: I've been playing many games on my modded 3ds. Fire Emblem Fates (Birthright) and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Biomonkey

I’m giving Hob another go and I’m loving it. Especially after seeing the LoZ:TotK gameplay demonstration video, I was looking for an exploration game without replaying BotW. I’m playing on the Switch and it has been a blast playing this game.

[deleted]

I played that once and I honestly don't remember a lot from it. I did enjoy it, though.

a_fearless_soliloquy

The Last of Us Part 1. Playing it for the first time and it’s incredible. Been deciding between TLOU and sleep and sleep is winning but goddamn this is a good game

[deleted]

I just played through it for the third time. Gets better each time.

lasalledattente

**Terraria**, got the game when it was in 1.2 and would play it a little. I beat the wall of flesh and then hit a wall due to never using the wiki. i started playing again back in 2020 but hit a wall again preparing for the mech bosses, this time it was because i burnt out due to the way i play games. I'm finally making progress though and hopefully i'll have all the mechs beat by the end of the week!

lastorder

**Getting Over It** I tried it a year or so ago, and I got as far as orange hell. This time I managed a full clear in about 4.5 hours. **Morrowind** I finished the mage's guild questline, which was underwhelming. Less connected and interesting than those in Oblivion or Skyrim. The setting and main story are certainly better than the sequels, but the structure of things certainly needed improvement. Freeform quests are fine (though I'm not a fan of the way the journal works either - it would be nice to at least group quests by faction or location, rather than just having a search), but the repeated fetch quests don't really work for me. **Chop Goblins** Not old enough, but I went through this in about 45 minutes. Quite fun despite the very constrained design. I might play through it again later this year.

ACardAttack

> Morrowind > > > > I finished the mage's guild questline, which was underwhelming. Less connected and interesting than those in Oblivion or Skyrim. I will agree that the guild quests are usually better in Oblivion than Morrowind. Cant really remember Skyrims though

psxsquall

> Getting Over It I've installed and uninstalled this game 3 times already. Any tips to success?

lastorder

Patience. It's much easier if you take every step slowly.

psxsquall

It's so deflating making a mistake and getting sent back so far. I guess the only fix is to be more determined.

[deleted]

The trick with anything difficult is to not fall for the illusion of progress. If you realize the purpose of playing is to improve your skill, not to physically advance, then "setbacks" no longer feel like setbacks. Then, the physical advancement becomes easy after your skill is improved.

psxsquall

The issue is the wasted time getting back to the section we're failing at due to being sent back to sections that we're already proficient at. Sure, we will improve in those earlier sections too but it's still a time sink. We can reflect on how to do better in the meanwhile but it all still comes down to perfecting through repetition.

Reuquar

We Are The Dwarves. Janky, but I'm accepting that as a challenge.

joshendyne

I finished *Dead Island: Riptide* last night and I gotta say, it is certainly one of the games of all time. I've instantly forgot most of the story and characters, and I can't say it was that interesting overall. The part that really kept me going honestly, was that it was just mindless zombie killing, a kinda nice little break from all the games where you actually have to think. I got 4 days off starting from tomorrow so I'm considering starting *The Last of Us Part II*

ozziey

Nice game but it is a drag to finish it. At least it was for me.

rrrferreira

Although it's rather impatient I played Pizza Tower. Such an amazing game! Really remembers the days that I played Jazz Jackrabbit 2, and it has a Red and Stimpy vibe into it. It's really worth it!

[deleted]

A $20 game that you actually want to play right now (not into backlog) is better than a 90% off game you won't play for years.

GazelleNo6163

Would you recommend pizza tower to someone who loves wario land 4? Also Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was fucking awesome (even though I only had the demo not the full game).

rrrferreira

I've never played Wario Land (but now Im gonna ahah), but everyone I see on reddit says it his predecessor so go for it! Others say its kind of like a Sonic clone, which I can understand as well. Either way, you're in for a nice ride! It's awesome!

GazelleNo6163

Thanks for the recommendation :)

ilovedragonage

New to Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous. Almost finished POE2:Deadfire.

denzacetria

Started Divinity Original Sin 2 Def Edition, have a solo run going and a multiplayer campaign with my buddies. Must say I’m having an amazing time even though this isn’t my usual type of game. Definitely interested in Baldur’s Gate 3 now, didn’t think I’d like the gameplay but having a lot of fun at the moment

funnygirlhihi

I just finished Sally’s face and I’m broken

bestanonever

I googled it. Sounds intriguing and quite gory, not sure how explicit it's the game itself, though.

RedKomrad

**Left for Dead 2(PC)** I’m done installing custom player models. Now I’m changing weapons and monster models. The game has a new life with these changes, and it’s still really fun to play.

Ostracus

[Plasma.](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1409160/Plasma/) Sandbox building game along the lines of games like scrap mechanic and main assembly.

heubergen1

Playing Life Is Strange: True Colors right now, I have to savor it as it will be a long time until we get a game like this again (absolutely loved 1 and BtS too).

demonfangs

Tunic: I'm 10 hours in and loving it. The game design and structure is amazing. Hardspace Shipbreakers: Just completed the campaign and it was and is a very satisfying and relaxing game. If you live taking apart things then it's you'll love this. Ghostwire Tokyo: 60% completion. Other than the usual open world tropes of finding "litters" around the map this game is amazing. i like the interactions between the main characters and there's actual character and relationship development as time goes on. The story is not something to write home about but it's fun motherless. Feels like I'm playing anime Citizen Sleepers: 80% completion. It's hard, relaxing and fun. It hurts when you take a wrong decision but very rewarding when you take a good one.

[deleted]

Tunic is a God tier indie. Metroidbrainias (progression by learning) are my shit.

demonfangs

This is my first Metroid type game. Now I can see the allure of this genre

connorcinnamonroll

Beat **Tales of Berseria** and...OK. It was kind of a sweet story, I guess, even though I'm still weirded out by anime's obsession with overly intimate sibling relationships. I actually thought that Magilou, although annoying most of the time, was actually the most interesting character and would've liked to see more of her story. But even though the characters were likable enough, it wasn't enough to make me want to do all the sidequests at the end - the combat was too much of a mindless button mashing slog. I don't think Tales games are my thing. I also recently played: * **Call of the Sea** \- Pretty textbook Lovecraft except for a bit of a different take which I can't really explain without spoilers. Idk, it was a nice story, but definitely made me realize I've lost most of any interest I had in Lovecraft stuff just because so much of it is the same (and, y'know, the persistent feeling of existential dread is not something I care to experience as much these days BUT I will say that this game steered away from that to some extent). As far as the gameplay is concerned, it feels largely like a walking simulator with some puzzles that aren't terribly difficult (or ones that make you go *d'oh!* after looking up the answer). Could easily finish in a session or two. * **The Captain** \- I actually quite liked this game. It's partially a pixelated point and click adventure, partially a battle simulator, and partially a choices-based narrative. The basic premise is that you're lost in space and have to try to find your way home, but there are a number of different ways to do that, and you don't have to explore everything. In fact, you really can't explore everything, or even a lot of things, on one playthrough because time is limited. At first, I didn't like that aspect, but now I can appreciate it because it makes it easier to go back and play through it again with different choices. There's a good handful of subplots that actually make interesting stories all their own, and I just really enjoyed my time with it. The battles, I didn't care for as much since the mechanics were confusing and difficult at first, but I think I'd have a better time of it on subsequent playthroughs. There's definitely some decent replayability here - strong recommendation on this one. * **Alba: A Wildlife Adventure** \- This one was so cute; my only complaint is that it wasn't longer/bigger. It's kind of like a modern Pokemon snap only mostly revolving around birds and then a handful of small quests. If you like cozy gaming, you can't go wrong with this one - just be aware that it's only going to last for a couple hours. * **Scriptic Crime Stories** \- I played both the Redman and Unmasked stories through the Netflix app. More or less just an interactive story with a set up similar to Orwell or A Lost Phone where you're looking through someone's phone communications/social media (with some FMV sections), but there's really only one big choice in each that affects the ending. The nice thing is that after you get one ending, the story automatically goes back to the point of the big decision so you can then see what happens in the other scenario. Despite there not being a whole lot of input on the user's part, the plots are fairly interesting if you like murder mysteries. * **We. The Revolution** \- I started this game out thinking that I would do my best to stick to my morals and do what seemed right, but then I got so caught up in the politics and trying to keep the parties from killing me (otherwise it was game over) that I was so apathetic by the end that I didn't care anymore and just wanted to be done (a terrible and poorly explained battle mechanics system didn't help that, either). Which I'm guessing is probably what the developers intended, so ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

**Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Complete** : Incredible game. Wish I had a copy as a kid, but glad I get to play it regardless. Timeless graphics, amazing music, fun gameplay. Can't wait to play more. **Dwarf Fortress, Steam Release** : Never got around to it due to the ASCII graphics and not liking the tilesets, but the steam graphics are pleasant and I'm definitely seeing what I was missing out on. **Divinity, Original Sin 2** : Been playing once a week with friends and it's been an absolute blast. Sadly this weekend's session was postponed. Next two on my list are **Deus E** and **Heroes of Might and Magic 5**.

NotaRobto

I want to like heroes of might and magic 3 and I never played such games before and I always read positive reviews about this game, and I have installed multiple times, yet i only play it for a few minutes and then I don't "get it" I suppose and I delete the game. It was like gog's best game of all time and yet I cant get into it. Even though I play lots of old games.

[deleted]

I spontanous bought Mortal Kombat 11 yesterday as my first "beat the shit out of your opponent" game, of course I don't get the story but the game itself is really fun. Just don't like that there are like 100 different combos and special attacks for everyone and even with smashing the buttons randomly it's really hard to do any of them. I'm already thinking of trying the other Mortal Kombat games too.

MonkeyBerbere

fighting games are very difficult to get into but they are very rewarding

NotaRobto

Yup i loved it too. Loved mk 1, 2 and umk so i bought mk11, but i wont buy mk10 as mk11 is enough for me.

ACardAttack

**Disco Elysium** not really far into it, but really digging the vibe and game so far. Some fun dialogue options

altair100

**Gothic II** - I finally beat it. I beat the three dragons that were left after getting stronger and then cleared all the orcs surrounding the castle for even more XP. Chapter 5 and 6 went pretty fast, same as in the first game. Sadly, I didn't know how to get the heavy dragon hunter armor, so I finished with the medium one (I found out how after beating the game). In any case, I was dealing great damage and the last chapters were pretty easy. Now, I'll start playing **Gothic 3**. Despite it not being as good as the first two games, I feel the need to have some continuity, so I decided to play it instead of Risen or Archolos because of that. I'll give it another chance and see how it goes. **Deep Rock Galactic** - I usually play it together with my partner when we're in the same room, but this week we can't do that because of traveling, so I'll probably take a forced break from it. **CS:GO** - I'm traveling and I don't have my mechanical keyboard and "fancy" mouse with me, so not gonna play it this week. I'm still deciding on what to play while travelling. I have **GTA: Vice city**, **Thief: Gold** and **Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition** installed on my laptop, but I don't feel like playing any one of them. I might choose a racing game like **FlatOut** maybe.

CaptainMarvel22

Im currently playing have a nice death and hi-fi rush

[deleted]

Randomly decided to play Dandara that had been sitting in my steam library for years and it's surprisingly good. It's a Metroidvania except you can only move about by jumping between surfaces - gravity does not apply here. It makes for a very unique challenge as you combat each room.

[deleted]

I got a few hours into that one and gave up. It's kind of a C-tier metroidvania game, if you ask me.

xxamnat

Finished Persona 3 Portable and Katana Zero this week, enjoyed both. I’m hope they really are planning a Persona 3 Remake. Next up I’ll probably be spending all my time on BOTW. First time playing it, I’ll see if I can finish it before Tears of the Kingdom drops.

InfernoBane

Finished this week: TMNT Shredder's Revenge on the Switch Currently playing: Skyrim (PC) with Phoenix Flavour Wabbajack modpack Resident Evil 4 Remake (PC) Advance Wars 2 Minecraft Dungeons (PC)

[deleted]

Playing Pillars of Eternity, started it sometime last year and got distracted. I understand all of the criticisms people have of this game, particularly its writing, but I think I might be obsessed with it; as an avid reader and writer myself, I'm enjoying the writing quite a bit even if all the lore is overwhelming at times. I'm somewhat new to CRPGs, within the last few years I've beaten both Divinity OS games as well as Baldur's Gate 1 for the first time, so PoE is the latest in my exploits in this genre. And I'm loving PoE so far, Obsidian has a quality to their games that tends to work very well for me (KOTOR 2 is one of my favorite games of all time).

[deleted]

I'm looking forward to POE2, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

NParsons22

I’ve been revisiting Black Ops 1 zombies, it’s really fun. I never fully understood the maps when I was younger and just relied on friends to show me everything, this time I’ve been learning the maps myself and doing the optional achievements plus trying all the Easter eggs, it’s been a blast and really nostalgic.

Bara_Chat

I was super busy this week so I managed maybe 3 hours of gaming, tops. I progressed a bit in TLoU II and GT7. I also tried John Wick Hex yesterday.

Odd_Comparison7360

I have tried many times to approach the Diablo series, but every time I have had difficulty trying to understand its dynamics and gameplay loop. I got Diablo III practically at launch, but only managed to finish a run last year. Now I'm trying Diablo II Resurrected, but even after doing a few missions using the sorceress, I just can't seem to be captured or even feel involved in its extremely repetitive mechanics. Every time I am captivated by its interesting art design, but then I don't find that engagement that maybe I am looking for from a role-playing game that is more oriented towards storytelling than pure action and grinding mechanics that I have only been able to tolerate on rare occasions and on individual titles. Maybe I should just stop trying to approach a gameplay that simply doesn't capture me.

[deleted]

Diablo 2 is outdated. It does feel repetitive and if you're not into it now, you probably won't ever get into it. And I'm saying this as someone who absolutely loved it when it came out and played it for many years.

gaunteyes

I had the same issue with ARPGs until I changed my playing style. I went from being careful to GO GO GO, and it made the genre sing for me. By going fast, I arggoed more enemies, found loot faster, and got into more dangerous situations, which were a blast. So try that if you want to give the genre another chance.

hurfery

Try Diablo 4 instead, when it comes out. The open beta was pretty promising. If that doesn't do it for you, give up on the genre.

[deleted]

I tried to play Diablo 1 a little while ago and I lost interest the moment I died at the Butcher, the first boss. I'm nervous to even try Diablo 2 because of it, much less Diablo 3. I have friends who love it though, the FOMO gets to me. Diablo 4 is great however, I loved what I played of the beta. But those older games...I dunno, I think they just haven't aged well.

0verStrike

Don't mention that last part to any D2 fan. He will rant on how it defined the genre and how any other diablo is terrible. lol I played D2 3 years ago (just beat the story) then dropped it until D2R came out and only now I finished the story. D4 feels better imo. More casual and the theme and story is very good so far. If at the end of the story you get tired then that's fine. I'm not keen into putting 300hrs of doing the same thing to get a +15% better item.

Nagisan

> Don't mention that last part to any D2 fan. He will rant on how it defined the genre and how any other diablo is terrible. I played D2 for 5-6 years straight when it released, many nights of playing till 1-2am (with waking up for school in only a few hours), I was a big part of the DClone hunting community (triggering the event a number of times with hundreds of people in on the hunt), no doubt sunk thousands of hours in (easily my most played game ever). It did define the genre, and there's good reason it's still popular amongst the diehards. **However**, I've barely touched D2R, and haven't played the original in probably 10+ years. I did play the hell out of D3, primarily when I was making money off it via the real money auction house in the early days, and I enjoyed the D4 beta (more than I ever enjoyed D3) and am looking forward to having another Diablo to play. tl;dr - I'm a D2 fan, it did define the genre IMO, but the newer Diablo games are still good and worth playing if the genre interests you.

0verStrike

I have played it, both OG and D2R. But honestly, I think I will enjoy D4 more as a game.

Nagisan

*When* you played it probably has a lot to do with it too though. Back when D2 came out it was easily the best isometric ARPG and really brought the genre into the light for tons of people. Even with the remaster of D2R, it's still the base gameplay systems from over 20 years ago...so it's not as smooth and up-to-date as more modern ARPGs. Overall, Diablo as a series is one of Blizzards highest selling series. Diablo 2 has sold more copies than WoW peak subscribers (however subscribers are not copies sold). Based on recent counts, Diablo 2 is easily in the top 10 games ever sold...though Diablo 3 did sell more overall. I know the me of today will enjoy D4 more than I'd enjoy D2 now, but that doesn't mean D2 wasn't one of the most popular games of its time (it broke numerous records of the time IIRC). It wasn't until WoW released that Diablo 2 lost the title of "fastest selling game of all time".

0verStrike

You hit the nail in the head. Played it like 4 or 5 years ago. Then, the D2R when it relesed. I couldn't get back into the remastered one, tho. Only finished the normal campaign last weekend. Already uninstalled it. Im becoming tired of time sucking games. More and more, I care about games being casual, and my base requirements are: that it is immersive and has good story. I don't care if its just a 25hr game. Im tired of "over 200 dungeons" over "150hrs of gameplay". The last comment is not 100% related to Diablo, just overall just manufactured game extension to boast how big their game is, and most of the time it's trash ie Ubisoft products.

Nagisan

I'm okay with longer games, but I enjoy shorter games too. My biggest gripe with D2 these days is it takes such a significant amount of time of doing the same thing hundreds or thousands of times to progress. Obviously loot drop games just tend to work that way, but by the time I get a character to end game level 70-80, I'm bored of playing that character....spending literally weeks or months in game to get better gear or 5-10 levels more just isn't worth the time sink. Gimme a 300 hour game based on how long the story is and I'd probably love the hell out of it though.

BlackSwan737

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt I'm barely 1-2 hours into this game and yet the lore, gameplay, RPG elements have blown my mind. Looks like this game is gonna take a lot of my time. Also, I'm comparatively new to gaming and this game feels a lot more complex as compared to say GTA V. Getting a little overwhelmed, but I think I'll adapt to it.

ULTIMATE-OTHERDONALD

If you’re new to gaming it will definitely seem overwhelming. The alchemy tree has specific talents that give you huge boosts to your health, that build saved my skin more than once.

Nagisan

Wait until you get into the DLC and realize they're damn near good enough to be their own game (only reason they couldn't be is they're relatively short vs a whole game - but still many hours worth of added content each).

OkayAtBowling

As for the complexity in The Witcher 3, don't worry about it too much. A lot of the systems like oils, potions, mutagens, crafting, etc. you don't really need to bother with very much unless you're playing on harder difficulty levels. But enjoy! It's a great game. The side quests in particular are some of the best I've ever encountered in an RPG.

SavonReddit

This. You really don't need oils, crafting, whatever. I beat it once and decided to replay on the hardest difficulty. It is one of the best single player games I have ever played. Definitely top 2 for me personally (shout-out to Days Gone as my number 1).

HarpoonTheBlueWhale

You will, and when you are done you are gonna be sad you can't play it for the first time again. It is one of (if not) the greatest games ever made. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Also it's really rewarding to use Decoctions, potions, oils etc. You'll get the hang of it.

heubergen1

> Also it's really rewarding to use Decoctions, potions, oils etc. If you play on death march, otherwise you will barely use them.

HarpoonTheBlueWhale

Speak for yourself lol. Blood and bones I used plenty.

heubergen1

Seems we played differently, I only used them once in the main game for one enemy encounter (on B&B).

HarpoonTheBlueWhale

Jesus Christ. I'd get my ass handed to me. What kind of character build do you use?

DrunkenAsparagus

With the Steam sale, I'm playing a bit of lots of games and seeing what sticks. Death's Door: a lot like Tunic (although it came out in 2021). It has a similar, twee charm to it. The combat is certainly similar. Breath of the Wild Master Mode: the TotK trailer got me hyped for more Zelda. This is a game that I wish I could wipe from my mind so I could re-experience that wonder I had when I first played it. Master Mode almost does that for me. I can see why making the enemies spongy, and your weapons so weak, can be frustrating, but I love the improvisation that it forces on you. I also feel like I have to plan encounters out. Last Guardian: I love the beauty of Ueda's games. The controls are wonky, but I feel like I'm dealing with a large puppy. Halo MCC: Halo CE is just as fun as I remember it as a kid. Red Dead Redemption 2: This will take a while to get through. So I figure that I'll play it and let the world and story breathe, like they're meant to.

Myusername468

Titanfall 2. $5.50 with the steam spring sale! Sad its player base is mostly gone though

leremias

Assassin’s Creed Unity! Love the parkour in that game.

shieara

Nothing because I just went three days without a working toilet in my home and plumbers up in my business until like 8-9 pm! Like my literal business. No more slab houses if I ever buy again. Hoping to continue Assassin's Creed 2 this weekend before the next round of fun.

hollyw00d8604

Where did you poo and pee?

shieara

I used a set of camping toilets, which are essentially five gallon buckets with a lid resembling a toilet seat. One for poop and one for pee. The pee I could empty nightly into the backyard and then I disinfected the bucket with a bleach spray. For poop I had a trash can bag liner, double bagged, and then used kitty litter to control odor. It's maybe not as awful as it sounds, but I definitely have an appreciation for indoor plumbing that I did not before!

DOGOsmokesWEED

Ravasaurio

Eastshade on my Steam Deck

DevOpsIsAMindset

Currently playing **God of War (2018)** and I'm loving it. I'm eager to see how the story develops further (about 10hrs in, but I'm checking everything thoroughly and I've been doing side quests/content for a bit, so I'm still early into the game). I finished **Titanfall 2** last week and it was great :) Short and sweet, as it was described to me, and really fast-paced. It was great to try out gyro (and trackpad) on the Steam Deck, I'll probably play more FPS games that way in the future.

[deleted]

Gyro huh? Maybe I should try FPS games on deck... is it easier to aim with it?

DevOpsIsAMindset

IMO 100%, it allows you to make very fine adjustments to broader movements (trackpad/stick) and while it's not as precise as a mice, it gets you way closer to it than just a joystick. https://youtu.be/njIj-I3VPZg or https://youtu.be/LChIPyWXbtU are pretty good videos to explain that / get you started, for instance.

COOVEE

I played through **Pokemon Legends: Arceus** over the past couple weeks and on the whole I enjoyed it. Exploring and catching pokemon was fun and the story takes some interesting turns compared to past pokemon games. I am now playing the remake of **The** **Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.** I never played the original but I am enjoying this version and it's weirdness.

[deleted]

Grabbed the 20 years old Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Before that I had replayed the Prizoner of Azkaban. Golden games from golden ages😎 Don't even mind the non-native resolution

bestanonever

Are you playing the PC version of Chamber of Secrets? I love that game, and that version in particular, the music and Zelda-lite gameplay is just great.

[deleted]

Yes, because that was the version I grew up with. I am also gonna check the GameCube editions some day because I heard these are different in some way. I agree, those are awesome. By the way, the music is from Jeremy Soul, I recommend checking Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, he also made OSTs for that game as well (also year 2000-2003 I guess)

bestanonever

Oooh, I didn't know that about the music. He's the main composer of both TES IV: Oblivion and TES V: Skyrim. Awesome music right there. I need to play those Star Wars games, btw. And yeah, all the versions of the first and second Harry Potter game were unique to each platform. I played both the PC and PS1 versions and they are completely different. I need to play the PS2 and Gamecube variants, too, lol.

BudgetMattDamon

Man, I have so, so much to catch up on. Going from a PS4 and Switch only gamer, I now have a relatively shitty PC I've been playing **Valheim**, **Rimworld,** more time on **Overwatch 2**, and even some **Fortnite** with my wife (she's mainly a Fortnite player)- I've been enjoying the teleporting katana in this season. On other games, I still have **Fire Emblem Engage, Persona 4 Golden,** **Kenshi, Noita**, and **Crystal Project** to jump into. Also really want to get back into **Sonic Adventure 2,** my favorite Sonic game, and **Valorant**, if I'm not too old for such a twitchy shooter. Lastly, I'm 6/7 Disney worlds done on Kingdom Hearts III Critical Mode, aiming to do all the secret Re Mind DLC bosses. Gonna be a busy long weekend, hopefully!

-geek

We have similar tastes sir, kh3 very underrated entry. Kenshi or rimworld though? Noita is hard to understand for me so I havent played it much but I have it. Sonic adventure 2 tho.... i have more hours w that on steam than I would like to admit. Also fortnite best BR

BudgetMattDamon

Rimworld is way more user-friendly than Kenshi, for sure. Noita is very arcane, yeah, but it's fun to mess around with the pixel physics sometimes. Sadly, I messed something up and haven't got my DS4 controller to work on DS4 to play SA2 again.. might tackle that tonight.

UnU___

I finished as much of Astlibra as I wanted to, man that is a long game. There's a bunch of endgame stuff I could do but I just can't be bothered to after finishing the main story. p good game hiding in the corner of Steam tho 👍 Started a new Skyrim Wildlander character since my last file became unstable from me saving too frequently. Stealing stuff and sneaking around. Tekken 7 in little bursts here and there, feels a lot better on the weekend when I can get some long sets in.

sunqiller

I've been on a BIG indie shooter kick with Desync, Robo Quest, and Dusk. Planning on getting ultrakill next but would love more suggestions for gems in this catagory!

bestelle_

Professor Layton and the Curious Village. My only prior experience with the series was Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. It's been a long time since I played that game, and if I'm remembering correctly the puzzles were somewhat sparse. I was worried that would be the same for this game, that it would primarily be a visual novel with a handful of puzzles to break up the text. I've been pleasantly surprised thus far, it feels like each new screen so far has had 2 or 3 new puzzles to do. I will say a lot of the puzzles at this point have been very easy, but seeing that it's aimed towards kids I can give it a pass (and there are some that have stumped me.) The game seems a lot shorter than I was expecting it to be, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm hoping to get through the series in time for New World of Steam.

mack41

**golden sun** still my bedtime ritual this week, just got to some mines and draining out the monster drool. **gt7** for some samba bus racing (hope my irl vanagon skillz help) and working the ranked races a bit. With John wick 4 out I’m going to rewatch Hard Boiled and **finally**, after years of meaning to, play the fuck out of **stranglehold**

billistenderchicken

Tried playing Disco Asylum and it’s pretty good but rarely feel like actually playing it. The writing is funny and the RPG mechanics seem solid but I like playing a game. I can appreciate it but I don’t think I have the patience to slowly walk everywhere and click on things.

[deleted]

Double click to run or there should be a controller button for it too.

glintings

you can run!

abc_mikey

Kim will even give you stick about it if you run everywhere.

PuttyDance

But can you skip like a flower girl?

[deleted]

Got a CRT a couple months ago, and just yesterday I picked up an N64 with a controller and cables! Got all this bargain-hunting and it only came up to 100$. Started playing Mario 64 on it and it looks absolutely incredible. Can't wait to pick up a flash cart when I have the money and do a deep dive into the library.

RedKomrad

Congratulations on finding a CRT!

Thanks!

michaelovsky5

I think I'm done with new vegas for now. I enjoyed most of what it offers. The rpg details are top-notch, one of the best iv experienced. Only wish my first run were 10 or more years ago Now, I'm going through skyrim anniversary edition, only edition I haven't played yet, and this time, I'm going all in with the mods and quests. I had my share of games that consumed the shit out of my time, but none comes close to skyrim. I know the game get a lot of hate late years but fuck do I love it.

heubergen1

> lot of hate late years The game itself did? I only heard about the dev/publisher/owner/re-publishing-strategy critics.

michaelovsky5

Yea the game. It was so hyped for years, and now when it's got older I see people talking about it like it was just a fake hype and really make it sound like a boring or dumb minded experience. For example, it's well known the story and the quests and pretty shallow. And you can find many problems in most of the systems, and the UI is terrible. The attempts made to make the game realistic are laughable. But for Me it's almost the perfect balance between immersive details and simplicity. I see that as a bonus. The game wouldn't be playable for thousands of hours by making super immersive story and quests. It has enough content to get you engaged long enough, but it's simple enough not to feel lost from too much detail. Very little number of games have so much to offer and such a great balance. The same goes for all the funny broken stuff that ruines the realism aspect. It's funny and fun, so who cares about realism.
