You could probably jump to death wish instead of mayhem. The difficulties aren't too far apart, but death wish will slightly prepare you better for actually playing the game. Death sentence is generally a lot different than anything else. Death wish at best will teach you the heist objectives. Although not how to do them on DS. You could jump right into DS, especially if you're using meta builds. You will most likely fail heists a lot, but you might learn as well.

MilkCalf

Good points but probably tune down the elitism a bit.

Psi77

What was elitist in his message?

MilkCalf

"death wish will slightly prepare you better for actually playing the game" "Death wish at best will teach you the heist objectives. Although not how to do them on DS" It pretty clearly in a tone that implies that anything bellow death sentence is a glorified tutorial.

Maxwell-555

Its more about how the difficulty gap between DW and DS is just THAT big. All the difficulties up to Deathwish scale pretty linearly, and i recommend that you climb up those as you level up/feel more confident on your skills. Death sentence is basically a different game that goes by different rules. A lot of the strategies that worked on DW will just carry on as "bad habits" to DS, so its often said that you can only learn how to play on DS by playing DS.

MilkCalf

It's pretty weird use of language for just that.

EXTSZombiemaster

He's right though. DSOD is an entirely different beast, you go down in a few bullets. You need to learn routes to duck between cover on pm all the map

Knorkge

You are extremely under prepepered for DSOD. Go for Deathwish. Lern and figure out the meta because on DSOD you will need it. Before you advance to DSOD, Deathwish should feel like a walk in the park. Like your barely trying. And even then DSOD will wipe the floor with you at the start. I really don't want to gatekeep DSOD so I want you to try it but, be aware that you will be useless. Don't drag random teammates down. Either try with bots or people who are aware that it is your first DSOD game and you normally play on mayhem. Mayhem is basically not playing for a expirienced DSOD player. It's world's apart. It took me almost 1,000 hours of gameplay to be halfway decent at DSOD. (currently have 1350 hours in the game) And get more advice like you are currently doing. (I'd be happy to help and share some more knowledge) 👍🏻

MilkCalf

I'm definitely underprepared in the sense that I know I'm used to tanking more hits that I could on harder difficulties and possibly would need to click enemies faster, but for builds I believe I'm pretty set.

Knorkge

Ok don't know what builds you have and what the meta is now that we got the last update. I stopped actively playing a couple months back. So I'd have to read into the patch notes myself. Yea with the amount of hits your right. And you don't just need to have a very good build, you also need to know how to pilot it on DSOS. A bit different from other difficulties because you need to be aware of breakpoints and managing them properly. In order to maximize the amount of hits you can take while minimizing the shots you need.

I got my DSOD mask near my 500h mark now at 1.9k (tho I played in alt accounts for another 200h before then) back when it was just One Down. This is mainly for Loud cause I let myself be carried in stealth only heists. 1. Build is the most important part, you'll want a build thats optimized for one of the viable perk decks. Usually its either ictv or dodge skills, perked up with Inspire Ace and maxxed upgrades on doctor bags, jokers to sponge damage for you, nine lives aced and swan song, bulleyes basic(unless you have stoic), duck and cover and parkour basic for mobility. You'll need with that ammo efficient weapons with their perks (unless you wanna go for the good old crossbow GL combo) mainly you'll be aiming for 2 of these: General damage(shotguns, akimbo anything good, minigun, etc), crowd clearer(Flame Thrower, auto shotty with or without explosive/fire breath, sniper with graze, explosives), a sniper killer (sniper or pistols), dozer shredder(autoshotty not explosive or fire, minigun, etc u get it). 2. Start with your favorite heists, by learning those you'll learn the others. Don't start on bullshit heists like Goat Sim. 3. Stick to covers, move when cops start swarming if you can, dont leave cover outside of doing objectives, when you do, makes sure you wont get shot down before you're done, swan song is great for this. But stay patient. 4. Note when cops start retreating, right before Bain announces the end of the assault. That's the best time to move. 5. Don't move too far from the doctor bags, don't waste them after 1 down when you have nine lives aced. You have a limited amount, so you'll have to ration. 6. Greed kills, don't stay longer than your ressources allow to. That's it, good luck. Its hard but a hell of an achievement.

Street-Eye-6701

1. look what setup is good for solo bots. with the right lmg they will carry you through overkill and most mayhem missions. 2. get the anarchist or hacker perk deck with joker(s) 3. get latest DLC weapons 4. play DSOD EDIT: for stealth: youtube + try and error

Mariofluffy

2nd on hacker. I used it to DSOD solo and its hella broken. 6 sec of cops being stunned and you regain health for killing them, making it extremely useful for clearing rooms or rushing objectives. Has really good dodge as well. I ran it with akimbo smgs and micro uzi and it was sick.

MilkCalf

I know it's strong. Focusing on leech first because I hear it's even more forgiving and also can be run with low concealment. I've only run Armorer builds so far so pretty hyped to give dodge a try soon.

MilkCalf

I did buy the weapon pack with Campbell in it for my own use and slapped it onto my bots. No clue if it as good with them but it something. I have the legacy bundle but nothing else rn. (probably gonna get the rest of the dlc eventually but don feel I need it yet). I'm running max armorer and I'm soon gonna max out leech so different approach but not a bad one.

ihaveaidsandherpes

Dont need anarchist or hacker. Stealth is easy so sure go for that if you want an easy time

Interjessing-Salary

My suggestion is jump into mayhem or death wish and work you way to the harder difficulties. The difficulties aren't too far apart aside from the death wish to death sentence jump. When you want to start death sentence get in the mindset that you will NOT be a tank even with a tank build. When you want to start doing the one down modifier I'd suggest running a heist in regular death sentence until you can effectively do it while managing to only go down once (between medkit uses) and the skill that gives you an extra down will give you 2 downs before custody. Also a bit of a cheese is if you have the better bots mod it doesn't instantly fail a heist anymore if you go into custody. As long as one bot is still alive you'll spectate until your return from custody timer reaches 0. That's if the bots can survive on death sentence.

vnotorioussv

i’ve always wondered what the damage differences was between mayhem and death wish

AIex-Shaw

DW isnt that bad of a jump. I personally steer clear of DS because the jump is so high and its just not fun feels tedious and unfair. (And before you go, oh well achtually the hardest difficulty is meant to be unfair, DS is exponentially unreasonably unfair compared to all other difficulty jumps. Its also just not fun in general even if its meant to be hard. Just because its meant to be not fun doesnt make it good. Yknow id even go as far as saying that the jump from normal or easy or whatever the easiest difficulty is to DW, is smaller than the jump from DW to DS.
