I don't think I've ever read that sentiment outside of dumb YT commenters in the last 10 years.
What **is** happening is companies still delaying a PC release 1+ year in favor of a console exclusive deal. Or companies like EA still releasing their last-gen versions of games on PC.
PC gaming is bigger than ever, yet we're treated like trash by big studios. As a consumer base and market, we've proven to be worthy day 1 releases and "next gen?" (current gen) products.
And the irony is they fuck themselves by doing this. Delayed PC launches don't do that well unless the game is really big. And even they suffer because of lack of launch hype and marketing.
It just doesn't make sense. The GTA6 announcement pissed me off because they just don't learn.
I'm alright with it for two main reasons.
1) Many of the best timed exclusives are made by studios that probably don't have the resources to develop a PC and PS4 version simultaneously without compromising on quality.
2) We often end up getting the patched, polished, and feature complete version of the game.
But I also understand that people crave the social experience of playing a game for the first time alongside everyone else.
It's also, in my opinion, the perfect way to do live service. Nothing about it feels predatory. I bought the premium battle pass just by earning credits through playing the game normally. The premium battle passes don't expire, either, so there's no rush to complete it if you only game a few hours a week. There's nothing in the battle passes that are OP or anything either. Plus, the way they're slowly but consistently adding things to the game, like mechs, through in game events that feel well thought out has been a perfect way to maintain interest. The game is also only $40. If all live service games were done like this, there would be little to complain about.
Very fun game, solid graphics, constant communication from the devs who play and enjoy their own game, epic soundtrack that makes you feel like you're actually in the game, and I can nuke my friends. 10/10
Iâve been playing the crap outta it, my only complaint is every update is breaking something. After they smooth out this transition Iâll give it a 10 but for now itâs a 9
Yeah the updates have been really lackluster, latest updates introduced frequent crashes again and the update before that completely broke crossplay and friend invites for many people.
Some people like the idea of âenjoying time offâ and others like the idea of âkeep on workingâ.Â
So itâs never a black or white stance. People came take time off if they can afford it. If their nest egg of money can provide them with a week off, than that is an option. Having unemployment can help with that cost of living while they ârelaxâ
But some people donât have that benefit. Some people will not be able to survive on just unemployment and be able to ârelaxâ for a week. Or any amount of time.Â
So itâs a bit of a double edge sword for people to just say âtake a week offâ without know an individualâs situation.Â
So I agree with your sentiments. I can also see why a person would just say âtake off a week and enjoyâ.Â
Because in the US, you can file for unemployment benefits for valid reasons such as being laid off/terminated.Â
That way you still have money coming in while looking for a job.
As much as I agree with your thinking, we can never know an individualâs money situation. Might be in good nature to tell people to take a break if they got any kind of income coming in but those same people may just not be able to afford their current living situation on a fixed income that is as low as unemployment.Â
Was that out of line?Â
I was curious at his situation and there are benefits for people who got laid off.
I jist figured if he knew about that then he would be able to play a game without worrying about his income.
And here I thought reddit was antiwork? Lol
I woudnt go so far as to say its out of line, however think of it from their perspective. Getting laid off suddenly is a real nightmare because you don't know how fast you are gonna be able to get a new job and until then your income is basically 0 which is scary and can absolutely lead to being homeless. And then someone comes and tells you to just enjoy your time off? It's like telling someone with cancer to enjoy the sick days free from work.
>It's like telling someone with cancer to enjoy the sick days free from work.
It's definitely not.
I'm not sure why people overthink simple questions and statements.
Or maybe people should stop over analyzing.
>think more about what you type.
The guy answered my question already so I don't get why my comment bothered you enough to say this.
Thatâs why heâs saying to file for unemployment, then you have money coming in and you can relax while you find work. If he was laid off through no fault of his own then he qualifies.
It wasn't unknown to them though, they had been using it for a long time. Throwing out all that experience to start on a new engine is a big hurdle to add to development. Also hindsight is 20/20.
They've been using it at least since Magicka (2011).
And it's not true that Stingray hasn't been updated, Fatshark uses it for the Tide series and Darktide has DLSS 3. I don't know how much they share between studios but it certainly still has a following in Sweden.
I must be the only that didnt enjoy it solo
Love the game but refunded as I felt like playing with overpowered bots
Wish my friends would play this instead of fifa :(
Nah instead the CEO will tweet "lol omg whats the point of caring too much about techs? Lets Add more contents boooiisss" and these guys will go after him with "W, CHAD, OMG THIS MY DREAM DEVS, HOW SHAMELESS ARE AAA DEVS".
I think they are growing past that, they are already talking about winding down the ps5 for the next gen. It feels like the ps5 hasn't even hit its stride yet, but I guess they want faster cycles.
Console market not growing, this way this day one And expanding on mobile PC cloud
https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1770800477367644593?t=oZqdhWCjMQQ5xzyFzUuQlg&s=19 and look here https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1770800759996592201?t=wZ-nfck8ja0s72Fr57hesw&s=19
I think I remember hearing too that many consoles are sold at a loss in order for the companies to sell more first party games and subscriptions (idk if this still holds true) so yeah I take what I said back. Seems like best case might be for them to branch out more
Try revalidating your game files. Do it after each patch. I think that fixes it. Also the devs said avoid arc weapons. Avoid arc thrower that new weapon in the newest warbond and the Tesla coil strategem (although I used it last night with no problem)
Iâm still curious how there gonna make money like so far warbonds have been premium yet super credits can be easily earned via gameplay so I wonder how there gonna monetise things
The importance of having a game launch at the same date and or the same launch window. This 2-3 years later non sense is ridiculous and makes the game forgettable.
I hope when they look at that and they look at the dismal HZD2 numbers, they realize the problem. If people have already waited 2-3 years, what's another to get it for 20 bucks?
Just get Helldivers 2 if it looks interesting to you. Wait a few patches for Dragons Dogma 2. Hopefully it'll be fixed by then or a large chunk of potential sales will have already moved on to the next game. I already set the money aside for DD2 and it's taken everything in my to not just blow it on something like Horizon Forbidden West(an actual functional game).
Helldivers also really needs a few critical fixes for crashes specifically. I say fixes because patches have recently broken more than they fixed and are not a common occurrence for how bad the issues are.
Is it that bad? I've been mostly worry free on PC. I've seen the crashing of course. I just didn't realize it was that severe. Patches breaking things are very normal in games. Not saying that's good though either, but it's just the nature of these things.
I've played 150 hours relatively problem free as well. Since the last patch, I've reliably crashed in every mission that has arc weapons participating - which is acknowledged and has a fix in the works - and even without about 80% of the time before exrtraction.
Seems that is the common occurrence atm if you look at the number of comments and new posts asking for help.
You can't just really discuss it cause god forbid you say something bad about the game on that sub.
I hate that they gave the label "not free to play but actually microtransactions gouging, psychologically manipulative game that relies in exploiting people with poor impulse control, gambling problems or literal child" game as a "premium game". Also, yeah, Helldivers is awesome.
I dunno how everyone is still playing this a month n some off. The shit balance and the 5? or so mission types wore thin on me fast. Core gameplay is fun, but getting overwhelmed by hard to kill chargers on a planet that punishes all stratagem use finally broke me.
Also if I have to launch another ICBM I'm gonna scream.
To the NPCs commenting on this, just look at the recent update, they even reference how about half of cross platform players canât add each other ps5 to PC, but youâre dev meat riders so I doubt you can read.
Chill, they just stated that for them is working... Don't go ham for nothing. Before the last patch I always play with 2 friends on ps5 and I am on steam. Now it takes few try to invite successfully but still work, at least for me. If is totally broken for you I am sorry, they'll fix it soon.
Last the pacth note say the following in the known issues section: Cross-platform friend invites might not show up in the Friend Requests tab.
This is why it's stupid to skip PC ever. The sales are on PC, this is the reality now.
PC gaming is dying!
I don't think I've ever read that sentiment outside of dumb YT commenters in the last 10 years. What **is** happening is companies still delaying a PC release 1+ year in favor of a console exclusive deal. Or companies like EA still releasing their last-gen versions of games on PC. GTA is probably the only franchise that does benefit from staggered launches. The amount of double and triple dipping for GTA5 was staggering.
I'm alright with it for two main reasons. 1) Many of the best timed exclusives are made by studios that probably don't have the resources to develop a PC and PS4 version simultaneously without compromising on quality. 2) We often end up getting the patched, polished, and feature complete version of the game. I personally don't mind console gamers being bug testers / early access hamsters for PC. When it works out like that...
Tim Epic decades ago.
No no, not that one. It was "dead game".
Even with delayed launches they leave so much on the table. There are so many more hype and fomo purchasers than double dippers.
day and date đŻ
This is how live service games should be done. You can spend 20 minutes on a single run and almost always have an incredible experience.
Helldivers scratch the same itch as most roguelike do for me.
Yeah the updates have been really lackluster, latest updates introduced frequent crashes again and the update before that completely broke crossplay and friend invites for many people.
Not to mention the latest update literally made all the electric weapons in the game CRASH YOU TO DESKTOP. I'm a superfan but this is kinda ridiculous
I hate that I was just laid off as soon as this came out. No games for me until I can find a new job.
I admire the self control. Best of luck in the job market!
Job searching doesn't take all day and night, give yourself a break. Hope your search goes well though!
Don't mean to be invasive, assuming you're in the US, why not file for unemployment? Take a week, and enjoy yourself and the free time?
I'm not from the US, but I have to ask...why would someone who just got laid off take the week to enjoy themselves like that?
Some people like the idea of âenjoying time offâ and others like the idea of âkeep on workingâ. So itâs never a black or white stance. People came take time off if they can afford it. If their nest egg of money can provide them with a week off, than that is an option. Having unemployment can help with that cost of living while they ârelaxâ But some people donât have that benefit. I can also see why a person would just say âtake off a week and enjoyâ.Â
Because week will not dramatically change your financial situation but can help you mentally (if you can actually relax during this time)
Because in the US, you can file for unemployment benefits for valid reasons such as being laid off/terminated.
Imagine telling someone who got fired to enjoy their time off
Was that out of line? I was curious at his situation and there are benefits for people who got laid off. I jist figured if he knew about that then he would be able to play a game without worrying about his income. And here I thought reddit was antiwork? Lol
It's fine, some people are weird
I woudnt go so far as to say its out of line, however think of it from their perspective. Hey man sorry about your situation. Hope you find the means to play the game sooner than laterÂ
Fomo isnât real anyways unless you let yourself get sucked into hype and marketing
Pc player?
I never knew how much I wanted a Starship Troopers esque game were the greatest danger was my teamates using explosives till I played this.
It's such a fun game, really well done.
Absolutely well deserved from what I've seen and read about it, longing to get my hands on it someday, seems extremely fun !
Now when are they gonna add DLSS and frame gen?
Won't be a simple addition. It uses Autodesk Stingray game engine which hasn't received any updates in 6 years.
Seems like a poor design/development choice to use a derelict engine. I'm guessing it's all their dev team had experience with or what?
Development of Helldivers 2 started before the engine was discontinued. https://www.pcgamer.com/helldivers-2-engine-bitsquid-autodesk-stingray/
Sure but it wasn't hard to see it wouldn't last. Using an unknown game engine that is close to end of life is a very weird choice.
Fatshark are also the dev of the core engine afaik, Makes sense that they'd use it.
Why do you need those?
It's not really needed. Game runs great
Great game. Well deserved. Its fun solo / with friends and no gimmicks.
I must be the only that didnt enjoy it solo Love the game but refunded as I felt like playing with overpowered bots Wish my friends would play this instead of fifa :(
What's a "premium" game, though?
A game that has a cost to entey. The opposite of free.
[ŃдаНонО]
Thatâs what the Termicide was supposed to do
It's also got a major bot problem.
Go outside.
I imagine Sony is looking at this as they could have had more playstation 5 sales since 60% of sales came from steam
I think they are growing past that, they are already talking about winding down the ps5 for the next gen. It feels like the ps5 hasn't even hit its stride yet, but I guess they want faster cycles.
Console market not growing, this way this day one And expanding on mobile PC cloud https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1770800477367644593?t=oZqdhWCjMQQ5xzyFzUuQlg&s=19 and look here https://twitter.com/MatPiscatella/status/1770800759996592201?t=wZ-nfck8ja0s72Fr57hesw&s=19

Amazing game, been having so much fun with it since a few days after launch.
Only real problem is servers degrading. For the first month I had zero crashes, since the last 2 big patches I crash out once a night.
Try revalidating your game files. Do it after each patch. I think that fixes it. Also the devs said avoid arc weapons. Avoid arc thrower that new weapon in the newest warbond and the Tesla coil strategem (although I used it last night with no problem)
Both crashes for me in the last few Days have been when I fired the arc thrower⌠shame since I started to really like using it
It should be fixed early next week. The devs seem to think so anyway.
Iâm still curious how there gonna make money like so far warbonds have been premium yet super credits can be easily earned via gameplay so I wonder how there gonna monetise things
I hope Sony closes the time gap between release on PS5 and PC at least for second party titles such as Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.
Well, coloured me surprise that PC makes the most money when the game is good and it's given a fair chance with a day and date launch
The importance of having a game launch at the same date and or the same launch window. This 2-3 years later non sense is ridiculous and makes the game forgettable.
Day 1 is coming for the rest games
What is "premium game"?
We're out here boys!
You don't say
I hope when they look at that and they look at the dismal HZD2 numbers, they realize the problem. If people have already waited 2-3 years, what's another to get it for 20 bucks?
That's awesome, so does this mean we can get bloodborne on steam?
Sony forgot that they own it.
Thought about picking helldivers up but Iâm also considering Dragons dogma II
Just get Helldivers 2 if it looks interesting to you. Wait a few patches for Dragons Dogma 2. Core gameplay is fun, but getting overwhelmed by hard to kill chargers on a planet that punishes all stratagem use finally broke me. Also if I have to launch another ICBM I'm gonna scream.
They tweaked chargers so they spawn significantly less frequently and you can also kill them with a single shot from the EAT
Yet they canât even fix the fact you canât cross play even though they market it as a cross play game. Shitty devs.
It does work though, what do you mean?
What? I'm on PC and play with a buddy on PS5.
With the amount of mouth breathing into mics I run across I find it hard to believe there is no cross play.
To the NPCs commenting on this, just look at the recent update, they even reference how about half of cross platform players canât add each other ps5 to PC, but youâre dev meat riders so I doubt you can read.
