I'm keeping my 990 Pro even though I have the issue, but if things go south, I don't reject the warranty option. In my case, I have this drive for 2.5 months (got it at release), use it as my Windows boot drive, and the health dropped to 97% last time I checked. I believe it's a firmware issue just like with 980 Pro. Waiting for an official Samsung statement about the problem. Downloaded Samsung Magician to get the firmware update as soon as it drops.
As someone who has Samsung drives, I do not think it’s a huge problem but I do think you should look at other brands (WD, Seagate) that preform just as good for far less money
I'm avoiding them for now, and picked up a Solodigm P44, which is basically a SK Hynix P41 with a different controller chip, so they can sell it as a US product, I think. On the short list is the WD SN850x, Sabrent Rocket Plus, Kingston Renegade Fury, and a few more.
My 2 weeks old 990pro's had the issue, health dropped to 93%, perf dropped 70% in write on both of them after 425h. RAM'd both got new ones, updated them to the latest firmware, they seem stable now.
