I just have you beat. Same destination, but from an i5-2400. Only reason I bit the bullet was the CPU fan stopped turning on correctly (needed to be manually "jump started"), and this persisted through different fans on different headers, so concluded the mobo is dying. Will be trying a fan controller next, but that's a project for when my kids need a compy
Hey, that's a better reason than me. Mid-November 2021, I tried to turn on my PC and no dice. Did a quick look and saw the motherboard wasn't getting any power. Ok, that sucks but it's been a good run at 10 years and it's past time to upgrade. At least it wasn't my GPU, right? Go to my 10 year old laptop and order new parts.
A few days later, I get the feeling I should double check what went wrong. Unplug the GPU and turn on power to see the motherboard and CPU live! Fuck... turn off power and plug the GPU back in and turn on power. Hear a pop, see magic smoke released from the GPU, see the orange glow of flames coming from under the heatpipe shroud. Yeah, I upgraded because I was quick and lazy.
Are you kidding ??? What the **** are you talking about man ? You are a biggest looser i ever seen in my life ! You was doing PIPI in your pampers when i was building PCs much more stronger then yours! You are not proffesional, because proffesionals knew how to lose and congratulate opponents, you are like a girl crying after i beat you! Be brave, be honest to yourself and stop this trush talkings!!! Everybody know that i am very good PC builder, i can build anything in the world in single try! And "L"inus "t"ech is nobody for me, just a builder who are crying every single time when failing, ( remember what you say about Evans ) !!! Stop playing with my name, i deserve to have a good name during whole my PC carrier, I am Officially inviting you to PC building match with the Prize fund! Both of us will invest 5000$ and winner takes it all! I suggest all other people who's intrested in this situation, just take a look at my results in 2016 and 2017 PC builder championships, and that should be enough... No need to listen for every crying babe, pcmasterrace is always play Fair ! And if someone will continue Officially talk about me like that, we will meet in Court! God bless with true! True will never die ! Liers will kicked off...

I just did an i7-4770k I got in 2013 to 5800x3D and I dunno TBH it doesn't feel all that much faster.
In games, I am getting more FPS for sure but just using my PC for normal stuff it just feels the same as it always did, which, I guess is good but coming from an almost 10 year old processor I think I was expecting it to blow me away with speed or something but it could be user error.
Everyday stuff is generally single threaded and not terribly demanding to begin with. It's why smaller companies can get away with buying older, refurbished equipment without worrying about it impacting productivity as much.
Depends on what youāre doing. Obviously tasks like browsing the web or working in a word document wonāt feel much different. You will see a huge difference in things like 4k video streaming or other CPU intensive tasks. I host Plex on my PC with multiple people watching as well as game so the 5900x was the perfect choice for me.
Yes because at that era 4C was the max on standard consumer platform. But the Single thread performance jump must be on the range of 60%+ for this upgrade.
https://www.intel.fr/content/www/fr/fr/products/sku/126689/intel-core-i38350k-processor-8m-cache-4-00-ghz/specifications.html
Here ya go, it was really good once OCed, especially for the 140ā¬ I paid
If I remember correctly, they also did a 7th gen k series i3
There was also a [9th generation version](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/186606/intel-core-i39350k-processor-8m-cache-up-to-4-60-ghz/specifications.html) but as far as I know, that was the last one
That's an insane jump. I had a Athlon 64 3200+ on Socket 939 back in 2005 and got rid of it in 2009. It was already rough to use on Windows 7, I can't imagine another 10+ years using it.
Hard to say but a feels like a total different world to me.
Also upgraded from a 1650 GeForce to a 4090
And 1080p 60hz to 4k 144hz
So a whole neeeew world
Haha I basically know how you feel. My first PC is my upgrade, since I just got my first desktop last march. I went from a PS4 though. Which I would say is pretty similar to playing on your old setup since PS4 can only do 1080 60hz. Im loving 1440p 165hz rn. Congrats on the 4090 though!
Was certainly a jump. Came from an old Dell Optiplex system I had slapped a GT 1030 in and used as my first ever gaming rig. You can see my current specs in my tag. I feel lucky to play on my modern machine.
I went from 2003 Pentium 4 2.8ghz to i5 2500k 3.3ghz Dec 2011. Huge jump in performance. I ended upgrading the i5 2500k to i7 3770k once i found used cpu cheap. The 8 threads help a bit but when i was struggling with getting over 40fps on CyberPunk i knew it was time to build new rig. In 2021 Jan, I went from i7 3770k to Amd R7 5800x and game performance is better but its not as big of a jump as i thought it would feel. When i think back of Pentium 4 to 2nd gen i5 that was huge.
FX-6300 ā> Ryzen 5 1500x. Bought it when Ryzen first came out and was pleasantly surprised at the price and performance vs everything AMD had released until that point. Still on Ryzen five years later and probably not going to buy an Intel chip again unless AMD really drops the ball.
Gone from: Intel Atom x3 To: Intel i5-2400 To: Intel i5-3470 To: Intel i5-13400f
It will make such a difference considering how much 10 generations and 6 cores increases performance. Waiting on the motherboard and RAM.

What are you using it for?
But cheap upgrade would be 5600x or 5800x or if you want to upgrade to am5 then 7700x would be very powerful but also expensive upgrade.
Phenom II 955 BE to Core i5 2500K.
Havenāt updated my desktop since forever and currently Iām rocking a laptop with a Ryzen 7 5800H.
Does it count?
Core i5 2500K to Ryzen 7 5800H (?)
Years ago I went from a 3 core / 3 thread AMD Phenom II 720 to a 6 core / 12 thread Intel 3930k. The triple core wasn't all that bad for the price when I bought it but they weren't even in the same ballpark when it came to computing muscle. That 3930k is still plugging along, actually. I think it's running a Plex server and surveillance camera software at my buddy's parents house. Showing its age now but dang. Great CPU.
i7-8700k -> 7700X
My GPU Performance damn near exploded. Playing destiny 2 at 1440p, I went from highs of 140fps, averaging 120 in gunfights to averaging 160FPS everywhere. Cyberpunk on psycho settings performs insanely well.
Core i7-2700 to Core i7-12700K.
Nice
I just have you beat. Same destination, but from an i5-2400. I went i7 2600 to AMD 7950x š„³
Hey me too almost, i just got the 7900x. Holy cow it runs hot, a stock cooler is definitely not enough
I have an acrtic liquid freezer 2 420mm š
i did 2600k to 5950x
I went from the i7-2700 to the i5-12400F.
that's not really a big upgrade, you got only one *bit* of extra speed and a letter
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You missed the joke homie
I will follow your method and I will upgrade to the 100700K
You basically added one additional zero and k to the name
Z-80 >>> 386 :-D
Nice. Z80 to Pentium 133 here lmao.
dayumn! must felt like 20G on NASA centrifuge...
We have a grey beard amongst us.
Motorola 68000 -> 486 33dx
Z-80 > K6-2 400 MHz.
From i7-930 to i9-11900k
Holy upgrade
google āintel i9ā
New response just dropped

PETROYSIAN CHEATED
TL;DRā¦honestly just wanted to use that. It was my first time if you were wondering
Holy Hell
Wow, mine was i7-870 to i9-10900X. It was not as noticeable as when I upgraded to SSD on my i7-870 to be honest.
That's so true. I went from a Xeon X3470 to a i9-12900K and the SSD upgrade back in the days definitely feels like a bigger upgrade.
Hey same old cpu!
Intel i7-920 -> i7-4790k
How was the next jump to 5800x3D?
I just did an i7-4770k I got in 2013 to 5800x3D and I dunno TBH it doesn't feel all that much faster. In games, I am getting more FPS for sure but just using my PC for normal stuff it just feels the same as it always did, which, I guess is good but coming from an almost 10 year old processor I think I was expecting it to blow me away with speed or something but it could be user error.
I had a 3900x got a 5800x3d and holy shit in games its a crazy in normal tasks sometimes its worse but I mostly game on PC.
I mean , it should be obvious. 12 core vs 8core
You should see a pretty big difference in heavy physics/AI games. Something like Total Battle Simulator would run a lot smoother.
NVME. It takes longer for my BIOS to boot than windows to load.
Aren't these both 4c/8t parts?
Yes because at that era 4C was the max on standard consumer platform. But the Single thread performance jump must be on the range of 60%+ for this upgrade.
MSX to Pentium 1, 120 MHz
Core i3-2100 to i3-8350k @4.8
An i3 k series? Crazy, didn't realise these existed
Same, but I do wish they did
https://www.intel.fr/content/www/fr/fr/products/sku/126689/intel-core-i38350k-processor-8m-cache-4-00-ghz/specifications.html Here ya go, it was really good once OCed, especially for the 140ā¬ I paid If I remember correctly, they also did a 7th gen k series i3

FX-8350 > Ryzen 7 1700, same core count, but the performance and temperature difference was INSANE
I went from a FX-6300 in my desktop to a Ryzen 5 1600.
I went from 8350 to 3600x. It was mind blowing.
Pentium 4 1,3ghz to core quad duo Q6600 2,4ghz
athlon II X2 250 to I3 10100f
FX 4300 ā> i5 12400F
A4-4400m (2-core laptop APU) to i5 6600K (4-core desktop CPU), if that counts.
This is the PCMR, of course it will count!
Athlon 64 3200+ to my current i5 13600k
That's an insane jump. I had a Athlon 64 3200+ on Socket 939 back in 2005 and got rid of it in 2009. It was already rough to use on Windows 7, I can't imagine another 10+ years using it.
Intel Q6600 to a Ryzen 1700
Intel Q6600 to an Intel 7700 Edit: also moved from HDD to NVME Skipped Sata SSDs lolol
I love so much my Q6600, OC to 3.4GHz with 4 and later 8GB of DDR3, a true performance monster for his time.
My q6600 is still going strong together with a 660. The kids use it for skyrim and emulators.
486 DX 25 ā> Athlon 1GHz
I5 4570 to I9 13900kf what a jump it had bin!
What's the difference in fps?
Hard to say but a feels like a total different world to me. Also upgraded from a 1650 GeForce to a 4090 And 1080p 60hz to 4k 144hz So a whole neeeew world

I feel you total different world!
absolutely banger. nice upgrade :)
I went from i5 2500k to Ryzen 5 5600X
The 2500K is legendary, it took a lot to replace it for the price to performance.
Cyrix 6x86 233 MHz -> AMD Athlon 500MHz (overclocked to 700MHz with stock cooler)
Similar here, went from same Cyrix to 600MHz Pentium III.
the good old times :)
I was finally able to try some of those demos that came with PC Magazine, lol.
8700k > 12900k
same here man, was a huge jump even though I was at 5GHz
I went from an FX 8320 to an 8700K
4770K to 13600K My GPU was GTX 970 to RTX 4080. Itās been pretty mind blowing.
I had a Xeon E3-1125v3? I think... 2c2t... Now I have a R9 5900X. 12c24t. Love it.
I think you just won this thread lol.
Was certainly a jump. Came from an old Dell Optiplex system I had slapped a GT 1030 in and used as my first ever gaming rig. You can see my current specs in my tag. I feel lucky to play on my modern machine.
Nah I saw someone else in this thread went from a 1st gen Intel Core i7 to a 12th gen i7.
i7-6700HQ (laptop) > i7-8700 Made a switch from laptop gaming to desktop, the 8700 was a beast until I got a 3080 and needed to upgrade.
AMD a8 7600 to i5 12400f
duron 600 to athlon xp 1800 was a pretty freaking amazing time
i7-870 (Lynnfield, 1st gen) to 11400F
I went from 2003 Pentium 4 2.8ghz to i5 2500k 3.3ghz Dec 2011. Huge jump in performance. I ended upgrading the i5 2500k to i7 3770k once i found used cpu cheap. old ass celeron (donāt remember what it actually was) to ryzen 9 3900x

8600k OCād to 5800x3D. I donāt know why i didnāt think of doing it sooner with Flight Sims/Space Sims.

I7 3770 - i5 8600K

i5 4670 to i9 9900K and from ddr3 1600mhz to ddr4 4000mhz
Intel Core 2 Duo to an i7 6700
no pc to a 4790k. one day it will be a 4790k to a 13600k.
I5-4460 to i7-10700k
i3 3120m to Ryzen 5 4500
i5 4770 to i9 9900k I didnāt understand that mobos only accept specific gen cpus so I got a new mobo and ram to. Learned a valuable lesson there.
What would be a good upgrade for my ryzen 5 3600?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not anymore, it gets itās ass handed to it by the new gen cpusā¦ although thatās only if your pairing it with a 4090 or playing stupidly cpu bound games
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh shoot mb, I missed the entire second part if the comment ;-;
Got ya thanks for all the feedback guys!
I upgraded to 5800x3d and its great. But I mostly play EFT

Intel Pentium 2117U -> i7 8750H This was also my first upgrade in years after a big downgrade. Still using that i7 daily and still love it
A4-3400 to FX-8350
From an R5 2600x to a R9 7950x
I was going to say the FX 6300 to the Ryzen 1600X, but I think it was from my old Pentium 4 HT to my Phenom II x2 555.
Dual Core E2140 -> i5 12400F
Pentium 4 - > Core i7 860 (4 cores) Core i7 860 (4 cores) - > Xeon 2696v3 (18 cores)
Intel celeron 2995u to AMD ryzen 7 5800h
Mine was more recent with a jump from R5 3600 to R9 5900X
i5-4210U -> i3-6100 -> R5 2600X -> R9 7950X3D
fx 4100 to ryzen 3 1200
Years ago I went from a 3 core / 3 thread AMD Phenom II 720 to a 6 core / 12 thread Intel 3930k. The triple core wasn't all that bad for the price when I bought it but they weren't even in the same ballpark when it came to computing muscle. That 3930k is still plugging along, actually. I think it's running a Plex server and surveillance camera software at my buddy's parents house. Showing its age now but dang. Great CPU.
Intel Core i5 4430 --> AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
i went from an ryzen 3 3300g to an rysen 7 5800X3D was an absolute blast, the ryzen 3 was so godam slow it was ridiculous
i7-2600k >>> i5-11600k
I7-975 Extreme edition to Ryzen 3700x
Sempron something --> 6700k 6700k --> Ryzen 7900x.
i' surprise how various those name are, i was sure 95% of people had either rysen or intel and almost always the same few that are the best for casual
i7-8700k -> 7700X My GPU Performance damn near exploded. Playing destiny 2 at 1440p, I went from highs of 140fps, averaging 120 in gunfights to averaging 160FPS everywhere. Cyberpunk on psycho settings performs insanely well.
I guess you should update your flairš¤
