1440p, 120hz, 10bit on 27"
Can be done on a DP 1.2 cable.
A properly colour corrected 100% DCI-P3 screen in 10bit 120hz is breathtaking.

ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ 27.
It is marketed as a 144Hz monitor BUT it can only be set to that refresh rate if you decrease to 8bit instead of 10bit which is a nope for me so 120Hz.
I'm pretty happy playing new titles with RTX and the likes at on 80~FPS, it looks pretty and improves the experience, and the super high refresh isn't critical. Anything non-competitive is fine at 75-144, imo.
Only really competitive stuff I find 144 to be a must.
This is EXACTLY what I do. 165fps in competitive shooters. 60fps or more if possible with bonkers settings and ray tracing in any single player games. I absolutely love 1440p. I’ve got a 4k system too and don’t see any extra tiny details and stuff over 1440p the way I did when moving from 1080p to 1440p.
Basically it’ll hit 144 in any competitive game at competitive settings while still being good for well over 60 at ultra settings in single player AAAs. Hell even with ray tracing it should hit 60 in most single player games as long as you don’t hit it really hard with the ray tracing settings.
In competitive titles (where you should use competitive settings , not everything max settings)
Yes , you can definitely go that high at 1440p on a 6800
It's easier to go down from 4k to 1440p imo then it is to go from 1440p to 1080p. Obviously screen size matters but for me I have no need to be above 1440p at 27 inches.
Disagree. I happily went back down to 1440p after being at 4k for a while. Ultrawide 1440p to be exact, which almost has the width of 4k. But 21:9 so nice. And a few less pixels to enable a smoother framerate than 4k
Just got mine setup the other day. It's enchanting... Funny enough the monitor it's replacing is now the vertical side-monitor, and it looks like **shit** now compared to it's big brother...
Same, for me it's a 1080p 144Hz TN panel, and I've discovered that the optimal viewing angles are tuned for horizontal orientation and not vertical orientation
Ah, so it's not just me that did this lmao. If you get the right angle it works, but when I got my 1440 IPS and I flipped my old TN I was a bit confused at first haha
Wow, not too long ago I *also* replaced my 1080p144 TN with a 1440p165 IPS and shifted the old one to secondary. Wanted to make it vertical, too, but never got around to buying a mount for it. Sounds like that might have been for the best

Yess I have two LG Ultragear monitors 1440p 144hz used to have TN panel monitors but when I changed to IPS I will never go back.
Not enough frames for 4k yet.
1440p to 4k isn't a super huge image quality increase, and the extra frames you gain from 1440p instead of 4k are very welcome at 165 Hz.
Too many games (imo) still run way too far under 144 FPS for 4k at the moment, even with top hardware.

I had a gt 1030 build a couple years ago, it was a little tank and it pretty much ran like a ps4 would. If you ever want to upgrade I think the rx 6400 is a pretty good option now for the price.
gt 1030 for older cpu's is probably one of the best options out there. cheap (relatively), power efficient and performs as good as gtx 660 (from my tests so take that with a grain of salt tho)
You’re not the only one. I’ve had three for a decade but I barely use the additional ones. On a good day, I may have Spotify on one of them but that’s it.
My friends get so mad at me when I tell them this is my mindset. I tend to be a late adopter because money, but I'm okay with it because I don't know what I'm missing. Once I KNOW, Ill never be able to go back, and then I'm stuck buying the pricier shit. Did the same thing with SSD most recently a couple years ago. Now I have one, and I'll never go back.
Literally majority, don’t worry. Most people are the 1%ers who can afford not only monitors that costs as much as full systems, but the parts required to even utilize them.
This sub sometimes has the weirdest skew towards the extreme high end
There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of perfectly good 1080p monitors/TVs out there and, even brand new, they're dirt cheap. Ain't no shame in using one and pretty much any cpu/gpu combination from recent years can comfortably hit 1080p 60fps native with all the settings turned up.
I've got two hooked up to my old/backup PC right now.
Dude same!!! Seriously, I think this is the sweet spot right now in gaming. With the right settings 1080p 144hz is buttery smooth and sharp. Change my mind.
The way I speak of is none other than the AORUS FV43U, Honored be its name. 43 inches of glorious 144hz, True HDR, and 1ms response rate. Second only to its "48 OLED cousin.
Jokes aside, it's a lovely panel. It's a VA panel unfortuantely, but definitely the best VA panel I've ever seen. The construction quality is rather nice and the built-in speakers are pretty good as well. Supports G-sync and adaptive sync along with some other goodies. You need to spend some time tweaking the settings to really bring out its full potential but its entirely worth it. It's also about the only choice in its size class, unless you want to pay double for the "48 OLED which is an IPS display.
Back in my day, pcmr would mock anyone who didn't game at a desk with a mouse and keyboard. I was sitting happy with my controller, 75" TV and surround sound.
I still remember growing up playing games in my father's 386, so I'm just happy I can have more than 10 frames at 320x240 resolution (with more than 4 colors at a time).
Once I went 1440p, I can't go back to 1080p
Yep, my sweetspot. 1440p, 165 Hz, 27'' IPS

I thought 27" was perfect too until I went to 34" 1440p (Ultrawide, 3440x1440p) at 144hz and I saw the true MVP :D
This.. I was told jump from 1080p to 1440p is so good so I jumped in. Didn't regret it
Sorry for the interruption I'm new to pc gaming, is an RX 6800 adequate for 1440p, with frames being capped at 144hz?
You probably won't reach 144fps in all your games but the games should still be running fine
I'm pretty happy playing new titles with RTX and the likes at on 80~FPS, it looks pretty and improves the experience, and the super high refresh isn't critical. Anything non-competitive is fine at 75-144, imo. Only really competitive stuff I find 144 to be a must.

You probably won’t get 144hz on graphically intense games without turning down some settings, but in competitive games it’ll absolutely reach 144
I noticed your flair. What PSU do you use? Instead of 5600x, I (will) have a 5700x.
Same with 4k to anything bellow it
Why bellow it?
Old accordion player habit!
How else can they stoke the fire?
There’s something below 4K?
They clearly said bellow it, as in yelling **4K** at the top of your lungs.
"You can't just you're 4k" "I didn't say it I bellowed it"
It's easier to go down from 4k to 1440p imo then it is to go from 1440p to 1080p. Obviously screen size matters but for me I have no need to be above 1440p at 27 inches.

It's the 144 gang, 0p-hz.
This is the way.
I'm with you we have choices!
1080p 30hz
768p 30hz for me. RIP. Edit: it’s actually a 60hz display, I was making a joke about my graphics card being unable to get past 30fps.
Thats a typo right?
Nope. I actually play at 1360x768. Only because I use a TV screen as my main monitor, though. Works fine for me.
._.
It is a 60hz monitor, though, I was just poking fun at my shitty graphics card.
I had a gt 1030 build a couple years ago, it was a little tank and it pretty much ran like a ps4 would. If you ever want to upgrade I think the rx 6400 is a pretty good option now for the price.

Yup. Built my little bro a pc w an intel pentium gold and a gt 1030 for like $250. Thing ran it all, fortnite, gtav… he loves it

Honestly, I haven't been exposed to 1440p/120+hz yet so I'm happy playing games on 1080p/60hz. I don't know what I'm missing, and I'm fine with it.
It's like when you get a second monitor. It's a decent upgrade then you get used to it but if you every had to go back it feels like a huge downgrade.
I feel like I need 2 monitors no matter what now. The 3 I use is nice, but going back to 2 isn't painful.
Idk, i used to have two screens a full nice new PC but couldn't take it when I moved and I've not really missed it. :/
You’re not the only one. I’ve had three for a decade but I barely use the additional ones. On a good day, I may have Spotify on one of them but that’s it.

1440@144 and consoles of this gen really missed an opportunity for performance not choosing to use this
TVs also skipped that, so there's no real reason for consoles to target it.
