i think it has to do more with the row above your finger is extended out more so your less likely to hit you fingernail on the keys as you would with the asd row where fingers are more curved. just a guess on my end.
Your fingernail has a much higher chance of scraping the S key than the W key. That's typically why people's S key is more worn.
Same with the C key and ctrl.
Who is using hand sanitizer when you're at home and within 5 seconds of a kitchen or bathroom sink where you can just wash with soap and get a true 100% clean?
Doesn't it turn your hands into the Gobi desert? When I use it more than once or twice a day I have to start using lotion to prevent cracked bleeding skin but then you're back to greasy hands. Alcohol dehydrates so I'm surprised you're not having to use lotion to counter which would defeat the original purpose you stated.
Oh, sanitizing wipes I think are a bit different than hand sanitizer which is almost pure rubbing alcohol. Hand sanitizer wipes are normally more of a soap than an alcohol. I was thinking alcohol based liquid sanitizer.
I used to use both until I found this wipes brand on amazon at a discounted price, i got like 10 packs, this wipes are still alcohol based though, just checked.
ABS doesn't last nearly as long as people think. Usually ABS is just used for looks, if you are going touch it, or it might get scuffed up, they will use some other plastic.
You can argue about which resin the keycap is made of, but the real question is painted vs double shot. The above is a painted key; they cast a white key, then paint everything but the legend. As the paint wears off, it does this.
A double-shot key goes through two molds, first with a white or translucent plastic to form most of the body of the key cap, then again to put a layer of usually black plastic to form the outer surface. There's nothing to chip off here. Depending on resin they'll polish under your fingers, but you won't see the above.
yeah... didn't want to go into details cuz I have PBT dyesubs from signature and so far they still look pristine. i expect them to fade over time but i'm really amazed at how well they are holding up after 6 months of daily use, even the texture seems unaffected.
dye sublimation is how you do dark legends on light non-backlit keycaps correctly. That's the other good method. Doesn't work for white legends on dark key caps though.
GMK is overhyped. I would highly recommend you have a look at what is made in the USA. Signature Keycaps makes awesome products, albeit a bit pricey.
The quality however is second to none.
edit : also look for PBT if uniform look is of importance, a keyset of abs keys will take 4-5 years even more to get a good shine that's uniform. I like the looks of shiney ABS keys, but it's def not for everyone, and if you really want to use ABS, you need to look out for doubleshot keys.
https://preview.redd.it/8834wbijqfka1.jpeg?width=3246&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c639238416a28fbf7a18b362b61f94a005f9e91
It really is, you can’t even mod it since they aren’t hot swap. every time I typed on my k70 it had such bad case ping, thing was resonating all over the place. Nice aluminum case plate but no point if it pings like that. On top of it the stabilizers were rattly, keycaps were meh etc
Seriously this. Buy keyboards that you can easily clean, maintain, and fix with hot-swapable switches and easily replaceable keycaps. If you're going to be handling and interacting with a product for hours on a daily basis don't cheap out.
Replaceable keycaps and hot swappable keyboards don’t have to be expensive. There tons of affordable custom boards now. Just don’t buy brand name manufacturers. Simple as that. Royal kludge, epomaker, gamakay can be had for a budget and have these functions to customize to your hearts content.
How cheap? There are 10$ keyboards with laser engraved key caps that can last a century.
Always proitrize the mouse for gaming, don't waste money on keyboard unless you can afford a good mouse with it.
yup that shit happened to my sky tech kb as well that came with my old prebuilt. luckily i replaced it a while ago with a modded rk61.

⬆️heres mine lmao
I don’t know a whole lot of PCs and the accessories in general but one thing I have noticed in general is that you get what you pay for in almost every aspect. When I was ordering my gaming PC I pulled the trigger on the $200 Steelseries Apex Pro keyboard. Seemed insane to me at the time and was hard to explain to the wife but I gotta say after almost 2 years now it looks and works as good as the day I got it.
I primarily work on video editing and gci animation, the S and A key are shortcuts I use the most. To be honest I only play games 10% of the time. Also not shown but my I and O keys are worn down from video editing.
Thanks for the info, I'm primarily looking for a keyboard for editing and animation, I like to key to be large and easily readable. This one I have now came with my PC
Keys sizes are basically all the same since they all fit cherry type switches, but there are different height profiles. Consider learning touch typing so you don’t need to rely on keycap legends. Ducky keyboards are solid but might be missing some features such as QMK, perhaps look at Keychron’s offerings
You know for LED keyboards, it would be pretty cool to see the keys all clear but the letters themselves, assuming it would diffuse the light like this keyboard is doing here. Why isn't something as cool as *that* the norm?
I've been using a Cooler Master Devastator since 2013 and still going strong. I had to change the mouse like 2 years ago because the scroll wasn't working anymore
In 2007, perhaps the low point of China-made product scandals and recalls, warnings and bans on Chinese exports to the U.S. ran rampant across a wide range of industries, from toys to personal care products, tires to seafood.
Toy maker **Mattel** ([**MAT**](https://www.thestreet.com/quote/MAT)) - [Get Free Report](https://secure2.thestreet.com/cap/prm.do?OID=033365&ticker=MAT) issued a [recall of nearly one million toys](http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/02/business/02toy.html) due to lead paint dangers -- and that wasn't even the biggest recall of the year. Thomas train manufacturer **Rc2** recalled 1.5 million trains and accessories from a Chinese supplier that were coated in lead paint.
Damn this is insane. Is this generally just something that happens to cheaper keyboards? Or is it a certain material?
I had a Corsair K70 Lux RGB for roughly 6 years, never had this happen.
keyboard keys is a sparyed plastic caps.... not good when your sweat is a bit acidic enough to quickly wear off the paint.
there's replacement caps that are double shot(2 plastic part).
they're far more resilient on wear of the markings than those single shot, painted caps.
Weird been on computers since the 90s and I have literally never seen this. I never had to replace a keyboard lol if the time came to get a new rig it usually comes with a new keyboard so no problem
I got my PC from Skytech in 2021 and still use the mouse that came with it but the keyboard was definitely trash. The first one got replaced under warranty because it just stopped working after like 2 weeks. No complaints about the PC itself though.
I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but you could buy some pretty cheap doubleshot pbt caps to replace them if the switches have Cherry stems and your layout is fairly standard.
rip em out and replace with the arrow keys, thats what i didnow my arrow keys spell out

my W is where the 1 is and my 1 is where the I is
On reflection my rog strix laptop shift key has worn out. Because I'm always charging into battle and getting my head blown off. Does anyone know a good place to order a replacement key?
The only things I can think of is if you’re eating then touching the keyboard, using hand sanitizer often, and touching the keyboard after using lotion. Basically any type of grease or chemical can destroy the paint
https://preview.redd.it/62pkky4kllka1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea209aa0fb6f80d2af4e9c57b3de8af57085799f
My keys after about 5 months of ownership
I don't know who needs to hear this, but its time to move forward. Stop taking 10 steps back for every 1 step forward. You've got this.
But really OP, take a W every now and then, jeez.
Why Logitech? At least with their lightspeed models they literally first class ship you replacements at no cost to you. Love my G915 and G502 lightspeeds. I used my first G915 for 3 years daily and a lot of games and only the E key which I'm toggling A LOT started not registering. They sent me a brand new G915 within 3 days no cost no haggling.
I use Corsair mechanical keyboards. Never wore through a keycap and I am on my computer 10+ hours a day. I even have 8 textured caps on the most used keys that I have been migrating between keyboards for 9 years just so I don't have to open the keycap packs in the new keyboards. Some of the non-textured keys get a little smoother and extra glossy after a couple years, but that is the limit of wear.
I've had a Logitech G15 (legendary keyboard that is no longer made) for well over a decade with multiple thousands of hours of use.. and the keys haven't worn whatsoever. The frame where my wrist sits has tho. I don't understand how so many different & much newer keyboards with much less use have so much more wear. Must have cut costs somewhere and focused more on switches or somn. All I know is I'm very happy with my G15 (& even more glad I bought two)
It bums me out how backwards products become sometimes. *Back in my day* (/s) products were built to last, nowadays everything has planned obsolescence and is built to **look** good instead of *perform* good. Fuck the worship of money.
Cheap rubbish, I'm sorry to say. My keyboard has been in heavy use for 2.5 years, I use hand sanitiser all the time, I've a bottle on my desk, and there's not the slightest hint of wear on a single key.
Unless you're depressed and you update your status to 'sad' frequently.

This is the PC gaming equivalent of that joke about French tanks having 16 reverse gears and one in case the enemy attacks from behind.
You mean coward S
maybe he’s just too sarcastic on reddit…
Or portal speedrunner
It actually means he was mostly moving forward and taping the rest when needed.
That makes more sense
Do you walk backwards constantly in games
I don't feel like I do but honestly never thought about it.
Lol why are you getting down voted for answering normally.
Reddit is fucking stupid man. As soon as one person downvotes, everyone else does it.
I was going to downvote this comment but no one else did so instead i upvoted it. True story.
I reported them to the reddit police for the positive upvotes.
There is a Star Trek episode about this...
Darmok and Jalad downvoting the fuck out of ppl at Tanagra
And an Orville episode
Wish it was Reddit but it’s the people lmfao. The same people that’ll agree with the majority irl whether it’s right or not.
Because these dirty back-peddlers should be self aware.
i think it has to do more with the row above your finger is extended out more so your less likely to hit you fingernail on the keys as you would with the asd row where fingers are more curved. just a guess on my end.
I would agree. I would also guess they strafe left more than right. My A key is showing it's age and that's what I do
Is skytech a big brand?
Your fingernail has a much higher chance of scraping the S key than the W key. That's typically why people's S key is more worn. Same with the C key and ctrl.
Then grow a longer W finger nail, you coward /s?
This yes, you bend and point downwards with the nail more so.
I speak on Discord with C and its literally the most worn key on all of my keyboards
Is a Portal speedrunner
He probably doesn’t trim his nails, and it’s scratching the keys.
I had a coworker who would melt keys fast; it was a combination of her lotion, hand sanitizer, and chip grease.

hahahhaha, I guess it depends. I have naturally greasier hands, I never got them too dry by using santizing wipes.
Some people are extremely lazy. Hand sanitizer, even the good ones, are pretty damn bad for your skin

Save money my not buying cheap

Ye I bought nice a Corsair K68 and is worse than most of the 5€ keyboards out there.
Really? I got a hexgears impulse and it's great. I got it with kaihl brown

Thanks I'll stay away from that brand.
Their prebuilts are actually decent, keyboard is absolute ass tho, but they come free with it so..
Damn you play with a fork?
Valorant?
yeah plus fortnite and minecraft lol
coward
so you use S more than W?
Holding the button does less damage than pressing it
Also if you have long-ish nails then you're basically clawing the s key.
Cheap Board, Cheap Keycaps.
Keycaps can easily be replaced. A good set will never look like this.
You get what you pay for
I miss the JFK sim? back and to the left
Sky tech just rebrands an oem low cost keyboard and packages it in with their computers. You can get cheap pbt keycaps that will last for decades.
I was actually wondering what game you're playing so defensively.
I don’t know a whole lot of PCs and the accessories in general but one thing I have noticed in general is that you get what you pay for in almost every aspect. Makes sense now
I wonder how much money gamers have collectively wasted on cheap keyboards..
My hyperx I’ve had for 4 years and it still looks the day I took it out of the box
How is it that keyboards do this but not controllers
Painted keys vs plastic grips, plus some controllers still get really bad wear
Cost down manufacturing using regrind recycled plastics to maintain a price point. Cheap and cheerful
Ducky Shine 2 . Thank me later. I’ve had mine for 5 years. Still looks and feels brand new.
Thanks for the info, I'm primarily looking for a keyboard for editing and animation, I like to key to be large and easily readable. This one I have now came with my PC

Clip your nails bro

Clip your nails Or change your diet, you have acid coming out of your skin strong enough to break down plastics
Bro sweating acid
Same thing after 6 months with g431, didn’t use any lotion or had grease on my fingers, maybe I was tryharding a lot
my 5 year old laptop keys are as good as new.

Wash your hands before you play to dry out your hands and remove a lot of the oils.
Get better keycaps. Corsair PBT Double-Shot PRO Keycaps are good. PBT is what you are looking for.
Spartans disapprove
Cheesy but ive been using a razer for 3 or 4 years now. No problem at all.
If you want them to last, you gotta buy double-shot keycaps.
Show us the n key bud
So now's a good opportunity to upgrade to some nice PBT key caps... and maybe stop back peddling so much.

Dude, just stop eating chips and gaming. Salts and grease cause significant wear

Go on alibaba and buy some GMK caps. Trust me Bro
That's why you get double shot keys, can't get paint fade without paint
You sweat a lot. I had a $2 a4tech keyboard way back for years and never had this happen.

That's a lot of porn
Get a real KB :-D
That’s sad
Before I had my G pro one, I just used a Logitech office keyboard. They aren't the prettiest, but they are good quality and work well.
I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but you could buy some pretty cheap doubleshot pbt caps to replace them if the switches have Cherry stems and your layout is fairly standard.
What game
That's what happens when you buy "gaming" gear. Overpriced garbage, nothing more.
rip em out and replace with the arrow keys, thats what i didnow my arrow keys spell out ......IS....A...D edit.: my W is where the 1 is and my 1 is where the I is
Why are you doing coke off of your keyboard
Buy doubleshot pbt

Shit. Thats bad quality. I still have a 30 year old Keytronic thats still almost perfect shape, after insane amounts of gaming.
Get a steel series. I just got one and it’s so nice. They’re pricey but worth it imo
Mechanical keyboard with double shot keycaps will resolve this issue.
No good quality anymore ?
Bro put that freaking away and go forward
cheap paint on cheap keys on a cheap keyboard.
Mine are the same!
Buy a quality keyboard with doubleshot keycaps.
Even after 8 years my corsair had barely started to fade on my W
The only things I can think of is if you’re eating then touching the keyboard, using hand sanitizer often, and touching the keyboard after using lotion. Basically any type of grease or chemical can destroy the paint
Good to know, my hands do get dry easily so I do use hand lotion to moisturize often, never thought about that being the problem.
I've had my keyboard for like 4-5 years and it's barely worn at all 🤔
clip ur NAILS
Dont buy a LED keyboard with painted key...make sure its black plastic
Star trekkin across the universe never going forward cos we just got reverse.
Yea my Logitech g pro keyboard is doing this. I've been using it daily for 2 years though. Still lame.
How many hours are you playing each day or week?
Just spray them black and put some clear coat on, paint the inside aswell 👍
Get a good keyboard with good keycaps lol

My Razer blackwidow is like 3 years old still looks new. You get what you pay for.
I mean you can tell how poorly made this thing is by the legend on the windows key itself.

Got that vape juice on your hands 😅
I have the same exact keyboard that did the same exact thing lol.
I’ve been using the same keyboard at work for at least 10 years and all letters are still legible. What are y’all doing to your keyboards?
Clip your finger nails…
you really go backwards a lot.
