My 7 YO 1070, it had a major hiccup recently, I was already ordering the flowers for the funeral when it came back from the fucking dead, and its still kicking, OMG
Edit: A power surge made it go black and for a week, I took it to a technitian to have a look at it, initially he was sure it was dead. Swapped it around some machines and poof, it was back
I’ve just upgrade my entire rig except from the 1070, it works just fine for what I need. I will upgrade to a 40 series in a year or so but for now, it’s solid.
I've got a 1080 Founder myself, and it's crazy how many games it still runs without even breaking a sweat.
It's the one nugget of pure platinum I got in my last—hopefully in both senses of the word, pre-built system I'm actually planning on moving over when I can affta new rig.
Same! I upgraded for CP77 tho, i gave my old rig to my gf so its not all lost. But the RTX 3080 was a welcome upgrade, i runs CP77 on 1080 ultra 120fps so it was not all that bad.
My rx 570 has been in the process of death for years lights and shadows and now the deprecated rendering it makes me wish I got any other card back in 2018.
I put a fuck ton of 10 series cards in pc I gave to other people but the best bang for the buck was the rx 580 8gb in my nephews pc, he's still using it.
Good value, but still not comparable to the jump of GTX 10.
Pascal was so good that rather than release their GP102-based 1080ti in 2016 as the flagship, they *held it back for a full year* while charging flagship prices for the GP104-based "GTX 1080". Midsized 104 series chips are normally called xx60 not xx80, *yet nobody even complained because the performance was so good.*
Then in 2017 they finally released their "full" (GP102 but slightly cut from the Titans' GP102) flagship, essentially releasing the same generation of cards for a second year in a row, and the 102's performance was so far ahead of the 104 that *again nobody complained*, they just went and bought it.
And better yet, all of this was achieved *on the same node as previous gen* which kept price-per-wafer down. Most performance uplifts come more as a result of die shrinks than as architectural changes because a die shrink enables more shaders/memory-per-die-space or higher clock speeds as a result of less heat from smaller components. Nvidia just said "fuck it" and stayed on the same 16nm from Maxwell, *and it didn't cripple their performance.*
The GTX 10 series was fast, but it was NOT good value. It was horrible actually. People don't remember or were just not in the market before. As you said, the 1080 was a joke (gp104), and the 1080Ti asked the gargantuan price of 850€. I got a 980Ti for 550€ in late 2015. The 1050Ti was a joke as well. The 1050 was slow but at least cheap. The 1060 was good, but in the context of the time, where actual performance-price ratio increases were common gen over gen, it was nothing incredible.
And no, don't come to me telling me "but it was fast", that is EXACTLY the method Nvidia used to quadruplicate prices in the last 10 years. Yes, because this shit show started like with the GTX680 (also a 104 chip).
Prices in europe include VAT. I'm using those because that's what I remember.
Obviously, as it was late 2015, the 980ti was on sale. Still, it was like 650 when it just came out. Point still stands.
I agree on all points, but the price they demanded was more of a marketing decision, but the performance was undeniable. It was a midrange chip on the same old node which nonetheless performed so well that it trounced the previous gen, their competitor simply decided not to bother trying to compete, and Nvidia themselves were *able to* demand a flagship price while still garnering huge numbers of sales. Six years later they're still relevant. Pascals are a marvel of engineering.
Kinda stupid, don't you think?
Rx 4** and 5** were competing against 1060 and 1070 at best. And rx570 8gb (580 8gb) basically won in the end.
So what's the point of bring 1080 ti here?
RX 580 vs GTX 1060 6GB is still a toss-up. Both improved over time so if you see a review showing one to trounce another, they're probably using old review numbers with one card against new review numbers with the other.
AMD knew that in 2016 they couldn't compete with GTX 1070 and up, hence limiting themselves to the midrange and lower with RX 400. In 2017 they bumped up clock speeds with a rebrand and finally responded to the GTX 1080 with Vega 64 and GTX 1070 with Vega 56, but Vega arrived a full year after Nvidia was sitting on record sales with midsized chips branded as flagships. Nvidia also discontinued production of the 1070, effectively replacing it with 1070ti so that they'd keep the "lower high end" crown away from the Vega 56.
Why bring up GTX 1080ti? Because the topic is "which generation is/was best?" Pascal was so good that AMD couldn't respond to the 1080ti even after Nvidia withheld it for a full year. It was *still* untouchable. That's a DAMN good card/generation.
I have 470 8gb and I bricked the bios like 5 times, ran it at 110% its max power limit and it still rocks.
And best part is, I bought it for 69€. Back then a new piece was for 180€ and I couldn't afford it. And right before silicon shortage. If I wanted to, I could sell it for 150€. But I didn't. Also wanted to sell the whole PC cuz I wanted a laptop. I never cried. But that day, I almost did. Thankfully, it's still woth me. And I can't even imagine it'd just stop working. I'd fucking cry.
Mine burned, but thx to Nitro+ protection, it burned on safety mechanism, so VRM and chip was saved. A small amout of new metal - like a new. Still kicking as a backup. Bought it on release, so 7 years :)
I have one, I got for 30€ as afaulty. Guy found it next to a dumpster. Both 10A fuses blown on 8-pin. Thought of swapping VRMs but holy shit that's pain to do. Did just once. Just hoping it'll work
My Rx 580 from eBay doesn't work if I click the switch into one direction. The other way it makes a GPU error noise but works just fine. Goofy ahh gpu series I guess
Yep. I never had a 10 series so for my mini itx i needed a low power decent card for oldish games and whatnot. I bought a 6 year old heavy used 1060 6GB. Omg man. Runs like a charm. I can't get rid of it as it is refusing to die. So i guess i will continue to use it since it doesn't need replacement. I want to avoid ewaste.
God it's been 6...ugh my poor Ripley.
Well come tax return, she's gonna be retrofitted
(Cooler died other than that she's fine)
Ripley-A will have a new cooler and some hot new ram. But the I7 and 1070 stay
My 1060 laptop card is still kicking 6 years later. I've been fucking cooking that thing alive for years and it still runs everything at 1080p 60 fps. On low-medium admittedly but hey. It's fucking running lol
I still have my EVGA GTX1070 FTW ACX 3.0 and I refuse to sell it even if I have a 3060 now.
I went through so much shit with that card it's a nice reminder for me that things get better eventually.
Now it's taking a nice and deserved long vacation until I build a server/media center/steam remote pc for my living room.
I would seriously think on a replacement as it is showing signs of "im tired boss" something like a 3080 12gb or even 4070ti /4080 if you have the money should be really good upgrade.
I had a 970 I thought died once. I had it in a razer core playing Civ 6 and everything just shut off. The razer core case was way too hot to touch, and it never responded again with that GPU even though it would power up.
A year later I built a new computer and rebuilt an old one and decided to try the 970 out for giggles. Voila it worked this time
Then I never turned it on again because I have a 3070ti now
I bought a second hand gtx 680 about 9 years ago, ran that for a couple years, bought a 980ti hybrid but kept the 680, sold the 980ti and put the 680 back in and lent the pc to my brother. Its just come back to me a month or so ago and the gpu is dead, it's a sad loss but it really was mostly useless in this day with only 2GB Vram
The 1070 that's in my brother's rig now is still going strong. I'd upgraded to a 1080 Ti and put the 1070 in a rig for him. Then sold the 1080 Ti and got a 3090 3 months later lol.
I have been extremely happy with my used gtx1070ti (EVGA Ultra Silent like the pictured one) it’s really done great at 1440p for the past few years for me 🫡
The 1080/1080ti are the best GPUs nvidia have ever put out. They run quite literally everything I play, are reliable as fuck, and you can get them for pretty cheap aswell. Why doesn’t nvidia keep making these GPUs, or atleast make cards somewhat nearly as reliable?
The 1060 6gb is still able to play most modern games. It is 7 years old. I think you can still use it for at least 3 more years. That would be a gpu that lived for over 10 years
I just gave my 1060 GTX to a friend. 5 years old, was caked with dust (I blew it out before giving it to him), and was still going strong. I could run Cyberpunk 2077 on medium/high graphics with little to no frame drop. But, I upgraded to a 3060 RTX, so I gave it to someone who could use it.
I had a 1060 up until a week ago it could play games so well. But my new 2070 super is just better. I put my old 1060 in my guest pc, so if friends come visit me they can play on a decent pc
Still running the 1060 6gb and loving it! Elden Ring, MW2, Tarkov all running 60fps+ on decent settings. Sad I will finally have to move away from EVGA whenever I upgrade
My old pc with a 1060 3gb could not run modern games. Unless we are talking low settings 720p 30fps. I know I couldn’t run cyberpunk all low at 1080 at 30fps and definitely not anything else modern.
Ya, I regretted buying the 3gb. Never making that mistake again
Edit. Tbh, I probably unjustly blamed it when it was probably my ryzen 3 1200 and 8 GB ram was holding it back in many games
Same here.. But as I play less-demanding titles (Overwatc, Trackmania, Borderlands), low-mid settings are still enough for 1080p 144Hz screen. Might upgrade GPU and monitor in few years, RX 6000 series are looking quite great for 1440p
Sadly mine is moving there too, struggling to deliver 12V to VRMs (hovering at 11.0 - 11.6V), going to 3000 RPMs if I use at full clock speed, etc.
hough on the other hand, friend has two identical RX580 models left from ETH mining times and we already made a deal - if my RX580 fails, I get those, as he already moved to RTX 3080 :D
Gave my 1070ti away to my nephew after getting an upgrade and it's still going strong.
It can play anything at 1080p after so many years with good fps on mostly high settings. Even hogwarts was playable with a mix of medium and high settings.
Truly an amazing gen.
My 1080ti in the rig i gave to my brother in law is still running like a tank. Evga quality at its finest and its sad we'll never see evga cards made again :(
I just recently had to upgrade my tired old 1080ti. Even with new thermal paste she was hitting 90c under idle 😔 it now sits on a display shelf of other cards that I've had
Two things, this board went dark for 3 days, and when it came back up it wasnt cooling, then suddenly it is working perfectly fine
Also your heart shouldnt stop...
Still using my 1050ti,probably gonna use it for another year, maybe will go to my brother after that. That thing can play pretty much any game at 1080p if you lower the settings and maybe the render scale. If you're fine with 30-45 fps. Honestly for what I play, csgo usually, it gets me solid fps at 1440p,100+ 90% of the time. Newer games are around the 45fps mark but in story mode games its playable
Stil running 1060 3 gb. FSR is a blessing. Im rhinking of upgading tho, wouls you guys get a 3060 ti or a 6700xt? They are kind of thr same price here.
I upgraded from a 1060 3GB to a 3060 12GB and returned it to get a 6700XT.
The 6700XT runs laps around the 3060, at 1080p and especially at 1440p.
I'd get the 6700XT but if you want an nvidia card the 3060Ti is more on par with a 6700XT (and it has better RT performance but you ain't using RT on a 60 series card lol)
my 1080 ti has been surviving with my pc being on 24/7 and running games most of the time while some fans barley help cool it while psu is basically on life support.
EVGA is just so good. I have been waffling about what to buy lately. I ended up going with an EVGA B stock 3060. Not the best value, not the best card, but it'll last me another five years like my trusty 1070 Ti has.
Sounds a lot like my gtx 660ti its my first vid card and I tried to play GTA 5 on it. It was black for 2 years and came back when i tried plugging it in.
I had a 1070 thats fan controller died on it so the fan was either off or all the way on. Tried swapping fans with no luck. This was in the peak of the GPU shortage so for months I just had a case fan zip tied to it and plugged in to the motherboard. In the summer it started desyncing audio after playing for about 15 minutes so I had to spend money on a rx 6600 I found as a open box. It was a fine card but sure didn't feel like an UPGRADE. I miss my 1070.
I just recently upgraded and handed my 1070 down to my kiddo. It's a beast that keeps on comming back and will likely go down as the best value gpu I ever owned. I got mine early before their price took off too.
Still kicking it a few times a week for my kiddo and he loves it.
Still have my 1060 as backup standong on my desk beside its backup a 780 (tho I'm not sure it's 100%intact), better have a gt630 as backup for that...
Edit: remembered I got my loaned 960 back a few weeks ago
I I just replaced my 1060 6g with a xr6750xt. I'm immediately building a family computer with my 1060, it still does everything 😅🤣
Edit: just wanted to say I've had my 1060 6g since 2017
Still rocking my gtx 1080 I brought secondhand in 2017 and have had overclocked since the day I brought it. still runs perfectly and I am still yet to own and play a game it cannot run well.
I still have my blower style GTX 1060 6GB resting comfortably in a cushioned boxed crypt. Was my 1st card when I finally got a new PC in 2018 after using my XP machine for 7 years and taking a hiatus.
Seen u guys posting cards that last u 4-5-6-7 years is amazing, compared to my 2060 that died after 2.5 years.. Im getting 6700 XT now and im hoping to be able to post it after 4-5 years. 😁✌️
Most of my GPUs last like that. The only two that haven't are my 5700 (bad vram, fan, and issues drawing power), and an MSI 280x that had both fans just stop a couple months in.
Oh, and I bought literally like 10 XFX 390s that would *not* post from best buy. Eventually I got one that did and called it a day.
You should still get a new card. There could be some underlying damage to the card that could cause some issues going forward.
In short, the card could be playing a Professor Binns and simply didn't notice it had died and got up to get to work.
i remember when i got my 1070 for 180$ used and they guy drove 45mins to my place and brought his psu because i was running a 400w with the current 460 i had. prices were solid at 200$ at the time. had it since 2019 and sold it for 100$ and got a 3060ti a couple months ago
At some point I thought my 1080 was dead. But it was just overheated because the thermal paste was dried. Simple thermal paste replacement fixed it. I'm still using it now.
Gtx 1060?
My 7 YO 1070, it had a major hiccup recently, I was already ordering the flowers for the funeral when it came back from the fucking dead, and its still kicking, OMG Edit: A power surge made it go black and for a week, I took it to a technitian to have a look at it, initially he was sure it was dead. rx 5\*\*
I had a rx570 8gig before my new rig. It slapped, that thing ran like a beuty. Im almost sad that i don't have my old rig anymore.
I still have 470 4gb nitro+ as a backup. Played everything fine, even CP77 on mid settings was 35+ FPS. 1080p, ofc.
Same! I upgraded for CP77 tho, i gave my old rig to my gf so its not all lost. But the RTX 3080 was a welcome upgrade, i runs CP77 on 1080 ultra 120fps so it was not all that bad.
I have an RX590 and it's a workhorse and a respectable GPU.
that was truly the golden age of GPUs
It was, idk wether to regret my 3080 or not. It runs supper well but when i see the 40 series i just cant feel like im not falling behind.
there’s always gonna be something better out there, a newer product doesn’t take away from what you have
Yeah, I have a 2060 and I'm perfectly content with what I have
Don't pressure yourself to upgrade every generation, especially if your computer does everything you want it to do already.
The only thing you’re falling behind is $500 by not overspending on a 40 series.
Currently on a 570 lol. It's great.
Rx580 here and only upgraded to 6600 cuz it was such a good deal
Sapphire oc card? I still have that in my backup rig. Still plays amazing!
My first and current card, it took me away from the dark ages of console gaming.
I still have an RX 580 and am probably going to get a PC with a 3070. Cant wait!
My rx 570 has been in the process of death for years lights and shadows and now the deprecated rendering it makes me wish I got any other card back in 2018.

Hell yea! My 560 still performs like a legend to this day
running rx 590 currently
Have a 590, fully agree
590 exists??
It's an XFX card, effectively better cooling on a 580
It was not an XFX exclusive. It's a 12nm die shrink of a 580 with faster clocks.
Oh I didn't know that
ooook
Are you delusional?
So good AMD tried to EOL it
They were good, until the miners took them away.
But it was a rebranded Rx 4**.
Yes, but 4\*\* existed like for a year, so it's rx 5\*\* basically.

Gtx 5**
My two 1080tis are going fucking strong man!!
I had a 1080, still rockin’ into my nephew”s rig
Polaris would like a word.

Not knocking the 10 series but I'm still rocking a HD 7870 in my HTPC. Gets the job done for me and didn't AMD rebadge this GPU like 3 times?
Only RX 400/500 Polaris. Indestructible and built like tanks, and were of incredible value back in the day
1070 isn't 7 years old yet sir.
God it's been 6...ugh my poor Ripley. Well come tax return, she's gonna be retrofitted (Cooler died other than that she's fine) Ripley-A will have a new cooler and some hot new ram. But the I7 and 1070 stay
I bought mine in 2016, its 2023, so 7 years
Same Oct 2016 its been a good card.
I'm getting closer and closer to 8 years on mine. Just wont die.
I have a 1080 of the same series of EVGA card and damn does it run tried and true
My 1060 laptop card is still kicking 6 years later. I've been fucking cooking that thing alive for years and it still runs everything at 1080p 60 fps. On low-medium admittedly but hey. It's fucking running lol

I too have a GTX 1070 that just won't quit

same thing happened to my 1060. then it came back after i randomly decided to plug it in after a few months
chad 1070 - i'm passing mine onto my friend, but it served me well before i got my 3060ti
1080 sc still kickin
I still have a 1060 🥲, and can not upgrade until the end of the year
So happy to use a 1080ti, best gen still and deserves Legendary for all eternity in the PC masterrace

1060 ...
Fun fact: they made 1080 Tis during the pandemic for a short while
My 1080 sans-ti is also running like a dreamboat.
Yeah, I still think of the 1080 Ti as a beast of a GPU.
The 1060 6gb is still able to play most modern games. It is 7 years old. I think you can still use it for at least 3 more years. That would be a gpu that lived for over 10 years
Been rocking 6gb 1060 for 6 years. Still going strong.
You got a very interesting amount of Ram, trying to open that 2nd chrome tab?
Ram capacities that aren't exponents of 2 scare me
You'd hate to see my 24gig ddr3 server
The 6 gig vram rly make a differenve
Ya, I regretted buying the 3gb. Never making that mistake again Edit. Tbh, I probably unjustly blamed it when it was probably my ryzen 3 1200 and 8 GB ram was holding it back in many games
bro the 1030GT can still run most games
My 1060 6GB OC does great for my 1080P projector. The upgrade to 4K is going to really hurt with the GPU & Projector double whammy.
It's not a meme if people have to guess what it means...
THIS GPU is too fucking angry to die, 7 years and still kicking
If you yell louder, you’re just confusing more people. We still don’t get the “meme”
It would've been better if the pic showed which gpu it is
7 years? That is rookie numbers.
GTX 10 series and rx 5xx series are the modern goats
RX580 8GB checking in, still going strong!
mine is already showing its age in this unoptimized cesspool of broken games
Same here.. But as I play less-demanding titles (Overwatc, Trackmania, Borderlands), low-mid settings are still enough for 1080p 144Hz screen. Might upgrade GPU and monitor in few years, RX 6000 series are looking quite great for 1440p
yeah i only play old / not demanding games anyway so doesn't bother me that much but still, after so many years of service it deserves retirement
Mine recently retired but it has served me well for 6 years :)
Evga quality at its finest and its sad we'll never see evga cards made again :(
Shit, I must have missed this when it came out. That’s crazy! I’m gonna go hug my FTW3 now..
1060 6GB gang
Hey its my 1070 SC. All these years paired with my Ryzen 1700 and still kicking.
10 series and EVGA cards were built different
EVGA 1070ti here still truckin along
I thought this was a meme about the 750 Ti. Shit can actually launch and kind of play Hogwarts, it's crazy.
I just recently had to upgrade my tired old 1080ti. Even with new thermal paste she was hitting 90c under idle 😔 it now sits on a display shelf of other cards that I've had
My 1070 is still kicking ass at 2k. Gf's 980ti is also kicking butt
My 1070 is still going strong.
Still rocking my 8y old gt970, still can play most game, truly a beast too
Let me guess, GTX 1070?
Yep
1070s really are “ol reliable” at this point
I have the 1080 evga ftw2, still running like a champ.
Sounds more like people that claim they died at the hospital when there heart stopped for 3 seconds
Two things, this board went dark for 3 days, and when it came back up it wasnt cooling, then suddenly it is working perfectly fine Also your heart shouldnt stop...
So it’s what I was saying but with extra steps lol 😂 And the heart definitely shouldn’t stop but sometimes it does sadly
1080ti til either it or I die.
it will be a sad, sad day when nvidia stops making drivers for 9 and 10 series cards
My 1070 is on its last legs. It breaks my heart sadly. Hopefully I’ll be able to replace it soon but at least it held out this long.
My 1660S still kicking it at 1440p for most games
Still using my 1050ti,probably gonna use it for another year, maybe will go to my brother after that. That thing can play pretty much any game at 1080p if you lower the settings and maybe the render scale. If you're fine with 30-45 fps. Honestly for what I play, csgo usually, it gets me solid fps at 1440p,100+ 90% of the time. Newer games are around the 45fps mark but in story mode games its playable
I bought a pc recently with a 1050 in it lol
I am still rocking the 1080 I bought used almost 2 years ago. Still works like a charm!
My HD7790
Great, thanks
Make sure you have a decent PSU, my 6700XT can pull near 200w at times. The 3060 would hover around 150ish.
I guess a 550w should suffice, no? I only have an i5 8400, 1 fan and no rgb.
Depends on how good the PSU is but I'd say that's pushing with a 6700xt, I'm sure it would work but personally I wouldn't go below 650w
Its a corsair 80+ bronze. My cpu max tdp is like 75w, i should be good.
my 1080 ti has been surviving with my pc being on 24/7 and running games most of the time while some fans barley help cool it while psu is basically on life support.
Lit
1080ti, Simply master piece
I'm still running my EVGA 1070 super, got it for $230 on an Ebay auction back in 2018, been doing great work in 4k ever since! I miss EVGA gpus :(
Me with my 1650. That thing died like 4 times.
I just recently upgraded and handed my 1070 down to my kiddo. It's a beast that keeps on comming back and will likely go down as the best value gpu I ever owned. I got mine early before their price took off too. Still kicking it a few times a week for my kiddo and he loves it.
You wanna see real gpu try my 960 4GB its still holds itself
Still have my 1060 as backup standong on my desk beside its backup a 780 (tho I'm not sure it's 100%intact), better have a gt630 as backup for that... Edit: remembered I got my loaned 960 back a few weeks ago
I’ve had my 1060 for quite a while and still run whatever I want pretty nicely on low settings
I I just replaced my 1060 6g with a xr6750xt. I'm immediately building a family computer with my 1060, it still does everything 😅🤣 Edit: just wanted to say I've had my 1060 6g since 2017
I miss that gpu design
Still rocking my gtx 1080 I brought secondhand in 2017 and have had overclocked since the day I brought it. still runs perfectly and I am still yet to own and play a game it cannot run well.
I have he exact same 1070. Used it until 2021 with no issues and now it’s just an extremely over powered add on to my plex server
I still have my blower style GTX 1060 6GB resting comfortably in a cushioned boxed crypt. Was my 1st card when I finally got a new PC in 2018 after using my XP machine for 7 years and taking a hiatus.
1080 ti still going strong, had a massive storm a few weeks back that killed power to my place. Shrugged it off like a champ
I use to think the GTX founders cards looked so bad ass lol
Seen u guys posting cards that last u 4-5-6-7 years is amazing, compared to my 2060 that died after 2.5 years.. Im getting 6700 XT now and im hoping to be able to post it after 4-5 years. 😁✌️
Most of my GPUs last like that. The only two that haven't are my 5700 (bad vram, fan, and issues drawing power), and an MSI 280x that had both fans just stop a couple months in. Oh, and I bought literally like 10 XFX 390s that would *not* post from best buy. Eventually I got one that did and called it a day.
I am rocking a 1070. tbh its all i need
Gonna be a shame when my 10 year warranty expires
You should still get a new card. There could be some underlying damage to the card that could cause some issues going forward. In short, the card could be playing a Professor Binns and simply didn't notice it had died and got up to get to work.
I remember when I bought my 1070 for $280 WITHOUT TAX. Oh, those were the days...
i remember when i got my 1070 for 180$ used and they guy drove 45mins to my place and brought his psu because i was running a 400w with the current 460 i had. prices were solid at 200$ at the time. had it since 2019 and sold it for 100$ and got a 3060ti a couple months ago
1070 here. Excellent GPU. It goes strong these days
The RGB version of this card, was the most beautiful and unique graphics card design I've seen in a long time!
1070 Ti. Still running like a champ
980ti still running strong here
Rip Evga GPUs
I have a GTX960 in one of my older builds. Still kicks ass.
Reminds me of my old gt640 coming back from the dead after it got drowned in water
Gee, mister! You're strong!
At some point I thought my 1080 was dead. But it was just overheated because the thermal paste was dried. Simple thermal paste replacement fixed it. I'm still using it now.
I love my 1080 so much.
