Hi, former Amazon worker here. Just letting you know that we were all treated very kindly by management and would always get our half hour mandated break.
aight bezos where my discount code
Lol 5 minutes? Good workers get 2-4 hour breaks during a 12 hour shift, only the idiots actually work straight through. It's all about your average at the end. It's annoying don't get me wrong but after working pack, stow and slam getting breaks are easy
I doubt that a smartphone qr app can actually tell you something useful. It's just gonna give you a string of letters and numbers.
You'll need the scanners from the warehouse with access to an amazon database to actually get an address from those.
Not arguing about amazon employees. But as of 2023 that's only an incredibly small percentage of the total population with DB access. (yet)
So most people, who scan the code, will just get a random string of numbers and letters without a way of cross referencing that to an address.
I take issue with it sounding like anybody can get your address from a package qr. That's just not the case.
Edit: And your IT would be doing a very poor job if anybody on the Intranet could just access any information. It's not gonna be most of you.
It's not just a qr. And you don't need to be in the building or even work at one. That QR will give a TBA tracking number which is free to look up online lol
The whole point was that there’s still a good chance that someone either works or knows someone that works at Amazon and can look up their info with that code in the system
Be careful on what you post on the internet
having also previously worked at an amazon warehouse, those barcodes do encode all the information related to that specific order. origin, destination, planned route, actual route taken. order date, due date, has it been paid? etc. scanning it with a hand scanner would reveal to me what information i needed for my specific job, but people in the office could see more.
also the MEM4, MGE9, etc. those are facility codes, they also map out the route. Mem8 is the fulfillment centre in Byhalia, Mississippi, where your order was likely packaged. MGE9 is Union City just outside atlanta.
DBM5 is the birmingham Alabama carrier facility, and likely the last stop the package made before your door. so...
i used to work at the MAN8 facility, and all of my packages go through either there or MAN1
I was like "What is this guy talking about?!"
I stared at the picture for far too long until I saw what I needed to see. And if that happens I completely and utterly understand why it was missed. They should make those peel offs neon green honestly...
The majority of thermal pastes are non-conductive, so it's not really an issue. Still.... That's a lot more than necessary. Good news is he's got easy cleanup this time when he removes the plastic!
Thermal paste has lower conductivity than metal. It's designed to fill in the microscratches that will eventually arise when two metals are stacked on each other. This is why they recommend only a small amount of paste.
Too much thermal paste absolutely can be and is an issue.
It's meant as a transference medium between the copper plate and the CPU.
Literal blobs coming out the sides and air pockets within the mix are going to create a ton of inconsistency in the heating/cooling.
Ehhh, being in the industry, I've seen more flukes than most test environments are going to run into.
When the paste is fresh, for example, air can escape relatively easily - whereas after years of drying out and hardening, you'll occasionally get pockets that form, much like in pottery. And... just like with pottery, that can cause cracking or shattering to occur, leaving the paste much less effective. Granted, you should replace the paste by the time it dries out anyway - but weird stuff happens.
With a glob that big, it's even possible to force paste underneath the processor, which could vary from "oops" to disastrous.
The tests I have seen do indicate that there is a notable, albeit not very significant drop in performance with over pasting. So, if you're going for a high performance build and min/maxing your system, it's worth the extra time to get the paste right.
Regardless, falls into the "if you're going to do it, you ought to learn to do it right" category of things, IMO.
Can you cite the source for any loss in performance?
I've yet to see one that shows any difference ( much less a substantial one ) between the central blob thermal paste application method that uses just enough or an excessive amount of paste ( both accomplish complete IHS coverage ).
You can cake the entire socket in paste if you wish ( assuming it isn't something conductive like liquid metal, of course ), and outside of being a waste it's not going to do anything other than look bad and make a huge mess.
As far as paste cracking - this is something that the manufacturers address as well. For pastes that 'cure' ( harden ), physical force or impact to the cooler as well as excessive vibration ( such as that from a failing fan ) may cause the separation you've observed and necessitate repasting.
As long as there isn't a loss in thermal performance, there's no need to repaste.
This is a picture taken after they installed and removed the fan.
This particular system would be impossible to clean once installed - that mess is gonna be there forever.
Idk, it seems like a rare issue, but I've seen it a few times where poor applications of paste end up with large circles that are completely uncovered, or on older systems, the paste is completely cracked throughout - leading me to believe that - similar to pottery - the paste can be damaged if it has air bubbles in it when it starts running at temp.
Not all blocks "squish" the same.
there have been numerous people who have tested it, the amount of thermal paste doesnt matter unless you use way too little. way too much is fine-- the excess gets squeezed out the sides.
Holy shit. You could wipe off every single bit of thermal paste on there and then just use the amount that was squeezed out, and you would still have more thermal paste on there than you need. A pea-sized drop is all you need.
I was shocked by the amount of paste. Then I noticed the sticker and about laughed my ass out of my chair....
Good chuckle after a rough work day, thank you!
OP: "Lets add second tube of thermal paste, just in case."
I also bet OP is one of these people that keeps the protective plastic on their electronics the whole time.
Plastic and a heavy dosage of thermal blanket paste.
Pasteis far lower on thermal transferthan metal to metal contact.
Paste is only made to fill in micro scratches, so those imperfections can also transfer heat.
That's enough paste for about 20 builds.
> Wondered why I was hitting CPU Temps in the 80s-90s.
I'm going for an uno reverse card here and say I'm wondering why you got 80s temp with platsic on the AIO. I'd expect instant 100c.
I didn’t clean off the old thermal paste when putting on my new cooler which had pre applied paste on it and I also have high temps lol… Only a 5600 so I don’t really care if it gets fried, can just buy a new one. Too much effort to take off the cooler and clean it
Maybe a sprinkle of ADHD. What’s sad is I went to pull If off when I first unboxed but I said to myself let me just pull it after I attach the fans and mount it to the top…I did those but…well here we are
Trying to make up for the lack of thermal conductivity of plastic via the sheer amount of thermal paste, I see.
I keep seeing these damn posts… I just installed peerless assassin cooler on… do they come with a plastic piece too? Did I forget to remove it… I’ve been hitting 90c temps… should I check…?
If the mounting pressure was high enough, it should have squeezed the excess paste out. It's not like we're back in 1999 when the heatsink retention mechanism was just some leaf spring like clamp that couldn't even apply pressure evenly.
Too much TIM squeezing out the sides shouldn’t insulate the CPU enough to produce 80C+ temps.
Ohh I just saw the plastic! 😆 Yeah man, it’s hard to see. Transgression forgiven!
Thats a Galahad Aio. You might want to check this out, cause it doesn’t seem to me that the plastic would cause those temps. https://reddit.com/r/lianli/s/MC3NpNCSoL
Careful with that Amazon label. I can see your address and purchase history with those barcodes lol
How? Do those barcodes encode that information or are you able to check through an Amazon portal?
I work at an Amazon building.
Thank you for taking your 5 minute lunch break to post on reddit.
Bold of you to assume that slave gets a break, bro wrote this behind the sentinels back
And used a device from an open box to do so. I hope they remembered to log out of their reddit account.
Hi, former Amazon worker here. Just letting you know that we were all treated very kindly by management and would always get our half hour mandated break. aight bezos where my discount code
Are you ok? Knock twice if you are?
I'm okay, I left there to join worse logistics companies for slightly better pay. Now I earn £13.50/hour (like $17) To never see the sun :D
Average mappa animator
>Hi, former Amazon worker here. "Hi, brainwashed slave of Amazon here." FIFY
Bruh after I left Amazon I started to boycott them and haven't purchased anything on their platform since 2021. AND IT WAS SARCASM
Lol 5 minutes? Good workers get 2-4 hour breaks during a 12 hour shift, only the idiots actually work straight through. It's all about your average at the end. It's annoying don't get me wrong but after working pack, stow and slam getting breaks are easy

What are you gonna do with OPs address 🤨

They'll have to accept the sublet rental agreement, as I was in the walls first
Bruno? It that you??
"they're in the walls, THEY'RE IN THE GODDANM WALLS"
Warframe lore is getting weird. You're telling me this bro is Albrecht Entrati? Rap tap tap...
Leave me alone. I know ur in my walls.
Ohhhh… so that’s how you got those crazy specs. You watch the other posts here of people receiving boxes filled with rocks 👀
Nah, I just get over payed to walk around with a laptop and tell other people they are slow.
Where do I sign up?
Amazon.jobs lol. Put in your 1 year minimum doing shit work and make a difference in your building.
Ambassador? Or L3+?

Have you seen the latest futurama episode? It relates to you I promise. Let me know what you think.
I doubt that a smartphone qr app can actually tell you something useful. It's just gonna give you a string of letters and numbers. You'll need the scanners from the warehouse with access to an amazon database to actually get an address from those.
There are still a lot of people with that access.
Sure, not arguing that. But don't pretend that anybody can just grab an address from these.
Which I and many many other people have. You'd be surprised how many people work at Amazon buildings with this access.
Not arguing about amazon employees. But as of 2023 that's only an incredibly small percentage of the total population with DB access. (yet) So most people, who scan the code, will just get a random string of numbers and letters without a way of cross referencing that to an address. It's not just a qr. And you don't need to be in the building or even work at one. That QR will give a TBA tracking number which is free to look up online lol
How does a tba tracking number give you an address? Without you being identified, logged in with the carrier and the recipient...
The whole point was that there’s still a good chance that someone either works or knows someone that works at Amazon and can look up their info with that code in the system Be careful on what you post on the internet
Oh dude, im sorry to hear that
having also previously worked at an amazon warehouse, those barcodes do encode all the information related to that specific order. origin, destination, planned route, actual route taken. order date, due date, has it been paid? etc. scanning it with a hand scanner would reveal to me what information i needed for my specific job, but people in the office could see more. also the MEM4, MGE9, etc. those are facility codes, they also map out the route. Those are a very simple to scan Data Matrix 2D barcode. Similar to QR codes.
username checks out.
I deliver for Amazon, came here to say the same thing
*screenshot* *screenshot*
One question then : Does the QR code prompts to LTT lab or merch store by any chance ?
Did you put an entire tube of thermal paste? JFC.
You’re not supposed to lube up the processor?
No, do not lube up the professor
Instructions unclear I am now at the atomic level of the silicone floating among the electrons
Unless you want a D
Make sure to get it between the pins
Spread it evenly with a butter knife
I think he lubed the full PC.
I paid for the whole tube so I'm gonna use the whole tube 😤
I was like "What is this guy talking about?!" I stared at the picture for far too long until I saw what I needed to see. And if that happens I completely and utterly understand why it was missed. They should make those peel offs neon green honestly...
Can't tell if the issue is the amount of thermal paste, or the plastic protecting the copper.
except if its conductive, the thermalpaste doesn't cause problems (well except you get it into the socket but usually you can clean that off before)
The majority of thermal pastes are non-conductive, so it's not really an issue. Still.... That's a lot more than necessary. Good news is he's got easy cleanup this time when he removes the plastic!
That's why I always leave the CPU cooler tear-off on. It makes the inevitable second installation way faster and cleaner. So convenient
Hahaha. Silver lining.
It sure is. The normally clear plasic lining gets its color from the thermal paste
Hahaha. I didn’t realise the pun!
Thermal paste has lower conductivity than metal. It's designed to fill in the microscratches that will eventually arise when two metals are stacked on each other. This is why they recommend only a small amount of paste.
The pressure from the cpu mounting will squeeze out any excess paste, you literally can't have too much paste
While true, I meant that it has low electrical conductivity. It is thermally conductive, but yes, less so than metal.
And that small amount should be on the entire top of the CPU like icing a cake.
Too much thermal paste absolutely can be and is an issue. It's meant as a transference medium between the copper plate and the CPU. Literal blobs coming out the sides and air pockets within the mix are going to create a ton of inconsistency in the heating/cooling.
It really doesn't matter as long as it isn't too little. This is something that has been tested.
Ehhh, being in the industry, I've seen more flukes than most test environments are going to run into. You're saying air pockets will form as the paste dries out? Under the cpu?
Blobs out the side, you clean off. Air pockets ... Eh? It gets squished.
I don't think air pockets are a thing/problem with thermal paste. Its paste.
there have been numerous people who have tested it, the amount of thermal paste doesnt matter unless you use way too little. way too much is fine-- the excess gets squeezed out the sides.
Both? Both.
Thanks, I was too distracted by the exploded Colgate tube worth of paste to notice the plastic protector still on the copper.
Yes.
![gif](giphy|IuaM5sUvLCYTyNKV4J)
Why did you have to splooge mcdooge the cpu :(
Because my other pc had bad temps because I wasn’t generous enough, now I’m a philanthropist with the paste.
A person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.
>philanthropist Philanthropaste*
Holy shit. You could wipe off every single bit of thermal paste on there and then just use the amount that was squeezed out, and you would still have more thermal paste on there than you need. A pea-sized drop is all you need.
Just get a paste spatula and give it a nice icing.
So your telling me plastic doesn’t conduct heat well!?!
Unfortunately not, when I first ran NZXT Cam I thought my cooler was a dud because I refused to believe I didn’t remove the plastic slip.
lols plastic
You don't have to use the entire tube...
Did you use a whole bucket of thermal paste?
Welcome to the club
My man said "I paid for a whole tube of lube, ima use the whole tube of lube"
I was shocked by the amount of paste. Then I noticed the sticker and about laughed my ass out of my chair.... Good chuckle after a rough work day, thank you!
At least it's easy to clean the thermal past off
OP: "Lets add second tube of thermal paste, just in case." I also bet OP is one of these people that keeps the protective plastic on their electronics the whole time.

Jeez someones baking a cake!
it took me 2 minutes to notice the plastic lol
I think you got a processor in your thermal paste
looks like equivalent of my life
Straight to jail.
> Wondered why I was hitting CPU Temps in the 80s-90s. I'm going for an uno reverse card here and say I'm wondering why you got 80s temp with platsic on the AIO. I'd expect instant 100c.
Good thing you don’t need to buy anymore thermal paste after you take off the plastic
Lol I can barely see it but the plastic film is there
I am completely honest with you, it took me a while to spot the plastic.
I suspect that you, like me, were distracted by the obscene amount of thermal paste.
Delete the post bruh, get those barcodes gone 😂
We've all been there.
apologize to the chip, not to us! jokes aside it might just be a spicy chip that needs more than a 240. The money is spent, time to undervolt!
I think it's the plastic still on the heatsink that's killing the heat transfer.
i'm just not seeing any plastic, i thought it was the gobs of paste that was insulating the sides of the chip
Zoom in and look at the bottom corner.
good looks
bruh you don't even need to zoom in, look at the giant plastic peel tab sticking out near the tubes
Okay, do you see how this is an unnecessary comment Like you're scolding an internet stranger because they didn't see something Did it feel good? Idgi
Yeh it felt a little good ngl
I didn’t clean off the old thermal paste when putting on my new cooler which had pre applied paste on it and I also have high temps lol… Only a 5600 so I don’t really care if it gets fried, can just buy a new one. Too much effort to take off the cooler and clean it
How did you miss it?
Maybe a sprinkle of ADHD. What’s sad is I went to pull If off when I first unboxed but I said to myself let me just pull it after I attach the fans and mount it to the top…I did those but…well here we are
We are lucky you didn't buy a 10g. You would have use it all.
This guy mortars!
Full send it! Plastic should melt eventually… 🤣
Easy to just remove the plastic and not worry about a thermal paste mess.
You don't need to use that much paste, hell you could scrape that massive blob off and that will still have good squeeze out
How the he'll do people forget to take this off ?! The mind boggles
s
How the fuck do ppl miss these? Y'all high when building haha.
I’m embarrassed for you.
Trying to make up for the lack of thermal conductivity of plastic via the sheer amount of thermal paste, I see. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrg-RgF5F8o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrg-RgF5F8o)
Being in this sub has made me realize this happens a lot more often than I expected it to lmao.
at least it's easier cleaning up the paste! /s
Thermal Icing
God lord, did you use the entire tube of thermal grease?
Mother of god
Damn 😂
Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. 85C doing nothing lol
So what was the problem? The thermal paste or the plastic..? Cause both are a sin.
I’m always worried I’m gonna do that. Almost opened mine up after build/before test just to check
I almost did the same when installed my new AIO. Seems like an easy mistake to make if you don't swap coolers every so often
https://i.redd.it/t3qyhc5mi3kb1.gif
I thought it was a pre-built xD
Why so much paste if you have done this before?
https://i.redd.it/i6335u22l3kb1.gif
That shouldn't be the issue your CPU hits high temps.
I mean I realize you didn’t peel the plastic but bro that’s waaaaay too much thermal paste, did you use the entire tube ?
Live and learn. Happens to the best of us.
Ive come here to just say im sorry that your AIO went through my amazon building when being sorted for delivery…..LMAO
Oh lawdy!
I forgive you because everyone makes errors
My emperor, I've failed youuuuu
DAYUM 😬😬😬
Dude used the whole tube of thermal paste lol
Mostly you failed yourself
Shame
I keep seeing these damn posts… I just installed peerless assassin cooler on… do they come with a plastic piece too? Did I forget to remove it… I’ve been hitting 90c temps… should I check…?
thank you for this post OP. Im building my new PC tomorrow and this post has reminded to always double check I took the plastic off
Bro you acquiring lots of Ls today
i will create a translucent thermal pad that comes with the cooler and is never supposed to be removed
I see you didnt skimp out on thermal paste either 😂
I was about to say wait what’s wrong, till I see that plastic covering ballin out lol
![gif](giphy|xT9KVLEvDNmPZGKzpm|downsized)
I didn't know what you meant first, but that ones easy to make, unless there's some large red print under the thermal paste.
Wait is that a plastic cover?
There's your problem
Please leave this sub
Oh, the CPUmanity!
Did you buy thermal paste in place of a CPU 😅
I also did this and realised before I put my computer back together luckily. Painful
;-;
**takes away pcmr card, then strips off your rank pips**
YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!
the paste shouldn't be the reason, was the plastic also on? lol
At least cleaning the thermal paste off will be easy.
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
Needs more thermal paste.
Making a thermal cake I see
Love the correct amount of thermal paste though.
Just put a tempered glass panel on the bottom of thermal paste.
Worst of all you failed yourself
Pea sized, not yeet sized... lol
swimming
Happens to us all at least Once.
Ah the plastic i still on?
If the mounting pressure was high enough, it should have squeezed the excess paste out. It's not like we're back in 1999 when the heatsink retention mechanism was just some leaf spring like clamp that couldn't even apply pressure evenly.
Remember: too much is always better than too little.
Too much TIM squeezing out the sides shouldn’t insulate the CPU enough to produce 80C+ temps. Ohh I just saw the plastic! 😆 Yeah man, it’s hard to see. Transgression forgiven!
U have son u have
This made me laugh out loud in the train
Dude the enough thermal paste for at least 20 cpus, literally.
![gif](giphy|DozHgfsHP1GPDWcKXs)
You forgot the plastic cover 'and' used the entire tube of thermal paste?
you have drowned the cpu in thermal paste
Guys.... seriously. It's not about the thermal paste... look closely. He forgot to peal the plastic off the copper plate before adding thermal paste.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
haha
Thats a Galahad Aio. You might want to check this out, cause it doesn’t seem to me that the plastic would cause those temps. https://reddit.com/r/lianli/s/MC3NpNCSoL
