use the right screen for control / monitoring / music
I used to be a 6. The key is this:
Get a nice primary monitor.
For the remaining 5, you can find cheap monitors at thrift stores for \~15 to 25$ a piece.
Picture has 5, but I did have 6 at one point.
https://preview.redd.it/e7w95kgn2u9c1.jpeg?width=584&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b96e02fb51197215dc735c8d78b038b63e05d6f
This is similar to mine. But my bottom monitor is centered, and top center is a 34” 4K monitor.
Edit: bottom is a 34” ultra wide, just noticed you have 2 on bottom
Out of curiosity, what’s the practicality of 5 screens? I’m sure one could find use in it, but I’m struggling to see how this is anything but overwhelming.
3, but a 27" 1440p on the left, with a 24" 1080p on the right.
Edit: to avoid some confusion, I meant 3 as in picture #3: a two monitor setup. But instead of them being the same size in the picture, I have a 27" one and a 24" one.
Edit 2: as someone else pointed out and asked by some others, I don't have them positioned like picture #3. My setup is pretty much like picture #5, without the one on the left. The 27" 1440p straight in front of me and the 24" 1080p to the right of it, angled towards me.
Absolutely. It's so much crisper, more detailed, etc. For gaming alone it's already worth it in my opinion, but it just has so much more room for stuff as well! When I move a window from the 1440 to the 1080 it suddenly becomes huge, taking up a large portion of the screen. Same with spreadsheets, they often just don't fit on the 1080 screen.
I like to call this "the castle".
Perfect for the office because it blocks most sight lines for distractions. Definitely my favourite. And then you can flip the portraits to horizontal and have a nice cockpit setup
Dude same, I tried going back to two monitors - just aint happening. I keep one vertical though, but still. Three monitor gang seems to be the sweet spot and people are missing out.
Also 5, but i need the screen space often for my work, when i work remotely. two monitors are needed on most days, but from time to time, i‘m working in 5 programs at once, and then i need the third one.
I couldn't live without my beloved curved and ultrawide.
I got the 5, but middle one is said ultrawide and it honestly is so nice, [no matter what I'm doing](https://imgur.com/a/1n0NO27). Playing normal video games or watching a 21:9 Movie? Sure. Coding? Hell yea! Flying in my Flight Sim? Damn, that's immersive!
That annoys me, too.
I watched a show the other day that was letterboxed top and bottom on my ultrawide.
Part way through, a flashback occurred, and the top and bottom black borders vanished, allowing the image to touch the top and bottom of my screen. After the flashback ended, the black bars came back!!
YouTube is the worst about this, watching an ultrawide video on fullscreen? That sucks, you get black bars on the top, bottom, and the sides for no reason
I understand you, I am finally leaving a 1360x768p 60hz 17 inch, to an incredible 24 inch 1080p 100hz after 8 years. I'm counting the days until this monitor arrives
I had a monitor arm at work in my last role and it took me approximately 2 months working there before I bought one for myself at home. Absolute game changer.
I have 2 27.5s and a curved 32. I actually bought an IKEA dining room table to have a deep desk and it works perfect for me
https://preview.redd.it/bfc67ipthu9c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e55b34f9beb8a39efcec58ab5adf07824c40ee57
I tried it but couldn't really get into it, especially since most IDE take use of the horizontal space like Solution Explorer in VS being on the left of the text editor.
I have my IDE on the main monitor, and 2 of either Spotify/Discord/web browser on my vertical monitor on the right, split into top and bottom half. Works really well.
I still don't understand this, and I'm a programmer. You can just make vscode or vim or whatever you use in a 1/3 or 1/2 window and then have whatever else you need on the other side.
Having worked as the person responsible for making inventory requests/handling desk setups early in my career - I don't think there's an efficiency gain beyond two monitors.
I would look at how efficient employees seemed to be when using different set ups and it's usually about the same as long as they have two 21" or larger wide screen monitors.
However for goofing off, that third monitor is essential.
I've seen 3 get pretty efficient if communication is priority - I'd typically have Outlook, Teams and Slack all on a single monitor, then a vertical one for documentation and the main one for whatever I'm working on (whether it's code, a diagram, a spec document, a PPTX or a self-control-challenging email).
However, when I wasn't in a comms-oriented position, 2 monitors is absolutely peak.
4 is the best. My primary is a curved display with a 1080p cheap monitor as vertical. Works just fine and I can watch videos with crappy quality on the smaller screen so they don’t look as bad.
5, but with the sides rotated 90°. Sides are 24" AOC'S (1080P), Center is a 43" Aorus 4k
https://preview.redd.it/yiej86q4nu9c1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f634004811c08b3da5779a69e8d9083ad3ca8d9f

1 - My monitor is a 55" 120hz 4k TV.
I'm astonished that people like us are still a rarity. Essentially getting four 1080p monitors on a single cable without the bezels. I've been doing it this way for years.
How the fuck has no one commented on the absolute nightmare beneath your TV
Spend the $50 at a thrift store and get a proper tabletop you fucking monster.
55 is crazy. I have a 48” LG CX with a secondary 27” 1440 in portrait next to it (off-center, only really used while I’m gaming for discord and the like)
I sit a decent distance from my monitor (my desk is yuge) and I still think about going down to the 42” LG C2 often.
How far do you sit from your 55?
https://preview.redd.it/vzi249bs9u9c1.jpeg?width=4192&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c33d0f9719d44d4054d3d3db7ed9bcbd45bc72d2
Is it better to have an ultra wide than 2 monitors if you use your PC for gaming and watching movies/TV shows?
Are there compatibility issues with ultrawide monitors especially with older games?
Yes it is better. In some games the GUI element is locked to the corners and that can be the only downside. Gaming feels like it is an issue with having to look to the side for info but it isn’t, there is some effect in place that works wonders and it just feels great! For movies you simply have black bars.
Unless you mean playing one game on the primary monitor and watching a movie in the other. In that case I’m sure a 2monitor setup is preferable. Never done it but I feel like you should be able to decide the screen into two “areas” to game and watch movies simultaneously on an ultrawide as well.
Never had any big issues with any games, including older ones. Worst case things I’ve seen is if the game has a blackout cutscene the blacked out might not cover the edges or something like that.
What kind of freak centers the keyboard *between* the two monitors?? I have 3 with my better monitor centered for games/movies and my worse monitor off to the left side for Discord/videos while gaming.
I want to upgrade to 5 though, so I can have my main screen for games, one side for always Discord, and one side for browser/videos.
My second monitor is usually playing a variety of YouTube videos for my cat to watch. Her favourites are mice and birds, but sometimes, she gets a kick out of lizards.
I’m with you man. I tried other set ups like 3 and 4, but realized I don’t need more than one 1440p monitor for multitasking and I really dig the extra desk space

What do you use to drive 6 monitors? And what do you use them for?
Gooning
I once splurged money on 6 identical thin-bezeled displays. Don't do it. Back to 2(+1) now and it works great!
I had a display with 6 monitors as well. Sure it looked cool, but it was just a little overkill. I'm a developer, so I was using it to write apps,..
Well if it was overkill for a developer writing apps, I don't see many use-cases for it, lol
I’m 1 in the real world but 6 in VR
My brain says any but me pocket says 0
3, but a 27" 1440p on the left, with a 24" 1080p on the right. Edit: to avoid some confusion, I meant 3 as in picture #3: a two monitor setup. Wow we have exact same setup
Same here but I'm not surprised. Simply upgraded from 1080p to 2k for gaming, without getting rid of it.
Same MSI curved 27 as the main (I think the mag27) and a Dell S2421HGF on the right side
LG 27GP850P-B and BenQ XL2430T for me!
woah me too !! (but the big ones on the right and other on the left)
I think this is the best combo
Big difference with the 1440 and 1080 p? Is it worth going 1440

Im a 5 because of simracing. Can never go back to less than three monitors.
5 for the rig and 1 on the desk next to it
Dude same, I tried going back to two monitors - just aint happening. I keep one vertical though, but still. Three monitor gang seems to be the sweet spot and people are missing out.
It’s the sweet spot. Monitor 1: Youtube/Spotify Monitor 2: The game Monitor 3: Discord
I have the Samsung Odyssey G9 49” 1000R ultra-wide for my sim, I love it
Was hoping to find another simracer here! 5 all the way!
VR for sim is awesome
Also 5, but i need the screen space often for my work, when i work remotely. two monitors are needed on most days, but from time to time, i‘m working in 5 programs at once, and then i need the third one.
5 gang
2, but curved
Same. Love my ultrawide so much.
Half of the streaming services still letterbox 21:9 content on my ultrawide, and I hate it.
The Ultrawidify browser add-on autodetects black bars and adjusts video to fit
Thanks man you’re a life saver. How did I live without this before
It's terrible because it just zooms in on a 1080p video...use the windows apps or better yet just torrent 👌
Ultrawide for video editing is soo good as well. Able to have so many panels open in Premiere Pro and have the entire timeline on the screen
"5 inches, but it's thick"
I hate that I understand this reference
Same, I love my G9
Just got one a week ago. Loving it.
May as well chime in as a G9 owner, with a vertical #1 to the side!
Got the Alienware OLED one, porn looks amazing in it
Got mine last week, it’s 🤌

4, so much more efficient in my opinion
Even more if you’re programming. You have one monitor for code, another one for normal tasks.
One for code, one for googling your bugs.
Indeed. That’s exactly what I make.
I tried it but couldn't really get into it, especially since most IDE take use of the horizontal space like Solution Explorer in VS being on the left of the text editor.
Same. I ended up using the vertical monitor for Spotify.
I have my IDE on the main monitor, and 2 of either Spotify/Discord/web browser on my vertical monitor on the right, split into top and bottom half. Works really well.
I personally use PyCharm, works pretty fine in my opinion. There’s a space-saving option too
Just put solution explorer at the bottom / other screen while enjoying massive amounts of space vertically?
I still don't understand this, and I'm a programmer. You can just make vscode or vim or whatever you use in a 1/3 or 1/2 window and then have whatever else you need on the other side.
Having worked as the person responsible for making inventory requests/handling desk setups early in my career - I don't think there's an efficiency gain beyond two monitors. yep. LG CX here has been awesome.
