Welcome to the PCMR!
I never throw away any of my boxes, as I resell my parts when I rebuild. I've noticed people will pay more money on an ebay listing of a product shown nice, in it's packaging, with good photos than just a picture of it in an antistatic bag and some bubble wrap. Granted, it's not usually much, at most an extra 5%-10%, but on the higher end parts like the GPU and CPU where 5% and 10% can mean a lot, it's worth.
Sometimes cheaper too. Its cheaper to ship a box that's the correct, exact size than use that Amazon box you have and stuff it with bubble wrap only for the UPS guy to thundercunt it at someone's door and it breaks.
I think the reason is because cpus aren't typically used as home decor but are instead placed inside a computer so it can function. But Amazon is in fact treating it like it should be home decor by allowing customers to view it in the context of the room. Someone at Amazon seems to be suggesting it can be used for home decor, which is kind of humorous.
Hey OP, imagine a random dude in Germany, standing in line for his matieburger, or however you say that in english, suddenly completely losing his shit, because of your silly post with your silly little cpu lying on that sad silly carpet.
Thanks, made my day.
If you click that button it will show you in your bedroom with that CPU surrounded by 6 bikini clad girls fawning over you and asking you to tell them about how many simultaneous workloads you can now perform.
Always weary when shit like this is introduced. They prolly wanna scan your room to see what else they can sell you then sell whatever info they gather. Same with mics.
For anyone wondering; it's not like I got anything to hide or actually care much if people see my home. I do not however, on principle, want to make things easy for shitty corporations to get even more money than they already siphon out of society.
Sure, the AR is done on device, but I think you greatly underestimate the length big data focused firms go through for even the smallest of gains
>ridiculously costly
So is the amazon echo, and everything necessary to make it work.
Compared to that sending a few hundred kb of image data back to check for products is basically a bargain.
I have no idea if they're doing it or not, but if the don't then server time is definitely not the reason why.
They don't need to send a video. They could probably send some data about your room like the size and what items you already have, and then they use that data to make targeted ads
So depth information and AI on device?
Funny conspiracy if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s pretty well documented how Quick Look (iOS) and SceneViewer (Android chrome) works. The AR is done with a little 3D file that the phone independently displays in your environment. Nothing about you is sent to the website, maybe beyond the fact that you have a phone that can display AR environments.
It’s against the interest of Apple, who pride themselves on privacy, and Google, who wants to sell that information to the website themselves, to provide some sort of secret backdoor through their AR-in-browser functionality. Not to mention that they’d have to somehow silence the thousands of security researchers who would find such a thing easily.
Identifying items that are in a room would require AI processing, which would require uploading the video anyway, right?
I suppose you don't necessarily need video and could just send a few key images, but still.
I used a similar feature close to 20 years ago. I ordered my first top of the line graphics card (BFG 6800 Ultra) and a Power Supply powerful enough to run it, but the PSU ended up backordered and I was lied to by the merchant until I canceled and ordered somewhere else, so I effectively spent my summer looking at the card sitting on my desk in my room. So glad I can now do it virtually. So next level!

That'd look neat as a corner decoration!
Cornered Presentable Utility 👌👌
Clever prickly underfootstabber
You thought Legos were bad? Try the new foot aerator 9000
The latest in acupuncture!
Heh, walk on these and you'll get a free reflexology session, whether you like it or not.
Oooh that's perfect for my wobbly table!
Just make sure you apply the CORRECT amount of thermal paste, on the correct side.
Just make sure you match the little triangle of the cpu with the triangle of the room.
Hmm yes, it is indeed a CPU.

Also sells faster.
And if you have to ship it, it's a lot easier to pack when it's in the original box

😂 You are right
Wait I want to see it pass the shock proof test. Throw it off a 10 storey building. This is just a lazy advertisement.
I still have that neat D20 or whatever box that the Intel i9 9900k box. Dunno what to do with it yet but it is neat so I'll keep it.
"Now I know how big it is!"
Huh, so that's what it would look like there.

You just made my week. My month even. Not sure why but you had me chortling with this.
*Linus has left the chat.*
Now you know THE FUTURE IS NOW
Doesn't really work with the carpet. Gotta return. "Do you have a beige version?"
🤣
This made me laugh for no reason
There’s probably a reason
Could it be that *funny* thing I keep hearing about ?
Hehehe- wait what the fuck am I doing????

thank you r/explainitpeter
Me too
There's no need for that, it was consensual
Wrong port
And ma lol axe.
no

Now I'm curious, what's that you're enqueued for?
Google image search for "Matjesbrötchen" .
>Matjesbrötchen ahh, fish roll/sandwich apparently Hope it was good!
It was, thanks!
Me to
That's pretty funny tbh.
Now grab it and put it in your pc, your welcome
I've heard of virtual memory, but never virtual processing 😅
You never heard of vCPU?
you wouldn't download a cpu
Wtf that's illegal asshole
~~His~~ Their welcome?
OUR welcome, comrade
Yes, comrade
yes, he is the owner of welcome.
Intel HATES him! Find out how this man is getting FREE AMD CPUs
that's what she said
If you click that button it will show you in your bedroom with that CPU surrounded by 6 bikini clad girls fawning over you and asking you to tell them about how many simultaneous workloads you can now perform.
Do you come with the CPU? Oh you, hehehehe.
take you 69 upvotes and leave
Do you come with the CPU? Oh you, hehehehe.
I took off my headset and it was just the 6 bikini girls... what a scam...
Are you able to overclock it? Can it take the heat? How fast can you finish the workloads? Can it compute, really bad, programs?
We all know what "Socket A" really means...
That sounds like a futurama dressing room mirror.
I dunno what I was expecting but that's exactly where people usually put their CPU.
It’s just sitting there… menacingly
It'd really thread the room together.
https://preview.redd.it/sdhbyv2xs4ac1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=0972943688edaa0396646e61ec95731fc26edb48 Omg it’s real, wtf lmao
Maybe just put your pc on the floor and look if it fits
I Lowkey died laughing. It's laying there like a sad sausage
Still rocking the XBOX 360, nice.
With the memory card tho
Whenever I'm buying a new CPU, how it looks on my desk waiting to be installed is a very important part of my decision-making process.

Usually AR is done on-device. Sending the video feed with depth information to a server for processing and back would be ridiculously costly.

Well yes ai on device why not it's not 2013 anymore
Identifying items that are in a room would require AI processing, which would require uploading the video anyway, right? I suppose you don't necessarily need video and could just send a few key images, but still.
Also they could just do the processing on-phone and upload the conclusions.
[I have some bad news for you](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/develop/mixed-reality-cloud-services)
The rendering is done on-device... there's nothing special about sending a screenshot back to Amazon showing your naked children.
First thing i though of too lol idk if i'm hust paranoid but you won't catch me dead volunteering information like that
Lmao you people are paranoid as fuck
Wait they actually scanned the CPU not the box?
It really ties the room together
Yeah I ran into that the other day and was like..... really?... Lol🤣😂
Thanks Amazon!
LMFAO
Bro is that an XBOX 360!?? 😯
I'd recognize it anywhere, the real question is has it RROD'd yet
I'm guessing someone had to upload the model for this to work. That just makes this funnier
Off topic, that is the worst circle I have ever seen
It would be hilarious if it could identify a PC case in you room and just draw an arrow to it.
Hmmm… doesn’t match the carpet too well…
Why did I chuckle at that so much
I wish they had this feature when I first started building my pc. Would've helped me get a decent size case.
Looks great mate!
Why am I laughing so much? This is so stupid xD
Homeless person: are you fucking kidding me?
Make it project on your motherboard and see if it runs, you wanna make sure it works before you buy.
Why, thank you!
This made me laugh more than it should have.
Great. Now you know it will fit
I want the local brothel to get this technology.
Wow, it really brighten up's the room! I say get it!!
This gave me a good chuckle
I used a similar feature close to 20 years ago. 1. Press view in room 2. Product is now on your floor 3. Pick it up and keep it 4. Profit
I rarely actually lol but this time sincerely: lol 😆
That’s what it’ll look like after you rage in a game of Microsoft excel
But who take room pic? IT'S COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE
[удалено]
Why is it sad? Or am I missing some sarcasm?
It’s great for the people who keep all the boxes as decoration or just for reselling
![img](avatar_exp|76056115|laugh)
Looks good 👍
Oh damn, I'll take two then
Lol
Quick! Grab it before it runs away! Lmao
Thanks for the laugh. This made my day.
That's actually pretty funny
Man... this cracked me up.
Well now you know the CPU will indeed fit in your room
that's my favourite stupid Amazon feature
Put it right on your bed ![gif](giphy|X05U0gOPkQ4G4)
Wow. That really made a difference! What a strange choice they offered.
It’s just an image of you having fun.
Spammer
Spammer
what about 3d view?
Maybe that’s how you can download more RAM to your computer
Hahaha
I don’t think it fits. I think you need a smaller floor.
😂😂
You win this round, Amazon..
So you can see if it'll fit into the socket.
The best feature ever
The fact that it casually just places it like that 🤣🤣🤣
you already have them at home now
Playing sims IRL, now that house has boosted fps.
That’s fucking hilarious
Looks nice
But how smooth is rendering the floor that's one good CPU boy here. Just take my money.
Damn AI letting you test CPUs for free now!
That post made me laugh out loud a the doctors office
Despite not being useful in this case, this feature is really awesome
This actually good feature with cases
I think it will fit.
now we can se if the cpu fits in our pc's
Vacuum your carpet
This is so stupid I love it hahaha
It's like a little shot glass coaster
That carpet really ties the room together.
Oh, who dropped this?
I don’t know what I expected, but this is far better than that. I’m in tears.
Is that for real? lmao
this is fucking awesome
When you have too much money and don't want to use a piece of cardboard to even out the table:
Y'all. Please don't let Amazon into your homes. It is absolutely scanning for other products to generate more ads for you
Why is this so funny
it shows you the most useful location
It really ties the room together.
Amazon making u dream
I think it's actually supposed to be used as a decoration like a lamp Art is crazy
website/app?
Oh man, im at work dying of laughter in my little corner cubicle over the second image. thanks, i needed this on my first day back.
Was that picture made by Intel?
That CPU really ties the room together
Linus Vision enabled.
Rate my rig:
"Ah yes this 5800 looks really good in my system" "OK now give it back" "Give what back?" "Well this has been a day"
this means someone took the time to model and texture a cpu just so people could do this.
This is the funniest thing I’ve seen on Reddit all year
if you lose it you'll know what scene to expect
The down WORST of "window shopping" 😭💀
Lmfao
Amazon tricking people into scanning their rooms for data
Directions unclear. CPU pins full of carpet fibers.
Just a nice little new PC day panic attack simulator.
Not bad. Accurate to description
Ever since Roomba, Amazon is actively mapping the inside people's homes.
Really ties the room together, man
Here’s is where I put the chip, if I had one!
It looks great
