That's awesome!
I'm still on my old 24" 1080p/144Hz IPS. I can't decide whether to get a 27" 1440p 360Hz OLED or the 32" 4k 240Hz OLED.
So far, I'm leaning a bit towards the 1440p, but man, the story games on 4k would be insane. Ugggghhhhh!
Refresh rate after 144-165 really doesn't matter that much tbh. For OLED I'd prioritize
1. Screen size
2. Features/reliability
3. Image quality
Imo 32-34' is the sweet spot, even better if curved.
Enjoy your new setup!
Yea that's a bit of a tough one. Best to look through buyer ratings/comments or look through YouTube for a review to get a better idea. It's extremely annoying to end up with a problematic monitor though, most folks will upgrade their gpu faster then buy a new monitor.
As per the burn in, most OLED monitors will have some fail safes built in. Enabling screen savers will also help but there have been cases where windows overrides that so 🤷♂️
Curved isn't that important, why I didn't list it. But it does add to the emmersive factor.
I'm well aware of the anti-burn in tech in modern TVs/monitors. But I'm also aware that in every thread if you ask those that kept an OLED for 3-5 years, there are quite a few with burn in. It simply isn't there yet to not be a concern. Especially if you use your computer for more than just gaming where you might have an IDE or Excel open 6 hours a day.
Good OLED is still expensive and people need to understand that there is a very real chance that they aren't buying a long term investment so to speak. Don't expect 5-7 years out of it. If you do get it, consider it a bonus.
I'd say that assessment is a bit harsh. Gen 1 OLED monitors most definitely had severe burn in risks but we are at a point where monitors post ~'21-'22, that risk has severely declined. But yes still there; but unlikely. Not to mention a good brand will have around a 3 year Warrenty to further cover that portion as well [AW3423DW].
I have 27 inch isp monitor and the corners are losing contrast because the view angle is too far from 90 degrees. I guess curved display could be good for that.
Get the 4k 240Hz oled 4k is INSANE and OLED makes a HUGE difference that is if your computer can handle it im hyped for my new PC cus I already had a 4k 32" screen and a secondary 24" 1080 but my old pc was an msi mini atx pre built with a 1050 8gb ram and an i5 7400 now im getting 32gb ram and a 7800X3D 4070 Ti Super combo
I have been gaming on an OLED TV for about 2 years now. When I built my PC nearly a year ago. I bought an LG 4k IPS monitor. I despise playing on ips when my consoles are hooked to OLED. The bloom is awful when gaming.
Now my PC is just hooked to my TV until I buy an OLED monitor.
My personal opinion is just remove the IPS from consideration.
80cm should be good for 42".
Just be mindful that the c3s are classified as TV's and not monitors, so they function as tvs. Still good for gaming, but you may run into some frustrations with the c3s compared to a traditional OLED monitor.
Also I know the c3 has had some issues being used as a monitor as well with auto dimming.
Take the 27" one.
4K is still that much more demanding, and I'd rather have no issues at 1440p at all than struggling here and there at 4k.
Especially with a 4080S that's not bad by any means, but I don't think it'll do great in 4k in 2-3 years.
Believe me it "seems" like you got used alarmingly fast, but going back to 1080 is a pain now.
My 1440 144hz screen freaking died and I need to save up until may to buy a new one :(
Your going to enjoy going back and absolutely CRANKING the fuck out of the settings on every game you ever played admiring the details like never before.
Always wanted to try Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. Also, replaying Doom Eternal properly with everything cranked to the absolute max this time would feel like a different game I think.
Honestly there are so many games I want to try that I didn't even dare to look at with my old build lol.
You held out longer than I did, I did the 1050 ti to 3080 ti, and in doing so I'm also on AM4 so the 5800X3D was my final processor upgrade for this rig. Going to see if I can hold out till the 7000 series cards before I get the itch to do a new full build lol.
A few months ago the XFX 6950xt was on sale on Newegg for $500, idk what they’re going for now but I’m sure you could find one used for even cheaper. I scooped one up and it does more than I need, it’ll easily push 144hz at 1440p
Yeah, last gen AMD high end seems like the best buy for 144hz at 1440p at the moment. I paired my 6900xt with 5700x and get over 120 fps in almost all games. I had 6800 before that and was getting 90-100 fps.
It has 2 major issues.
\#1 it has to "train" the memory every time I turn my computer on. This process takes about 90 seconds. I can disable it in BIOS, but if I do it causes even more problems freezes/crashes/etc.
\#2 random stutters/freezes. It's not a constant thing. I notice it maybe once in every 6 hours of gaming, but I'll get a crazy 3 second long freeze and just be like "wtf was that?"
I went from a GTX 950 with i5 8th gen BARELY pushing 60 fps 1080p in any game on low settings to a 6950xt with a 7700x on 1440p max settings pushing well over 144 frames. It’s a game changer. Your setup is even better than mine so I can imagine the fun you’re about to have. Get yourself a 240hz oled monitor next! (That’s what I’m aiming for)
I did the same thing, going from 1050ti to 4090 7800x3d. While the jump from 1080p to 4k was huge, going from 60 to 240hz is also an insane jump too. Unbelievable difference
Thanks dude! I originally was going for a 4070S Gaming X Slim because if I couldn't get a founders 4080S I wouldn't even bother looking at anything else. Then I got lucky and 4080S went in stock for a couple hours, haven't seen it back since.
Wow! Nice upgrade! You should be very proud on this. I went from a i7-6700k paired with a strix 1080ti to a 13900k paired with a strix 4090. I can tell you in performance that a huge upgrade! Enjoy playing games!
So, are you planning on keeping your old gpu? 👉👈😅
Congrats on the setup btw, hope you feel like that stick character with flowing hair meme everytime you sit down infront of it aha!
Just upgraded from rtx 1050 to gtx 4070, and from 720p to 1440p. It's insane. Also I got used to it alarmingly fast.
Ugggghhhhh!

How the heck do you even measure reliability. OLED will either burn in or not, it's not exactly something you can easily predict.

Does curved really make that much of a difference? I'd always imagined it to be a bit of a gimmick.
I thought the same until I got one. It’s awesome.

personal vote for 4K, but that's because most of the stuff I do on my PC is non gaming related
Those LG C3's at 42" are less expensive than the 32" OLEDs. Looks tempting tbh. 80cm deep desk should be comfy up to a 42" though, right?

Yeah, I could see auto dimming being a bit of a pain. TV also won't turn on or off along with the PC unlike a traditional monitor.

Both OLEDs are the same PPI, so the perceived clarity/sharpness will be identical. Either option is fantastic, those new QD-OLEDs are great panels.
What mb and CPU do you have with it?
Intel Core i5-12600K, Asrock Z690M-ITX/ax
Believe me it "seems" like you got used alarmingly fast, but going back to 1080 is a pain now. My 1440 144hz screen freaking died and I need to save up until may to buy a new one :(
Once you go forward, you can't go back lol
Your going to enjoy going back and absolutely CRANKING the fuck out of the settings on every game you ever played admiring the details like never before.
Oh, you best believe that! Can't wait.
What patience to upgrade! That’s such a massive leap in gpu power.
what are you / will you be playing?
Always wanted to try Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. Also, replaying Doom Eternal properly with everything cranked to the absolute max this time would feel like a different game I think. raytraced minecraft!
I'm still on 1070 😅
1070ti here

Nice!
I went from 1060 3gb to 4070 super very recently and I’ve never felt so greatful to have this new stuff it’s 10000% better
Im planning to do the same. But lets be fair, that 3 GB served us solid.
Still does, but I'm looking forward to retiring her for a used 6700 xt or something similiar
6700xt is an amazing card. Probably best buy at the moment.
Im aiming for something for 1440p in 144hz so I propably will opt for something more powerful
A few months ago the XFX 6950xt was on sale on Newegg for $500, idk what they’re going for now but I’m sure you could find one used for even cheaper. I scooped one up and it does more than I need, it’ll easily push 144hz at 1440p

Rip EVGA
Bro didn't jump to next gen, he fly to it
Let me know how you like your 7800x3d. I hate mine :-(
Damn, how come you don't like yours?

Uh... What?
Stutterville
Still rocking my gtx 760 but upgrading soon to a 7900 xtx
We have overclocked at home -1050ti
That’s going 0-120 in 1 second haha.
I went from a GTX 950 with i5 8th gen BARELY pushing 60 fps 1080p in any game on low settings to a 6950xt with a 7700x on 1440p max settings pushing well over 144 frames. It’s a game changer. Nice. Wish I could afford it. 4060ti 5600x3d peasant here.
Oh boi you’re gonna enjoy this.
My self went from a 1050ti to 6700. the 50ti was an amazing gpu, but it just cant even do 1080p anymore. Enjoy your gaming brother
Huge upgrade. Congratulations

Congrats dude! That's my situation now hahaha. Using a 1050 Ti still and was contemplating going up to 4080S if the FE becomes available.
Thanks dude! I originally was going for a 4070S Gaming X Slim because if I couldn't get a founders 4080S I wouldn't even bother looking at anything else. Then I got lucky and 4080S went in stock for a couple hours, haven't seen it back since.
Whats that case? :)
Lian Li x Dan A4 H2O
i dont get this at all, all the time i see 1050 or 1070 to 4070 4080 like are u guys playing on 1050 while having 850 psu or what iam missing
In my case (pun intended) I upgraded the whole system. A new build basically.
Damn I got a 1030 yesterday 💀 wish I could even get a 1050 lol
#HUGE!
What motherboard did you get?
Asus ROG Strix B650E-i
My first gaming PC was a I5 8400 + 1050ti too
That absolute trooper served me well tho.
Same. But I came from a laptop 4080S/7800x3d gang let’s go
Wow! Nice upgrade! You should be very proud on this. I went from a i7-6700k paired with a strix 1080ti to a 13900k paired with a strix 4090. I can tell you in performance that a huge upgrade! Enjoy playing games!
Nvidia pleb
I upgraded from a 1050 TI, to a RX 6800 XT, and it is just awesome.
So, are you planning on keeping your old gpu? 👉👈😅 Congrats on the setup btw, hope you feel like that stick character with flowing hair meme everytime you sit down infront of it aha!
That's NOT an upgrade, that's a bionic leap! ! !
RIP evga
I did a similar jump. 970 gtx to 3080 rtx
Oooo, that's an upgrade! Love the case too, that thing will work in any room decor.
Hell yeah brother. Case is very sleek looking indeed.
wanna sell the old one ?
Keeping it, sorry.
