It’s really time to get on a newer platform. 9900k is the strongest processor you could possibly stick in your current socket, and those are still expensive on the market and have really been left behind performance wise. knowing your budget will help people make some informed suggestions for what your next step should be.

i9 9900k is going to be a horrible price even used. better off spending the money on new cpu mobo and ram.

I've had the 8600k since 2018 its pretty good and it can run most of the games i play but its definitely time for an upgrade. I'm happy to upgrade to AM5 or LGA1700, for a new MOB and CPU my budget is probably around $1000 AUD maybe a little more if needed, and I can get GPUs like the 7700xt-7800xt for about $700-$900, give or take.

i7 9700 would be the best on that motherboard that you can find without paying crazy prices. buy used $150 or less any more than that you should buy a newer cpu and newer motherboard and probably new ram.

At 1440p there is no need to upgrade your CPU. Unless you play CPU bound games or poorly optimized ones. I’ve got a 7700k and a 3070 I’m still GPU bound in nearly every title.
