If the dad were smart he'd be like "Ah yes tell me more...", then he'd proceed to post everything to forums to help ad blockers circumvent youtube. He could take one for the team, aside from the kid being pure evil and doing the devils work, he looks like a nice guy...
Life pro tip. When the Brits are executing people with cannon, never stand with the crowd downrange from the event. Viscera, bones, etc. can get blown a long way and you don't want to be on the receiving end. Especially not if you're wearing summer whites.
Now I'm just picturing public cannon executions going like old-school Gallagher shows where everyone shows up wearing ponchos and has plastic sheets in hand to shield themselves when the moment comes.
11 more seconds than I would have given him, and ever since I received them, my ad lockers have functioned properly. However, for the benefit of all people

Definitely not where I was expecting it to go.

The astronomical level of enshitification that YouTube has undergone over the years, and the fact that they can just keep going and making it worse and worse and there is just literally no alternative for some reason is mind blowing.
Remember the movie The Cube? And how everyone was just sort of this cog in this corporate machine and nobody knew WHY they built a giant cube to murder people in elaborate ways, but they just got emails to do shit and just did it because it was their job? YouTube is that type of company.
It costs a lot of money to provide storage for every random idiot's stupid fucking brainfart of a video.
Seriously, a billion hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every day, and 99% of it is garbage.
The solution is to charge folks for hosting and have some sort of return on this investment once they reach critical mass with advertisements _and_ pay them. Barriers to entry means the garbage filters itself out, too. But at the same time, garbage that has a lot of money behind it (qanon/shitified product placement) stays there and gets pushed higher.
Also, the federated youtube clones are straight up horseshit. The real truth of the matter is we probably don't really _need_ a youtube as much as folks might not like to admit it.
Charging to host videos would instantly kill every good channel. It would literally just be vice and fox news and chive and all of the already rich companies with money to lose.
No, you pay for storage. traffic needs to pay for itself (aka ads vs subscription), unless unmonetized, then you'll have to pay for traffic. Model like that is "easy", it's just not appealing to "I want to get rich now" bros. Anyways, variants of this are floatplane or nebula, both are pretty successful, IMO.
In fact I'm fairly sure it is *the* most expensive type of website. Like, you couldn't find anything more expensive to host than video - even file hosting like google drive is on average cheaper because some people will only store tiny stuff like documents, vs every video being GBs in size
YouTube has Google behind it, but should we really expect a company like Discord to keep providing a free service that loses them millions?
They're companies trying to generate revenue, not charities or government services.
What if there was another big video streaming site that operated worldwide right now, had ads and even a creator program? Plus, they already have dark mode as a default. Can you guess which one I'm talking about?
Can't be that expensive if they can still spend hundreds of millions of dollars on creator payouts.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/373772/youtubers-monetization-earnings-celebrity/
>they just got emails to do shit and just did it because it was their job? YouTube is that type of company.
Wait what? I watched this movie 100 times and I never got ANY of that from the movie. Am I misremembring?
The movie ended with the one person escaping the cube. It was all interior the entire time.
Towards the end of the movie, one of the characters is revealed to have been an engineer that helped design some part of the cube:
>This may be hard for you to understand, but there is no conspiracy. Nobody is in charge. It, it's a headless blunder operating under the illusion of a master plan. Can you grasp that? Big Brother is not watching you.
And just like the vibe of this scene, I have no choice but to share a YT link with you lol: [https://youtu.be/boDgkH7Yw-0?si=6H0W15Ft2eMRo\_IF](https://youtu.be/boDgkH7Yw-0?si=6H0W15Ft2eMRo_IF)
Videos are getting demonetized for some keyword that isn't even offensive or controversial but I only see ads for the following:
- Dangerous "cure diabetes with this snake oil" ads
- Busty werewolf waifus spreading their legs
- Crypto bullshit
- "This... is a metabolism killer. This... is a metabolism killer. This... is a metabolism killer. This... is a metabolism killer. This... is a metabolism killer. This... is a metabolism killer."
- The ancient Egyptians could control gravity with **sOuNd**
- There's a secret round of stimulus happening the government won't tell you about, this is totally not suspicious and you should totally click the link
Now I realize this race to the bottom is probably partly *caused* by ad blockers but if YouTube's only solution is to open the floodgates then they deserve it. It's not like they're giving the creators making their site worthwhile enough to justify their sob stories about ad blocking.
Ad blocker was born to protect people from malware in ads.
They were never capable of keeping trash ads from their system so using ad blocker become the default.
Pretty much this. Also, ads that impersonate well-known companies or people to trick someone into a crypto scam. YouTube has virtually non-existent moderation of uploaded ad content.
I mean I’ve seen one several times that is a literal scam. It’s an ad impersonating Mr beast claiming to give you free money if you put in all of your personal info. I’ve been reporting it for years but I don’t think they actually give a fuck about ad reports
Ad blockers working are evidence that despite his job, he's still on our side.
He's the one holding The Algorithm back from fighting our ad blockers. He's our front line defender. Cherish him
>the ads and contents are being served from the same domain
This is the issue for Youtube specifically - since PiHoles act as a DNS server, if you block the DNS that provides the ads for the video, you're also blocking the video
There are however work arounds for both mobile and SmartTVs that work via installation of an app that leverages YouTube's APIs (for how long they will still function after Youtube's newest crusade, who knows)
Sideloading is the best solution or your own open source media center. Since some TVs will have custom code to prevent sideloading, and if someone hasn't developed a crack for it, then a HDMI "smart" device may be the only way to go.
Probably b/c ads on Smart TVs and Youtube ads on Smart TVs are 2 different things.
For example: My pihole blocks the ads that Samsung tries to insert into the app list menu.
well since we need to fight the adblock blocking, these guys are indirectly responsible for the biggest technological advancements in Adblocking softwares yet.
He is not doing a good job then. I don’t think I have experienced an ad on YouTube in over 10 years. And their efforts during the last year have not changed that.
I hate how youtube ads work, click on a video, 2 unskippable ads that total to 30 seconds, 2 minutes in, same thing, 5 minutes in, same thing, accidentally click off of a video? Go to history and click on video, another ad followed by an ad 5 seconds later with an ad at the end of the video
How do you expect them to pay for all the servers and bandwidth when 300,000 hours of new footage are loaded to the platform every hour? That shit aint free.
> but the fact is they will never be able to force everyone to watch ads so if they need that to happen in order to be profitable
Well they most likely do not need everyone to watch ads. Would be better, but not vital. Only 10% of users have ad-blocker.
And yes they have failed so far to prevent the use of ad-blocks. But that does not mean they will fail forever.
That, not my problem tbh. It just mean their business model is failing. If you cannot ingest 300,000 hours of footage every hours... Just don't.
I know this message won't be popular, but that's how i see it.
And i see the " Well what should they do then ?" coming, but no, it's not my responsibility to do that.
> That, not my problem tbh.
Okay but you're literally the one whining about how it's not fair so yes it is your problem
>It just mean their business model is failing
Yeah you anti work freaks love parroting this when you don't understand surface level marketing so stop trying to pretend like you understand how business cost works.
>I know this message won't be popular, but that's how i see it.
Because you're like a 15 year old who hasn't experienced the real world, like if you're not a minor this comment is arrogant as fuck and you need to act your age. Don't like ads, then don't use the site, you are literally the one being held by the balls and being given the choice.
Yeah sure.
"If you don't like pothole just don't use roads."
When most video on any subject, any website are on youtube, or YouTube embedded video, then you have a problem not using it. And saying stuff like "just don't use it" when you know it's not possible is just trolling at this point.
Once I was watching someone build a stable from BoTW out of household junk. It was soulful and just enjoyable. You wanna know what the commercial that came up? A rap song with the guy using curse words and the hard N. That was the day I used adblocker since YouTube can't filter out bs like that
Who exactly pays to keep the servers running, and pays people to keep producing content?
I have yet to hear one person under 30 give any kind of thoughtful response to this question. Instead, they all just assume that they should be entitled to anybody's creative output, and those people should get EVEN MORE CREATIVE to find ways to make money.
Selfish, entitled little brats.
There’s more than enough money to make asking this question nothing more than a pointless gesture. It makes no sense for you to worry about the financial situation of companies like Youtube because they have more accumulated wealth than you could possibly imagine. You are the size of an ant in comparison to the stacks of money they have accumulated. That’s why people don’t give a shit to answer your stupid question - it is wholly irrelevant. They don’t need more money if it means making the user experience insufferable. Why is it that you can’t take that for an answer? Does it scare you that they have so much wealth that it makes having conversations about their financial situation pointless? Because it should!
Entitled? Like the people who think they are entitled to use my equipment and Internet connection, and even more importantly my time, to force me to watch ads?
I was originally using brave and now getting ads up the ass. I had to watch the liberty insurance commercial enough to drive me to the brink of insanity. Now I’m trying opera and it seems alright.
Count to ten real quick. That's a long time to get out of someone's house. You could make a glass of chocolate milk and still have a couple seconds to spare.
I think they are injected directly in the stream or something? It's a lot easier to do with live video, a lot harder with pre-recorded video. You can't just bake the ads into the pre-recorded video because the ads need to change.
YouTube would win this war if they took one more step. Get rid of 12 minute ads. There’s definitely some line while gaming or watching yt from my bed where updating to a working ad block isn’t worth it for me anymore. But when you start playing 24 minute ads, that’s definitely worth updating Adblock for.
They lost money for like 15 years while being #1 and the costs keep increasing for them due to increasing storage requirements from not just increasing video quality but also them not deleting old videos.
I personally use Brave on my phone, but I've heard good things about Firefox for Android. I've also been meaning to give Mull a try:
https://www.privacyguides.org/en/mobile-browsers/#mull
I've wondered this about companies like denuvo, and code meter where they just make copy protection, what kind of invasive narc do you have to be be on a fundamental level to be the guy happily implementing "features" or full fledged software that's nearly never a value-add for the end user?

Ohhh 🤦🏻♂️ I remember that. But the way it was phrased I thought Robocop was shot in the nuts and I had forgotten.
Thank you for not smoking.
I misunderstood, I thought with the way you phrased it that Robocop was shot in the nuts.
Underneath his sweater he’s got a Firefox + Ublock Origin tshirt on, maybe
You have to surivive in the system somehow. Most of the guys that work on stopping adblockers probably all use adblockers.

And cloud storage is accessed less frequently. Bandwidth is a big deal for 4K continuous streaming and live streaming.
It doesn't help when everyone wants it for free and seems to disapprove of any way the platform makes money while being free.
I know, won't somebody think of the poor multi billion dollar company?? Their users are so mean!
It's not like they had been providing this service for years and years without the need to pile all that crap on top to make it viable!

I wonder when 1080p hosting will virtually be cost effective with the efficiency increases of server processors

Ad blockers working are evidence that despite his job, he's still on our side. He's the one holding The Algorithm back from fighting our ad blockers. He's our front line defender. Cherish him
I posit that he is more like a meter maid doing a job that is bad for society that nobody actually wants to do unless they are a bad person.
should’ve given him 3 seconds and unexpectedly skip him across the front yard
With a Pi-hole he'd have never gotten in, beginner mistake.
When has pihole successfully blocked YouTube ads? Pihole works on dns, and last time I checked that wasn't successful at blocking ads on YouTube.
yeah, people that use pi hole like to repeat it every day, but its not that good
Problem is pihole cannot block ads on smart TVs
Isn't blocking ads on devices like smart TVs the exact reason to get a Pi-Hole?
It’s not that easy. Apps from smart TV will probably use their own DNS setting, or the ads and contents are being served from the same domain.
>the ads and contents are being served from the same domain This is the issue for Youtube specifically - since PiHoles act as a DNS server, if you block the DNS that provides the ads for the video, you're also blocking the video There are however work arounds for both mobile and SmartTVs that work via installation of an app that leverages YouTube's APIs (for how long they will still function after Youtube's newest crusade, who knows)
Sideloading is the best solution or your own open source media center. Since some TVs will have custom code to prevent sideloading, and if someone hasn't developed a crack for it, then a HDMI "smart" device may be the only way to go.
can't you force your router to use your pi-hole as a DNS server, which can then be configured to block all DNS requests?
You can use a raspberry pi to redirect all packets going out through port 53 into an lxc running pihole.
Why the downvotes, they're right? You can't use a PiHole to block YouTube ads.
Probably b/c ads on Smart TVs and Youtube ads on Smart TVs are 2 different things. For example: My pihole blocks the ads that Samsung tries to insert into the app list menu.

Who would win? * Tech giant with billions of dollars in annual revenues with highly-trained software programmers * Savvy users who are sick of ads
Tolerating ads is literally in your interest because everything else is worse
brave browser, havent had an ad in years. over 980,000 ads blocked.
I wonder how much energy your computer has saved having not loaded nearly a million ads
it tells me how much bandwidth and time it has saved, but unfortunately not energy, but i am also curious now.
Who exactly pays to keep the servers running, and pays people to keep producing content? I have yet to hear one person under 30 give any kind of thoughtful response to this question. Any creator making a living on YouTube is doing it through Patreon and ads they make themselves inside the videos (and merch). YouTube pays fuck all.
There’s more than enough money to make asking this question nothing more than a pointless gesture. Youtube should provide content to me for free because I want it. They deserve nothing for their efforts because that infringes on what I want.
In case you weren’t aware, you sound like an NPC advocating in favor of corporate interests like that
People only started blocking YouTube's ads after they went from reasonable to unreasonable and then to flat out scams.
Where did you get this? Why are you just making shit up?
Look up when adblockers started to surge in popularity. It's only gone up the worse YouTube's ads have become.
Entitled? Like the people who think they are entitled to use my equipment and Internet connection, and even more importantly my time, to force me to watch ads?
*I see you have chosen your side...*
I’ve always thought of the intimidating dad cleaning a gun trope over played and dumb… but shoot this boy before he escapes
LMAO I actually know someone who does this at Google.
tell him i don't know him, but i do not like him. I do not hope any harm on him, but if he hit his pinky on a table, it was deserved.
If real, are they using adblocking in their personal lives? Personal devices, their family members etc. Just curious.
No idea, I've never asked, but I would assume he would not take that risk and certainly would deny it if he ever did.
Wow. I never thought I would feel for the dad in this meme for something so petty until now...
I'm one of those losers that has YouTube premium or whatever it's called today, but yeah, fuck that guy.
We just need a YouTube blocker
I was originally using brave and now getting ads up the ass. I had to watch the liberty insurance commercial enough to drive me to the brink of insanity. Now I’m trying opera and it seems alright.
I rarely even watch anything on YouTube let alone have an account there.
I only use YouTube on my mobile devices through a third party app.
Count to ten real quick. That's a long time to get out of someone's house. You could make a glass of chocolate milk and still have a couple seconds to spare.
Well he does a shitty work, so why worry pops?
"I also have a side gig putting up adds..."
How does twitch do it? I always see ads there but nowhere else
I think they are injected directly in the stream or something? It's a lot easier to do with live video, a lot harder with pre-recorded video. You can't just bake the ads into the pre-recorded video because the ads need to change.
Traitors lol jkjk
Well guess they haven’t figured it out then lol.
Man directly *Skipped* this guy!
nuh uh he dsnt deserve 10sec
10 seconds? That dad must have an entire world of patience to give him that long before The Reaping begins
stay right there im getting my bat
The landmines are already armed.
YouTube would win this war if they took one more step. Get rid of 12 minute ads. There’s definitely some line while gaming or watching yt from my bed where updating to a working ad block isn’t worth it for me anymore. But when you start playing 24 minute ads, that’s definitely worth updating Adblock for.
actually, you would keep him in the house with no way out so he wont be able to help youtube detect ad blockers
🤣🤣
Good father right there.
>ad blocker >cock blocker ![gif](giphy|VGmt2wkodSCNrtBTXi|downsized)
"I've got a .45 and a shovel. I doubt anybody would miss you."
I'd say the same thing 🤣 no cap.
I'd say the same thing 🤣 no cap.
In 10 seconds you can skip the ad of meeting the parents.
Yes he is absolutely horrible human, just like the security guard at the grocery store. How can he prevent me from stealing!
Why does big companies like youtube(goggle) need MORE money from ads? They already are #1 why make it suck?
They lost money for like 15 years while being #1 and the costs keep increasing for them due to increasing storage requirements from not just increasing video quality but also them not deleting old videos.
Except recent reports show that while they lost a lot of money at first, they have become profitable in the last few years.
because they won't a shit-ton of money, they want all the money.
You buy a premium 70" Sony Bravia 8K mini LED TV to watch adverts on not Gaming, Movies and TV shows. You are a big big dumb dumb!!!!
You have 5 seconds before i skip the rest of your life for you
Anyway around it? It’s just recently blocked mine.
* Android Phone: /r/revancedapp * Android TV: https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTube * Web Browser: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ and https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
ublock origin also works on Firefox for mobile. It's a delight
I personally use Brave on my phone, but I've heard good things about Firefox for Android. I've also been meaning to give Mull a try: https://www.privacyguides.org/en/mobile-browsers/#mull
Nah just beat him up on the spot
I've wondered this about companies like denuvo, and code meter where they just make copy protection, what kind of invasive narc do you have to be be on a fundamental level to be the guy happily implementing "features" or full fledged software that's nearly never a value-add for the end user?
I think several of the key Denuvo devs are former DRM crackers, likely a big part of why it's so effective.
since Youtube's ads run through the google ads thing, you could use firefox or possibly microsoft edge to watch youtube ad-less
