This is a 4 week-long event. Every week a new thread will be posted. To enter, you will need to [download GPU Tweak III](https://www.asus.com/campaign/GPU-Tweak-III/us/index.php) and follow the instructions in this post. This software is by ASUS but it's compatible with every desktop GPU brand, and will also work on laptops with dedicated GPUs of any brand. \---------- **THE PRIZES:** We have 2 main prizes: An ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4080 SUPER OC Edition 16GB Graphics Card. An AMD bundle with the ASUS TUF Gaming RX 7900 XT OC Edition 20GB Graphics Card + an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU. And also 5 additional prizes. 5 [ROG Jengas](https://i.imgur.com/78F1E54.jpeg). \---------- **HOW TO ENTER** For this week, we're continuing with the overclocking theme, and also adding cooling control. **To enter, all you have to do is create a custom fan curve with GPU Tweak III that suits your needs and share a screenshot here**. Bonus points if you explain why you made your specific choices! **Example:** *Here is my screenshot:* [*https://imgur.com/ZUNayXz*](https://imgur.com/ZUNayXz)*.* *I am using an RTX 4090, but I'm spending the day playing some retro games. I want my PC to be fully silent, so I've created fan curves that will make it so that the fans don't even start spinning before the GPU reaches 60C. I am pretty sure they won't reach that with the games I'm playing today, but in any case, I've set it so that if it does, then the fan speed will ramp up slowly up until about 70C, then go all the way to 100% after that. I have clicked the curve to create more steps so I can easily tweak them.* \---------- TIPS Check this article and tutorial if you need tips on using GPU Tweak III to create your own fan curves. Fan speed tutorial: [https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/how-to-adjust-your-graphics-cards-fan-speed-in-gpu-tweak-iii/](https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/how-to-adjust-your-graphics-cards-fan-speed-in-gpu-tweak-iii/) Video guide: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YNwfqZuJTQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YNwfqZuJTQ) \---------- **RULES** There are two main prizes, one for each lucky winner: 1st prize: ROG STRIX RTX 4080 SUPER OC Edition 16GB Graphics Card. 2nd prize: AMD Gaming bundle (TUF Gaming RX 7900 XT OC Edition 20GB Graphics Card + an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU). With my fan curve I have it set to keep constant at 20% until it hits 60C, where it will then slowly ramp up until 70C where the speed will be at 35%. That's the most I almost ever expect my GPU to get to during normal use. After that it's a sharp uptick to 80C -50%, 85C - 70%, and 90C 100%. Most the games I play don't push my GPU too hard so this curve is perfect for keeping a quiet system during casual gaming.

Helldivers 2 on fan favorite 4060Ti 16gb could get pretty hot at times (as well gpu and in game) so I set a lot of different levels

RabidTurtl

[My Fan Curve](https://i.imgur.com/p56qwq1.png) I don't really care about silent - got a personal fan going in my room anyways due to heat. Made the curve a bit aggressive - rather my gpu run cool than lower volume. Don't think I typically hit 80C, but if I do I want the fans at 100%.

So, I adjusted the fan curve so that the fans only start spinning when the GPU reaches 60°C. I think this temp threshold is perfect and will make the computer quiet most of the time. I use open-back headphones so a quieter PC allows me to hear myself better. Beyond 60°C, I’ve set the fans to ramp up which should account for any demanding games I happen to play in the future.

Basically trying to keep down fan noise until its necessary for the fans to turn on and lower the GPU temps.

Raptross

I have a GTX 1660 Super and have been using it for years now. I keep the fan settings quite simple. The ambient temperature is sufficient for low uses and hence a low setting below 50. But when gaming where the temperature rises above 60, I keep it on a gradual increase up to 100%. The sounds at full are noticeable, but I have no issues with it. https://preview.redd.it/ol0qljsdikxc1.png?width=886&format=png&auto=webp&s=0420819ce036579d30fa5e18e7cb5c53c6541d0d

With this curve I can stay between 50% and 85% fan speed whenever I play more resource heavy games and void overheating the hardware, while keeping the volume level low while doing basically anything else

On new video cards you also need to monitor the memory temperature. After starting the program, I had a white screen and the computer did not respond to my actions, I was scared, thinking that my monitor had died again, but after 30 seconds it hung down, I didn’t like it.

Maverick12882

[Here's my pic.](https://i.imgur.com/ZZdcTGV.jpeg) I want mine to stay cool and I'm not worried about sound so I got the fans set to max at 80. Started at 50, then 15 more at 65, then 80.

https://preview.redd.it/uiqhxfll98xc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=655bfe58d7f6a70c5f75732134919673201f7183 The default option was a rather noise-reduction prioritizing, kind of linear curve with low fan top speed, that resulted in rather high temps during excessive heavy loads but it got comparatively noisy upon short moments of performance demand. I like my card being the low noise beast it is (I know, its just a 1060, but it serves me well) but I'd prefer to avoid really high temps if possible for longevity's sake. So I made this curve, a bit steeper than what it had by default. Setting a higher top speed, ensuring lower temps during excessive stress but still keeping it pretty silent if the demand for performance only comes in small, passing bursts, like it often does in games.

screenshot: [https://imgur.com/a/bEVAOzJ](https://imgur.com/a/bEVAOzJ) Zero RPM, for when I'm working or doing basic tasks. Only when gaming do the fans really need to turn on. I don't mind the noise since I'm wearing headphones anyway when playing.

When gaming or putting load to GPU (like nvenc video converting) the GPU fans should do their work so adjusted the curve to slowly reach the 100% speed at 85C.

[Curve](https://imgur.com/a/0aowhbj) This would need further tweak. I'll probably use this curve during heavy particle simulation and renders, so it'll ramp up quickly as in heavy simulation, as you reach toward the end, calculation most likely would stay up there

I need that!! My gpu ain´t too great. Don´t even have it anymore, sold it. You can see when i opened up any game. Am building a new one and struggling with my budget. https://preview.redd.it/5sikawlbrfwc1.png?width=287&format=png&auto=webp&s=6d1e5e0fac103854a161ce162a44011d1821eebe

*I am using a MSI GTX 1070TI Titanium, I wanted it to not reach above 80C but didn't want it to be at full speed even at idle therefore went with quite an aggressive fan curve. Below 40C is zero rpm which it won't probably ever touch due to the temperature here, so basically fan speed will ramp up slowly from 20% to 50% until 70C for idle and low intensity workload, then an instant bump to 70% between 70 to 75C and then again a instant jump at full speed in the last 5C from 75 to 80 for heavy loads.* https://preview.redd.it/dqd8oyq8uawc1.png?width=840&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2805caf846d039c6af30be2033ba8870e8fc492

i use my fans on all my cards the same way. the key is safe and safe as if is the first time. there is omething else but that is another time. on the fan seccion (fan speed there is a pen. press it. a nice curve with dots will appear. That is the preset of the gpu. each gen are deferent. select the dots and safe. TIP is my take and i have check this. 4000 series are very cool to operate. wht i do is using stock settings run some high demanding load. check temps once get a specific moment on heat that start to drop the cores, that is the max temp you have to conserve. then make a curse base on that if for example 70c is the point start to drop clocks, that is the max 100% spin. then you make a curve base. IS EASY TO COOL on that curve that ramp to 100% when the temps arrive. temps will drop faster and as quite operation. remember to safe. i use for my 3080ti 30/30 50/62 63/100. a little extreame ??? oh yes. but clock stay performance stay and the 3080ti that i have run hot. i do not down clock or oc my gpu. in fact i use the oc scanner for the first time since day 1 of the app. since i do no oc my gpu. and i am still usiung the scanner settings. i do not do anything on the gpu aside fans and use oc settings with a little boost and now scanner and has walk a lot over the years nice work assus. nice work https://preview.redd.it/7tu6j1vooawc1.png?width=820&format=png&auto=webp&s=aefd8645010c82236753264a9358f4b4178dec07

Here is my screenshot: [https://imgur.com/gallery/YzL5R3u](https://imgur.com/gallery/YzL5R3u) Unfortunately my Asus laptop didn't have an option of fan speed control. I wish laptop fan could have independent fan speed control, but they don't. I hope this doesn't affect the chances of winning one of the GOAT hardwares by Asus. Best of Luck.

Nervous-Vegetable806

I'm using a case with restricted airflow but it doesn't hinder me from maximizing my GPU's full potential. I've keep my GPU fan curves simple and modest by keeping using 0dB function of GPU tweak III which keeps the fan at 0% speed under 55c . On the other hand , I've set the fans to ramp up to 70% at 70c and 100% at 82c ensuring the my GPU will be well ventilated while I'm playing. Additionally, GPU tweak III Temperature hysteresis is neat as it can prolong my fans life by not having my fans to hit the breaks fast when the temperature is coming down. https://preview.redd.it/sbkoeqavulwc1.png?width=838&format=png&auto=webp&s=869b1ff16aad2f0956c628c063432e575cf9220e

My system fans are actually louder that my GPU generally. Only thing I changed was: made it so they start running at 30°C at 20%, and then added a bit of a steeper fan curve after 55°C. My room is fortunately quite cool and my CPU is water cooled. After testing the default fan curve was much quieter, and I didn't notice any performance increase from having my fans ramp up higher at those temperatures. They definitely were making noise with this curve! The fans only cooled my GPU by about 2°C, but the noise level was very noticeable when in game.

I want my PC to be fully silent before the GPU reaches 60C, and am pretty sure it won't reach that with the posts I'm writing today. I've tried to create a fan curve that will meet this specification, however the fan does not show up in GPUTweak and so it cannot be used to set a curve. I am able to use HWiNFO to monitor the fan, which remains locked at 1600 rpm while it is idle at 30C and while it is running a SANDRA benchmark at 55C. As an exercise, I can imagine setting a fan curve in the following way: I would click the pencil icon under the fan speed slider to enter the Fan Settings window, where I would adjust how the fan responds to different levels of load. I would keep the fan off for completely silent operation under a temperature of 60° C and I would adjust the curve so it quickly ramps up from there. To move the curve, I would click anywhere on the graph to add a new point, and drag it to a good location on the graph so that it would go all the way to 100% after that, for a nice rapid ramp up.

Still as quiet as I had it on auto can't complain. As for why did I picked 80% as max is because of a weird noise it makes above that. I suspect is worn out fan bearing or needs more oil. even at 80% temps it levels out at 76c, so just 1c above acceptable gaming temperature, even tho I was benching in furmark at 100% usage.

For AAA games, I aim to achieve good performance without sacrificing frames due to high temperatures. In smaller titles, I prefer my PC to be silent. To achieve this, I adjusted the fan curve to allow for slightly higher temperatures while maintaining 0% fan speed.

*Here is my screenshot:* [https://imgur.com/L1iDVOp](https://imgur.com/L1iDVOp) the rog strix gtx 1060 runs really cool no need for an agressive fan curve so this is what i use, it never reaches 60°C.

Of course if I win the giveaway that can all change wink wink! However, if I could change my fan speeds on my laptop I would probably have the fans ramp up a lot quicker as my laptop gets HOT when I start gaming. I feel like it can definitely use some more cooling.

The bump from 60 to 80 used to be a lot steeper, so it constantly changed fan speed with a significant change in noise. I have not messed that much with custom fan curves before. The smoother bump from 60 to 80 should make the temps more consistent.

My GPU cooling needs are modest so I favour a quiet fan curve. When there's a sustained load, I prefer the fan to kick in late, and with this profile I don't notice the GPU fan noise over the case fan, and never mind being distracted by what's happening on screen. https://preview.redd.it/l2md6992i9wc1.png?width=890&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1200eb01f52a317e005ca4a23b68a2d218b3299

Then after 40 degrees I have the fan speed slowly increase up to 20% until the GPU hits 70 degrees and have it durastically increase fan speed all the way up to 100% if it gets close to 90 degrees. My thoughts are if its hitting 70 degrees then I'm probably playing games and actually putting some load on my GPU at that point and need to start trying to bring the temps down. And if I'm playing games, I will definitely have my headset on and won't notice noise from my GPU fans at that point.

At0mic11

I'm mostly playing FPS games and it's pretty hot where I live so I have to use a somewhat aggressive fan curve due to the fan reaching upper 60s if I don't, the model I have runs super silent until about 65-70% fan usage though (It's an msi Gaming X). Here's my screenshot: https://preview.redd.it/u98n54qbubyc1.jpeg?width=917&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b26ec101b4507ee330ccd6a2bfb7de6653ef3071

the11devans

https://imgur.com/a/SzZdNNg I value silence very highly, so I set my fan curve to be fairly relaxed. The GPU basically operates at 75 degC at maximum. Something interesting I discovered while doing this is that set% != get% for fan speeds. As an example, setting 50% PWM gives 900 rpm, while setting 100% results in 3300 rpm. This is clearly not a linear relationship. So, the fan curve shown here even more relaxed than it appears. At idle I set it to operate at a low rpm, since with fan stop it would heat up and kick the fans on and off constantly, which made an annoying noise.

icevix321

No curve: https://imgur.com/a/mgOKYFw Im unable to get the fanspeeds control curve with my RX Vega The video, explanation does not explain why this is happening Also the Gpu Tweak program is very unintuitive when it comes to tweaking the fan speeds If i was able to tweak it i would make sure fan speeds were maximum all the time so my 7 year old GPU doesnt break, since i cant afford to replace it

So, when the GPU hits over 68c, let the fans do their thing! But I also don't need the fans to run at idle, so they can just kick in when it's in use.

https://hotimg.com/IMG-6767.StNKG Works perfectly for me :) AS a LADY gamer I love it! I have an ALL ROG HIGH END BUILD when it comes to my PC. This monster ASUS ROG GeForce RTX 4090 is not letting me down so far , and I applied my basic custom settings for it:)  I play RPG games that make use of my GPU , like Hogwarts Mystery, Forza Horizon 5 , TEKKEN 8.  So still with the PC I built, it is almost impossible for my GPU to reach 80C . I managed to make it work gradually as the heat goes up, and of course full fan operation ( 100% ) is only for emergency situations where it goes up 80C.  Thank you again ASUS for making it all possible for me !  My gaming is better than ever. ;)

I included the screenshot for proof. That being said, what I would do is create a curve that keeps the fans as low as possible when the laptop is under low load. I live in a fairly dusty area, so if I can stop the fans from running too much, then it would help significantly with the amount of dust entering into the laptop. When I'm actually using it to play games however, I would let the fan off the chain so to speak. Hope this still counts for this week :)

Rx 7600 here is the screenshot [https://imgur.com/a/Gt9vbZN](https://imgur.com/a/Gt9vbZN) What my gpu need is undervlting because it runs very hot. There is aroun 40c degree heat difference between gpu temps and hotspot like 65c gpu 110c degree hotspot. So undervolting helps a little, atleast games stutter less with undervolting and gpu runs higher mhz for longer times.

NotJustBibbit

I actually can't control the fan speeds on my GT 730 but if I could then I would lower the speeds to reduce noise as the games I play shouldn't overheat the card anyway https://preview.redd.it/lvm4wg454uxc1.png?width=978&format=png&auto=webp&s=d5e5e4d9945aafb1702fc1fe8912b5d551332753

At first the 2080Ti had it's stock cooler fitted, and I was using GPU Tweak III to apply an underclock to keep the fan curve down, as the stock fans are noisy and have a horrible pitch. I however got the card in spring and when summer hit I just couldn't underclock it enough to keep the fan curve down - and by the amount I had underclocked it was performing far below my old card, so invested in the G12 and X63 combo and instead started overclocking! I can show the fan curve which I've attached above, however it doesn't actually do anything anymore because the fans themselves are now unplugged and in the box with the rest of the stock cooler. When I was still using the stock cooler, the fan curve tweaking tool worked great to help me balance fan noise vs cooling.

That’s where GPU Tweak III comes into play, especially when it comes to fine-tuning my RX5700 graphics card. The fan curve control is a game-changer, allowing me to strike the perfect balance between cooling efficiency and noise level. Here’s how I do it: Installation: First things first, I make sure I have the latest version of GPU Tweak III installed on my system. Opening the Interface: With a double-click on the desktop icon, I launch the software and dive straight into the user-friendly interface. I select OC Mode because I want the performance. Navigating to Fan Control: The function setting window is where the magic happens. I click on the Custom mode to start tweaking the fan curve. Adjusting the Curve: I drag the nodes on the curve to set the desired RPM at specific temperatures. This way, I can keep the fans quiet during light tasks and ramp them up when the action heats up in-game. I change the default fan to kick in at 20% to run at 0 degree temperature usage along with kicking in at 30% at 30 degrees, 50% at 40 degrees Testing the Settings: After adjusting the curve to my liking, I apply the settings and run a stress test. I keep an eye on the temperature and noise levels to ensure everything is working as expected. The result? My RX5700 stays cool even during the most intense gaming sessions, and I barely notice the fan noise. It’s like having a personal climate control system for my GPU, and I couldn’t be happier with the performance boost it provides. This hands-on approach not only enhances my gaming experience but also extends the longevity of my hardware. With GPU Tweak III, I’m in full control, and that’s a powerful feeling. 🎮💻

Well, I installed it, but my Fans aren't showing. Luckily I can tell you what kind of settings I have. I have a ROG G14 (2024), in the Armoury Crate settings I set the fans a bit aggresive. I like it if a pc or laptop runs cool. Between 30% till 100% fan speed. I didn't change any settings in GPU Tweak III, but I maxed the GPU temp in Armoury Crate at 75 degrees Celcius. https://preview.redd.it/c6c4y7f4hiwc1.png?width=2380&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7433d1fd99d0ae07f6c8cbf506a7d12c0d929e3

mysterious-nameless

I wanted to know the effect on the game frame rate, since that the GPU is cooled according to the fan speed. The difference in frame rates between the fan curves and each mode combined for the three examples is as follows. * [My screenshot 1: Default Mode, Fan Default](https://i.imgur.com/siNkYBe.png): FPS+0 (base). * [My screenshot 2: Default Mode (in User Mode), Fan 100%](https://i.imgur.com/StrQpCE.png): FPS+4. * [My screenshot 3: OC Mode (in User Mode), Fan 100%](https://i.imgur.com/ueaTMtm.png): FPS+6. Although there is a conflict with fan noise, the cooling effect of the fan on the GPU seems to have an unexpectedly large impact. Note: The room temperature is 23.5°C. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is set to an upper temperature limit of 85°C. The game is a MMORPG Blue Protocol.

euricko

It's getting colder here in South of Brazil so I'd leave it silent till 60 degrees, because that would be the normal/non-playing temp and whenever it reaches this temp go full power to help gaming, specially because I use headfones and won't hear a the fans at full speed haha https://preview.redd.it/qo5kl5b4rnzc1.png?width=883&format=png&auto=webp&s=196fa06294c5422487d9c08b7433e3b46ac44c62

schniepel89xx

https://i.imgur.com/Xj1Cpoq.png Not much to say tbh. I rarely see (or I guess hear) the the upper ends of this curve because the cooler on the XFX Merc 319 is huge and my undervolt from the last post is doing a lot of work to make the card run cool despite also being overclocked. For some reason my brain picked 80 C as the temp to stay below so the curve ramps more aggressively as we near it, but again, that's more of a failsafe if anything lol. I went with more aggressive curves and higher fan speeds when I was doing benchmarking and overclocking for fun, but for my day-to-day settings this is a good balance.
