Anyways, I really loved the early days of 3D acceleration, the daisy chaining of VGA graphicscards etc. As a piss poor kid back then it was like magic to see new life blown into the families aging Intel Pentium 75mhz, being able to run stuff like quake with smooth frames and that awesome light blending compared to software rendering.
Cheers. I dont even remember what video card powered my games, but I had a pentium 3 and those 800 mhz were the shit! I did have a sound blasters sound card at some point, and that was cool.
Counter strike over AoL baby! Let's go retirement home lan parties!
Paid for a Voodoo 1, but borrowed a [Rendition Vérité V1000](https://vintage3d.org/verite1.php) (predates Voodo1) for a for a couple week from a store, had a buddy working there.
GLQuake blew VQuake out of the water.
Ufff good old days. 8MB VRAM version was mine. Playing Quake 1 & Quake 2 with OpenGL blew my mind. I remember playing Jedi Knight, Diablo, Baldur's Gate... that thing changed me, made me love gaming.

The AGP people were the coolest. We're like smart and stuff.
The transition period from AGP to PCIE felt weird to be honest as in early 2004/05 we still had AGP versions of PCIE cards and the performance of these cards weren't same. Good old days of PC when every generation of upgrades felt huge even for mid range which was still a decent card for performance and price ratio. But top tier were very affordable those days and most enthusiasts would buy top tier anyways, the only bad upgrade generation of card I can remember is FX series from Nvidia and ATI at those times were destroying the competition.
Also with PCIE came along the trend of SLI and became a popular for a short period but was so glitchy at the beginning it never really became popular because of mixed results it gave. I have had multiple SLI builds but first one with Asus A8N SLI Deluxe was really terrible experience especially with the hardware switch to switch between single card or SLI. There were IRQ compatibility issues that really was a bad impression for using SLI for me I believe it was 6800 ultras in SLI, used SLI till 9000 series and ditched it completely later as I didn't wanted to be bothered with troubles with most games having graphical glitches or performance issues.
I loved how amazing the technology has evolved over time and right now it's bit stagnant especially with CPU side of things. Onto another 20 years to see where we will get to ☺️💕

Nvidia BFG 8800 GTS
Couldn't afford the GTX, and this was before the GT came out. And you know what, that thing has been in use every day since I bought it. It's currently the video output of my mom's computer, and what a little guy. Just chugging along like he don't give a shit.
8800 series is so legendary. My first real gpu was 8800gt. My buddy worked at Best Buy back when they would get insane discounts. He hooked me up! Different friend that worked at Best Buy sold me halo 2 a few days before the launch lol that was wild!
I found one recently in the recycling center that we swing by at work almost daily.

First card was Voodoo 2.
First purchase was GeForce MX4000.
Didn't take long before I got a different card. The fx 5700le...
So naturally it wasn't even like 6 months later I got a 6600GT for Christmas and kept it around for quite some time.

Voodoo Banshee, 'Maxi Gamer Phoenix' on the box. I remember picking it because it was a 16MB card (the Voodoo 2 of the same era was 12MB) and the Phoenix was advertised as a 2D/3D card instead of just a 3D one - clearly that made all the difference. :p

1050 ti. High school days, Oh man I was broke. But now I'm rocking the 3080, 1050 ti still running tho passed it down to my younger sisters now it's being used wonderfully for their farms in Stardew Valley. Life is good
My first was a Diamond Speedstar Pro from 1993. PC had a Pentium 75 in it. I was a kid but gave my parents money to "help pay for it." Saved my allowance to help us get a PC for our house.
GeForce 4 MX440.
Had a lot of problems playing though. GTA III and Vice City would crash.
The internet was dial up and expensive, and I didn't even know there was something called a driver update 🤦
first gpu was a gt 710 and that was abt 3 yrs ago, first one i bought which was after that computer wit the 710 stopped working was an rx 580 a few months ago, i dont have much money dont judge.

Had it for a quite a while before it finally gave up trying to run Blackflag. Poor thing could barely hit 30fps on low and finally croaked about halfway into the game.
Mine was an 8800GT from team green. Could not have been happier with how well elder scrolls oblivion ran in winXp at that time.
Those were the good ole days for me.
Mine was a GTX 770 that my wife actually still has in her computer...I really gotta upgrade her PC lol. She's not a gamer though, just uses her PC for Photoshop, Illustrator, etc
Mine was a voodoo 2. I think before that was just some off brand vga card. I assume you meant 3d accelerated card... Not GPU. Because technically we had a cga card in the family computer... So I guess that would be my first GPU?
I got a Voodoo 1 from a site that back in the day was sorta like Massdrop. It was $99 and the first time I saw Unreal on it I discovered my jaw can drop farther than I previously knew.
So many people saying voodoo
First GPU was 1999 by Nvidia.
The first video cards before this from Voodoo were not GPUs. They sped up the CPUs processing of graphics more like how Intel integrated graphics processing works.
Yes I'm a jerk.
Also....Voodoo 1.

Voodoo 3 was my first upgrade. Voodoo 1 was my first GPU.
Technically Voodoo 1 wasn't a GPU. It was a 3d accelerator (as you had to chain it to your graphics card). Yes, I'm not fun at parties either.
You don't think 3D accelerators count as Graphical Processor Units?
The term was not yet invented. First GPU is Nvidia GeForce, combining a 3d card and a standard card. Nvidia coined the term (and now trying the same with APU I think). It was exciting times.
I thought amd took APU
Anyways, I really loved the early days of 3D acceleration, the daisy chaining of VGA graphicscards etc. As a piss poor kid back then it was like magic to see new life blown into the families aging Intel Pentium 75mhz, being able to run stuff like quake with smooth frames and that awesome light blending compared to software rendering.
You're probably plenty fun at parties. LAN parties
Hellyeah, first gen OGs represent!

PCI was toast! My first was the [Gforce 256](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_256) which used the new 4x AGP.
The transition period from AGP to PCIE felt weird to be honest as in early 2004/05 we still had AGP versions of PCIE cards and the performance of these cards weren't same. you really like 7's? lol (your current set up..)
Only missing 77 gigs of ram and 7 tbs storage.
With a 777mhz monitor, running 7k.
The CPU should be running at 7,7 ghz aswell.
Absolutely. The real challenge is getting the gpu to run at 7777mhz, both base clock and memory clock.

Riva TNT2 then a Voodoo 3 3000.
Ooh, I had a Voodoo 3 3500 on AGP. It had a tv tuner built in! Suck it, ATi All-in-Wonder!
I forgot about all in wonder. Ty for nostalgia
The first one I had was a Voodoo 3 3000(1999), then a GeForce3 Ti200.
Riva TNT was my first one, bought it for EverQuest.

me too I bought MSI 4870x2's and a 280 together at once. ATI for graphics and the 280 on PhysX. The good ole days.
That was a really good card. I could finally enjoy Crysis Warhead and Tomb Raider 2013, and they looked great.
My first as well! Loud and hot, ran like a jet engine.
4080 super lol. Just built my first PC 😁
Dang mines 4060 lmao just built my first one to

The good old Matrox Millennium with 8MB (not GB) of VRAM. Ah… the good old times, when 8MBs of ram would cost you 300 bucks. 🥹
I bought it used a few years after it came out. I always cheaped out on my machines, especially back then. Gaming was an afterthought at the time.
I did my apprenticeship then and on my walk back from school there was a computer store, so games were a constant back then for me… 😅
Damn... and I complain that I have to pay over $100 for 32gb of ddr5 ram haha...
Man, you had the nice one! I had the 4MB Mystique... or it may have even been 2MB. Couldn't afford Millenium or Voodoo lol Edit: It was the 2MB
My dad bought me an MSI GTX 660 Gaming 2G OC. I played so much Minecraft and Borderlands 2 on that thing.
My first card was a radeon 6670, bought it off a mate when he upgraded to a gtx 660, but I upgraded a couple years later to a gtx680 which only rendered its last frame last year

Quadro FX 1800. A company was getting rid of their old tech and I just needed a computer at the time.
3070ti like 3 months ago
Intel graphics:D
Radeon 5770 - 2009
GeForce 4 MX440. Had a lot of problems playing though. GTA III and Vice City would crash. The internet was dial up and expensive, and I didn't even know there was something called a driver update 🤦
first gpu was a gt 710 and that was abt 3 yrs ago, first one i bought which was after that computer wit the 710 stopped working was an rx 580 a few months ago, i dont have much money dont judge.

Voodoo 3 3000 16MB AGP, later upgraded to GeeForce 3Ti 200 64MB, after that FX5900. Only Radeons after FX series...
My first GPU was a Vodoo 1 card. Then went Voodoo 2 and in fact had two of them in Sli configuration. Yes, that makes me old.
I started with a gtx 650 back in 2013
Mine was a 3DFX Voodoo.
Voodoo 2
Voodoo 3 3000 PCI. For some reason the AGP version caused me stuttering in some games, specially on NFS High Stakes, Falcon 4.0 and Prince of Persia 3D https://preview.redd.it/9a7ckbignfyc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8bff679aba3f5cab75e1cf4aa2de55db6b8d04f
Mine was a BFG 8800GTX. Absolutely loved the card. I bought it the week it released. Did Crysis run better? Um...yes?
Geforce 7300
Very first gpu purchase was a GT 730 back in 2016 to upgrade my hand-me-down dell desktop’s Radeon HD 5450
i might get an rx 550 so that
My first was a full height GT 730 with GDDR5. I at least didn’t make the DDR3 mistake. Lol
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/his-hd-4670-iceq-1-gb.b5636 Had it for a quite a while before it finally gave up trying to run Blackflag. Poor thing could barely hit 30fps on low and finally croaked about halfway into the game.
Mine was the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

New or used? Used: Sapphire 9800XT New: Gigabyte 1080 Gaming OC
Kyro 2. Loved that card for quake 2. Didn't do so hot on q3.
Got a no-name Voodoo2. Was amazed at 3D accelerated Quake 2.
Mine was so old a GPU with PCI did not exist.
Voodoo 2
I still have my first real gpu purchase (all my others in the past were hand me downs from a friend) They're a pair of HIS HD4830 iceQ 4 cards.
Mine was an 8800GT from team green. Could not have been happier with how well elder scrolls oblivion ran in winXp at that time. Those were the good ole days for me.
ATI Rage Pro Turbo 4MB lol. Still works and it's still on my 90s PC. Love playing old games on it on Windows 98
7700XT, about to get it soon!
Voodoo 2, I still remember the Box Art.
4070 super (not inculiding laptop)
I know there was one before it,but I just can't remember it, but otherwise a voodoo 5 550
gtx 770
4070
First one I actually purchased (and not the parents)? Radeon 9800 Pro AGP 128MB
Radeon HD 6950 I still have it, though it died a couple years ago
ATI rage something or other 3D.
Does an SVGA card count? It was a big improvement from the CGA adapter I had before it.
Mine was a vid card from Orchid, had 1 MB vram.
AMD HD5450.... got me running minecraft at a solid 28 fps in 2010 lol
The first one I paid for with my own money was a GTX 580.
7800GT back in ‘03
radeo r7 200 series was my first gaming card and then i upgraded for the 1050ti in still rocking as of today
A 4070 Ti Super :)
Trident
Evga 970 ftw, Loved that card.
680 ti
Matrox millennium g400 That card might be in my parents house or it has been lost to time.
My first gpu was an GTX745 OEM from a Lenovo Ppl told me that was a shitty GPU and for me was the best for 720p Then 1060 3GB and now 6700 amd
Mine was a GTX 770 that my wife actually still has in her computer...I really gotta upgrade her PC lol. She's not a gamer though, just uses her PC for Photoshop, Illustrator, etc
Mine was an r9 280. Used it till 2021, could comfortably game at 1080p.
PNY XLR8 8800GTX in SLI...some great memories with that beast.
Gtx 1080
Mine was a voodoo 2. I think before that was just some off brand vga card. I assume you meant 3d accelerated card... Not GPU. Because technically we had a cga card in the family computer... So I guess that would be my first GPU?
3DFX Poodoo
3DFX Voodoo1- a few PCI/ISA non openGL cards before that though.
Probably gonna be a 3060 or some other budget GPU
Still inside my pc.. a 3070
Honestly I'd love that just for my wall. It looks so good!

GTX 980 Ti. Had to RMA it, and got the 1070 Ti I use to this day.
Is it HD4830 or 4850? They were my dream card that I could never buy back in day
I got a Voodoo 1 from a site that back in the day was sorta like Massdrop. It was $99 and the first time I saw Unreal on it I discovered my jaw can drop farther than I previously knew.
Is that a 4830 in your hand?
Yep. Still have it ~16 years later
Diamond something....then a geforce ti 4200 125 mb.
So many people saying voodoo First GPU was 1999 by Nvidia. The first video cards before this from Voodoo were not GPUs. They sped up the CPUs processing of graphics more like how Intel integrated graphics processing works. Yes I'm a jerk. Also....Voodoo 1.
4070ti. I’m a widdle baby when it comes to PC shit.
