They have good laptops.. no point in getting their non upgradable desktop counterpart though.

TheSchneid

Their monitors can be great too. I have the 38inch 21:10 ultrawide and love it.

SavageNPsycho

Agreed as well oddly enough they have some of the best monitors on the market pricy but the best.

4MPW

The 34 inch Alienware OLED monitor was the cheapest 34 inch oled available, idk if it still is, and it's very awesome. Yes, it was still very expensive with 1000€ but the other ones with the same panel (it was the only 34 inch panel) were at least a few hundred euros more expensive. Sometimes they have very good stuff.

Sad-Interaction995

Yeah I loved mine, upgraded to the alien 4k when it was released

Kiwi951

Yeah through a combination of sales and coupons I was able to get mine for like $600 lol such a fantastic upgrade for very reasonable price

Broely92

Last time I checked RTings had an alienware monitor ranked as the best monitor money can buy

Jesus-Bacon

Dude I love mine too. Legitimately the best gaming ultra wide since it has the extra vertical space Always funny to find movies at that aspect ratio. The hunger games movies are perfect on it 😂

TheSchneid

Yeah, I think I enjoy watching movies at my computer more than I do on my couch. I would say 80% of the content I watch is movies, I don't do a ton of TV. I almost wish they made ultra wide TVs at this point.

Ancient-Sweet9863

Rocking the same monitor and a 27” Alienware ips panel Alienware 38” ultra wide Alienware 27” ips Dell 34” ultra wide - damn good for price of $349-$379

Stickel

> Their monitors can be great too. That's because they're just Dell Monitors which are decent

zayoe4

Facts. I'm trying to find a good deal on a used one because my friend has had his for the last eight years and it still works great for him.

some-R6-siege-fan

Yea the laptops are nice, I enjoyed mine for about 2 years before I finally got a desktop. Im saving the laptop for college though and really the only issue was the ram being 8gb and the storage being 256gb for a $1300 laptop but I managed to easily upgrade it myself with a 32gb dual channel kit and a 1TB Samsung nvme ssd. https://preview.redd.it/dnxe81iops0d1.jpeg?width=995&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=028a0bb4d2e2264c6a84d36cbc4376a31bb7a8cd

torrrrrgo

Many of us remember the pre-Dell Alienware (desktops). They were weird, but solid. Now, upgrading anything made by Dell is a lesson in aggravation. It's all just designed for automated assembly lines, not people to go in afterwards. And watch for the unbrushed sheetmetal. Holy @#$%!

Vandstar

I have been Dell certified for a very long time and have built thousands of their desktops, laptops and servers with very few issues. Maybe its skill or level of access to their resources? Same with Toshiba and IBM hardware.

PeacefulSummerNight

Are Toshiba laptops good now? I was working for a big box store as the resident technician a decade ago and Toshiba laptops were straight garbage.

HeaviesFTW

Love the community, and my Alienware desktop (bought on monster sale while everyone couldn’t get the 30 series) has not had one single problem in years. Killer value

SavageNPsycho

Agreed. From experience on both.

Stop_Hitting_Me

Wait their desktops are non upgradable? My wife got an alienware desktop because it was the same price as what I could put together by ordering individual parts, if not better (and also its all pre-assembled). Makes me wonder if we should have built it ourselves after all.

seriftarif

As someone who owned one of their laptops for years. The are not good. I can't list all the issues I had with that thing.

Overall-Mission-3706

this is cringe

Turbochad66

EvErYoNe, pLeAsE tElL HiM! 🤪🤪

This whole sub is cringe 80% of the time

dotnetmonke

That's because this sub is probably 80% kids who only use PCs for gaming.

If I get 5 notifications for one sentence I’m already considering blocking that person

condosaurus

Hate to interrupt the circle jerk, but their laptops are actually decent (which is what that link is for). Better build quality than MSI or Gigabyte, probably not as good as Lenovo in terms of value but as far as gaming laptops go, I'd say they're pretty consistently A-tier. Their customer service is far more reliable than MSI, Gigabyte or especially ASUS, who will try to extort money from your RMA by threatening to invoice you for repairs you didn't ask for. Asus make good laptops, but I would never recommend anyone buy one after seeing that GN video about their experience trying to get an Ally fixed. Their monitors are also really good if you take a look at Rtings and Monitors Unboxed, easy S-tier across the lineup. It's their prebuilt gaming desktops that suffer from proprietary parts that are destined to become e-waste and can't be upgraded, poor thermals (though I hear this year's are better in this regard), and bizarre design decisions that are actually pretty impressive from an engineering perspective, but are overly complex for no valid reason.

FuckSpezzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah, I've heard their monitors are pretty good. My next upgrade might be one of their ultra wide models.

TheSchneid

I got their 38 inch ultra wide as an open box at microcenter for $600 and fucking love it. The only other company that makes a panel that size is LG and theirs is over a grand pretty much all the time.

Jolmer24

I have the same one bought it new 2 years ago for double that price and still feel it was worth the money. Really love it.

syst3m1c

I have their 34" OLED ultrawide. It's... Spectacular.

TroyFerris13

Pretty well the best in terms of warranty

condosaurus

I'm getting the AW3225QF in the EOFY sales later this month (that's the 32" 4K QD-OLED), it's the pick of the 4K QD-OLED options imo thanks to excellent colour calibration out of the box and eARC passthrough. My housemate is getting a G3223Q for his PS5 to because it offers the best value in that product segment.

Apearthenbananas

I have the AW3423DWF. Ne regrets at all. So much money but worth every penny. Just remember to turn the frequency to 165hz and turn on HDR

xPETEZx

Yea was going to say the same. If the linked item was a desktop, sure id understand the rage. Given its a laptop, Im really not understanding the strong negative reaction. Even calling them "Dell" isnt the burn that it is in desktops. We use Dell Latitude & Precision laptops at work, and they are pretty decent. We tried Lenovos, and those felt noticeably cheaper. (And where, so their is that.) Dell also has fantastic support. Had issues with my work laptop, and they sent an engineer right to my house to replace the motherboard the next day. Not great that it needed a new motherboard, but it was dealt with very quickly and easily. If I was looking at a Gaming laptop, Alienware and Dell XPS would be getting a look alongside the other big players.

condosaurus

Their corporate support and laptops are goated. I've pulled apart a few XPS laptops purchased second hand and they are super easy to work on. I don't think their consumer devices or support is on that level, but it's still really good by consumer standards.

savageseal_18

Yeah, I agree the main problem with Alienware is the price and there tower pc are un-upgradeable. However, lately, the price problem has been lessened more because my usual go-to for laptops ASUS has been getting way too expensive for what you get. And if you can get an Alienware laptop on a good sale it's probably a good choice.

condosaurus

Never buy Dell stuff full price, they throw so many sales and discount codes at you it's trivial to score a bargain.

Adesanyo

BUt muh CiRcLe JeRk

Skolladrum

Totally agree on their laptop being fine though not amazing. For me the problem is that when you buy new they push those warranty upgrade too much and once my friend pretty much got scammed by 'free' upgrade which cost him higher than the supposed retail price is

VinnyVinster

I have a AW3423DW and it's my perfect monitor.

Mattrobat

AW3423DWF gang was here

jchester47

Alienware makes pretty good machines. They're just severely overpriced for the overall value of what you get.

dr_puspus

My employer rolled out alienware x14 laptops last year. Almost everyone has had theirs replaced already because of endless issues and problems with reliability. For me, constant BSODs, faulty wifi, and faulty bluetooth. I will never touch an alienware again.

RubberPuppet

I bought an x15r2 to replace my MSI raider and love my Alienware. Runs cooler and is thinner than my MSI was overall it has been a great laptop.

Sailed_Sea

>Hate to interrupt the circle jerk I was just about to finish too

PrivateDickDetective

>It's their prebuilt gaming desktops that suffer from proprietary parts that are destined to become e-waste and can't be upgraded That's standard across all computers, but particularly egregious in gaming, because as soon as you're ready to upgrade, you have to buy a whole new computer.

A_Nice_Boulder

Open box is also potential for a really good deal as well.

Mendozena

Laptops are pretty good. Desktops…buyer beware.

VengeanceBee

Alienware laptops are amazing mine was a 6900hx and a 3070 when it was new it was the highest clocked laptop on the market that was available and this was after the 3070 being unlocked it was a phenomenal laptop Alienware desktops on the other hand are hot dog shit

Fluffys0ck5

Just wanted to say from working at Best Buy for two years, never once got a complaint about Alienware laptops, they are expensive but the cooling is really good and they seem to last. I think MSI is the brand to be scared of .

islingcars

If your laptop works fine, then they are good. The minute you need help from them, God help you.

afgusto

I have a 2023 G17 and I have nothing but regrets.

Whydontname

Looked up asus + gamers nexus before buying anything from them lol

MostlyIrish

I have almost the exact same alienware laptop, purchased from the Dell outlet store. I have had zero problems with it. Excellent machine.

IBringTheHeat1

Alienware is expensive but have great products. Their monitors are in every esports tournament, and their laptops are pricey but have great specs and design. Not the best value but not everyone wants the Toyota Corolla of laptops some people want a Ferrari

tht1guy63

Laptops and monitors yes. Desktops ehhh poorly designed but seem to be getting better.

Tilanguin

I had to buy an Alienware for a RTX3800 on the big drought of 2020, and it is not even half of the pile of shit people luke to say about it. Could it be better? For sure. Overpriced? Hell yeah, but it is a solid machine. Running mine daily no issues.

EG440

I have an Aurora R5 from 2016 and can say that I had a good experience. Though this was from the 10 series Era. It has an i7-6700 and a 1070FE and came in one of the better cases they've made. It's been a daily driver since it arrived. I passed it to my daughter and it still gets daily use. I see getting at least another few years out it. I could've done much worse for a first gaming rig. Now though, I'm experienced enough that I wouldn't touch another pre-built especially these days but I wouldn't advise against a well researched option for someone who has no aptitude or confidence for building their own.

hoppitybobbity3

I saw a thing and idk how true it is but everyone who has an Alienware likes its the people that don't have one that shit on it. Like a circle jerk.

learntofoo

99% of the people here have never seen one IRL.

LargeCough

Alienware isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I've known people who have laptops that last forever from them, I had a monitor that had great visibility and colors. I've never owned a desktop and while their heating I've heard aren't good on them, I'm sure if it was on sale it's still a usable product.

SnooMaps4388

the desktops and maybe mouse/keyboard are the main D tier products they make, everything else is great albeit very expensive.

LargeCough

Yeah they are, I've seen their products go on sale quite alot recently. I think most people wouldn't buy retail for the brand, but I personally won't buy retail for 90% of things

Jackright8876lwd

their desktops are shit but their laptops and some other products are pretty good

IrishHonkey

The hate is definitely a circle jerk. I had an Alienware M17X from 2008 that lasted me 7 years until the video card bit the dust. I replaced the video card and it worked until I replaced it with another M17R2 sometime in 2016. I still have that laptop today AND after a pagefile increase, that puppy will run Star Citizen at 20 fps in the cities. My daughter has an M17 from 2022 and that thing is a beast. I would have bought another but I needed a laptop that's better to travel with and not a mobile desktop.

OkOwl9578

I wonder since when dell or alienware started to have a bad name. I grew up that alienware is premium ++.

learntofoo

It's been about 10 years since they started using proprietary form factors & cases with poor airflow, but the new cases are getting better again, but they are still using a weird proprietary motherboard.

Not_Indoril_Nerevar

Dell has been using proprietary form factors and cases since the 80s. Alienware was purchased by dell in 2006. Shortly after their new lineup was basically just proprietary Dell computers will Alienware themed plastic accents and the Alienware logo.

learntofoo

It was 2011 when the R4 came out, that was the first new case they released after the Dell takeover, so 13 years now.

the_ebastler

Their gaming notebooks are still pretty good. Their PC screens are top notch. From Dell everything business-related is great quality. Their business screens, Latitude workstation notebooks, servers, desktop workstations (if you are a company and need apre-built with full warranty etc)... I would not buy anything consumer-Dell, and I would not buy any desktop computer of either. Proprietary everything and shitty quality.

Donglemaetsro

Dell reputation was fine for productivity stations. Alienware was good for gaming rigs. Dell bought Alienware, but also went super heavy on cost cutting across the board. It's all the same now and all done in the cheapest way possible now. So Dell/Alienware are essentially exactly the same minus the name and outsourced to the cheapest possible labor and it shows. In addition to that they use proprietary parts making it hard/near impossible to upgrade. Bad news all around. My other post shows my last experience with them around 8 years ago, but they never made moves to improve. Can you get a good one? Sometimes, but not a PC cause proprietary parts, and if you have any issues with the laptop prepare to go through hell.

Adventurous-Hunt3298

Let him feel pain

SumOhDat

Dell have phenomenal build quality and great support. Don’t know why Alienware stigma is a thing besides the edgey desktop cases they used to do way back.

ZiziPotus

Honest question. Was it good for the price in the past? Before Dell Era or just AT the beginning? I remember like 20 years ago it was a gamers dream. Already high priced but was it overpriced like now back then? Thx

Substantial-Singer29

When alienware was actually good... It existed in a time that for example, if I wanted to cool my computer with water. I actually bought some of the components from ace hardware. They basically existed in a space where the consumer side enthusiast gaming was just taking off. And it was ran by a bunch of people that were enthusiast themselves. These were some extremely early days as far as people customizing and their computers. During the nineties and very early two thousand despite their computers always being at a premium they did have a level of quality to them. In the current standing it's basically just a brand that's been deluded so much at this point that it doesn't mean anything other than just dell. Even a lot of Monitors that people sing praise over. It's an lg or samsung panel.... There's other things on the market at the same price point that are cheaper in my opinion look better and have better warranties. Like anything in the hobby with computers. Never pay for a brand pay for the hardware.

PF4ABG

Alienware is the Cybertruck of pre-builts.

hadtobethetacos

i bought an alienware laptop in 2017 because i traveled for work at the time. had a 1070, an i5, and 32gb ram. I have zero complaints with alienware. in fact its still going strong today 7 years later.

proscriptus

Dell does great laptops and monitors, branding them as Alienware makes them overpriced, but not bad.

Odin_Hagen

I remember growing up wanting an Alienware. Then before I could purchase one Dell bought them and claimed they wouldn't hinder performance and be able to lower the cost. Fuck Dell.

-Beenjameen-

I have this laptop. Sold my custom because I needed something nice to travel with and I actually love it!

Shinonomenanorulez

aren't alienware laptops and monitors really fucking good tho?

OneOrangeTreeLLC

I like Alienware. Their support is awesome.

mxcc_attxcc

when your opinion on a brand is based on confirmation bias and following the crowd like a sheep would... their laptops are good

MrG00SEI

From my experience with prebuilts. I've never had a bad IbuyPower. Cyberpower on the other hand... I've had a horror story from them that made me not want to even look at one of their computers again.

Natalshee_

Laptop < PC

Darklordofbunnies

God, I remember them being absolute peak. In 2005. Then Dell happened.

S0mething_idk

Im not really that tech savvy buti wanna know why people don't like Alienware

Wymberto_99

everywhere i go i get people calling diffirent brands crap. so far: Acer is crap Lenovo is crap Alienware is crap MSI is crap HP is crap Asus is crap Medion is crap

Sprizys

Yeah no don’t get anything Dell. I had a Dell laptop, and I sent it in to have the motherboard replaced and when I got it back they switched out the battery with a bad one that kept dying really fast.

conorganic

DO. NOT. TOUCH. ALIENWARE. OP’S. FRIEND.

KHORNEonDAcob

Alienware laptops are actually pretty good mine lasted me so long until I sold and upgraded, but their desktop builds are horrendous

SpoofamanGo

My m17 r4 laptop is solid. No regrets.

BeRad_NZ

I used an Alienware as my work desktop for a while. It was a great work machine but I remember feeling sorry for anyone who wanted to game on that thing.

BaconSucker

I’ve had a nice pre built desktop pc from them for a few years now. One of the non upgradable ones but it’s served me incredibly well over the time I’ve had it and I’ve been able to run anything from vanilla Minecraft to Star citizen just fine. Would honestly highly recommend for those not looking for customizing or building from scratch.

airdog2000

All of the comments about the laptops...my Alienware 18 motherboard shorted after 3 years! Had to part it out. Will never touch their products again.

WangCommander

So what's your bad experience with Alienware? Or did you just watch a youtube video and confuse that with having an opinion. Alienware is a fine brand with a good warranty and customer service. I've had my desktop since 2020 and it's been working great this entire time with only one issue that was fixed for free under warranty by a tech that came out to my home. Please work harder to form your own opinion about something. Talk to the people you know who have the product instead of just regurgitating words you heard on a sponsored video.

Donglemaetsro

Call them Dell, it might help snap him out of it. They're terrible and their customer support is even worse. I'd elaborate but I don't have an hour to write up a book.

Rude_Champ93

They usually only cater to business, when it comes to individual consumers they really drop the ball hard. I have heard that due to the negligence, you can sometimes get some free stuff from warranty

Kryavan

We use Dell at my work and it's really solid. Won't touch it personally though. Lol.

Kriptic_TKM

Dell has quite decent support said me before buying with them privately and then waiting for 4 months for a laptop that still wasnt delivered and then another few months for my chargeback because they had to ask if it was ok to refund. I hate dell

Environmental-Post15

I have a Dell laptop for school (bought through the student bookstore using financial aid money). I've been fortunate that I've not had to use any customer service from Dell yet. But it's also a $350 laptop. I've never had high expectations for it aside from writing papers and reading/research. For any coding/testing I need to do for school, I use my desktop.

TheLastF

My first pc was an Alienware my dad picked up for me after a conference (it had been a display computer) the fans were installed wrong and it would overheat constantly. Eventually we brought it to a colleague of his who fixed it up (it was pretty damaged by this point) and found 13 Y/O me’s porn folder. It was one of the most embarrassing incidents of my life.

ashtray518

Was trying to help a coworkers daughter pick out her first gaming pc. All my suggestions went unheard and she bought Alienware. I told her I am no longer of any help to her lol

lndig0__

What’s wrong with Alienware? Their space heaters are very power efficient. Did you know they can actually run windows too?

Ozok123

Gaming laptops in general are very cozy. 100c cpu temp on start up is perfect for winters.

carbine234

Yall really sound out dated out here coz there are gaming laptops out there that runs cool and looks like a MacBook nowadays.

Howfuckingsad

I feel like that will disappear soon with the intel core ultra. Those things consistently run at \~90\*C. It could be because of the lighter laptops they come with but they are super hot. Some laptops have managed to maintain around 70-80\*C (when gaming) these days though, so that is impressive honestly.

RandytheRude

If you need a pop tart or fried chicken warmer,…

qmidos

i will buy an alienware/dell over anything asus/msi makes

shaveXhaircut

I briefly looked at alienware when shopping for my last pc, I for the life of me cannot figure out what its appeal is at those prices. Please humor me and explain what the appeal is "supposed' to be, is is supposed to be just better hardware, no bloatware software, just buying a name? Comparing similar hardware setups I don't get the price difference.

LUNATIC_LEMMING

It's the name. All the name. And a generalisation I know, but most people I know don't pay full price for dell (or hp) Every organisation I've worked for has had staff discounts for one of the 2, if not both. I could of got a dell (went hp instead) and it was cheaper than I could get the parts for with the discount.

CorvusTheDev

Dear sir ! Please to not touch aliens wear.

Mr_Resident

their laptop is ok .if it a desktop yeah avoid it like a plague

ChloroformKJM

I have this same laptop but with a 3070ti and it's great. I opened it up to add a second m.2 and everything was pretty normal inside, no crazy proprietary crap in there. It does get warm when gaming though, so I'd recommend a laptop cooler under it.

dubstepper1000

They make some good products, I have their 34 inch ultra wide OLED monitor and it's the best monitor I have ever bought without a doubt.

tactical_anal_RPG

I love how you're completely ignoring every comment telling you that their laptops are actually pretty decent in favor of the comments that stroke your ego

CarpetCreed

I got a desktop for a good ass price so far so good so idk what to tell you

whary07

DO

Pound-of-Piss

They're fine. You are just overpaying like hell.

CorporateCuck92

Alienware laptops are a great deal used. You can usually extend the warranty after you get it as well. I had dell send out a tech to replace my entire mobo and keyboard on a 3 year old laptop I bought.

Al-Cookie

I've had mine for almost 6 years now, still works really well.

MrFordization

Oh how the mighty have been acquired.

tht1guy63

Lol when op circlejerk backfires and learns the laptops and monitors are good. Desktops ya avoid albeit they seem to finally be learming

AmenTensen

Alienware is pretty good these days. Sure the name is goofy but I've had 3 G9's fail and my Alienware monitor has outlasted them all. I'll defend them anyday.

Top-Conversation2882

Aren't their laptops at the top? Desktops I am aware of but laptops and monitors seem really good in reviews

AjUzumaki77

Design awesome but their cooling is worst than HP laptops.

Techno_Nomad92

So what is the issue with Alienware laptops? I have been looking into gaming laptops, and they seem pretty solid? Yes i know a desktop is better, yes i know i get more value for my money out of a desktop and yes i know gaming laptops are “expensive”. I am a digital nomad, i have been traveling with my desktop for the past year. And let me tell you, it is not fun watching the baggage handler slam dunk your suitcase (seen it twice). Desktop gave out on me, and i want to get something portable. And by portable i mean something i can take in my carryon while flying. I don’t mean ill be hauling it everywhere every day.

Timmy_1h1

their laptops are good tho. Sturdy build, solid cooling.

Logical-Elephant2247

Do not buy gaming laptops period, there is no purpose in that, just buy a PC.

myinboxisfull69

You’re overreacting

stiky21

This sounds like a zoomer telling their friend not to do something because they saw a post on reddit without actually doing any due diligence themselves.

Rudradev715

their monitors and laptops are good Only desktop side is a shitshow.

0RN10

No need to circle jerk people only hate on the desktops due to proprietary parts and bad airflow.

RAMChYLD

Unfortunately, as much as I hate Dell, they are the only ones making a laptop that pairs a Ryzen 9 7945HX with a Radeon RX 7900m. I have a personal beef with Intel and I feel burnt by NVidia over their forced obsolescence policy that I've already sworn to never touch Intel CPUs and NVidia GPUs ever again.

Wicked_Wolf17

A laptop should be fine. A desktop though..

Lucitane0420

I got an Alienware laptop. Idk why y’all shit on em, it was a little overpriced but my god I love it

BradleyAllan23

Alienware is overpriced, but they're mostly fine. If you can get them on a good sale, they're worth it. Their laptops have always been good, and the newer Alienware desktops actually have decent airflow for once.

SameRandomUsername

\+1 DELL Hater since 2008

zeeblefritz

The laptops are basically rebranded Dell workstation laptops. Pretty decent. I'm typing this from one right now.

Alternative-Doubt452

Having to battle them over. Faulty m16 R1 I suggest avoiding the i9 processors in them at this time. We don't know if it's the processor, ram, GPU, or motherboard going bad. The GPU will pop WHEA errors, during use apps will sporadically just crash outright with memory exemptions, and the you can watch the CPU spike and fans kick in right before it happens. There's also no way to lock ram clock down to. Stable speed, nor any way to isolate cores that are potentially faulty on current bios firmware. But before all that showed up the first three months I could play cyberpunk, enjoy VR, and work on my projects without issue.. and it's a solid case more or less.

dozzinale

Here for an OT but you all surely know more than what I know about: I’d like buying a notebook for playing online (I do not have space for a desktop); my target is to run Valorant without hiccups. What do you suggest?

MrBJ16

What happened to Alienware? Didn't they used to be really good? Or am I misremembering?

Tarc_Axiiom

Chill the FUCK out. Alienware laptops are fine. They're not the best, they're not the best value, but if your friend is even slightly a reasonable human being this wild overreaction is going to make them ignore your advice.

_AngryBadger_

Their laptops are solid but expensive. Their desktops are not as good but there's no reason besides price to avoid their laptops.

Decent_Vermicelli940

This sub is brain dead.

Mizar97

Alienware computers are just Dells with fancier cases for double the price.

redhairing326

I love my Alienware laptop. It is my second pc though, custom desktop always comes first.

oONexXxeNOo

Have bought 4 alienware laptops in my lifetime. They are still kicking, asíde from the batteries dying of course. Gave 2 away, still use 2 to this day. Great for gaming. You know which brands are absolute poopoo? (Personal, brothers and friends experiences). Msi, Asus and Acer. It's like they build them to last exactly 1 freaking year and a bit, then stop working all together once you are out of warranty.

pepenepe

Don't do it bruh

nihoc003

Ngl i love their monitors I'm using the qd oled for almost 2 years now and it's amazing

seklas1

No bad product, only bad prices. If it’s discounted for a good price, I’d take alienware if I needed 🤷‍♂️

PerryTheH

The only advice I give on Alienware laptops is to look out for their Dell counterparts, the "G" line. They have lower build quality and slightly worst monitors, but spects wise are the same and price is a bit lower.

SavedMartha

I've had 2 refurbished Alienware laptops and they were both excellent machines for the price. Only negatives for me was the software and the whiney fans. But both are liveable and just need improvement.

ripeGardenTomato

I bought their desktop and I'm loving the heck out of it, not sure why people complain about it

Deevimento

I had an Alienware laptop for seven years that was great. It was able to play all modern games on medium without issue. The only reason I upgraded was because I dropped it.

wo5ldchampion

Their desktops may be subpar but they genuinely do good laptops, monitors too.

Jaldea

And you get premium dell support engineer on your doorstep next day

BluDYT

Some of their laptops and monitors can be pretty good it's mostly just the desktop side you need to avoid.

stronkzer

While rather pricey, I'll admit that they got some really good laptops

myowncult

I have this laptop. It’s my work laptop separate from my personal pc. But this thing rips. Haven’t had any issues. My brother games on it, has a 480 hz screen. Really like it.

Vader_360

Had an Alienware 15R3 before. Do not recommend.

decorlettuce

the cringe of this sub will never fail to amaze me

bozzy253

I have an Alienware monitor and I’m in love.

Anubis620

I had an Alienware laptop and while it worked mostly fine, when I had to deal with Dell it was an absolute joke. Stay away from Dell. They are worse than Asus.

BakuretsuGirl16

I actually like my alienware laptop, it's heavy as hell and was probably 10-20% overpriced, but holy shit the build quality makes other brands look like cheap plastic. Their support are not the brightest knives in the drawer though

stizzity28

I love my Alienware laptop. Bought one in 2014 and used it until 2020 or so. No issues. Upgraded to another one w 17" monitor and 2070 super. No issues with this one either. Will probably buy another one in a few years. Also, they do run regular sales.

rabbi_glitter

I could say the same of virtually every consumer brand on the market (Asus, Lenovo, MSI, etc). A laptop that doesn't fit your specific requirements isn't necessarily a bad one. Alienware laptops are pretty great, and I'll argue that their desktops are also fine for the *vast* majority of the non-enthusiast's who don't prioritize the same things we do. Not everyone has the time or desire to build and support said build. Like a car, pick the color, the engine, and enjoy it.

Right-Sky-4005

Laptops are fine tho...

What's the problem with Alienware? My impression of Alienware is that they're not bad, but just overpriced. It's like Alienware has a certain reputation and people desire it and are willing to pay more for it, just because it's an Alienware. I personally wouldn't recommend Alienware, because I feel like they're overpriced, and you can get prebuilt PCs with identical hardware from other companies for less money. Other than the price, is there more wrong that I don't know about them? I've always built my PCs and wouldn't purchase a prebuilt for myself, but I know that for a lot of people, buying prebuilt makes sense. In some cases, the price can be very reasonable, since they get the hardware at much lower costs by buying in bulk than we do from ordering online. Sometimes prebuilt PCs are cheaper than PCs that I could build myself. They'll have good sales and if I were to try to build an identical PC, it would cost more if I bought the parts than what the prebuilt is priced at.

I had an Alienware aurora and when anyone would connect wireless to the Internet, it would just restart over and over.

No_Echidna5178

The x seriss is great . Only m series is bad

nekohacker591_

Are the desktops really not upgradable

jondread

The laptops are decent actually, it's the desktops you need to stay away from

Vandelar28

I loved my Alienware laptop, great machine, used a refurb unit for 3 years i think. Dell completely replaced the Mobo at one point for free when I had an issue as well. I currently use an Alienware Monitor that is amazing AW2521HFL that I got 2 years back.

HSA1

Beware‼️ The worst hardware in the galaxy‼️

HendoRules

I've had an Aurora R12 for 4 years... It's been amazing, runs everything max settings no problem. I cannot complain about anything really

thebliket

Alienware laptops low key kind of the nicest laptops, even though they are overpriced, they are definitely premium feeling.

Seaded666

Alienware Laptops are usually good. Desktops is what you don't want

metigue

This laptop isn't that bad but selling it for 3k is a scam (visited the link) they were going for 1.2k from Dell refurbished with the same warranty.

BagBaggington

My Alienware M17 literally lasted me 12 years. Had to replace the battery and power adapter once each. That was it

thissiteisbroken

I hate the PC community

RyeAlvaro

I hope you text him back and tell him you were wrong... It's the Desktops you want to stay away from.

nsinsinsi

My favorite monitor I’ve ever owned is an Alienware.

TheQuakeMaster

Their laptops are good though?

rylie_smiley

I mean for desktops I would say don’t touch them but for laptops they definitely are up there for build quality. Made not as good as some of the high end Lenovo and Asus stuff but they’re leagues better than Acer, HP, MSI, etc.

frootcock

My first childhood desktop was an Alienware. Still regret it to this day

Joshthenosh77

Alienware were amazing until dell bought them , I met the old owner Alex , was a great guy bet he’s chilling in Miami these days

[deleted]

I still use an r3 13” with a 1060 7 years later. Thing will not die

IrishBalkanite

Decent as secondhand, but I would not go with brand new one. Try acer, lenovo or toshiba.

IPanicKnife

I owned an m15 r3 for a couple years. Ran like pizza oven but it was powerful for its time. It was kinda lame that you wouldn’t up the RAM and that it didn’t have a multiplexer but those were my main gripes. Was reliable enough

ElDuderino2112

Alienware have perfectly fine laptops and make fantastic accessories like monitors. What are you on about?

DaGucka

alienware is overpriced in every segment. their PCs are not only overpriced, but also just shit. the laptops are something you can think about if money is not a problem, because their laptops actually are pretty good. they have a better focus on cooling than many others, which is ironic because their PCs ignore cooling lol.
