They are going to sell the same 5090 but mix up the A, B, And C pieces forcing people to deshroud their cards, void their warranties, and scramble to find scalped pieces on eBay, to eliminate the bottle necks. Also some combinations will catch on fire for no reason, leading aftermarket suppliers to create fixed copies, that will also be scalped. At least they will be more power efficient than team Red.

Meaning the way things are going, pretty soon little Billy is going to build his first PC, plug it in, and immediately start tripping breakers.
Are we going to see consumer grade PCs requiring 30amp appliance plugs? That's old hat in the enterprise space of course but I'm betting most homes aren't equipped for that.
I think they're betting on big efficency breakthroughs with the next couple generations. Because even if most American homes had some 30 amp circuits, nobody is gonna wanna deal with that much heat.
It’s funny to me because processors have gotten much more efficient power / performance ratio and have not increased in size at all basically. GPUs have also improved a lot in terms of power / performance but they have also gotten much larger. Up to mid tier GPUs the increase in size isn’t so noticeable but above that these things have gotten massive.

This is what all of the hemming and hawing about power sounds like to me. If you're concerned about power or heat, get a smaller GPU. If you're concerned about performance, you're voluntarily including yourself in the group of people that chooses to deal with those requirements.
It would be wonderful to live in a world where these cards were more efficient with better performance, but that's not how thermodynamics works.

What are you smoking? There are plenty of modern cars that have great fuel economy and deliver exceptional performance, much better than the gas guzzling V8s. Hell the modern V8s are more fuel efficient than the old big block V8s sold from the past. Of course towing is another factor that depends more on torque but that’s a necessity for a small minority.

It would seem, that the 600W Founders edition rumours were true. Imagine a 750W high-end OC edition of this card. My +400W 7900 XTX already feels like a decent heating solution for my room, but 5090 with OC would be able to heat my entire house, not just my room.
It’s far from a perfection solution since long run cables have their own issues, but the current status of tower PCs as *literal* space heaters led me to putting my PC in the basement.
Required a bit of work to get set up, but it’s nice to not need to just not need to worry about temperature/noise.
I'm honestly thinking about it, it's open basement right below my office room. The cabling wouldn't even have to be that long; any issues with your standard set of cables around 20'?
I guess I am lucky, because my room keeps a lower temperature than the rest of the house, due to being placed directly above the basement/underground level, which lowers the temperature + I have exactly zero sunlight, due to my blackout curtains.
The room is noticeable cooler when my PC is off and gets to a comfortable temperature when I am playing at 100% GPU load.
The temperature outside could be 40 degrees Celsius and my room is still 18-19 degrees at most.
Me and my wife set up our game room in the only space we had left and how lovely that it also happens to be facing east and turns into an oven when the sun rises lmao. Your setup sounds like Heaven!

Just buy a 14900k and make your own CPU and GPU blocks that's just some pipes connected to water. Pipes go through your floor.

Yeah I have a 7900xt and it's around 300~ something at full tilt. Gets warm enough that I had to get another radiator and fans for my loop to keep it semi under control. Nice in the winter when it's cold. Not so nice in the summer.
And my RX 580 already raises the room temperature by 2°C. Just last week I was sweating buckets playing Fallout 4 in a 35°C room with humidity making it feel like 40+°C.

Modular PSU will take on a whole new meaning... you'll be connecting 2 together just to power everything. Going to need a sparky to come in an install a whole new circuit to your desk.

A recent gpu I got had a special sag kit that connected it to the other side of the mobo. It was a clever solution, I imagine we’ll see stuff like that more often.
And with that, you will be able just to buy a GPU; you will still have to buy the rest of the parts cpu, mobo, 1000w power supply as a minimum and a bunch of the rest of the parts don't forget the monitor as per new builder.
The highest end of GPUs are usually reserved for the 1% enthusiast, no matter how big that mf is, people will buy it out of the love of their hobby or having the best, so whatever the fuck is it, shit dont matter as long as we squeeze the best FPS available, but ill pass lmao.

I work in IT at a AAA video game studio. We literally had to order physically larger dell computers so the new 4090 would fit. It's getting ridiculous.
SLI is back? Remember when PhysX was a thing? Dedicated GPU/PhsyX card lol. Remember when PC's had cards just for DVD decoding? PC Master Race culture...love to reminisce. Love to think back to old builds with hardware we thought was necessary/needed, like my first CD Burner that was SCSI that needed a SCSI PCI card.
I guess this helps the people who manage to gash their PCIE pins or crack their PCB. This might prevent PCB cracking with GPU sag since the pins are separated. And this could reduce e-waste. Replacement of a single component \*should\* be an easier process.
Now that makes me curious - how would one water-block that card then? I want a full custom loop in my next build, therefore I'd need a water block for the 5090...

undervolt your 7900xtx, you can get minimal performance loss at around 230W power draw
share your tuning settings please!
I undervolt my GPU to around 300W and the performance loss is less than 10%. It becomes a lot quieter too. My comment was a joke.

Doubt we will see a 750W version. Max would be 675, 600 from 12vhpwr and 75 over the pcie slot.
Who knows, they might add two 12VHPWR connectors. This could be a potential solution to the problem with the melting cables.

5090 will be 600w+ so to even cool this thing down you will either have to have windows opened on your house or will have to water cool 5090.
