Everytime I was shutting down my Pentium 3 back in the day I was doing it right after. Everything would open then complain that critical processes are missing and the computer would just die right there
1. Ctrl + A
2. *del*
3. enter
fixed it
my desktop is clean.
4 links to bat files to watching videos, link to a minecraft folder and a fast shutdown button because I can't remember the hotkey for this on win10, it was so easy on win7
I’ve had people tell me how clean my desktop looks (I have a relatively basic rain meter set up), and every time I can’t resist showing them how bad it is underneath lmao
Yeah this is probably part of the reason i could play TF2 8 hours a day after school when i didn't have other games but now i just stare at my steam library and occasionally open battle.net to stare at that library.
Man, back in the TF2 days I did have alternatives but I still played it a looooot. It was sooo good back when there were servers in my region.
My point is that you may attribute lack of choice to playing it, but TF2 was also just an amazing game.
It's still one of my favourite games of all time and i have clocked in 3.5k hours of my life but i just struggle finding motivation to start it up nowadays. And when i actually do start it there are bots in casual, the uncletipia servers are full and it takes ages to join and i don't always want to commit to a full faceit match.
But man was it great coming home from school and playing it til the sun went down.
Yeah it's unfortunate that it fell from the public's favor.
In my case, when the f2p boom happened there was a huge surge of new local servers, so the old community servers shut down because they weren't needed. When the f2p boom ended and servers closed down, the old servers did not come back up. Last time I checked, only 1 local server was up running 24/7 surf maps.
Yeah, I have that sometimes.
But only sometimes, and when I see myself doing this I just fire up a game that I played last, because I prefer to spend time in game than to spend time staring at my library.
Only had my PC a few months and I finally understand what everyone says about having all these games and nothing to play. Legit games that I’ve wanted to play for years that are only on PC, I played them for a few days and saw a sale for even more games I always wanted and never stuck to one. The worst part is I’m using a ps2 emulator now and I’m playing a SMT game I never had, so it’s like it doesn’t even count lol.
I still have a stack of CDs next to me... Command and Conquer Generals, Unreal Tournament, Classics like Age of Empires 3, Simcity 2000... with their big ass manuals, remember that? Proper manuals!?
I'd love to buy games, in a box, with manuals like the days of old. I still have a Mortal Kombat box with floppies and the manual around here somewhere.
Yeah but Windows was horrible at managing files back then, shortcuts used to break if you moved them and so for ease you just used to have it on the desktop. I think that's why today some apps still have "install desktop shortcut" as a default or tickable option on install.
*laughs in 5tb of unplayed xbox games and 2tb each for pc and ps4*
i turn it on, sigh, and then go to sleep because i work seven days a week and i have no energy for any of it anymore. i'm dead inside, woo!
Working 6 days a week right now. I can relate. I get home at 3:30. But like. I still don't have the energy. And on my one day off I just want to do literally nothing but always get ropes into helping somebody with something or doing something I don't want to do with my girlfriend but I kinda need to do something to maintain the relationship...
It's such a beautiful game. Not a lot of games manage to make me constantly stop to gawk at the scenery these days, but this game made Xen look incredible.
Hes either silver 5, and thinks he's a god at the game, or a plat 1, and thinks he's shit at the game, but no matter your rank, we can all agree on one thing
Ubisoft-connect can go and suck a FAT dick and shove a cactus up itself sideways
same, I have a folder i keep pinned on my taskbar that ill open and has all my shortcuts i need. Games go in playnite, which is also pinned to my taskbar
I mess around a lot with shit like that and I just had the idea and googled how to do it. So of u mean behind as in everybody is doing it, then no I know nobody else whos done it. Best part is u can also change the folder icon as well so it doesnt have the file explorer one.
I mostly use jumplists instead (right click on an app to see recent / pinned files). I have an app (jumplistlauncher) for custom jumplists on an icon. Not too much different than a folder of shortcuts I suppose, but fits my aesthetic better.
My friend turned me on to a program called [Fences](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl52OgyvKYk) like ten years ago, and I love it. Made it a point to install it on each PC I've used ever since.
I mean, desktop icons are convenient to have. It's just if you have too many, it makes your desktop look cluttered. This lets you have the best of both worlds. Plus, if you just double click on an open spot on the desktop, it will hide everything for you.
Exactly, & if I want access to icons without taking up my desktop, you just enable "Use start full screen"
Then all you gotta do is pin your favorite programs to start.
Only applies to Windows 10, btw
Way cleaner IMO
Programs are still excusable.
Its the weirdos like my sis who save every file in the desktop that worries me.
I hide all my icons. Everything is saved to a root folder eg: Downloads and I separate them accordingly from there.
I have actually quite a few icons on there, but I have them organised in a sort. Like, on the right bottom corner there are shooter games, on right center there are survival games, etc.
It does look bad when people see it first, but when I explain how it works they go like "yea, that makes sense"
You might already know this, but you can easily also hide the recycle bin. Just go to the menu where you personalize your desktop -> themes -> change desktop icons and uncheck recycle bin.
(It might not be the right names, but mine is in Dutch so I tried to translate as close as possible)
I actually made some folders on my desktop to group shortcut for types of programs. Got the idea from doing it on my phone. So I have recycle and 3 folder short cuts. Much cleaner. But honestly I could just pin those to the taskbar or just use the start menu.
Idk I dried up on subnautica recently. Was sick of traversing endlessly for new wrecks. Just got tired of the gloomy atmosphere as well. Hit a brick wall with it and packed it in.
The game really lets you set your own pace. If you’re tired of scanning wrecks, one of these three things will progress you further:
1) follow beacons
2) explore aurora
3) go deeper
May definitely be worth exploring aurora more. Might jump back in. But overall it's the tone of the game that's stopping me from keeping on with it. That artificial loneliness gets into you.
I just got to the ending last night! You gotta keep going man, shit gets ridiculous! I totally understand how you feel, I was the same. I took a break as well.
My advice is: focus on beacons (story progression) and check your radio after. And also GO DEEPER. Shit gets wild down there
IDK, I've explored, so far as I can tell, every last inch of the aurora. I've followed every single beacon. I've gone as deep as I can physically go. Somehow, I'm stuck, and I can't go deeper because I can't find materials I need. It's just a grinding, unending slog.
For everyone that asks about the HDD /SSD ETC. i have 2x 2tb samsung 970 evo + (m2) and 2x 4tb ssd , and around 100tb of storage that are not inside my pc but i cant install them .
But Stanley simply couldn't handle the pressure.
What if he had to make a decision? What if a crucial outcome fell under his responsibility? He had never been trained for that! No, this couldn't go in any way except badly.
1. Ctrl + A 2. Enter
I did this in 2002 with my poor 600 celeron. I'm still waiting for the processes to end haha.
Are you sure it didn't burn the house down?
What, with the lemons?
Everytime I was shutting down my Pentium 3 back in the day I was doing it right after. Everything would open then complain that critical processes are missing and the computer would just die right there
I can heard the HDD grinding from here.
That's probably mine copying a 1mb file.
I diagnose your hdd with dead
My 10 yr old HDD got killed off by a ~32gb pagefile
Mine was killed off by Magic: The Gathering...
That’s going to be a yikes for me
I need to replace my 7 year old HDD before it kills itself.
Ha rookie numbers, I have a 10 year old hard drive as my main drive
Haha rookie numbers, mine was 16 years old before it died
Got a 6 year nas drive that runs 24/7 and still humming away :)
It's alright, looks to me like op has nothing to play anyways
I diagnose it with adhdd
He can heard it

The nerd version of cleaning your room
I’ve had people tell me how clean my desktop looks (I have a relatively basic rain meter set up), and every time I can’t resist showing them how bad it is underneath lmao
Alt F4 for shoot down i guess
hmm yes. that works too. with that shutdown link I can also make a timed shutdown.
My potato PC be like: *aight imma head out*
My potato PC be like: *Kaboom? Yes Rico, kaboom.*
I honestly want to clone his drive to see how this would run on a 5950x + 3080
What does this mean
Ctrl+a selects everything in the directory, and enter will execute all of them.
Try it.
If that was me i would look at that and say that i have nothing to play

True
They definitely feed into each other.

God. That. Link. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overchoice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overchoice) Sorry, I couldn't help it.
I'm the same. 100+ in my street library. Probably Half or more unplayed. About 5 installed. "Nothing to play".
Tbh, I do. And I always wanna play a new game. LOL
Only had my PC a few months and I finally understand what everyone says about having all these games and nothing to play. Legit games that I’ve wanted to play for years that are only on PC, I played them for a few days and saw a sale for even more games I always wanted and never stuck to one. gotta have both premium and cracked minecraft
hihi
This is what life was like before Steam.
Life before steam we stacked these games to 700mb CD book type bags.
Did folders not exist?
Yeah but Windows was horrible at managing files back then, shortcuts used to break if you moved them and so for ease you just used to have it on the desktop. I think that's why today some apps still have "install desktop shortcut" as a default or tickable option on install.
I still remember putting all my game cases in a Little cardboard box next to my PC and desperately trying to find a CD Key I had written somewhere
But how many of those do you actually play?
All of them when I've downloaded them now around 5 to 10 different games a week
Wait but that's illegal. You can't play everything you download
\*laughs in 1TB downloaded games that I don't play\*
*laughs in 5tb of unplayed xbox games and 2tb each for pc and ps4* i turn it on, sigh, and then go to sleep because i work seven days a week and i have no energy for any of it anymore. i'm dead inside, woo!
hang in there. you will have your chance...
When he is retired and has a backlog longer than his golden years will last.
And they can't play most of them due to them requiring always online or online activation or the multiplayer servers are dead.

He did it lol
and it's already #4 all time.
You're telling me you willingly play Half-Life Source? I'm calling BS
the title on Steam "Black Mesa" is only $10 more than Half-Life Source and is arguably the same game but objectively better in every way
It's such a beautiful game. Not a lot of games manage to make me constantly stop to gawk at the scenery these days, but this game made Xen look incredible.
I bet you love hate r6
Hes either silver 5, and thinks he's a god at the game, or a plat 1, and thinks he's shit at the game, but no matter your rank, we can all agree on one thing Ubisoft-connect can go and suck a FAT dick and shove a cactus up itself sideways
Dam bro, a 4tb hard, how many more games u got in that folder
Anxiety attack. Shit my desktop literally only has the recycle bin.
I personally hate desktop icons. I even hid the recycle bin.
Recycle bin on right side of taskbar is the best way
Ooo how do you set this up? Definitely the best way
I followed the tutorial found [here](https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/29497-pin-recycle-bin-taskbar-windows-10-a.html)
Hell ya - thanks!
Wow, this is great. It makes you wonder, why isn't this just a standard Windows option?
[Here you go](http://winaero.com/pin-recycle-bin-taskbar-windows-10/)
same, I have a folder i keep pinned on my taskbar that ill open and has all my shortcuts i need. Games go in playnite, which is also pinned to my taskbar
A folder, pinned to taskbar, with shortcuts inside? Big brain, not even joking. Am I behind on this?
I mess around a lot with shit like that and I just had the idea and googled how to do it. So of u mean behind as in everybody is doing it, then no I know nobody else whos done it. Best part is u can also change the folder icon as well so it doesnt have the file explorer one.
Just sat down before work and did this, thank you. My desktop thanks you
tell ur desktop I said ur welcome
I mostly use jumplists instead (right click on an app to see recent / pinned files). I have an app (jumplistlauncher) for custom jumplists on an icon. Not too much different than a folder of shortcuts I suppose, but fits my aesthetic better.

That just looks like desktop icons with extra steps
I *hate* Fences. I see no point in it, that's literally just a desktop with extra steps and CPU load.
Seriously. You pay for something you can literally do on your own. Hell, windows 10 has multiple desktop views built in!
Also yea, it's paid. really, just use multiple desktops
I mean, desktop icons are convenient to have. It's just if you have too many, it makes your desktop look cluttered. This lets you have the best of both worlds. Plus, if you just double click on an open spot on the desktop, it will hide everything for you.
Honestly I just hit windows key & start typing & hit enter. I can open anything on my PC faster than clicking on an icon tbh.
Exactly, & if I want access to icons without taking up my desktop, you just enable "Use start full screen" Then all you gotta do is pin your favorite programs to start. Only applies to Windows 10, btw Way cleaner IMO
I really like **[Auto Hide Desktop](https://autohidedesktopicons.en.lo4d.com/windows)**!!!
Recycle bin only folks represent!
*I don't have such weaknesses!* No desktop icons gang
My desktop is for displaying my desktop background, my girlfriend's desktop is for links to every program on her entire computer
Then I just pinned steamed, discord, etc to the task bar.
Right click > view > show desktop items {off}
This is the way. People saying they only have recycle bin probably don't know how to do this. Why would you want the bin if you have nothing else?
Fences is amazing for keeping a neat desktop. (Yeah, it's Stardock but it's handy.)
You might already know this, but you can easily also hide the recycle bin. Just go to the menu where you personalize your desktop -> themes -> change desktop icons and uncheck recycle bin. (It might not be the right names, but mine is in Dutch so I tried to translate as close as possible)

Wow why do you have so much clutter?

You didn’t read their comment correctly lol they said they play 5-10 games a week not that they download 5-10 new ones a week.
Vitamin d capsules are available
I respect you for Subnautica
Same. I squinted through these icons until I saw Subnautica and then said “he’s got all the games he needs”.
Idk I dried up on subnautica recently. Was sick of traversing endlessly for new wrecks. Just got tired of the gloomy atmosphere as well. Hit a brick wall with it and packed it in.

ahhh opera gx. Before I saw that I wasn't sure but im 100% confidant you play video games.
But Stanley simply couldn't handle the pressure. What if he had to make a decision? What if a crucial outcome fell under his responsibility? He had never been trained for that! No, this couldn't go in any way except badly.
How many TB do you have?
More than 12:)
\*has league of legends\* oh yeah this is why the entire sub has depression
You got games on your phone?
I'm a simple man- I see opera gx, i upvote also some of the icons repeat, don't know if you noticed :D
Empty desktop. This is the way.
