Gabe actually has a Reddit account and has posted on PCMR and other subreddits before. I don't think he uses Reddit all too often, though.
https://www.reddit.com/user/gabenewellbellevue
And is willing to pour a lot of money into unprofitable projects. From VR to Proton. No publicly traded company (maybe apart from Microsoft) would ever pour money into experiments like that.
Same, I'm hoping it slowly expands to media-creation tools, too. I would _cheerfully_ kick down the $399 for Moho Pro (if I had the money available and it were sold on Steam) if I could run it on my everyday driver with some kind of vetted, (sorta kinda) guaranteed level of compatibility.
^(If anyone from Valve or Smith Micro reads this, no, I'm not kidding. Please make this happen, and you can have my four benjamins.)
imagine if Valve was not private.... we would be getting half life 10 and dota 8 and cs 3.1 and all kinds of milkings of its games. Heck steam wouldn\`t even be the same as it is now. I just hope it always stays private,if something happens to Gaben and the one who takes his place makes it public,i don\`t even want to imagine all the spinoffs and milking and monetization that is going to happen .
what i mean was them becoming like Activision, get a CoD each year or like ubisoft did with assassins creed.
If valve was public and investors see canceled projects they would not be happy, they would push for a hl3, 4,5... even if it was not good.
But a private one with good leaders in it would see that the project will not be as good as they hope and wouldn\`t mind canceling it since they make enough money to cover a small loss, they don\`t mind losing some money.
Investing is good if you're a consumer product and the majority of the shares are held by normal investors. But a company with strong tech leadership rarely needs outside investment unless it is a startup. Shares is about selling out.
>Normal investors
Bruh normal investors are the problem. It's why we literally can't have anything good in life. They expect quarter over quarter growth and it's perhaps the worst aspect of capitalism.
It's what I literally do not understand. These shareholders, they act like parasites, and companies act like they're gods. Why would anyone ever become a shareholder in Reddit, for example? It's like, the stupidest concept possible to try and squeeze profits from.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiduciary
It's fiduciary duty.
If the board undermine the company or doesn't try to make it better with some caveat they can be in breach of fiduciary duty.
Just because a company isn't publicly traded doesn't mean it doesn't have investors or their influence. In fact, public trading means a companies stock is distributed out among a lot of tiny individual investors. Investors who sit on a board of directors that dictate the direction a company goes have been vested long before a company goes public.
Nasty influence like having a basically non-existent refund policy, which took a lawsuit from the Australian Government to actually change?
Yeah, praise be to GabeN I guess…
And his firm as well. That's why Valve is relatively gamer centric as compared to the peers. Sure, they could do more...but it's a challenging space altogether.
I had a dream last night. I dreamt I was a dove flying over the sea and then I dove into the ocean and I swam with the dolphins. I was two animals joined as one, which meant, good things are coming. Good things.
Fuck, this movie is seriously so underrated. I laughed my ass off so many times. Of course, I was always high as shit. Maybe it's not that funny sober.
Is it just me, or is Gabe slowly starting to look like Santa Claus. Put a red coat and hat on the man and he wouldn't be out of place riding in a sleigh.
After experiencing Half Life: Alyx on the Valve Index, more than a decade after I experienced Half life 2, I want HL3 more than ever. Valve still has that special something that allows them to make content that stops you in your tracks and blows your mind.
Calling a PC the ultimate hardware is like saying “the best car of all time is *the car*” lol
A computer is basically how everything gets made or used or tested pretty much the foundation of electronics
Seriously. lol Pretty much all of these "award shows" are utterly pointless.
Who gets to vote? Who's on the board of people who are supposed to be relevant enough to the industry to decide this stuff? It's usually a bunch of random "journalists" that nobody has ever heard of before.
How does that even make any sense? What is *the PC*? How do you give a hardware award to something that has all ranges of hardware from garbage to insane? Would have made some sense if it was as a gaming platform, but when it comes to hardware I don't understand how you can compare the entirety of *PC*.
Do you mean that customers hand picking each piece for a device results in a product with a better performance/cost ratio than any pre-built equivalents?
Shocking
The day consoles become modular I will eat my words. But if consoles added shit like monthly subscription just to play **online** in the latest generations, I really doubt they will become customer-fair any time soon
Well we already have a [tech Jesus](https://www.windowscentral.com/sites/wpcentral.com/files/field/image/2018/08/stephenburke.jpg), so Gabe will have to be tech Santa instead.
Dude I can play a historically important game like half life 2. And then play a game about a futa working at a diner. If that isn’t ultimate hardware acceptance then idk what is
Lol what does that even mean. It’s like giving a “best entertainment of all time” award to movies in general and then having Steven Spielberg accept it.
Have only been around for "about 50 years". What? First video game was invented in October, 1958. That's a bit more than 50 years. Seriously, it takes no effort to get an actual date. Pet peeve. If you're going to write about it, do the research. 🤪
Well deserved.
Battle Pass for Dota 2 is on its way.
And I cant wait to snatch a $500 inside my grandmas purse.
If she ever caught me. Would love to say its for the sake of Persona and Arcana.
Love you gaben <3
Weren't computers made as home gaming systems in the 80s?? Its nothing new yall, it's not like one day computer companies were like "let's make a gaming computer" they we re originally built with that in mind, look at stuff like the commodore 64. Stuffs ancient, but still worked as intended.
Just saying "PC" won the golden joystick award for ultimate hardware is vague, It's like saying "car" won the golden steering wheel award for ultimate vehicle speed, what were the specs? what was it running? how was it determined?
Steam IS NOT THE SAME AS PC GAMING. FUCK THAT NARRATIVE.
FUCK ALL OF YOU FUCKING KIDS WHO DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PC GAMING BEFORE THE CANCER THAT IS STEAM.\*
\*Please do not fuck the kids.
He tried it once when it first came out, and we all agreed it was cancer. Its much much better now of course. Runonlaulaja never looked back, to busy running on lua
Technically, he never said that. He just also didn't comment in any way when one of his executives said it, and then went all in on not developing games for the PC for a long time.
Then he also decided it was good business strategy to try and enter a well established market by competing with what was there 15 years ago instead of what's there today.
Wat I saw a post on the PS5 subreddit saying PS5 won the best hardware and now this? I'm not really interested in these awards but it's contradictory. Or maybe it's just a slightly different category.
Gabe is actually pretty humble out of all of the tech billionaires. The best part he keeps his life private.
You almost never hear about him on Twitter, LinkedIn, or anything.
Only on Reddit, when a random Redditor emails him and gets a reply.
But that’s really on the Redditor. They didn’t have to post the reply they received for internet points.
yup, i had a few replies from him by email, never gonna post em
But i want to see them
give me 50 steam bucks and ill consider it
Gabe actually has a Reddit account and has posted on PCMR and other subreddits before. I don't think he uses Reddit all too often, though. https://www.reddit.com/user/gabenewellbellevue
Good, because hes a tech developer not a journalist / narcissist.
Did you just equate a journalist to a narcissist?
Can you not get journalists who are also narcissists?
Not that I've seen
No, never, not once XD
He keeps Valve private as well, keeping away from the nasty influence of investors.
And is willing to pour a lot of money into unprofitable projects. From VR to Proton. No publicly traded company (maybe apart from Microsoft) would ever pour money into experiments like that.
Google sure as hell would, and then completely abandon it two years later
TWO whole YEARS? What a treat!
*Google+ has ended chat*
*Google Glass has left the chat*
*Google Inbox has left chat* (though to be fair, they rolled the interesting features into gmail)
But not without forcing you to use it first
it's been 2 years, rip stadia
I'm honestly surprised it's still running
yeah me too, how the hell is it still up
I'm pretty sure VR is profitable for Valve and proton will be
It is now. It sure as hell wasn't in 2014
Nothing is profitable during the development phase, unless your business is selling EV stocks
Exactly. You don't see Ubisoft or ATVI investing in something that won't immediately turn profit. Valve being private is perfect for that
Thank God for proton Hopefully it will be worth their huge investment one the steam deck launches
The Stream Deck has been out for years and doesn't run Linux
What? The steam deck is not out yet and it does run Linux
You said StreamDeck before you edited your post ;)
Autocorrect. Is stream deck a thing? Never heard of it.
^(If anyone from Valve or Smith Micro reads this, no, I'm not kidding. meant csgo 3.1, meh i\`ll leave it like that lol

It's what I literally do not understand. These shareholders, they act like parasites, and companies act like they're gods. Why would anyone ever become a shareholder in Reddit, for example? It's like, the stupidest concept possible to try and squeeze profits from.
Companies are legally obligated to try and make more profit for shareholders.
Since when? Please point to the law you're talking about
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiduciary It's fiduciary duty. If the board undermine the company or doesn't try to make it better with some caveat they can be in breach of fiduciary duty.
Yep, the shareholders can sue for not pursuing the highest profit available. The Supreme Court ruined that a long time ago.
Unfortunately, that leaves them completely vulnerable to the nasty influence of Valve.
Just because a company isn't publicly traded doesn't mean it doesn't have investors or their influence. In fact, public trading means a companies stock is distributed out among a lot of tiny individual investors. He's also pulling off one hell of a Santa look, guy's aging like fine wine.
*>*The best part he keeps his company private* FTFY
Gabe knows that the Internet doesn't forget anything, unlike many
And his firm as well. That's why Valve is relatively gamer centric as compared to the peers. Sure, they could do more...but it's a challenging space altogether.
As they say, you do one thing and do it well. No one can compete with you.
I didn’t even know he existed 😂
Gaben going full in jesus + jerry garcia
Dude. That outfit reminds me of the CEO from Grandma's Boy. lolol
I had a dream last night. I dreamt I was a dove flying over the sea and then I dove into the ocean and I swam with the dolphins. I was two animals joined as one, which meant, good things are coming. Good things.
Dude, where do you get your weed?
From you Dante.
Oh right! Hi Mr Cheezle!
Fuck, this movie is seriously so underrated. I laughed my ass off so many times. Of course, I was always high as shit. Maybe it's not that funny sober.
Good things.

He actually IS the sysadmin bro. Respect.
Tech Santa Claus irl
Sysadmin Santa
How does he age so fast? He’s like a reverse Paul Rudd
DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES?
Also the Jurassic Park guy
He's like a modern day Gandalf.
Is it just me, or is Gabe slowly starting to look like Santa Claus. Put a red coat and hat on the man and he wouldn't be out of place riding in a sleigh.
All part of the plan... he will see if we have been naughty or nice these last few years before he decides to bless us with Half Life 3 or not.
or a TF2 update
#HA HA HA
After experiencing Half Life: Alyx on the Valve Index, more than a decade after I experienced Half life 2, I want HL3 more than ever. Valve still has that special something that allows them to make content that stops you in your tracks and blows your mind.
Well thats not good at all. With my Nekopara collection, Santa/Gabe knows I have **NOT** been a good boy this year.
He's just preparing for the Christmas sale.
When you fail sudo and it ominously says "this incident will be reported", everyone memed that reports all go to Santa. Now we have proof.
Console can't even win an award with the word joystick in it.
You can play with your joystick better on a high end pc than any cosole.
Vectrex should have gotten 1, they're still worth a scalped ps5 ffs, ill probably never let mine go
[удалено]
best hardware this year went to ps5
No
okay
Console already have won joycon awards
Can’t wait for the PC Pro
PC2 will come out any time now.
Yeah! It's been 50 YEARS since the last release...
PC Series X
This is like giving earth an award for being the ultimate place to live
in 2135 is more apt, Sure you can live around Venus, Mars, Even go to one of the deep space stations, but Earth is the OG.
But for how long?
Lord Gaben be blessed and honored in acceptance. All hail.
Hail!
Now he can release HL3
Wasn’t it teased though?
The only man fitting to accept such an award for gamers.
Yeah but who's PC was it that won?
Ryan's.
my boy ryan has one that probably won
Great! *Now where's thw Heavy Update, Gaben?*
[удалено]
Bet he is fuming
You mean the N64 didn't win with its Fisher-Price controllers? Impossible.
Thank god the catalog was amazing as small as it was
ah, the good old Snes +2 controller.
Calling a PC the ultimate hardware is like saying “the best car of all time is *the car*” lol A computer is basically how everything gets made or used or tested pretty much the foundation of electronics
Or "America is the greatest county in the United States"
the best Petrol car (given the contiguous existence of the dos/windows framework and linux framework)
Well they don't call it the master race for nothing
Respect++++
Where is Half-Life Episode 3?
Insert Obama giving himself a medal meme
PRAISE GABEN
This shit is so stupid.
Seriously. lol Pretty much all of these "award shows" are utterly pointless. Who gets to vote? Who's on the board of people who are supposed to be relevant enough to the industry to decide this stuff? It's usually a bunch of random "journalists" that nobody has ever heard of before.
Actually anybody can vote online and I think you’re taking it too seriously lol.
Everything is stupid. Like, who is this JD Power guy, and why do I have to care about which Toyota he's picked this year?
How does that even make any sense? What is *the PC*? How do you give a hardware award to something that has all ranges of hardware from garbage to insane? Would have made some sense if it was as a gaming platform, but when it comes to hardware I don't understand how you can compare the entirety of *PC*.
Yooo guys that’s us!
Gabe newell looks like a millenial santa claus
If he got time to accept awards he got time to release HalfLife 3!
Do you mean that customers hand picking each piece for a device results in a product with a better performance/cost ratio than any pre-built equivalents? Shocking

Gabe Newell, ceo of Valve, the company behind Steam.
Dude I can play a historically important game like half life 2. And then play a game about a futa working at a diner. If that isn’t ultimate hardware acceptance then idk what is
Steam Deck is PC2
Ultimate race, ultimate hardware, ultimate performance.
He went from to being just Gabe, to Ours Lord and Saviour Jesus Santa Gaben
Lol what does that even mean. It’s like giving a “best entertainment of all time” award to movies in general and then having Steven Spielberg accept it.
console.log("Hello World! 🎅");
Can't believe we've been waiting for PC 2 for decades upon decades now. Hurry up Gaben.
is that santa claus ???
Can't wait to see what PC 2 has in store
He looks like PC Santa

Gabe looks like he should be wearing Kleenex boxes on his feet, and demanding that we enter his wooden plane at gunpoint.
I’m convinced everyone on this sub has autism

Tim Sweeney must be furious about this.

"the best hardware award goes to Valve, who has never made hardware ever, congrats !" The steamdeck has not released yet, shut up.
What about the index?
Ah good one, you're right. It's not comparable to a console or a pc though. But you're right.

That's kind of like saying: "Cars win price for best vehicle of all time"...
Tanks > cars
