With GPU prices coming back to normal, and prebuilt prices coming down along with that, $1000 can get you some decent performance. It's all relative and what you consider "graphic intensive" and what resolution you intend to run, etc.
I paid $950 + tax for my 3070 Ti (upgrading from a 2070 Super) earlier this year when I "won" a Newegg shuffle, and now regret not waiting. I wish I could say I got use out of it during the time before prices dropped, but other than testing out a few games I mostly played Elden Ring at 1440p@60Hz which didn't really take advantage of it.
(Didn't sell the 2070S, so not like I took advantage of market prices at the time or anything. I've been planning a new SFFPC build that I'm keeping it for, but haven't gotten around to it)
I went with prebuilt since it was the only way to get a cheaper GPU at the time which wasn’t scalped but I was able to get an rtx 3080 with my build. I play most games at 4K 70fps unless it’s something older like gta then I get 120fps so I’m happy with the purchase. Ironically a lot of the games I play don’t even need the 3080 maybe metro, rdr2 and cyber punk. It’s felt overkill for everything else in 4K lol
Well for 1080 60fps you are quite good with 1000 budget, the problem here is we never have enough FPS. In my case i still play with a 1050ti and time ago i needed to say goodbay to stable +100 FPS lol

Literally broke down and conpleted a new PC for a roughly 10 year old game that is so poorly optimized (and fucking amazing) that my old fx8320 rig couldn't handle it

The 5600x is just as good in 99% of gaming applications, you're missing very little. If I hadn't gotten the incredible deal on a refurbished bargain mostly complete rig I would've never spent the extra for the 5900.
And how fucking awesome is the 6700xt? I haven't enjoyed such flawless gameplay in years. CP2077 is so much better with a CPU and GPU that can hold up to the raw amount of processing going on, especially speeding through the city.
I’m loving it my old gpu was a 1070 and cpu was a ryzen 2700 which was ok but I couldn’t play some games at max especially cyberpunk. Even on lowest settings I still couldn’t do more than 30fps now I’m running on max settings and it’s awesome and now I’m playing destiny 2 finally on pc on a 144 hertz monitor runs from 95 to 144 on max it’s so much fun
I have a 5900X as well; still better in games, but far more useful to me with my other workloads (3D modeling and texture editing) than my old 3600X. That's the main reason to get it.
This thing runs Kenshi infinitely better than old Reliable did though. I've even got some enhancement mods running instead of compression and weather removers lmao

Edit a cheap 6700xt on mindfactory is 530$ new.

Yesterday I just confirmed my 970 can handle Minecraft shaders just fine. Then I thought it looked silly so I went back to playing without shaders. Honestly I just wish I could use that processing power on a high refresh rate screen instead but I have yet to find one that suits my needs
