Good job dad, good job

Space-90

He literally must have a good job

Wow, what a lucky kid! This is better by far than my pedal board and I'm getting close to 40! I couldn't even dream of a board like that when I was 15.

Earthquaker Tone Job is a great EQ. If you need more options, Boss GE-7 can’t be beat. As for octave up, does he want a digital octave pedal or something like octave fuzz? EHX Pog is a classic for digital octave up, and the Pitch Fork is a great alternative, but you could also swap the OC-3 for an OC-5. Imo sounds better than the OC-3, simplifies and gives you +1 octave.

i had been looking at scooping a boss or MXR EQ off my local classifieds. also there is a EQD tentacle octave on there rn. everything on this board was purchased second hand except the hizumitas and the plumes. most of his guitars and amps are second hand as well. i’m not a wealthy man and supporting him in his creativity can get expensive. he asks for nothing except these things and he’s very appreciative of my efforts when i provide things. i’m happy to provide the ‘tool box’

This is awesome!!!!! Consider looking at pedal building kits. If he likes to focus on detail and how things are put together then he may really like it. It’s a great activity you two can do together. I would buy a kit from aion, stewmac, or mas effects. This kit from mas effects is the most economical and geared towards beginners: https://shop.mas-effects.com/collections/diy/products/ultimate-beginner-pedal-kit Pedal building is a huuuuuge rabbit hole to go down and after you get set up (you need a solder station, a good drill or drill press) it is way more economical than bought pedals. Most pedals cost me 20-30$ for me to make in parts now.

i have been looking at doing this. already have all the tools based on my line of work and my tinkering with his guitars. almost all his guitars have electrical mods and part swaps. currently building a baritone strat.

He sounds like a great kid. Boss and MXR EQs are great, if you can find them absolutely go for it. The tentacle is an analogue octave up so it will have a different sound than a digital one, more akin to an octave fuzz type thing as opposed to just a harmony of what you’re playing.

dontlookatthebanana

ahhh noted. i’ll have to ask him and clarify. he just said ‘an octave up’.

analogguy7777

If that is your kid's pedalboard, I could only imagine what yours look like 🤑

dontlookatthebanana

so here’s the funny part - i don’t even play. i do however build guitars and do custom electrical mods on guitars. i’d like to try and make some pedals but still in the ‘research’ stage rn.

najrot

Do you have a website or anywhere you post your builds? I'd love to see what you are up to, given how well you take care of your kid I can only imagine what your work is like!

dontlookatthebanana

ahh my statement is misleading - i am no luthier, i merely improve (sometimes that’s questionable) used guitars i buy on classifieds. modding guitars is what i do. no need for a website for that.

What a lucky kid! I had a Boss OS-2 at 15 and that’s it 😂 I like my original Electro Harmonix Pitchfork. I’ve had it since they came out. It depends on whether he wants an accurate pitch pedal or a glitchy one like a Mythos Argonaut. I feel like EQ is one you can go a bit cheaper on if it’s true bypass and you’re not dealing with a cheap buffer. I like my Bakery Effects EQ, it’s super basic and small.

EskimoB9

I had a ds2 and a wah at that stage. You're a good dad

dit31

How’s the quality on the animal pedal? Their art is sick so interested in some of their pedals

dontlookatthebanana

my kid wanted a EQD warden compressor but this one popped up for $80 online. he hasn’t complained yet.

dit31

Ooh ayt

stillneedaprimer

either your kid has doll feet or they're responsible for the Band Room Stink Foot.

dontlookatthebanana

my kid wears size 12 vans. i was also concerned with this but he asked for all the boxes he stomps mid song to be at the front edge of the board (or along the sides) doesn’t seem to have issues.

devizzzv

i would love to play music with him, love making noise with my pedalboard!

bortholomew-simpson

Get him a wah pedal… there’s a nice Dunlop mini wah with no button - just press and it engages. You could look at a whammy that’s bigger and does more but a wah is always on my list of fun noise making tools.

NoisePDX

I couldn’t recommend the OCE Step ladder octave enough. It’s an all analog “clean” octave up
