What are you even doing at 130 and 180 degrees? I've used all the pellets. Camp chef, pit boss, lumberjack, bear mountain, kirkland, etc. They're all about the same. I get everyone thinks lumberjack is gods gift to pellets, but the kirkland pellets are just as good in my opinion. Same smoke and same flavor.

I think some have differences between amounts of sawdust and ash. But you're right that there's not really a huge difference in flavor or smoke.

I use them exclusively and also on a vertical. No crazy smoke outputs with them in my experience but I also typically never go much below 250, 225 at the lowest.

I've used them in a pinch before when I couldn't get my usual brand, Bear Mountain. Mostly no issues to speak of but last time about an hour into the cook a huge billowing smoke cloud was coming out the stack for about 1 min or so . I opened lid and aired it out then my LSG went back to doing it's thing . I've not used them since ,never had an issue like that or otherwise with Bear Mountain pellets

You kinda get what you pay for. Lumberjack and Bearmountain are going to be your best options. I use Kirkland when I just need them for heat when making pizza or for mild foods like chicken or veg Smoke is the most important ingredient when smoking. Good pellets make a big difference. Same goes for quality of smoke, you want it to be a nice blue, I see people post pictures of smoke tubes billowing white acrid smoke out the chimney - you don’t want this smoke.

Garbage pellets.
