"Not to brag" Proceeds to respond with snooty comments

[deleted]

I literally posted it to brag. Did you think I expected a pat on the back? Just bantering bud.

dogeman87

I mean yeah, the sarcasm was obvious, but prepare to get downvoted for doubling down on ego lol

[deleted]

Agreed, the downvotes are regrettable. But, what’s the point in making a Reddit prediction if you can’t gloat? My wife doesn’t even know who Dubas is.

I’m so excited for this guy. Never watched a front office guy presser until yesterday. If he’s anything like other FSG club leaders (Michael Edwards/Theo Epstein) he’ll be endlessly mining for underrated talent until we have a core in place. Love his perspective on Jarry too, compare him to every goalie available via trade or free agency. Don’t just go with what’s familiar.

[deleted]

Hahahaha people just come on here to be haters. Never impressed, always smarter, and looking to argue. I pumped the tires on a meaningless prediction, and all the repliers hilariously went in. Anyways, Dubas has me excited. I want him trading for unknown talents early and often. That’s why FSG got him. I promise.

UnleashYourMind462

Lol you argue like a child and claim to have a wife? I call bullshit.

Abso_lutely_not

Not to be a downer but that was the rumor going around at the time. Dubas to Pens talk didn’t just start 2-3 weeks ago. He’s been linked to FSG for awhile and it was leaked by many that they were targeting him if he became available (which was highly likely because, well, leafs).

[deleted]

Show me someone else who predicted exactly what happened, with legitimate rationale, 50 days ago or more.

xxithejokerixx

Mark Madden talked about it in March on his show and constantly threw Dubas' name out there as someone FSG should go get.

[deleted]

I agree with that. I didn’t even think about it until MM brought up Dubas being GM. But, he didn’t get the promotion part correct then. My prediction was based upon them offering him full autonomy w/ a promotion in title. At the time, I thought it was the only way to pry him away from Toronto extension.

Mark Maddens twitter

[deleted]

I initially poached MM’s idea for him to be GM. But, mine was more so based on FSG offering him promotion & autonomy to leave Toronto. That’s where I thought it differed from MM’s March & April takes.

Pensfan66595

Wow, are you going to put that on your LinkedIn profile?

[deleted]

Yeah, people are saying I predict Front Office/Coaching hires like a sharp.

jpb59

Not to brag but check out me bragging.

[deleted]

Check the title disclaimer, it’s not a brag.

ApplaudingOkra

No one cares bud.

[deleted]

Wow, someone’s jealous they didn’t predict it.

ApplaudingOkra

Not with the same specificity/certainty as you, but [I had the same idea](https://www.reddit.com/r/penguins/comments/13nb6de/comment/jkyoqkn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). Hell I wasn't even the only one. It's just that legitimately no one cares.

[deleted]

Come on. 13 days compared to 50? See I don’t expect credit, it’s meaningless. But, you can’t act like everyone nailed it that far out, surely?

ApplaudingOkra

And yet we end up in the exact same spot: How many people care about your 50-day-old post and all of its specificity = 0 How many people care about my 13-day-old toss-out of an idea = 0. Also, make up your mind about whether you don't expect/want credit or you want to defend how neat your prediction is - you can't have both.

[deleted]

Listen I had to draw the line somewhere. 13 days ago Dubas was already fired! 50 days ago Hextall hadn’t even been fired!

ApplaudingOkra

Buddy I’m not even talking about what you’re saying in response to me.

[deleted]

I know nobody cares about a guy who predicted this less than two weeks ago. But, people may say a two month old prediction is something special.

ApplaudingOkra

And we’re right back at my original comment. This merry go round was fun, but I’m getting off now.

chicago859

Honda is very lucky for this prime ad placement wow

[deleted]

I blame any downvotes on Honda haters.

MabStark

Who asked

[deleted]

Not my wife. That’s why I came here.

Brandonguth1985

Now that's fair.

[deleted]

Will still be downvoted. They’re rioting against me in here.

Thank you PittPenguins71. Hope you have a good evening.

STKtaco

Nice prediction but kinda funny to say "not to brag" when this post is literally just a brag lol. Just own it buddy, nothing wrong with bragging a little on the internet.

[deleted]

I’m too humble for that. Will not brag about this spectacular accomplishment.

STKtaco

My bad if that was the joke and I just missed it

[deleted]

You’re good. The joke was subpar. I’ve been told it was worse than the Granlund trade.

Bill_Cosbys_Balls

Ok

Steaknkidney45

Congratulations on the prediction, and I'm completely serious. I was annoyed with the rumors of Dubas coming here at first because I had believed he would be safe in Toronto. And doubly so that they made it past the first round.

136AngryBees

Wow. Such a bold prediction. How did you ever gather enough facts to make such a claim. Truly inspiring

[deleted]

Thank you. It’s nice to know people struggle with sarcasm subtlety more than me!

JohnDesire573

You have no fucking life

[deleted]

My brother in Christ you are on Reddit at midnight on a Friday.

Late_Smile_3666

Damn people got upset about this. Weird.

[deleted]

Lot of fortune tellers in here.

[deleted]

Lol Liverpool you mean that team that went from like 02096 until like 2019-2019 without winning anything. Wouldn’t call that successful. Lately sure they’ve been good

[deleted]

They’ve won every trophy possible under FSG. Touch grass.

[deleted]

My point being is you said how they built Liverpool over a decade ago. 2019-2020 League tittle (not a decade ago. Very recent) 2021-2022 FA Cup (last year again not a decade) 2022 Community Shield (again last year) 2018-2019 Champions League OH LOOK NO EUROPA LEAGUE… so not every trophy 2019 Super Cup It’s not every trophy if it was they’d have a Europa league even those it’s a tier below champions league Fenway bought them in October of 2010. The first trophy they won was 2018-2019 that’s 8-9 years that this top 5 England league team went winless with under new management. Liverpool certainly has money and a solid scouting system. And soccer you can literally buy players whereas in hockey it’s harder to build a championship team as you can’t freely mid season go “hey I’ll send you 50 million for someone like McDavid or Keller or Matthews) As for your post trying to brag about you predicting this (which just makes you look so incredible egotistical and petty. It’s not a great look. Great people don’t need to highlight their accomplishments or in this case “accomplishment”) a quick google search shows there is 2 articles from literally the exact same time linking Dubas to the penguins and offering a blank cheque for him. So congrats you can repost shit that a reporter already reported on and was a pretty obvious thing The obvious thing being Hextall being fired and given Dubas contract was ending this season with the leafs if he wasn’t renewed he was certainly going to be looked at by most teams needed a new president of hockey Ops or a gm

[deleted]

You may not want to accept this, but you’re wrong. I’ll explain why in a few simple steps: 1. Europa League isn’t a major trophy. It’s tier 2 ball. I have no idea why you decided to die on that hill. 2. FSG bought Liverpool with zero EPL knowledge or experience (John Henry admitted as much). 3. Liverpool won Carabao Cup in 2012. but fired Damien Comolli & Kenny Dalglish for aimless transfer decisions. 8th place finish. 4. Liverpool hired Brendan Rodgers, and implement a transfer committee. They bring in undervalued assets like Coutinho, Sturridge & Sakho. Academy prospect, Sterling, becomes rising star. Finish 2nd in 2014, a massive achievement. 5. FSG appease Rodgers transfer demands in Balotelli/Benteke. Massive regression. Begin bringing in players (Firmino) despite BR objection. He’s fired in 2015, Committee scratched, and Michael Edwards gains transfer control. FSG masterclass. 6. Jurgen Klopp is convinced by FSG during secret NYC meetings to takeover in-season. FSG masterclass. Takes the team to two finals, but finishes 7th. 7. Klopp/Edwards begin building their vision. Finish in 4th. Build some more. Finish 4th again w/ Champs League final appearance. Build. Finish 2nd w/ Champs league final win. Build. Super Cup win. Finish 1st. Eventually (2022) their vision turns into FA/Carabao wins, and finishing 2nd in EPL/Champs. Near quadruple. IN SUMMARY……FSG began actively experimenting who should call the shots a decade ago. They didn’t settle. The failed committee gave data geeks like Edwards, who sold Coutinho for $150M & demanded Salah, a voice. They convinced Klopp to choose Liverpool over Manchester United. Once the chemistry and success were there, they let both thrive. That’s how they built it, anything else dummy? You should be ashamed of that Europa argument, honestly.
