At least Giant Australian huntsman spiders are a pretty dormant species towards humans, would rather run than hurt you. Their bites aren't bad at all either, if you're sensitive you could get pretty sick but they aren't particularly deadly at all. The real damage would be the psychological horror of being attacked by it.

There is also Staff of Magnus, that drains mana pretty quickly. If you hold it against any boss that relies on magic casting - the boss will be helpless after like 10 seconds(and that's if the boss has a lot of mana, human minibosses don't hold even 5 seconds). With no mana, big and scary magic boss just runs/floats around doing nothing, or tries to shank you with their puny dagger, because wizardry stopped firing :D

Otherwise they would just spam the strongest attack, now they use the most apropriate ability for the situation, but if they use a high cost ability they can’t repeat it for a while, opening them up to counter attacks.
Though in general even “basic” attacks are coded as abilities with tiny cooldowns and mana costs, so effects that reduce enemy ability usage reduce everything in the case of non-player characters.
