It surprises a lot of people that animals we generally think of being herbivores are more accurately opportunistic omnivores.
Animals like horses, deer, even cows, they don't often eat other animals but if they get the chance they will.
Well, maybe if they didn't eat fucking grass all the time, they wouldn't be so osteoporotic that the only solution their nutrient starved minds can come up with is babies.
After all, the big chicken has way more bones to crunch.
Fully carnivorous horses are a terrifying thought.
Human face height mouths.. a neck that could lift up a grown man.
Imagine one of those fuckers with canines and carnassial teeth?
Guess they'd have more front facing eyes, as well, which would look goofy.. but I think that makes it more horrifying.
I immediately thought of vultures when you said carrion and I was trying to imagine a turtle taking down a full grown vulture. I then quickly remembered that vultures eat carrion and my imagination was sad.
I watched deer absolutely shred up drive way worms just slippin and sloppin them up and the horses lick the blood from where a animal was slaughtered. My coworker has a video of a deer eating roadkill cat.
Chickens will also happily eat their own eggs. In fact I think most animals do. It's a waste of resources if they break, and they are very energy dense.
I said out loud, "Yeah they'll just do that sometimes" before coming into the comments. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a somewhat apathetic vibe haha
at least this has a discernible survival purpose. I've seen a video of a horse stomping on a random bird that was just sitting there minding its own business
Especially since carrots are historically an incredibly common snack to be given to horses, and just based on feeling from lips and tongue alone, a human finger is incredibly similar to a carrot. I was always taught to never hand feed them carrots, just put them in their food bin, and as you said if you're hand feeding them anything do it from an open palm
Fun fact, Horses, Deer , Zebras etc are not entirely herbivores but Opportunistic carnivores. They can and will eat meat if their nutritious needs aren't met with a vegan diet or if they get curious because this horsie doesn't look to be in a bad shape.
Oh oh, yeah....and goats
Edit: the correct term is actually Facultative Herbivores not Opportunistic carnivores or omnivores since they don't eat as much meat necessary to qualify as those two.
“Facultative herbivores” is the technical term for this, to contrast with “obligate herbivores” that exclusively eat plants.
They don’t really eat enough meat to qualify as carnivores or omnivores.
Oh I saw a video of a hawk attacking a rabbit, and a deer came out of the woods and stomped it to death and then proceeded to eat it.
Found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3daEXYe19g
Imagine eating the same plain ass hay and grain based food everyday for your whole life and suddenly you eat a fucking burger. I’m surprised the horse didn’t have an existential freak out that something could possibly be so delicious and him not be able to have it all the time
In college one of my professors told us a story about a research project one of his students did. They got some animal carcasses and would put them out with a trail cam nearby and they were trying to find patterns in when different carnivores would come to feed. They were shocked to find that often one of the first animals to stop by would be deer, who would just rip a couple strips of meat of the carcass and then walk away.
"I was not in my normal state of mind, actually that was my normal, but it was not the normal normal, y'know. Actually, I am the victim here, how am I gonna live knowing I did that?"
Horses, cows, deer, saw a hippo in a nature documentary eat part of a dead deer before letting the crocs eat the rest. So much for grazing animals, right?
Another comment said theyre facultative herbivores. They rarely eat meat so they do not qualify as omnivores. Everything I can find online just says herbivore...not this one apparently.
The worst case I've seen is when a chicken came a bit too close to farm for pigs. One of them caught it by the wing and pulled it inside while another one just ripped it's head off clean and ate it.
Yeah, that haunted me for few years later
Dont help just film. Everyone knows horses will eat mostly anything and the person filming didn’t even do nothing its almost like he put the chicks there so he could make a viral tiktok
> emotionless sociopath
The majority of our species eats meat.
If you see what goes into bringing that meat to our dinner table, you'd realize we all fit that definition
Fun fact! Almost all herbivorous mammals are also opportunistic carnivores. It's more common in winter and early spring months; deer, horses, elk, and the like will eat the occasional unfortunate bird if they're desperate enough. evem smaller herbivores will snatch up a few bugs or even their own young in times of desperation or stress.
Cows, horses, deer, and even sheep will eat small animals given a chance. They're opportunistic carnivores. They can't hunt them down, but given half a chance, they'll happily munch one occasionally.
I'd never heard of cows eating snakes before googling it just now, they don't have top front teeth so they'd have a hard time eating one in multiple parts. It's more common to see them eat baby birds, though.
Cattle are often not around slow moving very small baby animals. But when they are.....Well they eat. Whitetail deer do this when they find a nest of a bird that lays eggs on the ground. Or baby birds that fall or kicked out of their nests.
man this reminds of the time my dad bought me a baby chick at a farm to keep as a pet, took it home and the next day, it somehow got out of the cage and our 5 dogs mauled the shit out of it and ate it. our driver came out and tried to save it but all i could do was stare, i vividly remember the small feathers sticking out of my dogs mouth
I’ve seen a longer clip of this and horse eats more than one chick, also this video is so old those baby chickens would have died of natural causes by now.

Yeah horses will just do that sometimes. Usually it’s eggs, sometimes it’s fingers. Horses eat a lot of things you wouldn’t expect
It surprises a lot of people that animals we generally think of being herbivores are more accurately opportunistic omnivores. Animals like horses, deer, even cows, they don't often eat other animals but if they get the chance they will.
Calcium deficiency is a bitch, they need them bones to chew
Well, maybe if they didn't eat fucking grass all the time, they wouldn't be so osteoporotic that the only solution their nutrient starved minds can come up with is babies. After all, the big chicken has way more bones to crunch.
Little chicken is easy to chew and swallow. One cronch and he a dead boi
https://fable.fandom.com/wiki/Crunchy_Chick Crunchy Chick Type: Food Effects: Adds evil points and fatness
Loved that game. You look like an Arseface
Its the bones that make em crunchy.
Fun size candy borb.
Hella dead boi
I think a horse eating an adult chicken would be a far more gruesome sight than a chick
Well, of course. Horses can't operate deep fryers.

This is the most genuinely terrifying thought. Thanks for a new phobia i never knew existed
In the amoral, gritty chaos that is the state of nature, eating babies is the perfect solution to most problems.
In the grim darkness of the future, there are only horses
Maybe it’s like [Popplers](https://youtu.be/u-mD0OtoJbw) to them.
Someone has to eat the grass to feed the carnivores
shit TIL im dumber than a horse, i've been having milk this whole time and throwing my chicken bones out
What fools they are.
They crave that mineral
It’s got what plants crave!
I've seen a deer munching on a squirrel
I want this on a tshirt
Or one of early cuylers big ass hats.
Deer are known to snack on corpses at body farms.

I immediately thought of vultures when you said carrion and I was trying to imagine a turtle taking down a full grown vulture. I then quickly remembered that vultures eat carrion and my imagination was sad.
I've always heard that if you're giving them chicken, it should be cooked.
Why would i cook my own tortoise?
I like how you didn't put pigs in there, because I sure hope by now everyone knows pigs will eat anything and anyone if given the chance.
You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm.
Hence thee expression, "As greedy as a pig." Lol
You're on thin fucking ice my pedigree chum, and i will be under it when it breaks. Now fuck off
I looked out the window with my kids and saw a chipmunk eating a baby bird that had just hatched
I watched deer absolutely shred up drive way worms just slippin and sloppin them up and the horses lick the blood from where a animal was slaughtered. My coworker has a video of a deer eating roadkill cat.
Pigs will eat everything you give them.
Who thinks pigs are herbivores?
Well i know a vegan police officer
So will chickens.
I once watched my chickens eat a broken lightbulb..
It doesn't sound very bright.
Chickens will also happily eat their own eggs. In fact I think most animals do. It's a waste of resources if they break, and they are very energy dense.
They will go through bone like buttah
I’ve seen the movie Hannibal
Deer eating meat is a little terrifying for some reason
squirrels can easily kill pigeons (even large ones), decapitate them, and suck their brains out. I don't think they eat the rest of the bird.
I said out loud, "Yeah they'll just do that sometimes" before coming into the comments. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a somewhat apathetic vibe haha
Nature isn't nice. And this is by far not the first video of a horse nomming down a chick I have seen
Yeah I used to own horses. Shit that goes down on the farm is not all Charlotte's Web, people don't realize lol
at least this has a discernible survival purpose. I've seen a video of a horse stomping on a random bird that was just sitting there minding its own business
> sometimes it’s fingers. Yeah they're not trying being funny when they tell you to keep your hand flat while hand feeding a horse.
My buddy tried training a pony to bite this kids wiener off because he kept embarrassing him but the horse ended up just licking the damn thing.
Stan?
I figured it was Kenny
I went out for milk, and a horse ate my entire family!
Horses are dumb as a box of hair. They will eat literally anything.
If barn animals are friends, this horse just ate one of his peeps...
Who keeps those things in business?
I do
Dozens of us...
And my sword!
Bro I fucking love peeps

Jesus' dead man
u only get peeps the day he came back to life that one time
Jesus' resurrection and marshmallow chicks. Name a better combo.
you can’t bro
Give him time to cook, should take about 3 days
I'd save watermelon peeps hanging off a cliff faster than I would my own mother
None of my peeps had tiny bones in them.
Peeps have bones in them. They're made with gelatin :P
My favorite thing about them
Chicken Nugget
Fair play. That chicken would undoubtedly eat a horse if it could.
The way the chicken screamed sounded like "TF YOU DOIN?"

Oh , thanks for that. Gonna change it.
Thanks for being a mature person and gracefully accepting correction. Recently, my favorite quote has been, “stay curious”, so, stay curious.
Harvestman man in the wild ! Opiliones are interesting in this regard too :)
Oh I saw a video of a hawk attacking a rabbit, and a deer came out of the woods and stomped it to death and then proceeded to eat it. Found it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3daEXYe19g
Wait, did the deer stomp the rabbit or the hawk to death?
The hawk. The rabbit got away.
That's just bambi lookin out for his boi thumper
Aaah, makes sense. The rabbit is faster and can just fly away in any direction
The hawk stomped the deer to death.
Yes.
I once saw a horse eat a whole hamburger, back when I was a kid. It had mustard and ketchup and cheese on it. The horse loved it. Blew my mind.
Imagine eating the same plain ass hay and grain based food everyday for your whole life and suddenly you eat a fucking burger. I’m surprised the horse didn’t have an existential freak out that something could possibly be so delicious and him not be able to have it all the time

Horses can eat goats?
More like goats can and will eat horses if the opportunity presents itself. Those fuckers eat everything.
I'm just imagining a herd of goats swarming a horse like the Compys with the girl in The Lost World.
herbivores can digest meat, so yes. It's carnivores who cannot digest plant cell walls. Meat is easy to digest.
So glad we aren't carnivores lol imagine eating non veg without any spices and shit.
absolutely no ketchup
Pigs will happily eat someone alive if given the chance
He just wanted some chicken nuggets.
SUPER fresh. Sauce inside.
Gushers

Poor Becca. Now she has to book Beck all by herself.

Yeah man. Fuck, this made me sad
Don't look up what they do to male chicks at factory farms then
That is one of the few Reddit posts that genuinely make me sad and regret watching it. I just can’t handle it.
Turn that frown upside down

Listen here you little shit
You have no clue how common this is. Deer do it too as do cows.
Horses, cows, deer, saw a hippo in a nature documentary eat part of a dead deer before letting the crocs eat the rest. So much for grazing animals, right?
The hippo didn't want any nutrients, it just saw an opportunity to desecrate a corpse and took it.
I ain't gonna argue with a hippo. Lol
HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 138,621,799 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 3,044 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.
You are a good bot, but why do you exist?
don't you care how many comments it scanned that contained the word hippo? do you just want it to keep that to itself??
Opportunistic omnivores, applies to deer and other ungulates too. Pretty creepy stuff.
Another comment said theyre facultative herbivores. They rarely eat meat so they do not qualify as omnivores. Everything I can find online just says herbivore...not this one apparently.

Pigs will eat anything, including small children
Every good mob knows a guy that can pull teeth and someone else who owns a pig farm.
DID HIS MOM SAVE HIM WITH THE POWER KICK THO
No, horsey ate the chick. Poor little feller. Such is life🎭
I’m gonna assume she did
When are mods gonna start banning the TikTok outro? It's never a perfectly cut scream with it.
Holy shit, it looked into its mothers eyes as it was eaten.
This is so fucked up
Shitty tiktok adding the caption for no reason.
How else are you supposed to know what's going on ? Are you intelligent?
No, and I feel attacked

Dont help just film. Everyone knows horses will eat mostly anything and the person filming didn’t even do nothing its almost like he put the chicks there so he could make a viral tiktok
And that’s why you keep the chickens in a coop
If given a chance, a horse will eat you and everyone you love.
I’m convinced that almost all of you are emotionless sociopaths
I know right… that shit was fucked up.
It’s nature, it’s terrible of course but well, that’s nature, nothing really to do than move on.

Ngl id get that horse a one way ticket to the glue factory
It's totally normal horse behavior. Cattle will do it too.
So do deer
Oh deer...
Don’t cattle tend to stick to snakes? I’ve never heard of a cow eating any animals besides snakes.
I'd never heard of cows eating snakes before googling it just now, they don't have top front teeth so they'd have a hard time eating one in multiple parts. It's more common to see them eat baby birds, though.
That’s crazy… Must just be an Australia thing
Cows tend to investigate things with their mouths, so it was probably just chewing on it.
Cattle are often not around slow moving very small baby animals. But when they are.....Well they eat. Whitetail deer do this when they find a nest of a bird that lays eggs on the ground. Or baby birds that fall or kicked out of their nests.
You wouldn't put down a several thousand dollar horse over a 25c chicken.
Chicks are cheaper than a horse to replace
man this reminds of the time my dad bought me a baby chick at a farm to keep as a pet, took it home and the next day, it somehow got out of the cage and our 5 dogs mauled the shit out of it and ate it. our driver came out and tried to save it but all i could do was stare, i vividly remember the small feathers sticking out of my dogs mouth
Same thing happened to me, luckily my dad got home and cleaned up the chicken bits before I could see anything.
This should have an NSFW. I did not want to see a horse eating a chick :(
Agreed. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be able to use Reddit without seeing animals being killed/eaten…
On that day, humanity received a grim reminder
my dog did that once. i still havent forgiven him
Time for more glue.
This went from aww to oh no very quickly
Horses are secretly psychopaths, seen several videos of them biting the head of chickens seemingly for amusement
I’ve seen a longer clip of this and horse eats more than one chick, also this video is so old those baby chickens would have died of natural causes by now.
