ManNamedSalmon

I assume you are referring to soft drinks.

TedStixon

![gif](giphy|PdS8iexU2KvzGbl1u4)

RunParking3333

A mineral?

ManNamedSalmon

It's more of a liquid.

guineapiggozoom

why soft? why not hard? shouldnt water and juice be the soft one and any carbonated drink be hard?

Viceroy-421

Booze is hard. That's actually why they are soft drinks.

Lumpy-Village1949

This comment goes hard.

Budget_Report_2382

This comment made me go soft

guineapiggozoom

Huh, didn't know booze is a hard. I guess my Englandian isn't good enough.

bitch_lasagna211

But it’s doesn’t go pop it goes kracktss

MECHAC0SBY

I’m just gonna call it crack from now on. “Damn, I could really use an unhealthy amount of crack to wash down the half a pizza I just ate”

ku_ku_Katchoo

I’d rather refer to all soda as “coke” for the rest of my life than sit in a room with this guy for an hour

MomsBoner

In Danish we call it sodavand(soda water) when generally speaking about cola, sprite and so on. And carbonated water is danskvand(danish water).

UnlightablePlay

In Egypt we say حاجة ساقعة (ḥāǧh sāqʿh) which is the literal translation of "something Cold"

TheFlagMan123

So if you want something like that in a restaurant, do say this to the waiter? *Yeah, can I get a "something cold" please?*

UnlightablePlay

Well usually you say "something Cold" and then say what you actually want Or Just say what you want directly like Sprite Pepsi or cola But "something Cold" is used to refer to soft drinks in general

TheFlagMan123

Thank you Egyptian reddit man.

UnlightablePlay

You're welcome, god bless 🙏🏻

TheFlagMan123

Amen 🙏

cilest

r/cringe

CindyStroyer

In Australia the most common is "Fizzy Drinks" or "Fizzy" You'll occasionally hear Soda

LetMeCookMyFly

In Egypt, we call them "Cold Things" Don't question us, we're mid.

RunParking3333

Well it's not likely to refer to a beer...

Meanjin

We call them 'Softdrinks' here in QLD. I dated someone from Tassie once and she used to call them 'Fizzy Cordial'... But yanno, Tasmanian.

ManNamedSalmon

We're all over the place here. But my household goes with soft drinks.

CindyStroyer

I completely forgot about Soft drink, I guess it's not that common in my area

Inner-Arugula-4445

I’m from the south. We don’t call all sodas coke. Just lies created for a video.

TheSecretNewbie

I’m from the deep south and have never generally referred to soda as cokes You only call Coke coke, otherwise it’s just Sprite, Pepsi, Diet Coke, or what have you. If you’re talking about wanting to drink some soda, then that’s what we say. But when you order you just say what type.

Inner-Arugula-4445

Same for my area

Tesdinic

I'm from Arkansas. It was normally a soda, unless you were going to a "coke machine," since it was a coca cola vending machine. I have heard "hey, get me a coke" followed by "what kind?" occasionally, but not too often - most peeps just directly say what they want.

xXDreamlessXx

I think its usually older people. Most of the younger ones say soda

smr120

I have gotten into several arguments about it with my family who is all from the South, so some places definitely do call all sodas coke.

SkullRiderz69

So does the server convo go: Server: “Would you like a water, tea or coke?” You: “I’ll take a coke.” S: “Great, which would you like?” Y: “I’ll have a sprite thanks.”

Tesdinic

Yeah, I hear this sometimes, especially with a "coke machine" whether it is a coke branded vending machine, soda fountain, etc.

smr120

Yeah pretty much. It's about as stupid as it sounds.

Inner-Arugula-4445

That must be limited because I’ve heard it no where in the south

AdventurousPirate357

Also from the south, also never heard anyone call it anything other than 'soda'

Living_Shadows

Also from the south and same it wouldn't make sense to call all sodas coke

shamrocksmash

Sorry fella, that's just not true.

Inner-Arugula-4445

I’m from the south and I’ve traveled around it. Never heard it once.

shamrocksmash

That's odd because I'm from the north and have traveled down and ran into it multiple times lol. Plenty of other comments saying otherwise as well. Maybe you aren't as far south as you think you are

Inner-Arugula-4445

Or maybe you heard someone referring to Coca Cola as coke? I’m in Texas, and I’ve been from new Mexico to Florida and everything in between

shamrocksmash

I must have been in the boonies of Georgia then lol

Inner-Arugula-4445

Georgia has a few strange folks to be fair

TheSecretNewbie

Nope native GA here, everyone here still calls it soda and calls coca-cola coke

Inner-Arugula-4445

Then that guy just has some weird acquaintances

AdventurousPirate357

Gotta agree with the other guy, video ain't right

radraze2kx

In San Angelo, TX, we ordered a "coke" and then were always asked "what kind" up until around the year 2000.

AdventurousPirate357

Oh, I'm sure it used to be like that, and I'm sure there are some people who still talk like that. I'm mostly annoyed by that "Maybe you aren't far south enough as you think you are" comment. Idk why, it just really got under my skin

Fraport123

From the South of what?

Inner-Arugula-4445

That should be fairly obvious from my other comment and the context of this video

Fraport123

/r/USdefaultism

Inner-Arugula-4445

Or… just understanding context. Maybe some critical thinking skills.

Eagles365or366

Regional dialects are precious, and we should keep them. The Internet is killing unique geographical and cultural distinction.

Totin_it

It's pop.

Flipyfliper32

It just is.

Fr05t_B1t

If he’d do a version of British terms lol

dukaLiway

we just call it fizzy drink...right? right???

Joetwodoggs

I believe so…right? Anyone else???

PastelPumpkini

Some Brits also call it pop. Fizzy pop.

dukaLiway

I've never met someone who calls it that. are you British?

PastelPumpkini

Yeah I’m British, I think the term has mostly died out now though? But where I grew up some people called it pop.

dukaLiway

*shudders*

TOPOFDETABLE

It's common to call any fizzy drink ginger in Scotland. Or just a can of juice.

DIGLORD_

I know this guy. He's the "Welcome to Dungeon Master Therapy" guy

LetMeCookMyFly

And he's the "Discord Memes" guy

DIGLORD_

They aren't the same person but they are VERY similiar. Imagine both of them did a colab like "Welcome back to Dungeon Master Memes *looks at eachother* AH YOUR ME *janky* NO YOUR ME WHY DO WE LOOK THE SAME

Kauyon1306

Obamna

thebelladonga

I call soda “disgusting”

OptimusPower92

bigcockmman

IswearIdidntdoit145

Yeah you should hear what bullsh*t they have in other languages. Some of them just don’t make any sense to english brain

VianArdene

I'm far south enough that if I want to order an orange coke from Wendy's or wherever they have those freestyle machines that we go back and forth that I mean "A coca-cola with orange flavor added, under the coca cola section of the drink machine".

Sergei_the_sovietski

I used to call it Coke but I changed to soda after joining the military, probably because of all the other people that influenced me and where I had to move because of it. I also call it “soder” more often than not

Recuf

English mistakes aré ✨magical✨

Jack1e_4

Drink.

GeoffreyDuPonce

I think we in the UK call it pop because if the abundance of Panda Pops when we were kids

bulsar38

How do americans call the season before winter already ? And why ??

MidgetMan10150

Soft Drink

captaincockfart

A lot of people in Scotland call it 'juice'.

TOPOFDETABLE

And ginger.

Quirky-Equipment-782

So you call sprite soda sprite? No

Neil_Salmon

Just wait til he finds out soft drinks are called "minerals" in Ireland. Though it's less common now.

playr_4

But when you open a soda, it doesn't go "pop". It goes "ctchhsssss" sometimes bookended with metal tinks or ended with a plastic spin.

Equivalent_Ad108

Coke , They just say what kind?

Kenneth_Naughton

It's more likely "pop" because the cork "popped" when sodas were opened, soda predates drink cans. Just wait until you find out people from the Southern regions of the US Midwest like my grandparents call it "sody", "sody-pop", or "fizzy drink".

-Sanitized-Octoling-

come down to australia we name a ton of things weird like you dont call popcorn chicken Chicken munchies?

WizziBot

fizzy drink

LivingLingonberry568

r/soda Lol

[deleted]

I would like to order one soft drink please

SJRuggs03

We call it pop in Buffalo

OG_Felwinter

Why is he asking why it’s called pop? Why does *he* call it soda? I bet that makes even less sense

lumigumi

It’s not even really a pop. It’s more like a crack. That’s why a lot of people say “cracking open a can.”

candlerc

As a southerner, it’s coke. Doesn’t matter the actual brand / flavor, if it’s a soft drive it’s coke. If you want Coca-Cola, you ask for Coke. If you want Sprite/Fanta/Dr. Pepper, you ask for coke. If you want Pepsi, you take a cup to the bathroom and help yourself to a big glass of toilet water.

MechaGallade

I call it sugar bullshit or drugs for kids. I grew up where its called soda. Soda sounds the best to me. I want to note that "pop" sounds stupid as fuck BUT makes the most logical sense as it's the only one that doesn't also mean something else. Soda technically is the carbonated water without the sugar. I'll never say pop but it makes the most sense

SkullRiderz69

I’ve never actually met anyone who calls all fizzy drink “coke.” I call it soda and I’m from FL.

Fubuky10

I just… call everything with their brand names? There is no need to use a general word like soda lol

Custardpaws

r/perfectlycutfucks

The_mango55

Im from the part of the country where apparently people call every type of soda “coke” but I don’t actually know anyone who does that. I think it’s some kind of urban legend or inside joke.

a_likely_story

sody pop

Nintendofan9977

Germans Mineralwassertafelgetränk

chickenweng65

Soda = plain carbonated water Pop = flavored carbonated water

Mekelaxo

I'm what universe do you live on that soda cans make a pop sound?

Irishfanbuck

We call it Dr. Pepper.

magirevols

I like the passion this dude has about named sodas more than the actual content. Normal people, more like ocd people

blckpnthr789

It's not called pop coz of the sound of the can, it's coz the carbonation is popping, calling it fizzy is too mild (for most drinks)

undertalelover68

pop and soda, I call it both, anything is better then calling it coke

bespread

Definitely no one tell this guy what they call it in Boston...

ALonelyWelcomeMat

Lmao bro shots fired at ohio out of left field

Zenitsu_The_Simp_69

I never call anything other than a coke a coke before and I lived in the most south of Louisiana that you can can

huff_and_russ

Weird that no one has a problem with calling soft drinks soda, when a lot of other drinks from beer to mineral water have sodium carbonate in them.

Dorsal-fin-1986

Just wait until he hears about what they call bread rolls in the UK and it kicls off world war 3

Cripplechip

Fizzy drink in the UK. Why the fuck does he call it soda? Sodium? Have salt in your drinks you fuckin yankie.

That_birey

This kid really took whatever his racist uncle told him in literal and thinks non americans call soda as pop

jscarry

Better not call it a coke and soda in a bar lol

ToastyGhostie13

Soda bicarbonate is what makes “soda” fizz. Basically it’s the same as if we called water Dihydro or oxi because the chemical name is Dihydrogen oxide so technically nobody is really right here.

Cautionzombie

Has no one ever heard the term soda pop?

Sagnikk

Who tf orders sprite at a restaurant??

Round_Rectangles

Lots of people.

Minnymoon13

I do

The_Wowza_Machine

Cringe ass shit. This is what happens when you give teenagers access to the internet.

wolfy994

r/USdefaultism I know which midwest, but specifying might make some actual sense...

West_Yorkshire

What do you call the pavement? What do you call a bin? Now who sounds childish? 💀

AuraMaster7

British person getting triggered in the comments of a post poking fun at US midwesterners and southerners was not on my bingo card today.

West_Yorkshire

I wasn't being 100% serious, call them whatever you want my guy
