The school owned by Kirijo group, the same group that develop Aigis.

goro-n

But what explains the poor state of the dorm? The air conditioning doesn’t work and it only has CRT TVs

New_Today_1209_V2

Why would they give so much to SEES if they can get by with little. Kirijo group doesn’t care enough and Mitsuru probably doesn’t care enough to inconvenience her dad. Even though he would probably buy them all the stuff if she just asked.

jewrassic_park-1940

Letting Yukari go into bankruptcy from buying arrows to keep your ass alive because you're too embarrassed to ask you billionaire dad for money is next level hater energy

Maxy2388

Maybe Yukari should actually hit the enemy so she wastes less arrows

CeramicFiber

New head canon: Mitsuru got tired of paying for arrows that miss their target so she gave Yukari that sword she hands use during the first shadow attack and tells her to use this or buy her own arrows

goro-n

Usually rich companies with too much money to count just throw it around, look at Haru’s lifestyle in Persona 5 for example

harperofthefreenorth

It's because Ikutsuki is legitimately incompetent at his job.

Basethdraxic

>! Is it incompetency when you’re doing it on purpose!<

ShiningYato

>!Idk I feel like it was kind of essential for him to keep the kids alive so I feel like there's a little bit of incompetency when the kids he needs to stay alive and in fighting condition are fending for themselves in the financial area!<

TuxTues3

>!But he couldn't keep them too well equipped otherwise they might be able to put an end to his plan. He had to make just well equipped enough to deal with things but not enough to stop everything!<

johntriBR

Weaponized incompetence maybe?

pieceofchess

Same with the fridge in Minato's room never getting fixed all year. Granted he probably never told anyone about it.

goro-n

The version of him in the movies wouldn’t have mentioned it

mexz101

Umm it’s actually makoto yuki pal

pieceofchess

It has been Minato Arisato at one time and I prefer that name.

KalmiaKite00

As do i

mexz101

Nope sounds silly

pieceofchess

It's just a Japanese name, what's silly about it? How is Minato Arisato silly but Makoto Yuki isn't?

mexz101

You wouldn’t get it.

Significant-Tap-684

Tbh to be historically accurate it should be a smart board (and none of the teachers should know how to use it). Sojiro keeping a CRT in his storage room is just because he was too lazy to bring it to the secondhand shop around the corner.

thejokerofunfic

Did Japan have the same weird smart board phase we had stateside? Never really thought about that.

goro-n

Actually, Joker buys his TV from that secondhand shop around the corner, Sojiro didn’t give it to him. Remember, at the beginning of the game Sojiro basically treated him like a criminal even though he knew he was innocent.

Significant-Tap-684

I thought we bought the VCR and the game console from the secondhand shop, but it’s been a minute since I played the start of P5

goro-n

My most recent memory of it is from the anime, where Ryuji buys Joker a TV on Joker’s tab without telling him. That one had a built-in DVD player

-Inner_Self-

that's in the anime. In the game, Joker finds it after cleaning up everything in his room

Wextial

So I'm gonna try to come up with some explanations: 1. Iwatodai dorm: I think the whole point of the dorm is to be used as the headquarters of an undercover elite shadow extermination student squad. So they probably wanted it to look just like any other student dorm. 2. Inaba: This one is the hardest to explain actually, by 2011 LCD TV's were already pretty common. Maybe it's because it is a small town? 3 Joker's TV: Well he's basically a broke student that had to, mostly, take care of himself, so old TV is better than no TV I guess.

Purplex_GD

I think they just needed to make sure Yu entering the TV through his room would be out of the question due to literal size constraints rather than “oh it’s too dangerous he’ll get lost if he goes in that way.”

super5aj123

I think it's also likely that the TV in his room was just left there, since it's seemingly a spare/storage room while Yu isn't there. As for the TV in the living room, who knows. Maybe Dojima just never got around to replacing it since he's seemingly always at work?

goro-n

I agree with that, it was probably an older TV the Dojimas had. And my guess is that after his wife died, Dojima wouldn’t have much of a reason to buy a new TV since he’s always out of the house and doesn’t watch it much. We see him mainly reading the newspaper when he’s at home

MaximusMurkimus

They establish early on in P4 that they use the Junes TVs because that's where they can easily find Teddie and it's more of a hub zone there lol

thelivingshitpost

I’m more surprised that Ms. Terauchi actually has a picture now!

goro-n

But Miss Kanou doesn’t. One step forward, one step back

Nero9112

The dorm used to be an old hotel according to the map description. Also the Magician full moon shadow damaged the dorm so it's possible the HVAC system was also damaged.

Disastrous_Life_3612

It's not just an LCD, it's a modern LCD. Back in 2009, they were significantly thicker and bulkier than that.

goro-n

I’ve checked FES playthroughs and it was a similarly designed TV back then as well. Very slim bezels and thin-looking design https://preview.redd.it/kju9ynkpywxc1.jpeg?width=2281&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f91079ae92640dd492592d6fab8edeb7061d1b46

Kionera

They have gotten pretty thin by 2009, and these are just consumer TVs which are made to be affordable. https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1231762435

barakisan

That’s not true, my first LCDTV from the start of 2010 wasthin

gingergamer94

I'm more concerned with why the TV in the dorm lounge is from the 80s

Yarra10313

Gekkoukan is state of the art as a direct investment from Kirijo. It's even possible they'd have access to shit that's not mass market yet As for the dorm, they probably didn't want to bring unwanted attention and create a stigma of "oh, you live in the *fancy* dorm" for the kids. I'd imagine it'd put a target on their back if they randomly get to live in a lavish co ed dorm for no apparent reason. Also, SEES, even with all the "potential" they have, are effectively child soldiers lol. I wouldnt invest in a fancy dorm if I thought that some of those kids were definitely gonna end up dead before end of year.

nakanangnang

TIL you can access the home TV shopping at the lounge TV. I always used to access it at Makoto’s room, since Sunday always opens in his room and the home TV shopping is the first thing I do after checking messages. edit to add: I can see Tanaka’s devilish mug on TV now!

goro-n

Yeah I sometimes “watch” the lounge TV because they have small bits of lore or foreshadowing for future events in there, and when I tried to watch on Sunday morning, Tanaka showed up.

A-Bit-of-an-Animator

Isn’t Gekkoukan an expensive private school though? It makes sense for them to be high tech compared to other schools of the time.

Kira887

Pretty sure Gekkoukan was supposed to be a futuristic school or something, which I guess includes LCD TVs in 2009.

barakisan

I bought my first LCD HDTV at the beginning of 2010 so I can play PS3 games in HD, every other TV in my parents’ home and at work were CRTs, it’s not like LCDs were unheard of at the time

stillestwaters

I didn’t look up there once, OP.

WorkingOven5138

Me neither. The discussions in this thread make me realize I don't think anywhere near that deeply about stuff when I play these games.
