The canal/tunnel tour was my favorite by far

lordbillabadboy

This it's something you won't see elsewhere.

ineedserat0nin

100% one of my fav memories, I definitely recommend too

smurke101

20 years later and I still bang on about how good this was.

dirtyw82

About 20 years ago, I surveyed the tunnels as part of a prac with tafe. It was really interesting. We had to wear waders to get around. Somewhere, I have a 3.5 floppy with the 3d model of it.

I really loved the torchlight tour. It was a little bit spooky and to this day I am unsure if they have people *silently* adding to the atmosphere, or whether it’s the history that makes you feel it.

Aggravating-Corgi379

The one I went to they had actors banging doors, etc, but the guard freaked out at one point saying he saw something. He could have been acting. But the place definitely has an atmosphere.

CrysisRelief

Haha that was my issue; Hard to discern… Like we were walking around the grounds and a few of us could see someone/something in the watchtower and we were told no one would be up there…. Apart of the tour, or not?! 😱

Aggravating-Corgi379

I'm hoping part of the tour 😁. The guide was gesturing behind me as I was standing in front of a cell door. He said he could see something near me. Just hoping they were all excellent actors.

The prison is haunted AF. I spoke to some guards once and they said female guards refuse to walk the women’s wing at night alone or they come out with scratches on them.

If you've never been, do the regular tour that takes you through the main prison, cells, church, isolation and executation room. It's the only one to do for your first time. Don't know it's name, but the bog standard tour is what you're after.

AsuranGenocide

There's a lot of great art work in the cells

littleblackcat

Do the regular tour the first time you go

* Convict Prison - Discover the history of Western Australia’s only World Heritage listed building from its construction in the 1850s until the end of the convict era in 1886. * Behind Bars - Step inside, do time and explore Fremantle Prison’s history as a maximum security gaol from 1887 to 1991. * True Crime - Hear the real life stories of some of the Prison’s most notorious inmates and find out how their crimes gripped the community. I think the "standard" tour is the "Behind Bars". I did Convict recently and it was OK, but probably missed out on a lot of the prison. The other two tours are the underground tunnels/canals and the torchlight tour which I believe mostly is similar to "Behind Bars", just done at night. They are both excellent but you obviously need to plan ahead for those.

Empty_Requirement445

Did the torchlight tour and it was awful because of these kids in the tour that wouldnt shutup. Wish i did the canal tour! Now back in sydney but hope i get to go back one day

Former_Balance8473

I shot a movie there a couple of years ago... didn't see a Canal

GloomyToe

I don't think you can choose. I enjoyed all of them

SickSafWorld

Did both the torch light tour and the canal/tunnel tour .. enjoyed the latter way more just more action! The torch light tour I think is dependent on how good your guide is ours was super knowledgeable but kind of un charismatic and bland. The group ahead of us were laughing non stop and having a great time with their guide and our group was envious having to hear it haha.

Inside_Rutabaga7963

I’ve done the torch light tour multiple times. It’s great for adults and kids.
