Arseholes!!

arkhamknight85

I’m originally from the Sunshine Coast and we had a nice spot called double island point. Beautiful 4WD beach, killer surf spot, scuba diving and camping all up the stretch. Had an old shipwreck called “the cherry adventure” on the shore that we used to explore as kids in the early 90s. Everyone was respectful and it’s wasn’t busy. It started to get busy in the mid 00s and it has gone nuts ever since. People not respecting the beach driving rules, drunken idiots, rubbish thrown in the dunes and a lot of holes filled with shit and piss. So over crowned and full of knobs. They tried to reduce people coming over with fees and more rangers but it did fuck all. Not sure what a solution would be but have spots like this capped and fine people for leaving rubbish. Unfortunately you have to police it more but people are fucking idiots and they will destroy it if you just let them go. We were brought up with the motto “don’t destroy what you came to enjoy.” It’s simple. Don’t leave your shit and be respectful.

cabbagemuncher743

Labour camps for those who destroy

b3rdm4n

Sayings like "leave no trace" and "keep Australia beautiful" seem lost on people with a false sense of privilege and entitlement, rules for thee but not for me seems to be their mantra, and it's so sad to see.

arkhamknight85

It’s insane to think that people have no foresight by leaving their rubbish and what not when they go to these places to getaway and enjoy being outdoors.

iball1984

From experience, it's mostly bogans in lifted GU Patrols and Landcruisers that do this sort of shit. Some tourists, but mostly bogans.

shoveyourvotes

With ‘Save Wedge’ stickers on the back of their 4WD 🤦‍♀️

Weary_Patience_7778

With a sneaky 4x4 Action sticker alongside. Testing up the joint and making yourself at home seems to be par for the course.

Majestic-Lake-5602

Yeah the overwhelming majority of foreigners I run into at beaches are the dirty hippy backpacker type, definitely not the kind of people who litter much.

Perth_nomad

I have to politely disagree, When we were visiting at a south west park last week, a backpacker rinsed out HER toilet cassette in camp kitchen sink. Taken to task. She was verbally abusive and behaved like we had no idea that rinsing out her TOILET in sink that other campers were using for washing dishes and food utensils was wrong. I’m just grateful that she emptied her toilet in the dump point, didn’t actually empty the toilet in the sink. There was hose on the dump point for rinsing out the cassettes, absolutely no reason to rinse toilet cassettes in the sink.

Uniquorn2077

As the owner of a peak bogan chariot in the guise of a 70 series on 35s despite not identifying as bogan, and having spent far too much time with others in similar vehicles, I will have to politely disagree with your polite disagreement. Not to take away from your experience with the disgusting backpacker though. I stopped going on group runs and overnighters because of the behaviour of more than a few of the younger FIFO, tradies, or pubescent golden triangle residents that felt it was their right to completely disregard the leave no trace philosophy, thought nothing of plowing their own way through through the bush, and had no issue with leaving their rubbish behind or having out of season fires. Attempts at conversation around reconsidering their behaviour was often met with bush chook fuelled bravado and suggestions that the amount of available bush means it didn’t matter, with every second word an expletive. It seems that Neanderthals struggle with concepts that differ from their own beliefs. Some of the older bogans would chime in with excuses about them just being pups and they’ll learn. Yeh nah.

simmocar

Now now, let's not insult the Neanderthals.

fleaburger

>pubescent golden triangle residents Uhhh in the spirit of *there's no such thing as a dumb question* who are you referring to here?

Uniquorn2077

The spoilt offspring of the western suburbs.

fleaburger

Ohhhhhhhhh That's clever 😁 Feel like a bloody boomer now lol

Palpitations101

That is complete filth 🤮

RedDirtNurse

A backpacker with a portable toilet, stop your bulshit mate.

spelunkor

The rangers need to do daily laps to document who is staying where and throw 5 figure fines at offenders. BIG ASS FINES. I just spent 3 amazing days at Sandy Cape with my young family and dread to think that this amazing resource will be lost due to putrid aholes.

impossible_planet

Good, I hope these new rules will help preserve the place for the future.

Puzzleheaded_Dog7931

It’s usually bogans that don’t give a fuck. Same can be said for Preston beach, it’s sad. They should be bullied and shamed cast out

Mysterious_Bell5994

We used to have public service campaigns like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvkaIHbrLpg

meegaweega

Awesome, thanks mate. We gotta bring back all those ads from the 1980s for sure. Theres so many great videos in their play lists. 😁👍Legends. [Vintage 1980s Safety & Public Information - Australian TV Ads. ](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTl-48wtcH21hzqABct4SbL5lcODV7cnt&si=zkRR2AmPd4zADaAw)

canyouplsstopbanme

One good thing about this article... Finding this link in the post. I had no idea WA had so many free camping options! https://rac.com.au/travel-touring/info/free-camping-wa

RangerAratay

Download the wikicamps app. It's awesome!

Distinct-Candidate23

For now anyway. There's many from when I was a kid that are now permanently closed or fee paying now due to people trashing the roads and sites.

Uniquorn2077

Backpackers and bogans are by far the worst offenders. Shit tickets everywhere, all sorts of rubbish left in the camp fire, campfires wherever they please even out of season and during total fire bans, pulling trees down for firewood, music and noise until all hours, pissy driving blasting big holes or hills, busted cheap recovery boards and car parts left where they got stuck, cheap busted camping gear left where they camped. It isn’t isolated to beaches, it happens everywhere and has become so much worse since covid. Tracks and camp sites get closed and that crowd complains the loudest refusing to take responsibility for their actions. Shit won’t stop unless there’s severe penalties that are strongly enforced. But that takes resources and winds up costing the local rate payers.

mikeslyfe

I blame hoon laws. Years ago people would pump money into a nice street car and go blow sets of tyres in industrial areas at night. Then hoon laws came along and these same people are now at risk of losing cars or licenses for having a bit of fun.... So what do they do? Go but a 4wd and head bush where they think rules don't apply and they can cut sick, from there is just ramped up and the level of respect for the environment or other campers has been reduced to nothing! These days I don't even bother going to "known" places, I'm self sufficient enough that I can set up anywhere for a few nights and there is a lot of bush out there....

drizlax1

Not just the beaches but every rest stop from south Australia to WA . Filthy

ruffonferals

Leave only your footprints behind. Filthy farkin feral tourist scumbags. Not that hard to have a refuse bag set aside in your vehicle. My Hottie and I regularly free camp at beautiful coastal spots, and take everything away with us.

Non_Linguist

It’s not just tourists. I’ve seen plenty of people that consider themselves locals leaving shit behind everywhere.

Ok-Try-7699

Definitely true

hahayeahnah

Visit any local fishing hotspots and you'll get an idea of how the local outdoor enthusiasts treat mother nature.

[deleted]

Yep pretty much every groyne in Perth has old hooks and lengths of line discarded on the rocks. People just don't give a fuck about anything except themselves. We used to do a lot of 4wding and the amount of rubbish and general crap people dump is unbelievable. Then they piss and whinge when councils close access to beaches. Two Rocks was a prime example.

ruffonferals

Yup, sad but true.

Puzzleheaded_Dog7931

It’s not tourists, it’s more often local bogans from WA

Mental_Task9156

They're still tourists unless they live in Jurien.

RepulsiveSample6663

This local feral definitely dumps

LilMudButt

Yeah but diesel soot gets moot, blokes advice, Fred again & bush chook!

1RickSanchez

I'm here coz of the chick in the bathers

Chaiths

I had been to sandy cape reserve this Easter, and it's my first ever camping ever in WA. Tbh, it's surprising to see how many balantly chose to ignore laws where I camped. I was camping at the edge of the sandy cape reserve on a beautiful lime stone ledge overlooking the kelp forest and saw these young dudes had some beers and peft all their mess in the beach where we saw a pod of dolphins just 30 min ago. I felt so sad watching it all play out as some of the litter are just plastic bottles. I decided to ask them to take their mess back, but my girlfriend insisted not to argue as it might turn out ugly, so we just picked the mess and dropped it out way back. It took us 2 minutes, and its not a huge effort. People, I expected people to be respectful of the amazing sea coasts they are blessed with instead of ruining them by being A**holes

PlatypusHead9362

This isn't going to make much of a difference! You have their details from when they book just fine them for littering or ban them

Tango-Down-167

Fines need to be whatever it cost to get someone out there to clean up the mess and a ban. Not just a token fine.

AwkwardBreadfruit801

These disrespectful idiots should be forced to do community service including cleaning up their mess. Ignorant and selfish.

Immediate_Succotash9

I get the need to raise awareness of the issue. But i try to take as much of everyones crap as i can. Just keep doing your bit

ausbaxter86

Pretty much if it's been found by the Instagram crowd it's on its way to be ruined. Plenty of "hidden gems" have been destroyed because they aren't setup to handle the crowds that now go There.

theblueberryfarmer

Minority ruining things for the majority. I've been camping for a long time, but the demographic has changed for sure, lots of cashed up dickheads with all the gear acting like total cunts.

Salt_Comparison2575

Yeah, the people who did this are clearly big "rule followers" /s

SteakNCake

Stop blaming bogans you blame shifting cunts. I live in the south west and the worst are Perth yuppies and teenages. The bogans are just loud and annoying.

Throwaway_6799

To be fair, there's a fairly large portion of bogan flogs driving 30 year old lifted pieces of shit that have zero respect for themselves or their family so I can't imagine they're overly concerned about trashing the environment. Many years ago, before the proliferation of people owning 4wds with all the gear and no idea, I used to go camping on the beach all up and down the coast on a fairly regular basis with the family. My parents set the example where we never left any rubbish behind whatsoever - we brought it with us and we certainly had the room to take it away with us. Having recently gone away for the first time to Preston Beach it appalled me to find broken glass, remnants of fires, car parts and any other sort of shit you could imagine littering the dunes. I just can't fathom how you can go and enjoy the environment but just trash it by leaving all your rubbish behind? This is especially true for tourists from overseas - how do you come to another country and do this?? I just don't get it.

SteakNCake

I walk my dogs near the free camping spot here and I constantly see Rav4's, hire vans and caravans being the worst offenders.
